    Wagyu NY strip

Perfect fine dining dinner spot off the main road to the cozy Capitola Corridor, worthwhile to enjoy a warmer summer and fall dinner with outdoor and indoor seating options. We came in off the recommendation of a local patron and it did not disappoint. Reservation recommended but we were able to get a walk in rez with about a 20 minute wait on a Saturday night. Our server Matt was super informative, suggested to ask for specials of the day to go off menu although the menu options are also great. We tried the fried green tomatoes (delicious), the eggplant labneh starter (so good) and shared the wagyu NY strip (wow - *off menu special). Presentation for everything was spectacular and very tasty with a variety of flavor. The desserts were also incredibly delectable. The s'mores cup was our favorite but don't sleep on the New York cheesecake with creme brûlée drizzle on top that added a welcomed texture to the classic dish. We wouldn't hesitate to come back

    Scallops + steak. Both BOMB.

It's been a couple of years since I wrote my first review and I thought I'd update it, although not much has changed (and that's a positive thing!) The staff continues to be so warm and kind. I recommend a reservation, always, but particularly here as the space is small. We had a protein-heavy dinner most recently and it was seriously the bomb. The hamachi appetizer was so freaking buttery smooth and tasty. That dish is perfection. We then had the melon and prosciutto and again, so tasty. I LOVE seeing that combination on menus. From there, we both ordered the red meat dishes (both different cuts of steak). I was delighted by the portion sizing as we can throw meat down, which we did. This continues to be one of my top favorite restaurants in the county.

The food is gorgeous, imaginative and excellently prepared. It has a great vibe and staff who are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Wonderful restaurant for a fun, classy night out.

Trestles located in adorable Capitola was a delicious meal and staff couldn't be nicer! Our dinner was done perfectly, nice wine selection, and everything was a pleasant dining experience. Would recommend!

    Best pork belly ever!

This place is awesome! Highly recommend reservations as the dining area is small. But the food is fabulous and the service is just as good as the food. FOOD: We started with the pork belly which was honestly the best pork belly I've ever had and I've had quite a bit and I make it myself. Both crispy AND tender it was amazing served on a shallow bed of greens. I had the braised short rib with potato gnocchi and it literally fell apart it was so tender. The gnocchi was also the best ever and whatever reduction they served it with was so packed with flavor. My wife had the braised duck and again... amazing. Polenta was delicious too. And then dessert? You can already guess. SERVICE: Was out of this world. Our server was amazing and the hostess was terrific. The portions were terrific. And the plating was perfect. COST: Pricey but not for what you get. Very reasonable for a nice romantic dinner especially considering the quality of the food!

We are outside, they had the heaters on so it was nice and comfortable as we got to people watch. The staff was attentive and so sweet! Get the corn if they still have it, that was so darn good. I tend to enjoy vodka drinks but I switch it for tequila. They ended up making exactly what I wanted and working with me. GO HERE!

This is my favorite restaurant, and the only place that I've returned to 10+ times. We drive there from the Peninsula every few months just for it. The kitchen always delivers - every dish, especially the use of sauces, is full of creativity. This place reminds me that creativity doesn't only belong to restaurants with Michelin stars.

We love this restaurant because of the complexity of the flavor profiles of their dishes. While inside is too loud for our liking, sitting at the table outside is perfection. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary here! The Borba Farms Potatoes & Trumpet Mushrooms, and the Pork Belly & Scallops were phenomenal. We also had the House Made Strozzapreti Pasta which was nice but it did not wow us. The staff was sweet for congratulating us on our anniversary and complimenting us with some champagne.

Met my friend's brother and his wife for dinner and it was simply lovely. The food was tasty and exactly as described, the surroundings were warm and inviting, and the service stellar!

This is the second time we have been here, and like the 1st, we had an excellent experience. Both our host and our waiter were very friendly. No matter what you get, the food here is always consistently good. Looking around the room, we could see that the dishes we didn't order also looked fresh and tasty, giving us a reason to come back again. The space feels very cozy, and has a small town feel to it. We will be back again!

