I refused to schedule the procedure until I knew what it would cost me out of pocket. The staff just kept cluelessly saying "well...it's usually covered..." Not good enough folks. After several back and forth phone calls trying to establish prices one person finally told me they wouldn't tell me the price until after I chose a date because procedures are different prices on different days. I asked if I could choose the most affordable day for me and they said no. So it wasn't "probably going to be completely covered", huh? So I have to hope I randomly choose a day I can afford? I chose to not do the procedure with them. This isn't the first time UC has been a headache about procedures. They once CANCELLED a surgery of mine at the last minute (less than 24 hours before) because some fool in the office misread paperwork and thought I was uninsured. I was insured, everything was approved, they just screwed it up because they had no idea what they're doing. People at my work rearranged vacations so I could fit in this surgery and UC got me in so much trouble. It was a diagnostic surgery that they delayed. So my diagnosis was delayed. Then they lost all of the records of the surgery. The photos, notes, and reason for my diagnosis, all "missing". They still had the bill though, so for years I had to pay for a surgery that supposedly didn't happen with supposedly no results. So, they delayed my diagnosis and severely delayed my treatment. I have over a dozen more examples. Don't bother with UC, go anywhere else.

I was in this hospital for several days because of a severe kidney infection, and overall my care…read morewas excellent. I had gone to my normal doctor's office and a doctor there recommended I go to the hospital to get an ultrasound to see if I had kidney stones. The ER wait was very very long, but I was told almost immediately that a severe emergency was going on next door to me so I have no complaints about that, it was out of their control. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly sweet and patient... except for the two women that gave me my CAT scan. When I first came in one of them wouldn't stop asking me why I hadn't gotten a pregnancy test yet (I never turned one down, the other nurses I spoke to had just agreed with me it was unnecessary) and kept telling me there was no way I could know for a fact I wasn't pregnant if I was sexually active. She kept saying she wasn't going to do the CAT scan until she knew I wasn't pregnant and wouldn't let up until I finally told her I was in a lesbian relationship, to which both of them got noticeably uncomfortable and annoyed. After I got my CAT scan the one that was talking to me saw I had an IUD and demanded to know why I had it. When I said "it's birth control?" she looked at me like I had tricked her, I corrected "it's for maintaining my periods" and she ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. All of this was happening while I had a SEVERE KIDNEY INFECTION and was in some of the worst pain I've experienced in my life. A healthcare professional of all people should know that birth control isn't just for preventing pregnancy. I cannot stress enough that every other person I interacted with was a delight and made me feel cared for, but the unprofessionalism and quite frankly *homophobia* I was treated with by those two women was inexcusable. I didn't get their names, sadly. However! I did get the names of all my nurses throughout my stay -- Abigail, Antonia, and Tamala in unit C2 as well as Leslie, Kim, Tiffany, and Diane in unit C5 were all absolute angels to me and they all deserve raises. Those seven women are the only reason this isn't a one-star review.

I'm happy to see from reviews in other sources that patients have been happy with Dr. Lam…read more Unfortunately my husband's experience last year was not good hence he did not return to Dr. Lam for his colonoscopy this year. Dr. Lam removed a lot of polyps from my husband's colon and after surgery he told me he had cauterized the bleeding. After being released from the hospital, my husband experienced severe bleeding and had to return to Christ hospital through the ER. He lost over 2 pints of blood. Dr. Lam had to go back the next day and use blood clotting powder to stop the bleeding. It took nearly 2 months for my husband to recover from the effects of such severe blood loss. Dr. Lam recommended my husband have a bowel resection. The surgeon Dr. Lam sent us to basically said "are you kidding me!!" as such a severe procedure was definitely not called for. This year my husband went back to his previous GI doctor, who had changed practices which is why he saw Dr Lam last year. Indeed there was only one polyp. Clearly a bowel resection was not needed.

My care was originally given by Dr. Lam's PA (Physician's Assistant). The determination was that I…read morehad SIBO. I was treated with 2 rounds of antibiotics (Xifaxin) for 4 weeks with no success. I was then encouraged to get an endoscopy by Dr Lam. Findings were nil. Dr. Lam then prescribed Karafate for a month (4x dailey). I later found there was no reason I should have taken the Karafate. When I asked what the next step would be I was told that they were going to refer me to a dietician (which never happened) and I was suggested to begin a FODmap diet. I was told to look it up and if I needed help to get back to them. I was referred to a GI specialist and PA at UC Health who concluded that I did have SIBO but it was being driven by a burdoned colon (Basically constipation). I was prescribed Miralax once dailey and three months later there were no symptoms. It has been 5 months now and I still take the Miralax but I feel better than I have in years. Nothing I have written is hyperbole and are just stated facts. I am sure Dr. Lam is a fine surgeon but the care I received was not successful for my condition. Lowell Philpot
