FIRST OFF, RESIDENT DOCTOR JESSICA KRANDAL TOLD MY MOM WHILE SHE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL TO JUST DIE,…read moreNO ONE WANTS HER ALIVE!!!!! MY MOM TOLD ME THIS OUT HER OWN MOUTH. THEN SHE TELLS MY MOM'S FIANCE HE CAN STOP COMING TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE MY MOM ISN'T MAKING IT OUT THERE ALIVE. HERE'S THE STORY BEHIND ALL THIS. I will start off with the latest occurrence when my mother died. My mom was diagnosed with double pneumonia (both lungs) back in July 2024. She went to Trident and they treated her. They sent her home a week later. The nurse that came by her home checked her hemoglobin levels and it was at a 0 a few days later. She told my mom to rush to the hospital asap or she could die shortly. Since she lived about a mile from Trident she went back. She kept complaining about the IV they gave her in her arm. She said the IV kept hurting. Apparently, they put the needle in her arm, into the bone. I have attached a photo of how bruised her arm was when they finally removed the IV the next day, and many calls to the nurse. After about two weeks, they sent her home. None of us knowing , they never cured the pneumonia. One day at home she said she couldn't breathe, so she went to Roper in Summerville, they moved her to the downtown Charleston location. She stayed there for about a week. They sent her to rehab to get her strength back for walking. While at rehab she started having chest issues, and they sent her back to Trident. While there, they said the pneumonia was not getting better, or worse, it was stagnant. We thought they got rid of the pneumonia this whole time. One day she would do good, the next day she would do bad. They put her in ICU and called us and told us to come see her because she only has hours to live. We had the whole family there to see her. The next day, she was laughing and talking. Another doctor we haven't seen before said she has about 48% lung capacity left, due to COPD and Emphysema, and of course, the pneumonia. He said his goal was to have her breathing on her own so he put her on a nasal tube to have her breathing. She would talk to us and use her phone. The next morning, we get another call from a different person stating she isn't doing well and she will likely pass that day. We went to see her and stayed with her for hours. For two days she was on the mask to help her breathe. The next day, she was back on the nasal tube. Laughing and trying to talk, but her voice was weak. We kept getting calls in the mornings saying she isn't doing well, but the night time, she would do well. We couldn't understand it. One doctor said she is moving in the right direction, and the other doctor would say the opposite. One day while I was there visiting my mom a resident Dr. named Jessica Krandal came in. She was staring at my mom weirdly. I didn't understand why. A day or two later my mom tells me the Resident Dr. Jessica Krandal told her to, "just die, no one wants her alive!" We told the nursing station about the situation and they said they would not allow her back in my mom's room, and contact her boss. A day later, she's back in the room, telling my mom's fiance that my mom is not getting out the hospital alive and he can stop coming. The day of my mom's passing, a few days later, the doctor calls me on the phone and tells me to come down there because she's not doing well. Then she proceeds to put Jessica Krandal on the phone, after all this, they put her on the phone. This was a slap in the face. ....another incident involving my then 16-years-old son. He woke us up at 4am saying he can't breathe. We sent him back to bed and again, he woke us back up, saying he can't breathe. We took him to Trident, and they said he has anxiety. My wife argued about what does he have to cause that much anxiety. They did a test on him and found out his heart was beating irregularly. They rushed him to MUSC where he was diagnosed with myocarditis. Please, avoid this place if possible.

