At my appointment with them, a PA or NP came briskly into the room. She went straight to the computer barely looking at me. She immediately told me I probably had acid reflux. I told her I really DO NOT believe I have acid reflux. Next thing I know she is scheduling me for an endoscopy. She said people can have acid reflux and not know it, that they often do a scope and see irritation in the esophagus. So I thought, "Hey they see patients all the time, they know better than I do." And I was looking for answers and this was a start.. This woman also told me to start taking a prescription for Omeprazole. Not a 30 day supply to see if it helped anything, but a 90 day supply. I took a few and didn't see a difference in my THROAT problem so I quit. The doctor who performed my endoscopy wrote on the notes to take the Omeprazole. WHY? I don't suffer from acid reflux AND they saw nothing to the contrary from the endoscopy. This place is run just like so many today. Sadly not because they care about people, but as a money making corporation. They are trying to make as much money as possible get their nest egg and great life all set up. And that is exactly what my first appointment felt like. I was a money maker for them. And I'm suspicious about the medication too. Is this office getting a kick-back from the drug company. I did not need this medication.

As a patient, my gastrointestinal and surgical involvement with Mission Gastrointestinal Surgery has been and, as I write, outstanding. With this collective stable, I never felt like just a number on their revolving schedule. Their tone has been personal, understanding this was my challenge to face with their assistance. Mission Surgical team is, hands down, up-to-date in practice; is apprised and knowledgeable with my individual case. I view their medically coordinated, action model as stellar. (After all, I am a recipient of their excellence.) More, I perceive and felt the dignity provided to me which was/is reassuring. I am considered not just a patient but as a whole person and respected as a proactive patient. I am/was kept aware of my progress, versed in understandable language; encouraged to be and do my best as medical circumstances allow. Gratitude to: Dr. John Whitfield, Dr. David May, Dr. Benjamin Motz, Dr. Benjamin Caputo (Resident). To the 8th Floor Mission Hospital surgical nurses and dedicated certified aides treated me as one of their own, keeping me comfortable, clean and informed.
