We stopped by this tattoo shop over the weekend to check out the museum. The displays could have been better labeled, but at least Elyse was kind enough to give us a quick tour before we explored a bit on our own. Lots of cool and interesting artifacts and exhibits to see. The work of some of their tattoo artists, as well as circus and sideshow art, including a famous sword swallower. No photos are allowed in the back rooms which include cultural pieces and photography, miniature sculptures of 20th century tat equipment, and a section for tattoos without consent (i.e. japanese punitive tats and those used during the reign of hitler and the holocaust). Note, they don't really honor their listed hours, meaning they may close more than an hour early or the door may be locked midday with a note that they will return hours later. I'm not a fan of unreliable hours being communicated with the public. But I do appreciate that it's free to visit the museum. read more

Shout out to Niki Needles! My husband and I went in wanting random tattoos. He wanted an aloha monkey and she pranked him with a design he loved and ended up getting. I saw a spin the wheel tattoo I wanted and as fate would have it that's what it landed on. A Venus flytrap towards my flower in sleeve. Honestly she's so kind and fun to be around. Let me tell y'all something-- if you're in Fort Bragg.. definitely stop by here to explore! The museum itself is awesome (and free). It is full of pictures and tattoo related items. The three ladies that work here are super chill and create a great atmosphere. My boyfriend ended up getting his first tattoo here, and it was a great first experience! He got a redwood to commemorate our trip, and his artist talked him through the process, and answered all the questions he had. Could not recommend this place enough! read more

What a perfect spot Triangle is! If you are an appreciater of tattoo culture and history, this wonderful shop near the coast is a must visit. Right in the middle of downtown, Triangle is very easy to find. I visited to explore the museum, and though it is informally laid out, it is almost overwhelming! I was incredibly lucky in my wanderings of the displays to be greeted by a warm and lovely older woman - who turned out to be Madame Chinchilla, the owner and a legend in the industry! Next thing I know I'm getting a personal tour of her curated collection of designs, artifacts and photos. Her passion is intense, but even those who might be intimidated to cross paths with a heavily tattooed woman should not hesitate. The more you learn about tattoo culture, you learn that those who choose to ink themselves are masters of self expression and exploration. Their company is most welcome. Madame Chinchilla praising my wrist tattoos for their beauty will be a highlight of my life! They absolutely could have accommodated me that day had I been a walk-in client - they have MASSIVE flash displays and are definitely there for the love of the work. Next time! I never thought I would get a tattoo, but my husband said we should get matching tattoos and I said sure. I'm 41, I'm here, why not. We popped into the coolest place in Fort Bragg to look around at the museum and started talking to the nice staff. They provided use the history of the place and had us look around in the different rooms. We mentioned to them what we would like done and told them we would be back the next day. The next day we were waiting at the doors for them to open like it was the 80's and it was Mervyns. We were treated by Niki Needles and were so jazzed she was working because I heard great reviews from her when I was asking around the night before. We showed Niki what we wanted and she sketched up a cool stencil. I had the pleasure of working with Cat on my tattoo and was blown away at her work. My husband warned me before that the tattoo may not turn out exactly how I imagine, which he was right, it was better than I could have imagined. Cat did a phenomenal job on my tattoo.. It looks so amazing. Cat is great to talk to and had some great insights. She is focused when she works and does a great job. Once Cat finished, Niki started working on my husbands tattoo. It is amazing seeing the same stencil from two artists perspective. FABULOUS. Niki is one cool chick, and is fun to laugh with. Her work is fantastic and impressive. 8/16/22 Niki did BRILLIANT delicate & vibrant butterfly over old botched hearts & gothic scrolls!! However upon entering a settling in the staff was very accommodating and while I was deff the "old man" in the crowd was made to feel very comfortable and felt in place. My wife and I went in and were immediately greeted by Nicola. She took our ideas and worked on the design. I had her modify mine a few different times and was apologetic that I felt like I was being too picky. She was so great and so patient with me while she worked on getting my design just right. First of all, I am sure that this is beyond my yelp statute of limitations but this place is too cool to not add a review. I went here years ago and still look back on the visit fondly. It is free - although they do gladly accept donations. There are really neat exhibits that explore the art of tattooing, including: - All sorts of tattooing tools and machines - A disturbing, yet engaging exhibit called "Tattoos Without Consent", examining when tattoos are forced upon individuals (i.e. Holocaust victims and survivors) - "The Women's Wall" which features portraits of tattooed women from different countries and time periods The museum is small but packed full of history and culture. Worst place ever for a tattoo. I've been getting inked for 24 yrs and NEVER have I had an "self proclaimed" artist tell me they wouldn't complete the tattoo the way we had agreed upon! Madam Chinchilla is a neurotic person who needs to decide if she's running a museum or a tattoo shop. I didn't go there to be part of the scenery. I asked for dog paws. I brought an imprint of an actual paw AND one of my dogs which, even though she's a 70 lb American Bully, my husband was able to make a copy of her foot. So there is no excuse. M Chinchilla got as far as SHE decided was ok and left my tattoo unfinished! I went to a REAL artist yesterday and had my other 2 paws done and will be having this artist do a cover and repair of the atrocity M Chinchilla left on me. She seems like a nice enough lady, but we all have to move on in our life. I think it's time for her to work the register. Best of luck to the other artists there who do good work. She also did a piece for a friend of mine which came out nice but most certainly is NOT worthy of the claims to talent made by this woman. read more

