I was really excited to try this place, because it's been years since I last had Colombian food. Somewhat hidden in a strip mall near Colonial 18 movie theater, this restaurant makes a convenient place to get dinner if you have a movie to catch. The walls are filled with Colombian art and there are plenty of bicycles on display, so you'll have plenty to look at. The vibe is very casual, though the prices are a little higher than expected. Entrees were around $15-23 each. That said, there's plenty of food on the plates. I wasn't crazy about my mini bendeja with chicken - the rice was undercooked, the egg was overcooked, and the chicken was really bland. The bright spots were the beans - absolutely delicious! and the tostones that came with my wife's fried red snapper. They were probably the best tostones either of us has ever had. The service was friendly and quick, and there's a bakery shelf full of goodies to try as well as a small grocery. All told, if someone wanted to go I'd be down, but otherwise I probably won't rush back. I'd definitely order differently. read more

I have been to Trigo's several times now for lunch. I go on the day they have their chicken soup special. It is a large bowl of their rich, creamy chicken soup, served with a side of rice, avocado, fried plantains, and condiments of cream, green chilis, and capers. It also has a small side salad. When they bring your soup, you take the rice and put it in your soup, then decide how spicy you want it with the green chilis, add the cream and the capers for saltiness. So good!! I always leave completely stuffed because the soup is so filling! It is delicious and I highly recommend. There is also many baked breads and I especially like the one that is slightly sweet with a cheese filling. So good! This place is super casual, and in a strip mall, not fancy. The place itself is pretty cool with its bakery and decor, very Colombian. The staff seemed a bit distracted but were overall pretty nice. The food, I feel like I've had better. I got the Mini Bandeja Paisa and it was just ok. Now, I have not tried all their dishes so I can't speak for all of them, but this dish is not something I would come back for. The food was not even Ok! But and this is a Big But! As soon as we came in the one lady short blonde(Fat) with a Nose ring was trying to sit us by the bathroom in the back when plenty of tables were available. When we requested to have one by the window she stated not to move the Chairs or to scud the table because there was a big table behind us and people may come for it, we still moved the table back a bit to avoid sitting on top of the other customers sitting next to us and obviously Nobody ever came to sit on the big tablet and that same lady just gave us a mean look with an attitude by the way!! Once we sat down and ask the same lady to wipe down the table she stated it had just been clean. That's when I pointed out to her that the table had water just sitting in the middle with cup rings she just walk away and sent another young lady.....Obviously the table was never clean. Once we got past that it seem that the attitude was contagious in the staff that day. We ordered Empanadas and never came the MilkShakes where Waterdown (No Taste ) even the one we order with milk in it. Over all Will never come back!! Native of Gwinnett county for the past 35 years I've only come here 2-3 times since it has been opened.. Most recent visit this week was ahhhh ok generally because of food and cleanliness of place was great but no so with service and forced tip of 20% for a party of 4 which they consider a large party.. 20% tip equaled to nearly $15.00 for a ticket subtotal of $74.50... I must say server greeted us friendly took our drink order promptly and very polite throughout time we where there.. Later checked in on us if needed anything which we didn't.. Total time server spent taking our order and checking in on us 1-2 times was around 2-3 minutes max to be force to pay $15 tip. A party of 4 is not considered a large party, typical large parties are 6, 8+, hmmm ok I give it minimum 5 but 4 and 20% force tip on top of high food prices. I believe this tipping thing is getting out of hand. Starbucks asks for tip for service they should provide to customers regardless since we are purchasing their products, Panda Express asks for donations, McDonald's ask for donations, even the car wash guy who takes your card and runs it through machine asks for tip.. geesh. If we just start not holding back it will cause places to start lowering prices because a 20% tip can be the tipping point of not coming back especially for a place that considers a party of 4 to be large and force 20% tip from patrons...at least this is IMO not looking forward to returning... A friend of mine recommended I checkout this spot in Lawrenceville and it did not disappoint! We live in East Cobb and there aren't any good colombian restaurants in this area. There's really not good Latin American restaurants here. I was highly disappointed by las delicias de la abuela the last time I went and haven't gone in 2 years. We drove 1.5 hours and would do it again. I highly recommend the food and service here. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. We paid around $51 for 3 mangos en leche and our 2 big meals. I was craving some Colombian food while I was in the area I decided to come here. BIG MISTAKE!! The food here is most definitely NOT AUTHENTIC whatsoever. This place is an embarrassment and nothing more than a let down and a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I ordered pandebonos and highly regretted getting them after my first bite. They were ROCK HARD and had no cheese. To make matters worse, they tasted far from a pandebono. You can taste the leche condensada that they used to substitute ingredients in the recipe. If you have ever had a real Colombian pandebono then you would know that 1. The texture is soft, fluffy and cheesy. 