    Calamari

Triola's has a unique look outside and inside when compared to most Italian restaurants. The modern farmhouse trend is used all throughout, and it makes the place feel bright and a little more open than it might considering the small footprint. Parking lot is small and the front dining room is also quite small. The service started off a little strangely the day we swung by as I believe the owner greeted us at the door in shorts and t shirt. We were quickly sat and our server was plenty helpful throughout the meal. Couldn't tell if they Italian accent was authentic, but I enjoyed it anyways! Generally, the food is standard Italian American, calamari was crispy and maybe a tad over, got a couple pieces that got too chewy. Marinara sauce that came with it was terrific. Garlic bread is done for free and better at most other restaurants so it feels wrong having to ask for this, and it being this boring. Chicken TRIOLA, was great! I tend to order the menu item that bares the name of the business if it's my first time visiting and this did not disappoint. It came with a generous portion of stuffed chicken that stayed moist, partly due to a nice sauce ladled on top. Roasted vegetables got the right color and texture and complimented the chicken in the way you'd expect. My friends with me had some goods and gripes about their entrees, and it left me feeling mixed. I think there's a lot to like here, but for me I have some other Italian places I might visit again before this one.

A small Italian spot on the north side of town (north of downtown) on Main. We've driven past this spot without realizing that it was a restaurant; it's a standalone restaurant with limited parking in the front. The interior has limited seating and had a strong chemical cleaner smell. We came with some friends for lunch on a weekday. We ordered the fried calamari and beef carpaccio for appetizers. The calamari was very crispy and fried well but slightly dry. The marinara sauce with was good; 4/5. The beef carpaccio was also seasoned well and tasted as you would expect it to be, and the beef was tender; 4/5. Both appetizers were fairly pricey at $24 and $25 respectively. For the main entree, I got the pasta bolognese; for a $42 plate of pasta, the expectations were high. Unfortunately the first thing was that the sauce was very sweet and not savory at all. The meats in the dish were tender but the overly sweet tomato based sauce made the entire dish super sweet and odd tasting for a pasta dish; 2/5. Overall, the quality of the food seems decent, but at its cost point, the food we got doesn't seem above and beyond other Italian options in the same cost bracket.

Food 5/5!: Everything we tried was very delicious and savory. My family tried all different dishes and they all loved it. Service 5/5: From entrance to leaving all the staff was super welcoming and nice. Our waiter made sure we had a great experience. Ambiance 5/5: the restaurant used to be a house and they turned it into a really nice restaurant. We were sat on the second floor and the lighting was very a luminous not to bright on the eyes.

Why 5 stars? Because it was not only a delicious experience, but a fun one. --- --- --- On the way back to Montgomery from a birthday party near Nasa, we stopped into Triola for lunch. The photos and reviews made it a pretty easy decision as we were browsing different options. We were quickly introduced to the owner/chef, who has a big personality and a big voice that can easily be heard throughout the small first floor dining room. I asked him what the chef's special was and he named duck and lamb as a part of it, but I mentioned that I don't like lamb because it's gamey and that I would just go with the seafood lasagna. He insisted that his lamb was not gamey and that he would bring me a small sample to show me. He was indeed correct. I feel like it was basically 99% not gamey and while I enjoyed it, I would have just preferred a steak. But I will give the man this: it was the best lamb I've ever tried. But then he got a little greedy :) I said that my least favorite food on Earth is goat cheese because of the gaminess. He said that goat cheese isn't gamey, to which I said, ruined his credibility haha. But he couldn't help himself and brought out some goat cheese too. I am not a picky eater but I find goat cheese repulsive, but I'll always try anything. As I first ate it, I felt like it was maybe 5-10% gamey but manageable compared to all other goat cheese. After he walked away, it began to linger a bit more to the point where I didn't enjoy it, but I didn't want to be a debbie downer. It was still much better than anything I've tried before, but I don't ever need to have it again. That said, the thought to let me try it was appreciated. As for the actual food we ordered: Garlic Bread: 4-stars. Standard, but delicious. Seafood Lasagna: 5-stars. $48 but it's delicious and has huge chunks of seafood. I loved every bite. Pasta SALSICCIE: 4-stars. My wife and I agreed that we liked this, but didn't love it. High quality ingredients but we probably would have tried something else, in hindsight. Spaghetti and Meatballs: 3-stars for me, but 5-stars for my wife. I thought the sauce was pretty watery and didn't love the flavor, but my wife loved it. This was really just for our son, but we heavily sampled it ourselves. Then for dessert, we were heavily debating between the Cassata Cake and the Banana Bread Pudding. Keeping the theme of generosity alive, they brought us both even though we choose the latter. Banana Bread Pudding: 4-stars. I liked it, but it was extremely heavy and hard to eat more than a few bites. Cassata Cake: 5-stars. A total home run. We both absolutely loved it. 6 items, 25-stars = 4.16 average, but the service, the hospitality and the interaction with the owner was so awesome that there's no way I could give anything other than 5 stars here.

