The woman I spoke to used her soft bedroom voice which made it difficult to understand what she was saying and when I explained I was having difficulty understanding she hung up. I don't think I've ever had a more disappointing experience. I purchase a pellet stove from here 2 months ago and still waiting to have it installed. I've made multiple phone calls and trips to the store with no progress. I found out on my last visit that after a month they had not even ordered the necessary parts for installation. the gentleman that sold me the stove never even remembers who I am. At one visit he didn't even realize that the pellet stove was already there. the excuse I'm given is "we are just so busy." Which I think is great but if you can't handle the business then maybe you don't deserve it. read more

Don't trust this company!' TriCounty sent Magic Broom out to clean and repair a pellet stove insert. The repairman pretended to check and replace the fuse, but did not replace it correctly. He said that the insert had come to the end of its life, and that he had taken measurements so that I could buy a new one. He said the cost for coming out was $199. I purchased a gas fireplace last winter from Tri County. The installation of the fireplace was incorrect causing the siding on the side of my home to become covered in black smoot. Yes this was later corrected after SMO noticed the smoot on the outside of my home and said that is alarming. Began having issues with the fireplace called them to service it . I was charged a large service fee but the part needed was never ordered and till this date I have yet to get a return call. I would not recommend them to anyone . read more

Overpriced and disorganized. Visited the location several times in hopes of purchasing a pellet stove. Staff are extremly rude, when trying to get estimates, my quoted price increased by $4,980, giving a total quote for a pellet stove of $9,795 (stove cost & installation). Absolutely ridiculous and spiteful of the salesman who seemed annoyed by my questions which included being charged sales tax for a pellet stove, permits, and functionality/performance of the stove. Each technician charged different prices for the same type of installation. My estimate increased significantly when I questioned by they were charging sales tax for a pellet stove when it should not be charged. Horrible staff and uninterested salespeople. No worries, I took my business and money elsewhere. I went to another dealer in Waldorf who got the job done and I had no problem giving them my business. The estimated price with the other dealer was significantly lower by nearly $4,800! I would never recommend anyone to Tri County Hearth and Patio. I have reported them to the State of Maryland Taxation for charging sales tax on pellet stove purchases. read more

Dave sold my father a part and charged his visa card. On the receipt he wrote MasterCard with no reference information to confuse my father. He then cancelled the order. When my 83 year old father went there to check on the order during a global pandemic, Dave said the refund was issued. I called several times and he lied balled faced every time. I had to contact all of my father's card companies and found the charge but NO REFUND! I disputed the charges and will be bringing formal charges for this theft! Seniors are very sharp. Apparently everyone is on vacation this week and we are unable to find out if the patio table we ordered and paid for has arrived for us to pick up. We really liked the furniture we got there, but this was to be a "quick" delivery of an item they didn't have in stock. Nothing quick about this. Not my problem that no one is manning the store. Poor scheduling on their part. Just make sure you ask them when you order something when they all plan on taking a mass vacation so you'll know not to bother them then. With that being said, when we visited the showroom we were helped by a friendly man who really wasn't a salesperson, but still was helpful. read more

I have been lies too and I still have a hole in my basement wall since Jan.12, 2021. I have talked to a couple of staff at the store and all I got was lies. Say I will get a call to schedule a finish date and yet here I am waiting for the call and for my pellet stove to be installed. I have asked to talk to the service manager and owner of the company to no prevail. Worst ever. Best pellet fireplace store ever. Had one installed that i bought from here. Havent had a problem since i purchased it. (8 yrs ago). I tried to purchase cheaper pellets (BJs & Sams) and used them for a month. You end up with 30% dust in the bags. Never again!!!!!!! The pellets from Tri-county are the best quality. read more