2. They are not supposed to be so dry to the point where they crumble in your hand like a saltine cracker. And lastly, they are supposed to taste buttery, cheesy and rich in milk. It is very evident how much they are skimping on ingredients and don't care for the quality of food they produce. Again, this is an embarrassment for them to even sell this to the public let alone claim to be Colombian. Just because the owners are Colombian does not mean they know how to cook authentic delicious Colombian food. In addition to the pandebonos, unfortunately I also wasted my money on what they call empanadas which was more like masa de nadas. They claim to have chicken empanadas but the only thing they had in them was mushy bland corn flour and a few fibers of chicken. AGAIN THIS IS a disgrace and 100% NOT COLOMBIAN NOR AUTHENTIC. If you're craving Colombian food you're better off going to Abuelas in pleasant hill, los recuerdos Atlanta, casa vieja or even la casona because this establishment is a joke and not worth your money. read more

The food was good which was the only reason why I went there in the first place. From the second I stepped foot in the restaurant, the service I got was horrible. The waiter that greeted me and my family was rude and told us that we couldn't scoot the table because if not it would be too crowded, it was actually the other way around. One of my friends who I created into a yelper-monster from Marietta came all the way to Lawrenceville for the Grand Opening of Twisted Doughnuts & Café. While in the area, we wanted to have a Yelp adventure and try something new. He is Ecuadorian and we don't have Ecuadorian food, but I knew his face would light up at the mention of a Columbian place. After naming several other places, he was set on Columbian so he, I, and my cousin ended up at Trigos! Looking at the short menu, I could tell they probably feature their "Trigos Columbian" dish with the rib meat, cornbread?, plantain, chorizo sausage, carne asada (beef), egg, avocado, rice, and black beans. My cousin and I shared and the serving size is HUGE! I would highly recommend sharing it with two (maybe even 3) people. I liked most of it, but my favorite part was the carne asada and chorizo sausage. I think if that's all the meal came with I would be happy. The plantain and cornbread stuff tasted a little overcooked. The service was good and luckily we had my Ecuadorian friend speak Spanish for us, because there was definitely a language barrier lol. Traditional Columbian food is known to have lots of plantains, rice, corn, soups, empanadas, and "Bandeja paisa" which translates to platter from the region of Paisa. The dish that we got, the trigos Columbian, seems to be a variation of that traditional dish. I was looking at their menu and apparently they have really good $7 lunch specials so I'd be interested to try this place again on a random weekday at lunch time. Trigos Columbian stands out pretty well in an empty parking lot. It's right behind the Chipotle off Duluth Hwy and technically in the same plaza as Starbucks and Hooters, just on the other side closer to the Gold's Gym. Interestingly this little corner is like Little Latin America since they have Pollo Tropical reminiscent of the latin food in Miami, Papi's which is Cuban food, and this place all in a sort of triangle geographically. read more

Food is tasty. The atmosphere is very casual. I find that the proteins are usually pounded paper thin. So the grilled chicken is a super thin slice. Staff needs to work on their customer service skills. Called during lunchtime to place an order for pick up and the guy who answered hung up on me for no reason. I called back to place the order because we were hungry and craving Colombian and this place is nearby. The food is OK - as a Colombian myself I can tell you that this is not the best Colombian food in town. Their plátano maduro is anything BUT maduro (sweet/ripe). That day we received hard and mostly burnt plátanos. The potato salad that their lunch special comes with is very good but that's not a Colombian side. Our waitress is very knowledgeable of the menu items and super friendly. Awful experience and extremely rude employees. Came in and ordered the "chicken soup" to go. Once I received the soup I told the server there was no meat in my soup only broth and plantains and he told me that the "chicken soup" only comes with chicken if you get a large portion, which I was unaware of because he did not mention so when I put my order in. I asked if he could instead give me a refund and take the soup back because I did not want to pay $7 for broth. He walked away for about 20 min and finally came back with another lady to tell me how they would not refund my money and I should have known it wouldn't come with chicken because it's common sense if I order a small!!!! I'm sorry but I would think the only common sense would be to get chicken in my soup if I ordered a CHICKEN SOUP!!! They were extremely rude and disrespectful and after all this I paid $12 for soup and a soda and they never gave me the refund or my soup back and told me I can call the manager tomorrow because supposedly they didn't have one in today. read more

Great place to go for lunch!! We arrived around 1:15pm and the place was packed. Lots of native Latinos, which as a Caribbean female I take as a good sign because you'd never see a bunch of natives if the food isn't up to par. Even with all the people, the service was quick, friendly and very welcoming. In and out within my hour lunch break = happy customer. We ordered the lunch special of the day. For $7.99 each you get a large bowl of sancocho, white rice, a very well seasoned and flavorful piece of steak, potato salad and fried plantain. The food wasn't piping hot and came out fast, but I had no inkling of it being something that wasn't prepared fresh. Honestly, out of everything on the plate, the only thing that probably was cooked upon order is the steak. Soup probably sits in a large soup pot, rice in a rice cooker and plantain fried a few pieces at a time. The only thing that I'd change... I wish their tres leches was made fresh in house. But it wasn't bad, not the greatest and not something that I'd run back to order. Everything was tasty and this was a second visit, it did not disappoint either time. The plate is fairly large and you may have a little left over depending on how hungry you are or diet conscious. I didn't order it this time, but their fresh juice is delicious too & made to order. Why does this to place have 3.5 stars? This is for sure a 5 star. Tasty food, very generous servings, and reasonable prices. Got the grilled steak plate and immediately knew it was too much food. After putting half of my meal in a togo box, I still feel so full I can barely move. On the way out, I spotted a guava cake. Asked the price..