My family and I decided to come to this place as it had great reviews and it did meet up to those reviews. I will start off by saying the staff was amazing. And the chef came by to greet us which I thought was great. The place is a bit small but cute. Parking is also limited but there's an unpaved lot you can park at next door. The prices are on the higher end but overall the food was good.

We had a nice dinner at Triola's Kitchen. It's a cozy spot inside a converted house, filled with family photos that give it a warm, personal vibe. Frank Triola himself was there, chatting with guests, which was a fun touch! Service was excellent--we were well taken care of, and they were very attentive. That said, for just the two of us, we felt like they were really encouraging us to order more appetizers than we needed. Portions are huge, so pace yourself! For appetizers, we had the Tomatoes Caprese, which had good ingredients, but was a little too saucy for my taste. As for pastas, both were super rich and salty at the table, but honestly, they were much better the next day as leftovers! Overall, it's clear there's a lot of love in this restaurant, and I'd come back to try other dishes--especially the seafood lasagna!

My first fancy dining experience for Valentine's Day, couldn't have been more pleased, off the bat greeted by a complementary valet service this was so convenient especially because of rain. After seated, Immediately greeted by management and staff. it felt so respectful and almost like family. atmosphere was so nice, from lighting to decorating, it was very cute. The food came so quickly & was absolutely amazing, I honestly could only compare it to Olive Garden lol... but wow immediate difference to my lower income taste buds love this place !

Triola's Kitchen is full of heart, history, and hospitality. Housed in a converted home, this Italian spot feels like you're dining at a family gathering. Photos of Frank Triola's family line the walls, celebrating generations of Italian culinary tradition in Houston since the 1940s. Frank himself was in the dining room, warmly chatting with guests, which added a personal touch that you don't see often anymore. Service was fantastic--our server was attentive, and our waters were never empty. However, as a table of two, we did feel a bit of a push toward ordering more appetizers than necessary. The portion sizes here are very generous, and just one entree could easily feed two people, so keep that in mind when ordering. [APPETIZERS & SALAD] +Tomatoes Caprese ($16) - Sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella from Houston Dairymaids, and basil. I usually love a good Caprese salad, but this one was drenched in sauce, which overpowered the fresh ingredients underneath. Still, the quality of the mozzarella and tomatoes was solid. - 3.5/5 [PASTA] +Pasta Bolognese ($42) - Frank's Bolognese sauce with Osso Bucco, beef tenderloin, Italian sausage, meatballs, and brisket, all tossed with fresh pasta. In the restaurant, this was overwhelmingly rich with a strange sweetness and heavy saltiness that had me reaching for water after every bite. However, as leftovers, the flavors mellowed out beautifully. You could really appreciate the depth of the sauce and the care put into it. - 3/5 in-restaurant, 4.5/5 as leftovers +Meg's Penne Con Salsiccie ($28) - Penne pasta with spicy Italian sausage, suga rosa, and mozzarella. Between the two pastas, I preferred this one at first taste. It had a nice spice and flavor, but again, very rich and salty while dining in. As leftovers, it held up well. - 3.5/5 in-restaurant, 4/5 as leftovers Overall, I had high hopes for Triola's Kitchen, and while there were some hits and a few misses, I can see the passion behind the food. I'm curious to come back and try the seafood lasagna next time--it seems like a place where a few menu explorations might unlock some gems.

Where do I event start? Chef Frank is amazing! I saw him helping park cars which they have complimentary valet. I also saw him helping the host and showing people to their seats. He also came by and explained the menu and specials. We decided to have the chef special and let him impress us. He did not disappoint us! The amount of food that came to the table was insane. On top of that everything we had was delicious. There wasn't one item I wouldn't order again. Lets see if I can remember everything I had, it started with the Calamari that served with their homemade marinara sauce. The Shrimp Azzarelli which are colossal Shrimp with Roma tomatoes, basil, garlic, radicchio, and arugula sautéed in white wine and lemon served with grilled garlic toast point. The Papa's Mushrooms that are mushroom caps filled with veal, breadcrumbs, topped with fontina cheese and finished with lemon-butter basil sauce. Next was the Tomatoes Stella salad which was amazing! Its sliced beef steak tomatoes on a bed of radicchio and arugula. Topped with hearts of palm, artichokes hearts and jumbo crab. Finished with balsamic vinaigrette, gorgonzola cheese dressing and American Black Sturgeon Caviar. We also had two different types of crab fingers which are not even offered on the menu! My favorite item out of everything were the Lamb Chops! These are Chef Frank's Award-Winning New Zealand rack of lamb, grilled and topped with blueberry, jalapeno and mint demi reduction! Lets not forget about the Wagyu Steaks that came out of nowhere followed by the Pappardelle Bolognese that's served with Osso Bucco sauce, beef tenderloin, Italian sausage, meatballs, and Italian brisket tossed with fresh rigatoni pasta. Then we closed it out with the dessert sampler. This was every dessert available! We had a slice of the carrot cake, cassata cake, chocolate cake, italian cheesecake, key lime pie and the tiramisu. I'm not sure how I was able to walk out by the end of this! Im looking forward to go back but next time lets just order one dish.