We purchased a wood stove with Tri County Hearth last year, and we have unfortunately ended up with a very expensive product that does not fit our needs. We consistently mentioned to sales staff the size of our home and our heating needs and were concerned that this stove would be too small for our home - and we were told that ordering a stove with larger heat output would take months (what is on display in the store they don't necessarily have in stock.) We started the shopping process in July trying to get the right fit and any options that would fit our needs we couldn't get a guarantee they would be shipped until November - after cold season started - we had a baby in the way and really needed a stove installed with a date we could rely on and other than buying one of the few flush mount models they had in stock we were told they could not guarantee us a date because of customs import etc. Because we trusted the sales staff who said over and over this stove puts out a lot of heat, we went with a model that - as we suspected, does not fit our needs but now we are stuck with and have paid thousands of dollars for. As soon as real cold hit we knew it was not giving us the heat we needed after making this investment for our family. Super disappointed and really just wishing our voicing our needs as far as heat had been taken more seriously instead of just wanting to make a sale. I will say the installation team was phenomenal, honest and hardworking people who did a great job. I just with the sales staff had been able to be the same so we would not have essentially lost $5000+ on a stove that is not what we needed. We would love a larger stove instead and to pay the difference on a larger model. read more

I have to say that this is one of my favorite little guilty pleasures. I was introduced to Tri County after I got a Big Green Egg one year for Christmas. After the second time of coming in for supplies for the Egg, I was known on a first name basis. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I love my "personal" shopper Dave. My husband, Dave, bought a Yeti Hopper from Tri County Hearth and Patio for me to take to my son's travel ball tournaments. I was very skeptical that the coolers kept ice like everyone said they did. To my surprise the ice not only lasted through an entire hot double header but there was always enough left for the next day's games as well. Awesome product!! read more

Update: As of today, Jan 13 our fireplace insert still isn't working properly. The company is now saying that the fireplace is working as designed. Can't see through the class window but its working fine. Can you believe this? We ordered an Avalon wood fireplace insert and it was installed back in August, 2014. As of today, Dec. 30, 2014 it is still not operational. I would NOT recommend buying from this business. I have never seen anything like this. They have been out at least 6 times to try and fix this unit. I don't know how many more times they will come before they consider this unit a lemon or before we get fed up and return this unit all together. I would give it a zero if I could. read more

We wrote a detailed letter with pictures of the mistakes two months ago and have never even received acknowledgement of the letter. Furthermore we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Tri County has ignored them completely. So congratulations Yelp, apparently they care enough about you to post on your website. I was in the market for a new grill. Tri County was listed as a dealer so I decided to pay them a visit. The person behind the counter made himself available and promptly came out of the counter when I had questions about a specific model. When I asked about pricing, I was pleasantly surprised that their price was better than a large online retailer specializing in BBQ's. Once I decided to purchase the grill, my salesman wanted to verify that he had it in stock. This is where this retailer went above and beyond. They did verify that they had the grill, and loaded it up on my truck. When I made it home, I realized that the grill loaded was wrong. I went back and the salesman did acknowledge that it was the wrong one (The manufacturer number designation makes it a bit difficult to figure out). Unfortunately, after physically looking in the warehouse, they did not have the right one in stock. The manager at this time came out to assist me. He apologized about not having the grill and offered me the new floor model. When I told him that I could not fit the assembled unit in my truck even if I took the floor model, he offered to personally deliver it to my house for me at no charge. After some deliberating, I decided to take him up on my offer and they even threw in a grill cover. I told him that there was no rush as long as I could get it by the weekend. This purchase was made on a Monday The following morning I received a phone call to schedule and appointment for delivery. We agreed on a delivery window for Wednesday. On Wednesday, we were surprised to hear that the technicians making the delivery were a bit early. I was not home but my family was home to receive the grill. When I got home in the evening, I went outside to look at my new grill and I don't know how, but this was not a the floor model! IT WAS A BRAND NEW UNIT!. I have no idea how they did it but they got me a brand new one with plastic still on the handle and protective film on the stainless steel. I can't stress how impressed I am by these folks. Everyone was extremely professional and went out of their way to make me happy. In this day and age where we have gotten used to mediocre service from big box retailers it is refreshing to see that a traditional store can be competitive in price with exceptional CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will buy all my grill supplies from these folks, but will refer them as much business as I can. Tri County; GREAT JOB!!!! read more