$4.23. I thought we were mis-communicating. Found this place on yelp while searching for chicharron nearby. After discovering this place I can honestly say I have a love/hate relationship and the hate part is simply bc I hate how much I enjoy the food lol. It's so damn good! Rice was mushy, steak was burnt, sweet plantains were like cardboard , and to top, we were 5 and were charged 20% gratuity as a large group, which by the way was not deserved. A Guatemalan friend told us about this place. It's unfortunately not visible from the street, tucked in a building behind a Chipotle. We didn't see any non-Hispanic Americans eating here during our lunch so it seems to still be a hidden secret. They have a killer daily lunch special for $6.99 that could feed a horse. The portion size is huge. I went on a Thursday and got the daily special which consisted of salad, vegetable soup, rice, fried plantains and choice of chicken or minced meat. I went with the chicken and the boy wanted the minced meat but they were out so they let him substitute it for steak at no additional charge! The vegetable soup was DELICIOUS and HUGE. It easily could have been an entree. Tasted like the best darn chicken noodle soup minus any chicken, yet you didn't miss it at all. Perfect combination of flavors with squash, potatoes, carrots, corn and peas. The salad was standard ice berg mix. No salad dressing was offered. Rice was very flavorful and seemed to have been enhanced with butter. Now, the absolute best part was the chicken. Holy moly the sauce was phenomenal and the chicken was so tender. I easily ate the entire chicken thigh with a fork. Unfortunately, the boy's steak was not as satisfying. It was a dry, flavorless unknown slice of meat. I easily won the entree war! The atmosphere was very cozy and bright. They decorated it with random Columbian nick knacks. They are also part bakery so an assortment of baked goods were available. I was so tempted to get a slice of Quatro Leche cake but had to stop myself. The gluttony was for real. Service was quick and to the point. She came back and checked on us once and was very nice. Language was a little bit of a barrier but nothing some pointing and hand gestures couldn't fix. The lady that answers was so arrogant to tell me "it's on the page, don't you have it?" Well there must be a reason I'm calling to get the address. True enough, I was heading to Chipotle for lunch, which you can see pretty easily from the street, but on a whim, I decided to give Trigos a try, because in the strip mall full of, well, nothing, their lot was full! Customer service is a big deal to me, so I was really happy that when I walked in, I was greeted, shown a menu (to go order) and pointed right to their Friday special, among other tasty dishes with full explanation of what things were. Friday's deal was the Sancocho soup (cilantro based soup with potato and plantain chunks), potato salad, grilled steak, rice and maduras all for 7 bucks! I added on a side order of tostones ($2.50), but still keeping my total under $10...kinda insane when you see the amount of food. Service was pretty quick, and I really don't think I waited 10 minutes from order to getting my food...maybe because I lost track of time checking out the display of desserts, breads, empanadas and other snacks they make fresh daily. I'm not a huge fan of cilantro, but I really enjoyed the soup (which wasn't overpowered by the cilantro...but can also fill you up by itself). I ended up splitting my food up over lunch and dinner, which wasn't very hard to do at all If you're looking for Cuban coffee, like I was, well, it's a Colombian restaurant. Their coffee isn't as strong, and is more like a typical cup you'd find anywhere. There's plenty of space in the deceptively small restaurant, with multiple tables, and like I said earlier, the parking situation is pretty good, considering there aren't many stores around. Last night we had the pleasure of meeting a fellow patron who took the time to explain all the different dishes and provided her recommendations. We get pastries / bakery items each time. Keep in mind that not all bakery items are made in-house so be sure to ask if you are looking for something home cooked. Unfortunately, their location is nestled in a shopping mall not completely visible from the road. Take the time to find this place. You will not be disappointed. A tip for the restaurant: There is nothing bad with your service but I do recommend you go out of the way to make your patrons feel special, especially your non-Columbian ones. Can't say I've visited a Colombian restaurant so can't really compare it to others of that category, but I will speak to the normal restaurant items. The place was decorated with art and other items in a Colombian theme. There was plenty of seating but the place was not empty. Visited for lunch and decided to go with the lunch special which for Thursday was meat choice (chicken or minced meat), rice, soup, salad, and fried plantains. The soup had plenty of vegetables and was a large bowl of it....nearly a meal in itself. I added the provided hot sauce to the soup and the minced meat. Everything was flavorful and for the price made a great lunch. Finished things off with a large coffee which was not great but not bad. I'll definitely return and try some other good food. read more