Having to deal with a hospital, a LOT more often than not will evoke a feeling of anxiety or worse…read more That's why it's important to know up front the type of care and facilities are abundant and their reputation. For the record, I've had to deal with hospitals in six states for 13 surgeries, 10 procedures, 8 ER visits as well as having to attend to family members who were in critical or relatively bad condition so I have a pretty large sample size to draw comparisons. That leads me to this review for Trident Medical Center which isn't very good. I'll be factual and leave emotion out of the review as it's important to be fair and balanced. First off when I drove to visit my family, there was a huge pothole in the main road leading up to the hospital. It took weeks to fix and when I asked the nurses about that and they giggled as if it's an ongoing joke. It has since been repaired but it gives pause that a hazard at a hospital isn't repaired in expedited fashion. One of my loved ones was transferred from their satellite facilities to this one located on Medical Plaza during an emergency situation. The records and/or information either wasn't fully documented or properly received thus slowing down the treatment at the main center. I'm very disturbed how the first hospitals findings can summarily be waved in favor of restarting the root cause efforts of a critical patient. Next the doctors without consulting my mother called in a specialist doctor for more input. The next of kin are required to be consulted when bringing in other medical professionals. Moreover, this doctor only reinforced what the initial satellite facility had originally suggested. I completely understand the effort to give fast and quality care however if an initial doctor makes a diagnosis based on tests why redo the same efforts? As for the nurses they were great in almost all aspects of their respective jobs. They gave us good communication, were accurate with their needles (trust me, I've had really bad experiences will less than stellar nurses) and attentive to the patient. As for their demeanor they were pleasant but worked with efficiency to ensure the comfort of the patient. There is one small issue as another loved one had a do not resuscitate order and this was made clear in the paperwork and my brother. The acting staff then encouraged my family to keep him alive "and all he had to live for." The severity of the situation dictated otherwise; thus these needless conversations only make the process inconvenient for the family and prolong the patients suffering as care was and wasn't administered until this was resolved in the eyes of the hospital. Finally, I'm not sure who cleans the hospital as every time I've stayed at a hospital, the rooms are cleaned daily. This hospital wasn't and I'm not sure why. Therefore, my mother would often clean the room while she remained with my dad. As far as records are concerned, there is a level of deceit that is being practiced here. After my father died, in accordance to law, copies of the records are to be handed over to the next of kin, spouse, etc. For more than 2 years Trident has refused to hand over any info stating the records now have to be filed with a judge. This leads one to suspect there were issues that they don't want the us to know about. Overall, my two prolonged experiences at this hospital were less than stellar when compared to, well any other hospital. Doctors tread over each other's test results, they aren't quick to release records of a patients stay, the upkeep both outside and inside the hospital isn't a high priority and a family's desires aren't always considered. If one is to have a choice, I would advise continue looking however in the unfortunate situation should arise and this hospital is where you end up, make sure you have informed loved ones taking charge on your behalf. While I don't believe the doctor and staff are incompetent, they don't inspire enthusiasm.

In the last two years, my oldest son broke a wrist and had to come in for a concussion protocol (two separate incidents!), he needed some stomach issues checked out, and last night my youngest son had to come in for a broken arm. Dr. Klein and Dr. Howard, Nurse Chloe, and a few other folks who I didn't catch their names were all awesome last night. Despite being a bit short handed, my son was seen extremely fast and received outstanding treatment. I truly appreciate that Dr. Klein took the extra effort to consult with MUSC, it was a bad break, and it turned out that transferring him there was the right move, they needed to do a pretty intense amount of work to get his arm right. Each time I've been to Summerville Medical Center, I felt things went well, paperwork was minimal, and wait was short. While I never want to come here again, I'm sure I will, and I'm grateful and appreciative to the hardworking team who always manage to get my kids right. J.Ja

He's never been sick Since he was 9 He's a 20yo virgin That builds computers and programs them Dr G was very helpful kind and considerate. He also asked me all right questions like what did my he would not eat anything else afterwards and he got sick. he told me his head was hurting and his stomach. I felt comfortable about this hospital until I was sent to (Dr. Mei) in ICU who was very NOT concerned I had to call the hospital advocate to let them know I'm not getting any status updates on my child. The advocate reach out to me and let me know that he spoke with the hospital and someone will be letting me know what's going on with my son in the told me that he reached out to the hospital and they should be contacting me about what's going on with my son I was contacted and I also was told that my son had (PCP ANGEL DUST) in his system. My child was with me 24/7 we have video footage leaving our home in Georgia that has cameras it shows my son packing up the vehicle healthy and happy. he drove us to Charleston from Orangeburg, where I got something to eat when arriving to Charleston my son said he was hungry so he pulled up to Taco Bell off Ashley phosphate 7373 Northwoods Blvd my son ordered three bean burritos and Dr Pepper my son is also a DoorDasher He did only 4 dashes and he started to say my stomach and my head is hurting. I figured he just didn't wanna work dashing I also had an appointment at 11 o'clock to view a place off of Ashley phosphate and Dorchester Road so I told him it's fine. We stopped at Captain D's on Ashley phosphate only I had food There My son was sick and told me he did not want to eat again. We made it to the appointment at 11:01 the man who was showing the place asked was my son. OK I told him he told me he doesn't feel well. A friend' of mines saw my son . She said what's wrong with him you need to take him to the ER. He doesn't look well. I told her he's just some water and some ginger ale. He needs to go lay down. He said his stomach hurt and he has a very bad headache when I finally got my son to the ER it was after a friend says he looks as if he took something. I told her that's impossible. Isreal got sick after eating and has been laying down because his head and his stomach hurt it was after the third person said he has something in his system. She asked has he taken something. I told her that's impossible. my son does not do drugs I know that he tried CBD and he was with me his mom all day he packed the car. He drove the car. I did not drive until he sat down to eat his burritos in the back seat of the car. when taking him to this hospital the only doctor that made me feel like you weren't judging my was Dr. Graham a.k.a. Dr. G the emergency section because upon arriving to ICU and I tried to explain to him who my child was since we are not from here and I also wanted to see how my child walked to our vehicle put all our suitcases in the car. He was wearing the same clothes that he is right now he's been in the car with his mother the whole time and he only ate three burritos and he started acting crazy like 2 to 3 hours later. I felt like they all were judging my son I also felt cornered when I followed security, and the police to ICU where my son was in room 3 and watch security and the police go through my son's wallet to find a small bag of CBD I had to let them know I was in the room so I said (is my son stable). Everyone looked back police an security as well as the nurse to say yes, and it was protocol to search my sons clothes cause smell like mj and now they have to throw it away. I didnt care. I was only concerned about my child's health as the nurse should have instead of calling for the police and security. should be concerned on why was his sodium dangerously low levels and his potassium DR G told Me this They also took my child's blood so they can see what was going on with him telling him how I felt concerned I guess when 2 doctors 3 CNA's the manager, the security have to be in the room. Dr Mei also gave my child Ativan Telling me it was necessary because he was acting psychotic. There's a lot of problems with this situation, but I've already handled it by calling detective DHEC and police support. I did not like how he assumed my son did drugs or his CBD would have been laced if he would listen to the patient the patient mom would have been trying to work with calling the police so I can get a report from the because my son had been poisoned