I wasn't too impressed the first time, and this visit certainly confirmed my initial thoughts. For La Lucha's Happy Hour, you get a choice between 2 types of oysters ($1.50 each). These were great - do this on a weekday before 6pm and you should be able to grab a table without a reservation. Barely even after we started eating the oysters, the waitress was already asking if we wanted to order more, instead of allowing us to just enjoy our food without interruptions. The menus they gave at our table were inconsistent and had different menu items. I had to ask for clarification if the redfish was on the menu since it wasn't on two of the three menus given to us. So, quality control was a miss. Rest of the menu... is limited. Everything was so greasy, from the fried chicken, the redfish, and shrimp tacos. * Red fish with pecans - 6/10. The fish did not taste like it was seasoned with salt. It was well cooked, not dry at all, but it lacked any sort of seasoning aside from the butter and pecans on top. * Shrimp Tacos - 4/10. I think I prefer Taco Bell over this one. The shell was greasy, not crisp (felt like it was stale), and I was confused with the combination of American Cheese and shrimp. They also added hot sauce or spicy salsa in the tacos - so a warning if you can't handle spice (not mentioned on the menu). * Half Fried Chicken - 5/10. The chicken was moist. Been here once before and it was quite dry, so I'm glad this was cooked well. You get 2 thighs, a wing, and a drumstick (4pc). Again, there was a lack of any seasoning on the chicken itself & the exterior. Sadly, the sauce that we picked was not the best either - oyster mayo. It would've been nice to try the others, but the half order came with one sauce. The seasonal jam that was available was the peach jam. It went well with the biscuits (half order comes with 2 biscuits, any extra is $1.50). For my people who get cold in restaurants, I would recommend bringing a light jacket since they turn the A/C up.

Luckily, it was somewhat on the way back so we decided to give it a try. Rolling through San Leon made us question if we were going to the right place. It didn't feel lively and definitely was not giving 'Coastal Chic', like how Pier 6 has been described. Upon arrival, it was a totally different vibe and 'Coastal Chic' is a fitting description for the place. We were seated right away and they offered a high chair for our little one. We started out with fresh oysters and a flight of margaritas. If you're an oyster fan, it's worth getting the oysters. Super fresh. The flight presentation was so beautiful. My husband and I had fun trying the different margaritas. The blue one was coconut flavored. It reminded me of a piña colada but with tequila. We were surprised that we liked this one. The pink one was watermelon flavored. We could taste the smokiness of the mezcal in it. This was a nice, not sweet drink. The white one was their classic take on margarita. We thought this one was too sweet for our taste buds. The orange one was mango and I think chamoy. This reminded me of the Mexican candy Lucas - sweet and tangy. All drinks were finished. LOL Now to the main dishes. My husband had the Mahi Mahi and said the fish was fresh and had a good amount of seasoning on it. The risotto and mushroom was a solid pairing with it. He cleared the dish. I had the tomato salad and clam chowder. Their tomato salad was so good. It was light and refreshing. I love that there were dill and capers too. Their clam chowder is definitely different compared to others I've had. The soup was more like a light creamy broth. The clam is served whole. Oyster crackers were also in it vs served on the side. Even though it was different, I didn't mind it and killed everything. Service was as expected for the time of day. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would make the trip to the San Leon area again. A few notes: Pier 6 does have a kids menu and there's changing table in the restroom, along with some diapers. We were happy to see the items that we really enjoyed was back on the menu! *Only fried shrimp $24.99: 5/5 comes with coleslaw, stellar jalapeño hush puppies which is the best I've had!, and fries. The shrimp is fresh and good size! Nothing beats a texas gulf shrimp! *Tide to fried $28.99- 4/5 comes with fried tx gulf shrimp, fried oysters, and fried red snapper, Cole slaw, hush puppies, and fries. The fired oysters were so good!!!! Like wow and well seasoned! So fresh! The shrimp is perfect! Red snapper super disappointed because it was super fishy. I do not recommend the fried red snapper. Next time definitely get the only shrimp or only oysters combo and pass on the tide to fried which included the fried snapper. *3 dozen oysters - $14.99 per dozen: 5/5 the oysters in March a plump and juicy! So much better than Nov (early season) oysters. The oysters Unfortunately had shells from shucking the oysters so when eating them I bite into shell and thought I almost cracked a tooth. Quality of the oysters great 5/5. The shucking and handle of the oysters 1/5. No guest should eat shuck raw oysters bite on shell. That's a law suit waiting to happen and I hope this establishment does better because we love their freshness of their oysters. *Ocean water $6 happy hour : 5/5 reminds me of sonic ocean water except spiked lol *Watermelon slush $6 happy hour: 1/5 it was so strong and I felt the smokiness was too much. Love the ocean water more because it hides the alcohol and easy to drink. Service was meh. The place was packed at 5pm on a Friday. Not sure why our entrees and drinks came out before our appetizers which I felt was inappropriate. We had to flag down our waiter a few times for items. He did check in with us once after we got our food and took our first bites. Do I recommend Pier 6? Based on this recent visit I am glad I didn't write them off and yes. The food was great minus the oyster cleanliness. Definitely a favorite place for oysters and the best fried shrimp/oyster plate the area and Galveston even. Only negative is the blasting of the music. It's so loud we can not hear our conversation and will induce you a guarantee headache. It does not matter if you sit inside or outside.. it's the same noise level which is concert loud. The videos killer outside and so beautiful but I feel the blaring of music takes away from the charm of this place. If you are into rowdy loud places this is for you. Other than that, maybe distract one self by ordering happy hour drinks so it helps with the intense loud music.

