We received an email from…read moreKara a few weeks before our stay letting us know that there would be constructions, which was fine. A week before our stay, we received another email letting us know that she had ants. Yuck. After that email, we called to request a cancellation in which Kara hung up on us. Hm. We contacted the third-party that we booked our reservation to help us cancel, but were informed that only Kara could cancel and she was refusing to do so. After contacting her again and trying to cancel, she hung up on us again and told us were were silly to be worrying about ants. We couldn't believe that we still had to stay here, but didn't want to forfeit our $450 for the weekend and felt obliged to stay there. When we showed up to check in, the door was locked. Strange, but OK since it's a small place. After knocking for a few minutes, we called Kara several times to no answer. We then texted her, and nothing. After waiting for almost an hour in the rain, we decided to call our credit card company to dispute the charge, then booked at another hotel in the same area. Thankfully, our credit card company refunded the charge but warning to other travelers- find somewhere else!

Felt very at home here, the only negative is the people upstairs were very loud and it sounded like they were moving furniture all night. Hard to relax with so much noise. Everything else was perfect. I would stay here again.

This definitely is a venue that will hold great potential in the future…read more It feels like they are just getting their feet wet. And using it as an Airbnb. I do think the price is a little steep for what you get. They are definitely close to perfection and being able to charge a premium if they just invested a little more money into the bathroom and finishing touches I think they would have a five-star venue that allows them weddings and overnight stays for travelers. That said, It is not a place for small children. The banister spacing upstairs was extremely wide and the TV was just leaning on top of the dresser downstairs. There are multiple things that just look like punch list items and hopefully in the future will be addressed. I will say that our stay was fair although when asked for the password to log on to the TV because there is no antenna we received no response to our request, and happy we did not run out of toilet paper LOL as it was left with a quarter roll. We were interested in saying the rest of the venue as a possible location for an event for us later in the year. And it did seem a little difficult to arrange this. The caretakers of the property are blunt and to the point. And seem to be new hires. The facility is still under construction in many locations but beautiful and rustic. The only complaint would seem to be the downstairs basement is where the bathroom is located and the space seems very misused as there's an extremely large kitchenette that almost seems out of place and both are VERY! subpar for the venue. The bathroom is very cramped and has a 1970s plastic shower stall. If they were to just move one wall they would have a wonderful five star bathroom . They could put a Soaker tub and walk in shower that would pale in comparison to any Resort and they could easily double the rental price.!!! The upstairs also seems to be on the cusp of perfection is extremely large but feels unutilized to its potential. A bathroom Suite could easily be added upstairs as it is highly inconvenient walking down two flights of stairs to a basement in the middle of the night. None of this was Express before renting the location. Definitely looking forward to seeing the progression of this beautiful historic building and site but wish our stay was better

The cabin comes fully stocked with pretty much everything you need to bring other than yourself. Being right on the lake provides such a serene and peaceful setting it is hard not to get lost in the beauty and relax with those around you. The overall style and decorating of the cabin was very warm and comfortable! It was also not to hard to find. Much credit to Klare and her hospitality and service on providing a flexible and enjoyable stay.

The pond is overstocked and the fish are starving but she is worried about people catching fish. She threatens to have kids do barn duty if they mess with her animals. Not so calm and serene when the owner is obsessed with your every move on her property when you rent the cabin. I stayed at this cabin and it was infested with mice and had to leave a night early. I left Klare a note telling her we had been run out by the mice and she never called to apologize or clear things up. She has horrible customer service skills and doesn't belong running a business. She even communicated to a friend of mine that I had extra guests the night I left and didn't want her coming over to the cabin. That is very unprofessional of her to speak lies about customers who were ran off by her mice infestation. What a bad experience. I am an adult and don't need to be babysat by other adults. I would give this place no stars because the owner ruins the atmosphere,

Every now and then in your camping travels you will make reservations somewhere just because it's…read morein a convenient location on your route and end up stumbling upon a true gem. That's what happened to us with Happy Acres! Originally we were scheduled to stay for one night but at the last minute had to change to four and the staff was wonderful about accommodating our request. Check in was a breeze with confirmation emails, informative texts leading up to our arrival and when we finally got there our registration packet was waiting for us by the office door. Our site (#71) was super easy to get to and was a pull through which was mostly level for our 33' trailer. I spoke with two staff members; one over the phone when I had to change my reservation (Matt?) and another (Sidney?) when I stopped by their very cute camp store to buy a couple of shirts and they were both extremely pleasant and polite. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there is also a pool and dog park on site. The only negative we found was the very loud, ever present road noise. Happy Acres is right alongside highway 69 which makes it super convenient to access but noisy. Luckily we were running out AC or fans every night which mostly drowned it out. We work remotely from our camper and both our Verizon and TMobile signals were very strong. However TMobile was the speed test winner regularly showing d/l speeds of 200+ mbps. We come to the Midwest every year or two and Happy Acres will definitely be on our list of campgrounds to revisit. We heard that they are expanding the # of campsites towards the back of their property and if they are full hookup we will be sure to try to book one of those. Thanks Happy Acres!!!