According to my health insurance company, MUSC has not taken any action to resolve the issue. Fraudulent billing. Some healthcare facilities here clearly just push patients through and you barely get 5 minutes of the doctor's time. You won't get that at Carnes Crossroads Primary Care, or any MUSC facility for that matter. Dr. Bigelow was highly recommended to us. He has very good bedside manner and I appreciate that he actually takes the time to listen to what is going on. Plus the MUSC MyChart app is very useful for tracking test results and for communicating with your healthcare team. The only problem that I have is that everyone else in the area must be going here too because it's near impossible to get a same day appointment. I was told if you are sick you can almost always get an appointment same or next day, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. For example, my son has a possible infection and called 8am Monday morning to schedule an appointment and the earliest they could see him was Wednesday at 4pm. So it's kind of a catch 22: you'll great health care here but only if they have the time to see you. Even with that, I highly recommend going here.

My family's experience during pregnancy care and delivery here was deeply mixed. There were…read moreindividual caregivers who were exceptional, but the overall system and process left us disappointed and, frankly, shaken. During high-risk screenings, we raised specific concerns about potential complications. Rather than feeling heard and evaluated in a focused way, the process felt standardized and procedural. We were given strong reassurance that certain conditions were not present, only to discover immediately after birth that one of those exact conditions was, in fact, present. Communication during follow-up screenings was also confusing. Important findings were shared casually and without context. We were moved through additional monitoring without clear explanation of what was being evaluated, what the risks were, or why certain decisions were being made. The experience felt checklist-driven rather than patient-centered. After delivery, the lack of coordination and condition-specific knowledge became more concerning. We received confident assurances about feeding and care approaches that later proved unrealistic given our child's medical needs. Some staff were clearly trying their best, but others spoke with certainty about issues they did not fully understand. Our newborn was handled and examined at times without meaningful explanation or discussion. For a family navigating unexpected medical complexity, that lack of clarity adds unnecessary stress. There were also smaller but telling process issues. For example, the hospital seemed unprepared to accommodate a vegetarian diet. Food orders were repeatedly incorrect despite clear communication about dietary preferences. While this may seem minor compared to medical care, it reflects broader coordination and communication gaps that were noticeable throughout our stay. That said, I want to clearly recognize the caregivers who made a meaningful difference. Emma, Lauren, Melisa, Susana, Suzi, Emily, Holly, Riley, and Jenn were compassionate, patient, and professional during an incredibly vulnerable time for our family. They treated us with dignity, listened to our concerns, and approached our baby with gentleness and care. Their empathy and steadiness did not go unnoticed. Kerstin, the occupational therapist who worked with us on feeding challenges, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, calm, and deeply invested in helping us navigate a complex situation. She listened carefully, adjusted her approach thoughtfully, and demonstrated humility and genuine curiosity. That mindset made a profound difference in our experience and reflects what patient-centered care should look like. What ultimately left a lasting impression was not a lack of technology or medical capability, but what felt like a systemic process issue. Too often, the experience felt driven by routine protocols rather than individualized listening and critical thinking. When hospitals rely heavily on standardized workflows without tailoring them to patient concerns, families can feel unheard and underserved. There are clearly compassionate professionals working here, and several of them had a very positive impact on us. However, the broader communication and coordination gaps significantly affected our trust. I hope this feedback is received constructively and used to improve transparency, individualized care, and condition-specific preparedness for future families navigating high-risk pregnancies and unexpected diagnoses.
