Not that anyone wants to have a root canal, but sometimes we must. Yesterday was my 2nd one with Dr. Finn. I must admit it was a great experience. I walked over from my dentist, they were able to get me in the very next day. I was treated so kindly. They did everything to make me comfortable, gave me the best neck pillow, one for my knees and also had great music playing. Dr. Finn is very kind, gentle and funny. She did a fantastic job numbing me up, made sure I was comfortable as my nerve was on fire. I didn't feel a thing. They gave me a little rest break and I was in and out of there in no time. My first experience was very complicated as the last dentist left a little piece of the tool in my canal. I told Dr. Finn I really wanted to save the tooth. She wasn't sure she would be able to retrieve the instrument but she did and I have never had an issue again with that tooth. From the front office staff to the clinical team in the back, everyone is professional, kind, and incredibly well run. Let's be honest--no one likes getting a root canal. Sometimes they're just necessary. My first experience with Dr. Sherman was during an emergency when my own dentist wouldn't do the procedure, and that's how I found him. More recently, I had another root canal that wasn't an emergency, but still came with plenty of stress. I brought my headphones and listened to relaxing music while Dr. Sherman did his magic. It's a list of 50, and at the very bottom are Dr. Szell (Marathon Man), Orin Scrivello, DDS, Hermey (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer), and, topping the list, Dr. Stephanie Jue. This review is for my experience with Dr. Natalia Finn, et. al. at Tri-City Endodontics. My experience started with an urgent referral from my regular dentist In early December. Tri-City Endo had me come in immediately to do a root canal and at this time I was expecting one root canal. After my preliminary exam by Dr. Finn, she determined I would need two root canals, what a surprise. The first one was done that day and the second one about three days later. Unfortunately, the second root canal was heavily infected and needed antibiotics to be injected. We waited two weeks for the medicine to work before Dr. Finn could finish the root canal. I no longer have pain and feel a strong recovery from the whole process. From the time I came in for the first appointment, I had nothing less than first class treatment by the office staff and Dr. Finn's assistants. Everyone here really understands the meaning of teamwork to make their patients feel at ease with every stage of the process. My advice would be to avoid this endodontist. Years ago, I was referred here by myDentist. I called and asked how much the Root Canal would cost prior to my visit. The person on the phone and gave me a cost. When I arrived for my consultation, they charge me an additional almost $200 for the consultation. I communicated that I did not think it was fair since they did not tell me, that the consultation would be an additional fee when I asked the cost of my service. They begrudgingly waived the consultation fee my firsts visit. They should definitely be aware that these services are very expensive and they need to properly communicate ALL fees involved. Recently I was referred to them again for anotherroot canal. When I called, they asked if I can come in that same day for a consultation. I had just seen my dentist. They did x-rays and determined that I needed a root canal. When they asked what tooth it was they told me that they had treated that tooth there in the past. I've had several root canals and I do not recall where each one was performed. When the person on the phone that has records is telling me that they did it there, I'm going to assume that they are correct. I asked if they could use the x-rays that I had already paid for as well as the info from my first visit instead of me coming in for an additional consultation. They told me that they would contact my dentist to get my X-rays and let me know. A little bit later they reached out and told me my dentist was closed the day and they would be getting back to me on Monday. Monday came and went without a phone call. I went ahead and reached back out to them on Wednesday. They assured me that the dentist would be checking my x-rays at the end of the day and get back to me on Thursday. Thursday came and went, Friday came and went. Finally Monday I reached back out to them to see what was going on... First, the person on the phone told me that the dentist has not looked at them. Then she put me on hold and told me that the root canal was not performed there and that I should go back to the person that performed the original Root Canal. This was confusing to me just a week and a half ago They had told me that the service was performed there. If that was the case, I do not understand why they did not just tell me that 10 days ago when I originally called. I had never said that I was unwilling to pay for a consultation. I just asked if they were able to use the x-ray that I already paid for. I never asked them to fix it for free. I was just seeing if they could possibly use the x-rays I already paid for. Evidently this was enough for them to decide they did not want my business... So pretty much I waited 10 days... Finished my antibiotics, now I'm going to have to get on another round of antibiotics before I can get into see another endodontist. Such a frustrating waste of my time. read more