Extremely over priced for the quality of work. Two stars for the friendliness at the time of getting the tattoo. I had to sit for over 2 hours for a tattoo that shouldn't have taken longer than 45 minutes. I was told it was because it was my first tattoo and she was going lighter--although I felt fine the entire time. The extra length of time just seemed to cause uneven line weight (you can see where it was gone over more at the beginning). When I called to schedule a touch up after it healed I was told to wait a couple more weeks to see if the color would come through.. so I called a couple of weeks later and tried to schedule something a month out because it's a 4 hour drive for me and I wanted it done on a Saturday so it would have some time to heal before work on Monday. I was told they wouldn't do it on Saturday because it doesn't look good to be doing touch ups. My tattoo looks more faded than my friend's 20 year old tattoos and I paid twice what most places would charge and sat three times as long. Would not recommend if you live more than an hour away and work during the week. read more

This is a must see museum. You are welcome here and free to explore. We started up the stairs unsure of what we would find We were greeted my the resident tattoo artist to explore. Beyond an amazing collection of flash, you will find the entire history of tattooing. From fire eaters, sword swallowers, circus folk, history of Japanese tattoos or military tattooing....even a wall dedicated to forced tattooing. The collection would take days to read and explore. No photos allowed hence no photos by me. We had the great fortune of meeting the most wonderful host and owner Madam Chinchilla and she took so much time with us, sharing her stories, collection and we even left with a handful of her favorite quotes. My husband and I spent a weekend in Mendocino. Stopped by Triangle Tattoo on Saturday, left our ideas for designs, and we were inked by Sunday afternoon. They worked with our schedule. At first I didn't know if our ideas were heard because it was busy and everyone had to multitask, but no worries! The finished product exceeded our expectations. Nikki also made adjustments as we worked over the designs a bit. She was very open to suggestions and really took the time to get the image exactly to our specifications. M. All my life I said I would never get a tattoo. But having met Mme. Chinchilla and Mr. G some years ago during a documentary shoot, I said if I EVER got one it would be with them. And now, more than a decade later, I am sporting my beautiful new tribal ankle tattoo, which was applied with concern, skill and joy by the two of them (an unusual thing to have them both, but it was symbolic to me). Got to meet Madame Chinchilla, what a very laid back chill spectacular woman. When invited in to see her "room" she has all these special pictures all over her studio of the many places and special people that have influenced her life. She is very wise beyond words! I admire that woman for all she has done to and for the Tattoo community. She asked to take a picture of my girlfriends peacock tattoo on her thigh, Madame Chinchilla said she loved the colors. It was mine and my friends first time getting a tattoo, and our experience was amazing. There was a group of 7 of us and 2 artist. I'm amazed at how talented these two men are. This place was awesome! I have no tattoos but the museum was recommended to me by a local so I decided to check it out. The museum starts the second you walk through the door-there are photos and drawings of awesome tattoos throughout the entire place. The walls are covered from floor to ceiling with awesome tattoos from around the world. There are also old tattooing tools which were very interesting to see. Madame Chinchilla, one of the owners began talking to us very quickly, she was happy to answer all of our questions about the shop as well as the town. I have a few tattoos several of them from High Voltage Tattoo in LA so we drop in on places like this when we are able. This was a total experience! The lady caught me talking a picture of a guy who looked like a friend of mine and she told me "no pictures". I was considering getting a tattoo here that I am going to get soon but, nope, not going to do it. I am very picky and risk intolerant when it comes to tattoos. The museum was the best I have seen and as with all tattoo stuff it requires a thick candy shell to stomach. I love my tattoos, they mean a lot to me and this place was really cool. I am a big fan of this shop/museum! My husband wanted to get a tattoo and didn't have an appointment, but they were easily able to accommodate us. He ended up getting a traditional swallow tattoo by Joe, who was great. He and the other artist that were there were very friendly and made us very comfortable. The whole process took about an hour, and then we wandered around the museum for a while. They have so many items to look at that someone could easily spend hours and still miss things. This shop doesn't have the snobbish or grungy feel that a lot of shops in our hometown have, and I would recommend it to anyone! read more

If you ever get a chance to visit this shop and museum, you will not be disappointed! This is not a typical museum. The artifacts and information about tattooing was abundant and I loved the way it was displayed throughout the shop and how you were able to just walk around at your own pace and all questions welcomed. I also thought the area dedicated to "Unwanted Tattoos" was extremely interesting and disturbing because we don't always think about the situations where this has happened (I.e., holocaust, prisons.) I was able to spend some time with Madam Chinchilla who is just a lovely woman to speak to and answer any questions about tattooing or about her life and experiences. She even copied some articles for me to read since we were just passing through the area. I didn't get a chance to speak to Mr. G but I think he welcomed my husband and myself when we first arrived. To me tattooing is an art so meeting the artist was fascinating! Put this on your list of "must see." read more

I went in yesterday with a vision of a tattoo that I have been wanting for quite some time. I held off until Triangle was able to reopen because I have full trust in the artists that work here. I was lucky enough to get an appointment with the owner Mr. G. he sat with me and found not only the perfect size but the perfect place to put the Rainbow Sea Turtle that I was so wanting. Five and a half hours later I left the shop[ with a smile and a tattoo that I will treasure for years. The whole time he was working Mr. G. and I held conversations about different things tattoo as well as the sword swallower Capt. Don Leslie and the interactions he had with this world famous man.
