05/16/26 - I went to have a test done @ The advocate facility on Western Ave & Irving Park. After I got done I looked through Yelp & found a number of good breakfast spots within a short distance. I opted to go to Alexander's Restaurant that is located 1/2 mile north of Irving & Western on the SE corner of Montrose & Western Ave. I walked there as it was a beautiful day about 60 degrees & sunny. They have a breakfast special w/3 eggs, 3 pieces of sausage, ham or bacon (I chose the bacon) & hash browns & toast or 2 pancakes (i chose the pancakes). All for $12.12. This place is pure brunch perfection. We happened to be North Center waiting on our car to be repaired and sought out some yummy food while waiting the estimate. On this Saturday morning, we found free parking outside near the park. We were lucky that a booth was open upon our arrival. As the morning pushed on they gathered quite a crowd. The service and selection of food choices were excellent. Decor and seating was bright and modern. We opted for fresh squeezed oj which was perfect. For food I got the Greek scramble which was divine. It came with a short stack of pancakes and I ordered some sausage patties on the side. My meal was served piping hot. I enjoyed every morsel and had leftovers to take home. My husband ordered the meat omelette which was loaded with protein. I don't think he cared for the hamburger meat in the omelette. It would be better with breakfast sausage. All in all, we were thoroughly satisfied with our selections and would return to this fine establishment time and time again. read more

If you're looking for good breakfast with hearty portions- look no more. This has the nice diner type of ambiance - without over inflated prices. I had the meat lovers skillet and it was more than enough . The only part that I didn't like was the hamburger in the skillet- it would've been better with sausage. Food was good, typical diner food. The service was exceptional. Attentive without hovering. Both our waiter and person who brought our brunch to the table were very welcoming and kind. The food was fair priced for the quality and portions. I ordered $12:12 pecial and got 3 eggs, 3 bacon slices (cooked perfectly crispy), hashbrowns (needed salt or other seasoning) ,2 pancakes. I really enjoyed the pancakes. They were thin, airy and I tasted cornmeal which was a nice surprise. I think Real maple syrup would have been great but it's an easy fix. Ambiance was chill. Alexander's is a smaller, cozy home-like diner with good food and great value. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday around 3:30pm craving a much-needed breakfast / brunch style meal (thank goodness they are open until 4:00pm!) Even half an hour before closing there was a pretty solid amount of customers - Seems like it might be a regular haunt of the neighborhood. California and Mexican Skillets were wonderful - the only issue being the salsa and tortillas that were listed were not included with the latter - but after asking our waitress she fixed the issue and gave us them extra in addition to a side of pancakes. Very solid place with a relaxing diner vibe (sitting near the kitchen and hearing sizzling and cooking pans while sipping coffee was such a morning ASMR feeling). The restaurant also has a (very) small parking lot in the back with free parking for customers - and street parking is available otherwise. Had a craving. Pancakes perfect though smaller.... Was a bit let down due to the hasbrowns being burnt and lacking vegetables in ladies skillet. Not as plentiful and perfect. They were overwhelmed. We got their breakfast specials which includes 3 eggs any style, choice of meat (ham, bacon or sausage), hash browns , choice of toast. Coffee or juice is included. All For $12.12. It was a fabulous deal. One picked scrambled eggs and bacon with juice. While I got the ham with sunny side up eggs and coffee. Portions are large and food was great. I can't believe it has taken me so long to review Alexander's. They took over a greasy spoon I loved gave it a fresh update and continued to serve a great meal. Friendly staff tasty food, what more can you ask for. I tried Alexanders for the first time this afternoon. It's kind of noisy when your first walk in, I would suggest moving to the back of the restaurant past the front counter towards the booths near the bathrooms. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy with two eggs and bacon on the side. If you want only Biscuits & Gravy it's $9.50 compared to $14.50 with the extras. They give you four half biscuits, some restaurants just give you two. The Biscuits & Gravy were good but it could have used a little bit more of the gravy, the eggs were perfectly cooked as was the crispy bacon. The coffee is good and the waitstaff is welcoming and always around if you need water or coffee refills. I would take a pass on going there on the weekends it's always busy and you'll wind up waiting for a table. read more

I used to live around the corner from Alexander's and would patronize them fairly regularly. It was a friendly efficient place with reliably good food from a pretty standard Greek diner menu. I had lunch there today for the first time in a couple of years, and I think they are under new ownership; I didn't recognize any of the employee's faces. The change has definitely not been for the better. Service was slow; my waiter was engaged in a phone conversation for about ten minutes before he could take my order. I ordered a wrap with spinach feta and chicken that was pretty bad, not nearly up to the standards I remembered. There is an Ann Sather's maybe a half mile west on Granville. I'm not a huge fan of that chain, but it is unquestionably a better option now. read more

The ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, setting the perfect mood for a relaxing brunch. What truly sets them apart is their impeccable service! The staff was attentive, kind and quick to our requests. Our waters and coffee were never empty. A truly baby friendly establishment. They quickly brought a high chair to our table and stored away our stroller. Staff is really friendly, attentive and good looking! I say this next statement with the caveat that I WOULD come back and order something else. Some of the breakfast entrees looked great. And a brief conversation with other diners confirmed that they were tasty. My companion and I ordered a Turkey Club and a BLT, respectively. Standard diner fare, seemingly always delicious. However, these sandwiches were BORING. Light on the bacon, the tomatoes were somewhat mealy and light colored. Bread was tasteless and cheap. Disappointing. The soups were okay. Creamy Chicken and Rice was mostly creamy and not a lot of chicken OR rice. The Lentil soup was very good, though. I want this place to do well. I may come back and try something else. read more

Alexander's is a solid diner option in Lincoln Square. I can only speak to breakfast foods. Everything has been great, skillets, chilaquiles, omelettes, all good. This has become our go to weekend breakfast spot. It is a family owned restaurant where the food is tasty and the service is great. You cannot go wrong with the morning special or my favorite La Bamba skillet. If you get there after 10am on Saturday/Sunday you might have to wait for a bit. We try to make it before 9 we love the friendly staff and all the bright light. It is across the park which my kid loves. First time getting food here. I ordered delivery. This is the site of the former many decades old Jeri's Grill (Diner.) I ordered Greek Scrambled, an order of toast, and an order of Bacon. The Greek Scrambled is supposed to include Feta Cheese, tomatoes, and sauteed onion. What I received could not have had any Feta Cheese in it as I could not see any nor taste any. The onions came raw like. Definitely not sauteed. The scrambled Greek was basically not very well cooked scrambled eggs and tomatoes. Order of bacon for $4.50 consisted of 3 slices. Come on 3 slices for basically 5 bucks? The toast was the best part of the meal which is pretty sad. I wish them the best and hope this was a bad one off or they improve if this is how their food always is, but I don't see me ordering from here again. I don't go to Alexander's for the food (which is excellent). I go for the wonderful atmosphere and friendly vibe. There are 7 tables in front and 3 in the back with enormous windows which is so great on a gray day. When you sit in in back you feel like you are in the VIP section of a club (minus the magnums). It is also a great place to go when you are in need of a smile. read more
