TriBecca's is a tiny (tiny!) sandwich shop in Avondale. There's a single booth that might uncomfortably seat 4 and a bench that could seat another 2-3. They do have an arrangement with the coffee shop two doors down where you can take your sandwiches over to eat. We came for lunch and it was actually quite impressive to see how busy they were! Delivery drivers were coming in and out the entire time. I grabbed the tofu cubano and the potato salad. The choice of tofu actually made for a very light sandwich that didn't sit in your stomach like a brick. The potato salad was also pretty delicious. I can see why TriBecca's is so popular. I've given this place many chances, and today was my last. I had a long day ahead of me and wanted to start it with a good breakfast sandwich, but unfortunately, like every other visit, it was just okay--not great. For the prices being charged, I would expect a much higher-quality, gourmet experience, but the food consistently falls short of that expectation. The takeout packaging is also an issue. The paper sticks to the sandwiches and ends up on the food, which is unappetizing and ruins an already expensive meal. I think the owner would benefit from being more involved in overseeing the food being served and focusing on quality control. There seems to be a disconnect between the prices and the quality of the product. The cheeserito: perfect size, great crunch and one of the best sandwiches I had had....until I tried the Cubanito. I mean, that was amazing! Crinkle cut fries were perfectly cooked, as well. Love how busy it was because more local success is needed in our ever changing Avondale neighborhood. When I was in there, they were playing all the '80s hits from when I was in high school. I swung by after doing an errand for lunch and was surprisingly impressed by the place. Its a little on the smaller side, but it looks like I went there at the perfect time. I wasn't sure if I could sit there so I ordered for pickup. It was a breeze to order. I went with the French Onion French Dip which was ready and hot when I arrived. Yum! What a great flavor and the meat was cooked perfectly. I will give particular praise to the roll the sandwich was on. Sometimes French Dips have an overly hard roll to withstand the juice. This was more of a toasted roll similar to what you would get an Italian Beef. Perfect bread actually! If I were to say there are any downsides, it would be price. This place is very expensive. I ordered the Blanche breakfast sandwich with bacon and an instant coffee. They provide creamer and sugar packets. The space inside is small so it's really more of a to-go sandwich shop. However, it was empty when I visited so I was able to enjoy my sandwich and hot coffee there. You order at the kiosk and the staff brings your order to you. WOW, I assumed the breakfast sandwich would probably be good but I was not expecting it that satisfying! It was unbelievably tasty. Crinkle Fries and Tots were average, from frozen from what I could tell. Chipotle Mayo helped the cause. Wife said the Ranch Broccoli Salad was very average, and lacked a flavor punch. We were happy to see several vegetarian sandwich options. Both daughter and I got the Tofu Cubano. We wish it looked like the photo on the website. I had to try the "Cubano" sandwich, which, like the restraint photo, has crispy toasted bread, a generous amount of meat, etc. Radiatore Pasta Pepper Jack Mac and Cheese pasta is cooked just right and coated with Pepperjack Cheese. I just had to try the Banana Pudding. It was nice and smooth, and I lucked out because it happened to be the last one. The owner is very nice and helpful with the menu items. read more

I'm so glad we tried TriBecca's based on the positive Yelp reviews I saw. The place is very small, as others have stated, but we found seats at the counter facing the wall. Not an ideal view, but the food made up for it. Ordering is done via a screen next to the kitchen. Easy peasy! The staff was super friendly and helpful (I think they knew we were first-timers). I ordered the Tofu Cubano and it was delicious. I love that they have multiple vegetarian selections. I would love to come back and try them all. Their breakfast sandwiches are absolutely scrumptious- I love "The Blanche" with bacon & avocado. It is deliciously made with fluffy egg and pickled jalapeños on sourdough English muffin. It's a truly satisfying way to start your day. Their sandwiches are devine! I really like the meatball sandwich (eating it feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket) and the spicy tuna (light, flavorful and not TOO spicy) however the turkey Caesar is my absolute favorite, with a nice amount of Caesar dressing it's a salad and sandwich all in one- I mean, you can't go wrong with that! (I could eat it every day) !!! The ingredients are fresh and skillfully paired creating a sandwich experience that you won't forget!!! The true show stopper on the menu is one of their donuts- with a beautiful raspberry glaze that is not overly sweet paired with crushed pretzels on top. We got 3 sandwiches and split them all: Duck Confit Grilled Cheese, Cubano and Maidwrong. "You think you know, but you have no idea" The grilled cheese is gooey, but not the gooey you're thinking. The Maidwrong looks like a sloppy mess but it's totally not. These sandwiches are Gooooood! So so so good! The sides are great too (Mack cheese, broccoli slaw) but their sandwiches are big and rich... you almost need to go into your order KNOWING you're going to take 1/2 of your sandwich home... or effffff that and go big! This spot has been on my list of places I've wanted to try for a while now. It's a little far from my neighborhood but I happened to be in the area today, it was well worth the