I just had my first root canal yesterday. When I got the news from my dentist I was expecting nothing but money, pain and anxiety. Dr Browns office got me in the day after I called. They were on time, courteous, professional. But what gives the 5 stars is that everything was explained to me, I was given the time to express my fears and ask questions. As a patient at Torrey Pines Dental Arts in La Jolla, I was introduced to Dr. Michael Sherman (Dr. Richard Sherman's son) after it was discovered I had 2 majorly damaged lower front teeth needing root canals. Dr. Michael (as he's called in La jolla to avoid confusion!) is an Endodontics specialist and performs root canal procedures for Torrey Pines Dental Arts patients one Wed. a month at that location. Though I do not wish root canal procedures upon anybody, he's probably the best person to do it! What a caring and talented individual. And due to the extreme issues in my case, I've "unfortunately" gotten to know him very well over the last few years. During my first visit, He took my request seriously when I asked to not be able to feel ANYTHING and was very generous with the local anesthesia. Ya know, root canals sound very serious and scary and I was terrified of any pain from it (btw, they are not that scary for anyone needing it done - take it from someone who has had multiple ones done on the same teeth!). Also, being concerned for full recovery, he suggested the procedure be done in 2 sessions and he invested the extra time to be completely sure everything was done right (looked closely under the microscope and found an ity bitty 'fin' to take care of, and reworked the area). His attention to detail is uncanny - and appreciated. He finished the job smoothing the area where he drilled perfectly. He had even said that if I end up moving somewhere and go to a different dentist he would still want to see my x-rays down the road. I believe he said, 'even if you move to the Philippines i want them to fax the x-rays to me.' That comment always stuck with me. For whatever reason my mouth never wanted to fully heal and the same horrible pain returned a year later. I've ended up having 2 follow up "consults" and will be going on my 4th (or 5th, ive lost count, haha) drilling session this afternoon! I know by this point you'd think I enjoy doing it or something. But it's all because I've still felt pain and discomfort and Dr. Michael is THAT committed to his patients' teeth and having his work end in success. I think the fact that I find my appts. to be 'just another day' really shows his skill level (i.e. he's brilliant at his specialty) and how painless he makes the process go. I know the words 'root canal' and 'painless' together sounds like an oxymoron but he really does a great job - even when the anesthesia wears off I feel pretty good. yes, i feel like such a trooper B-) My story is just one of many I'm sure. I just cannot say enough nice things about him...he is personable and caring - and very good at sensing when you are in pain or discomfort, constantly checking in with you to make sure you are doing ok while he works. One of my procedures was done up at the Vista location as well, so i was able to find out he staff is just as warm and inviting as he is. They always called me a week after to see how I was doing on his behalf. If I could give 10 stars, I would. He is that wonderful. read more

Now the tooth has no pain, no sore, and does not any sensitive. Also, it has no hot/cold water switch alert. At before the treatment, my tooth had so bad status; the tooth has multiple bunch of the nerves it is same as the octopus' claws, and the tooth has bad historical damage. I was referred to this office after learning that I needed my first root canal. A root canal? I floss and brush daily, how does this happen? I was terrified and after doing extensive research, I made an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Monroe. He spent over an hour of his time with me answering all of my questions. I had extreme anxiety due to previous dental procedures and he assured me that Root Canals are no big deal and the procedure would be painless. A painless root canal, is he kidding? We have all heard horrid stories about root canals! After determining that as much as I love to eat and the need for keeping my original teeth as opposed to getting dental implants surgically screwed into my gums , (OUCH!) I reluctantly made an appointment. Dr. Monroe was WONDERFUL! He numbed my gums pretty quickly, performed the root canal in about an hours time, all the while making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. Second review. This year 2021 needed two root canals, I should be so lucky. One with Dr. Sherman, fast and painless front tooth. Second with Dr. Finn, harder to do since there were extra root structures within back molar and she was facing a tooth that was hard to save. Dr. Finn fixed in what required more than one visit for more than an hour each and was very professional. Saved tooth that might have well been lost. Explained everything superbly. Both are great human beings, as are associates on staff. Sufficient free parking; I have never had to hunt for space. Ask about cash discount. read more

I came in with an extremely painful tooth and very anxious about the procedure however Dr. Monroe was fantastic. He and his team explained everything as we went and addressed all of my concerns. After being told I needed a root canal on two different teeth I was in tears. This office got me in for an appointment same day! I was nervous but the staff was friendly. Dr.Brown was very pleasant and took the time to listen to my problems and then did an exam of my problem areas. He was able to do a little drill work that has so far saved me from actually needing any root canal! I am carefully paying attention to my problem areas but am blown away at the customer service I received here. The doctor even called to follow up with me the following day. I had a root canal that was infected and was recommended to go here and to go for an apico. Guess what ended up happening my root canal infection never went away and I ended up going to another Endodontics who helped resolve my tooth which is now pain free. Don't get an apico unless you've exhausted all options of redoing your root canal. Why Dr Sherman thought it'd be a good idea to treat me when I only had one root canal done blows my mind. My root never really ended up healing well and I had worse problems than before. My new specialist and dentist that I'm with now all thought I got my apico as a last resort option. I ended up having to get another root canal on the tooth next to where I got the apico after he cut my nerve and damaged the root next to it which was okay before. It wasn't cheap paying for this out of pocket since he didn't accept my insurance at the time. Ended up costing me more frustration and pain and money out of pocket finding another specialist that was more trustworthy and also happens to specialize in both apico and root canal surgery. He told me I should have gotten a root canal retreatment done first and not an apico as the apico doesn't remove the infection. read more