My friend and I had dinner here last night and sat at the bar. I was so excited because I haven't been here in about a year and I remembered how great it was the first time I tried it! The service and drinks were excellent and our food came out fast. We were a little disappointed with the food however. We got the artichoke and the beans with squash blossoms. The artichoke was okay; a little cold and not a whole lot of flavor. The squash blossoms were delicious but beans were a little hard/undercooked. I'll be back because I love the vibe here so much, but I will say that food wise we were a bit underwhelmed.

What is the corkage fee at Trestles?

Thank you for inquiring about our corkage fee, which is currently $30.00 per bottle.

    Are you open for Thanksgiving?

    We are closed for Thanksgiving

Is it kid friendly? Do they have dinner options for kids?

Hi Dolores! Yes we offer a kids menu which includes macaroni and cheese, butter pasta or chicken fingers and fries. The restaurant is kid friendly. We hope to see you soon!

    Do they have outside seating?

Yes! But, I was told they are first come first serve and can not be reserved

Can you bring your own bottle of wine? If so, what is the corkage fee?

Yes you can bring your own wine. Corkage fee is $25.00.

Can we just come here for cocktails and maybe an app?

There is only beer and wine. But, I'm sure you could. I would recommend coming early or making a reservation

    Are there vegan entree options?

None of their entrees are listed as vegan. The menu does have everything listed whether it is vegan, gf... the squash blossoms and butter lettuce are and definitely worth it

Seems like a fairly limited menu. Do they also have nightly specials?

Yes they do, depending on what Chef Nick finds that is fresh and local.

Everyone was very friendly and our server gave us really good feedback on the dishes we asked about. Someone was always walking around filling water glasses. We sat in the back patio. It's very spacious with a lot of umbrellas to keep guests in the shade. My husband had the meatloaf sandwich. He said it was ok, but a little dry. My swordfish was perfectly sautéed in a tapenade beurre blanc sauce ($40) with deliciously creamy and decadent polenta and buttery chopped bok choy. The way they served the bok choy was perfect- never change it. It was artsy, buttery and didn't look wilted. My son had the grilled boneless pork chops (two boneless chops) with fries and smoky beans ($28), loved. He devoured the berry fruit crisp à la mode for dessert ($12) and I had two small bites: It was like granola over compote with ice cream. I didn't complain. The best part was the incredibly flawless service. We could have felt rushed dining since it was towards the end of service. Instead, Genevieve paced the meal perfectly so we felt spoiled and unrushed. Next visit I would love to dine in their "secret garden" courtyard; it was beautiful. Their 'secret garden' would be beautiful for a private party like a birthday or wedding anniversary, bridal or baby shower.

We sat outside and had an incredible view of Capitola Beach. The service was slow throughout the meal, and one thing that stood out was that I never received a water refill the entire time we were there. It wasn't terrible service, but it definitely felt inattentive. I ordered the Seafood Fettuccine because I wanted something a little more filling. In hindsight, that's partly on me since seafood fettuccine isn't exactly a dish I usually expect to be exceptional anywhere. The Alfredo sauce was bland and needed a lot of pepper to bring some life to it. Most of the seafood was overcooked and chewy, particularly the fish. The clams were probably the best part of the dish and were cooked reasonably well. Overall, the view was fantastic, but beyond that, the meal didn't do much for me. Between the slow service and underwhelming food, this ended up being one of the worst meals I had on my trip.