trip! We had the Sofia and the turkey special. Both sandwiches were flavorful and fresh. I should have taken pictures but we ate everything too fast! We also got tomato soup, which I really enjoyed having to dip the sandwiches in. Prices are not bad at all for the city- I got my drink, sandwich, and soup for about $20. Staff was friendly and helpful with any questions we had while ordering. Been meaning to give TriBecca's a try for way too long and when I stumbled upon an IG post of theirs featuring the Turkey Caesar I knew that I could wait no more. I'll admit that the seasoned tortilla crisps made me hesitate about ordering this but trusting the restaurant's choices really paid off. From the thick-sliced turkey to the perfectly toasted bread and everything in between this was just an obviously very thoughtfully crafted sandwich that made for a delicious lunch. All the more surprising that I was able to order and pick up so quickly. Also grabbed one of their vanilla glazed potato donuts and that was really tasty too. I've been wanting to try TriBeccas ever since they opened. I love Honey Butter Fried Chicken and knew I had to try this spin-off sandwich shop of theirs. The inside is small with one table to sit on. They offer about 10 different sandwiches, yet I still felt like the menu was kind of small. Perhaps because maybe there weren't enough options that I feel I would like. It did however make it really easy to decide on what I would order. The TriBecca Cubano stood out amongst all of them. The sandwich was very filling and definitely not your traditional cubano. This sandwich came with ham, mojo pork, Swiss cheese, a very delicious chipotle aioli, mustard butter, all in between a ciabatta bread. It was really good. The box seemed small at first, but I was definitely left satisfied. I will definitely be coming back for some more. read more

A cute little sandwich shop in Avondale with a tiny interior space-- just one small booth and a couple bar chairs for indoor seating. It wasn't too packed on a Sunday afternoon though, and my friend and I were able to get seats. They have a unique, creative, and expansive selection of vegetarian sandwiches, which is what initially drew us here. Although the sandwiches were good and they were packed / filling enough to be worth the price, I came in with high expectations that came a little shy of being met. My friend and I got the Tofu Cubano and Crispy "Frosted" Cauliflower sandwich. I was a little disappointed by the presentation of the Tofu Cubano. The ratio of tofu vs. other ingredients listed on the menu was off to me-- it's packed with two big squares of tofu and sauce, but not much else. The bread was delicious, crunchy and and well toasted, and the sauce was very flavorful, but I wish they put more of the other ingredients inside for a more complex texture and flavor profile. The tofu itself was also not very well seasoned-- the sauce and bread carried all the flavor of this sandwich. I liked the Cauliflower sandwich better: Aesthetically, it's a very tall sandwich that's hard to fit in the mouth. The cauliflower was flavorful and well fried, with a good mix of sauces and other ingredients. The bun was soft and well toasted. I definitely recommend this one over the Tofu Cubano, which is a shame because based on the menu at least, the Tofu Cubano had so much potential and I was really looking forward to it. Let me first apologize for the uncharacteristically terrible pictures I took of these wonderful sandwiches. They held up particularly well during our take out experience, but there was simply no real elegant way to display them once cut prior to reheating. The good news is, I'll have another chance to get great photos because this is going to be one of my go to sandwich places. Sandwich shops, good uniques one, are stunningly hard to come by in Chicago, something that always sort of baffles me. You've got JTs, L&M does some nice ones, or you can head down to Vinnie's or Tempesta on Grand, but unlike New York or even New Jersey, they are few and far between. TriBecca's, obviously a play on that posh NY neighborhood, offers unique sandwiches with rotating specials. The bread, sourced from pHlour, is excellent, particularly the ciabatta. A good sandwich starts with the bread, and theirs is perfect, crispy and flavorful with enough structure to support the goodness inside. The Roasted CAM is the absolute star of the show, roasted carrots and portobello mushrooms along with sliced apples and melted fontina. It is an exceptional sandwich, a perfect combination of flavors and textures. Truly great and delicious. The Tofu Cubano was quite good as well, again with perfectly melty cheese and the crispy texture of the tofu. The pickles really elevate this one, necessary acid and sour to cut through the gooey cheese and aioli. Is it truly a veggie Cubano? Maybe not, perhaps they want to add veggie bacon/ham for another note, but it's very good. The Mozzarella Plank is a tougher one to review, a special recently added to the menu. Again, everything is fresh, and the bread and cheese are dynamite. I could have used a lot more of the basil in the basil aioli, and perhaps more balsamic as well. The issue is that it's a little one note, just not overly interesting, especially next to the two other spectacular sandwiches. As far as sides, the mac and cheese was fine, though a pretty small portion. Call it an elevated Kraft Mac & Cheese, with just a hint of jalapeño to give it a kick. As others have said, the crinkle fries do appear to be frozen, nothing too special going on there. But, at least two of the sandwiches deserve to be in the running for best and most unique in the city, and everything is fresh, well crafted and thought out, and delicious. read more