Victor T 2/4/15 This company has the most atrocious customer service I have ever encountered as an adult consumer. We purchased a wood insert back in November 2014, and as of February 2015 it is STILL not functioning properly. We have called them out for repairs at least three times each time it's basically take a spot in line, we'll get to you. They even called and had one repair appointment changed three times. Not sure about you all but we are working people so that means we had to adjust our schedules three times. So they the visits begin, one to replace the thermostat ON A NEW INSERT, once after that because the repair affected the operation of the damper lever (too tight, had to re-adjust), once again after that because the blower fan adjustment wheel was not tighten and fell off several times making it frustrating to adjust the blower fan. And now, AGAIN the fan has stopped working. Not sure if it's the blower fan or the thermostat, AGAIN, called the company on February the 2nd and they instantly told us we can't come out until February 20th. We call them back on the 3rd of February to see if this date could be expedited only to be told they will have to order parts for the fan. I guess a part of my frustration is I'm not sure how they determined that it's a new blower fan that my unit will need. No one has come by to troubleshoot to ensure they would be ordering exactly what they would need.... Oh I get it they want us to call them back AGAIN after they install the new blower motor and the problem turns out to be the thermostat AGAIN. I think it would enhance this outfit a great deal to EDUCATE its technicians and re-train its office staff. The owner states that she "strives for all our customers to be totally happy with their purchase"; well according to the YELP complaints, we must not be the customers that she's referring too. read more

Went in and asked for two 4 foot sections of stove gasket. The female salesperson presumably measured (off to the side), then handed me the product in a bag. Luckily, I had asked for more length than I needed for both pieces because when I got home, neither piece had been measured correctly...one being 42 inches and the other 45 inches. When I called the next morning to point it out, they were very blase' and wanted to know what I wanted "to do about it". At that point my response was: Teach your employees to use a tape measure. My initial intent was not to be rude, but I found their attitude to be unprofessional. This is the second time in as many years I have found them to be this way. Though for years they offered wonderful service, they seem to feel they are now "the only game in town". I had them clean my elderly dad's chimney two years ago, and the young tech tried to intimidated my dad, did not explain what he was doing, demanded more money, and tried to bully him in into signing a document telling him his insurance would be nullified if he did not do so. Fortunatly, my dad was smart enough to just pay the initial cleaning fee and send the guy on his way. We will go out of our way now...even for a gasket...rather than return to this place of business. read more

When my decision was made she was efficient with the paperwork required with ordering the stove. When the stove arrived, she notified me and arranged for the installation. The installer was very good at assembling the stove. Overall, I was very pleased with my transaction. read more

I bought a Osburn fireplace insert from this business and had them install it. Service after the sale is about average. However, the salesperson told me BEFORE the sale that my insert qualified for a MD state energy rebate. Turns out it does not. Too late now. This coupled with a few installation problems, expensive add on costs, and the blower motor starting to give out after only a few uses forces me to give a below average overall rating. read more

The worst possible customer service I've ever been associated with. We purchased a wood insert back in August and yet it still isn't in proper working order. We have called them numerous times and they asked us to do the troubleshooting on how to keep our glass on our wood insert clean. It is ridiculous that instead of coming out and reviewing the problem they put us in contact with the vendor in California and tried to troubleshoot via pictures and emails. When we asked for a refund they said we had surpassed our 30 day warranty notice. We explained to them that it took 3 weeks for the unit to come in then it took them another 20 days for them to special order a piece to extend the chimney. So before we could even use the insert we had already surpassed our 30 day warranty. When we asked them to extend the 30 day warranty they wouldn't answer our question. We continued to call them on a daily basis to try and figure out what the issue with the glass is and they say nothing is wrong with it. Clearly we bought the biggest glass front unit to be able to see the fire. However with the glass being covered in creosote where even with the hottest fire it won't burn off we think there may be a leak in the seal around the glass or another issue. I can't believe a family business would operate with us. We even had the owners son out and a number of other installers and employees out and every single one of them agreed that there was an issue with the creosote covered glass. When we continuously called Tri-State they tried to dodge our question. Do not use this business if you want to buy a fireplace unit and expect if you have a problem with it to be resolved. read more