Having done that, we all agreed, we were a bit underwhelmed, and would probably stick to Vim in the future. I will say, start to finish, their service was great. It's easy to have great service when the place is so small, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Service was great. I was rather less impressed, though, given how relatively small the menu already was, and how early in the evening we were there, that they were already out of several things, including the only appetizer I had personally been particularly interested in trying, so we just ordered entrees. The booth table we were sitting at also felt a bit cramped - the tables by the window looked a bit nicer. They did bring complimentary bread - but we also all agreed that their complimentary bread was almost, though not quite, inedibly salty. I definitely did appreciate, at least, given that obviously all their wine is going to be expensive, at a place like this, that they did have a fairly substantial selection of local craft beer, including multiple local craft ciders. If I had been more impressed by the food, I would definitely have been super happy about that. Cider is so versatile, and not on nearly enough menus.) Anyway, I tried their braised short rib dish - it was... good. I think that's really the best way to describe it - I enjoyed eating it, but I still have random memories occasionally how great a short rib dish I had several years ago at Vim was, and I really don't even remember exactly what this one was garnished with or anything. I had no complaints, but there wasn't anything about it that would make me specifically want to come back, nor to have that amount of money spent, even if it was my parents', when they could spend it elsewhere. (My mom made similar comments about the fish entree she ordered.) That said, since we didn't order any appetizers, we did have room to share a dessert, their panna cotta with fruit, and we all agreed, the dessert was definitely the highlight. Excellent panna cotta.

The pomegranate sumac gastrique was yummy but there was wayyy too much and it was overly sweet. The Maitake mushroom itself was crunchy but could use some finishing salt. From a visual perspective, it was brightttt and beautiful but I wonder if being able to see the top of the mushroom would have been more appealing to the eye than the base stem. Loved the bright windows, open concept, clean aesthetic with seaside color vibe, and the VIEW!…read moreThere is a reason half the walls are glass: so you get a view of the beach and, depending on when you're there, the sunset. Venus is a fine dining establishment but the wait times for service once we were seated and cold service were unexpected at such a nice place. This was our first time here, so hopefully we caught this server on a bad day. She also brought out our appetizers and entree at the same time, which was shocking. Due to this, we felt like we had to eat quickly so the entree didn't get cold. We often order several plates and share all the time, and never has any other restaurant brought every dish out at once before! This was the first. **THE DETAILS** Venue: 5 stars The venue is quite beautiful. You can't beat a place that is on the same street as a beach! Location: 5 stars It is literally AT Rio Del Mar Beach! Parking wasn't terrible, but the lot is tiny, so I can see it becoming difficult to park at certain times. Crab coquettes: 1 star It was so dry, I couldn't even finish one of them. It was hard to eat. Also, you can smell the crab, but you don't taste it. I did appreciate that our server gave us a heads up that these coquettes are not made like crab cakes, but we still didn't know this was a red flag warning to not get them. (Consider this a warning, my friends!) Instruction for eating: each bite must be followed by 3 gulps of beverage. Calamari: 2 stars I looooove calamari, but the ratio of squid-to-batter was off. There was too much batter, and it was thick and over-fried that with each bite, you don't get to enjoy the squid. If you want something crunchy and salty though, this appetizer is it. Miso salmon over coconut rice: 3 stars The salmon was tender and flaky, and cooked well. The skin was crunchy and flavorful. The coconut rice, however, was very mushy, like it was cooked with too much liquid. This was a disappointment because we ordered the miso flavors of the salmon knowing it would pair well with the coconut rice, but the texture of the rice was that of baby food. The bok choy was fresh and added a brightness to the dish. All in all, it was an okay dish, but not for something costing over $30. Cocktails: 5 stars All were delicious. (Venus makes their own gin!) Service: 1 star Slowwwww like molasses. Other than seating us, which was an our fault for not having reservations, we had to wait over 15 mins for a server to acknowledge we existed, then another 15 mins to get water after she said she was going to bring us water. It was a hot day, and there was no breeze or air conditioning in the restaurant, so I mentioned to our server that I was very thirsty, but we sat there for 30 minutes at an empty table with just our menus. It was perplexing. Like I mentioned earlier, the appetizers and entree were all brought out together, which made us feel rushed to eat faster so the food wouldn't get cold. (The server should have asked if that's how we'd prefer to be served and not assume this.) Different people, not only our server, would place items on our table, like drinks, and each person did it without saying anything and without smiling. They also placed items down on the table startlingly hard. (I made a joke to my friend that they don't like us here the first time it happened, but when this happened multiple times, it was no longer funny.) **OVERALL** I think the scene is great (venue/location) and drinks are great. The food items can be hit or miss. The vibe, however, is what YOU make of it because the service is lacking. Table service needs re-training. I think Venus is a good place to go for the bar and maybe some bar food only.