Per my friend, this place has the best biscuits she has ever eaten in her life. I was skeptical…read morebefore trying them...but no more! Hands down the best biscuits around. The add ons of the various butters and toppings are just the icing on the cake (biscuit?). The restaurant also just has a great vibe and the service was friendly and helpful. We also were always able to ask for recs and got some good ones, especially regarding happy hour prices and items. The shrimp, oysters, fried chicken, mac and cheese and drinks were amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection and complemented each other. And to top it all off, the lemon bread pudding was an absolute delight! I definitely want to go back to try all the things I did not have room to try this time!

What sets the tone in my opinion is the host/hostess unfortunately she didn't set a good one. When…read morewe entered into the restaurant she didn't greet us & her body language made it seem like we were bothering her. I don't require much and I'm easy going so for her to treat us that way is crazy, but you do you. Just thank the hostess for a minus 1 star. Once seated we were greeted by Gigi, she was the total opposite from the hostess. She was kind and energetic, not the most attentive but she was hella busy so I can't blame her for it. I decided to order a handful of items for my friend and I to try. * Sweet tea- delicious southern style tea, wish it could've been a tad sweeter. 4/5 * Not my mama's biscuit- hot, fresh, soft, fluffy, pillowy. The strawberry jam was delicious and homemade. I wasn't a fan of their bacon jam & the honey butter was good. 4.4/5 * Everything gumbo- not the best gumbo I've had but if you brought that to my house for a potluck I'll eat it. Shrimp was seasoned to perfection, sausage okay. 3/5 * Catfish & Fried chicken combo with collard greens- The chicken was fried hard and seasoned nicely. I know for sure they brine that chicken overnight. The meat itself wasn't bland at all. Batter was crispy & had lots of flavor. I would come back just for their chicken. Catfish was also fantastic with a nice cornmeal batter. Fish could've been fried a little harder. Collard greens were vinegary & has some kick to it. They also had bones in the greens which adds more flavor but remember to take them out if you still want your teeth. 4/5 * Blackened catfish with green beans- definitely not my favorite tbh. The tomato-garlic beurre blanc sauce was not it. If you look at the plate all you see is oil. Which made the dish extremely oily. The fish itself was definitely blackened but barely any seasoning. Green beans were also alright & needed to be cooked longer. Once again as I stated in my other reviews, I can't stand when restaurant doesn't cut the ends of the green beans, please cut em. 2.5/5 * H-town hot sandwich with Mac & Cheese- good quality bread, chicken was fried hard with a Viet-Cajun sauce smothered all around it. Mac and cheese was firm just how I like it but taste wise it was just mid. 3.5/5 * Cast Iron peach crumble- a little too sweet for my liking, but I do like that they added salt to balance out the sweetness. The pecans adds texture to this dessert but I can do without it. 4/5. Overall, the food was a 4, Gigi was fantastic and the other staff I've interacted were great, but yall thank the hostess once again for that minus one. Even though the food was only a 4/5, if she was fake nice to us I would've given this place a 5. Sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it but she didn't even hide the fact that she didn't want us there. Will I come back? Heck yeah, the fried chicken is legit good. By the way, there are a whole bunch of reviews combining with google/yelp that the hostess is rude. She's hurting the business, she just lucked out that I'm nice enough not to give less than 3 stars based on her customer service.
