By the way, I have never done business there but had heard wonderful things about them. I entered the office and told my tale of woe to Robert DeSimone, the owner of this fine establishment for over 40 years. He dropped everything and led me to the garage where he asked one of his mechanics to troubleshoot. The young man quickly determined the problem was minor but exacerbated by the incorrect size screw the previous body shop had used to fix the problem the last time. Ninety minutes later, after he seemingly ran miles from one toolbox to another to find the right bulb and screw, the incredibly kind, hardworking, courteous, tenacious, always smiling mechanic pronounced the problem fixed. When I suggested to the owner that we go process my payment, he said "no charge." I ranted and raved about the absurdity of that but soon realized I had the good fortune of coming upon a fellow human being who personified some of what the Days of Awe are intended for........to reflect on how a small act of kindness can waken us, especially during these sometimes dark times, to the goodness in man. While I walked away in awe of Mr. DeSimone's magnanimous gesture, I know he, too, understood the reward of benevolence. The closing chapter of what almost seemed like a fable was, when I went to thank the mechanic and joyfully compensate him, I asked him his name, and it was Moses. Though he barely spoke English, he is representative of what our country can be and was partially responsible for making me feel as if I had.....at least for a day.....been shepherded out of my fear and concern for the state of our world and found solace at a local body shop.

The gentleman said "I remember you, you came by last year!" He said he would do it and I was even willing to pay more since the cost of materials and expenses had gone up. I brought my car within a few days and my car was ready THE SAME DAY! He honored the price he gave me a year ago! I couldn't wait to see it! To my amazement it looked like a brand new car again. Since I am planning to keep my car for another ten years I didn't want to have to keep looking at the damage and feeling bad for the next ten years.
