    Maduritos. The last two

My friends and I saw an advertisement about their Friday paella special, so to celebrate my birthday, they treated me here. The ambiance and atmosphere was very high-scaled. Great concept. Our waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable of each dish. We order drinks and appetizers, they were good and served in very cute containers. Service was a bit slow... our drinks and appetizers were served very close to the main dish: PAELLA. About the paella, it was ok. It wasn't authentic, but just ok. (We had better). As I mentioned, we went to celebrate my birthday and very often other restaurants, comparable to the high standards of this one, would provide a complementary dessert ( a minimized version of the menu one); what they gave me was, was.... How can I put it, unacceptable, an insult? I think they shouldn't have bothered. Is was a plate, yes just a plate with a happy birthday message ( i think with chocolate frosting) and half a strawberry with a candle on it. See images. Not sure if I will go back. Btw, heads up: valet parking only.

We first tried this restaurant years ago during Houston Restaurant Week, and it quickly became one of our go-to brunch apots. Before we moved away, we would visit a few times a year, especially for their soufflés. Now that we're back in town, it felt natural to return. My professor and his wife are also fans, so we decided to meet here for brunch and to celebrate my husband's birthday! They currently offer a fairly affordable brunch menu: French Frugal Feast. We ordered the pork carnitas dish, which was unfortunately very dry and lacked flavor. The only standout on my plate was the potatoes. The ceviche was just okay. We ended the meal with a soufflé, while my professor opted for a cheesecake. Service, however, was excellent. Our server was very attentive, refilling water, tea, and Diet Coke every 10 minutes or so. That said, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Sunday around noon. I remember it being packed during weekend brunch in the past. Of course, a lot has changed since the pandemic, and the cold, rainy weather that day may have played a role. Overall, while the service and ambience remain good, the food quality--unfortunately have declined significantly compared to our previous visits. Free parking is a plus.

The restaurant is lovely, inside is beautiful, outdoor seating on the patio was perfect for the weather yesterday, the staff was great. Server was great as well. Not sure if I expected too much or if my expectations were off . So keep that in mind. The food was not by any means bad but it was not exceptional. The escargot was beautiful and delicious, empanadas were great, we had the $39 special 2 items ; app and entree or entree and dessert Duck Steak Creme brûlée

Great service, great atmosphere, great drinks, and great good! I called within a week's time to reserve a small gathering for my birthday and they made the experience so memorable.

My friends and I visited Maison Pucha Bistro for Houston Restaurant Week, and while we had high hopes, the experience turned out to be hit-or-miss. We started with the Cucumber & Watermelon Gazpacho, Shrimp Ceviche, and Wagyu Beef Empanadas--and this was by far the best part of the meal. The gazpacho and ceviche were refreshing, well-balanced, and flavorful. The beef empanadas were rich, savory, and packed with flavor. We were genuinely excited for what was to come. Unfortunately, the main courses didn't live up to the appetizers. -Eggs Benedict: A classic dish done... a bit too plainly. It wasn't bad, but the "seasonal vegetables" on the plate felt like an afterthought--more garnish than actual side. -Trout Almondine: The fish itself lacked seasoning and felt underwhelming overall. -Chicken & Waffle: One of the most disappointing dishes. The waffle was forgettable and the chicken was dry, with a presentation that felt flat. -Duck Confit à L'Orange: This had potential, but sadly the duck leg was overcooked and ended up dry. As for the dessert we tried the Crêpe à L'Orange, Chocolate Moelleux, and Vanilla Crème Caramel. The desserts were passable, but not memorable. The Chocolate Moelleux, which we expected to be a lava cake, had no molten center--which was a letdown. The service was generally good, but the host stand was disorganized. Even though we had a reservation and arrived early, we weren't seated until five minutes after our reserved time with no communication as to why we weren't being seated. The ambiance had a charming French bistro vibe, we even noticed French music playing outside. Inside, the music was likely the same, but difficult to hear over the general noise--not overwhelming, but enough to lose the mood. Lastly, 2 out of 3 bathroom stalls were out of order, which felt like a detail that shouldn't be overlooked in a nice restaurant. Overall, this place has potential, especially based on the appetizers--but the entrées and desserts need refinement to match the ambiance and concept. I'd consider returning if the menu is reworked, but for now, it feels more style than substance.

    Steak Frites
    Matthew J.

Deviled eggs were served with small chunks of crispy bread with smudges of mustard and balsamic vinegar. The bread itself was topped with some cream cheese and capers, and I really liked dipping one chunk of bread in the mustard, then dipping another chunk in balsamic, etc. The steak frites (the steak was a bit unsalted, but I asked for a salt shaker to remedy this) was served with some buttery sauce and ketchup. The fries are just the right amount of crispy, and the steak is juicy. And I was able to get both the appetizer and the entree for $29. Considering that the steak frites by itself was listed as $36, this is an amazing deal. This is a great place to stop especially during a weekday afternoon. At the time I was seated, I was literally the only customer in the building. You probably don't need to reserve at this time, but weekends may be a different story.

Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche (HRW 2025 lunch)

Great flavors! I came here to try the HRW lunch with my friends on a weekday. Parking: Some other reviews mentioned valet parking, but no one else was out front to help us park. The lot in the back was full and we spent a lot of time trying to park, but eventually found some street parking a few blocks away. I do think the streets near the restaurant also allow parking during the daytime which we didn't realize. Service: The wait for our order to be taken and dishes to come out took a long time but otherwise no complaints. Ambiance: A bit too loud for my liking and everyone was clustered in one area. Food (HRW $25 lunch): - shrimp ceviche appetizer - delicious, nothing too unique, I wish bigger portion (2.5 shrimps, only 3 plantain chips) - duck confit a l'orange entree - duck was tender and skin perfectly crispy, good size of leg, the sauce was perfectly sweet and savory - Trout almondine entree - decent size, enjoyed the refreshing flavors, firm meat - steak frites (+18) - this was not worth it, tiny portion, the outer part of the steak too well done, and I'm not a fan of precut steak because it cools too fast - lemon pie - best dessert we had, lightweight and not too sweet - chocolate lava cake - very very decadent, only for dark chocolate lovers - vanilla flan - had a lovely citrus flavor (not described in the menu)

We came here a year ago for Restaurant Week and it was so good that we decided to come back this year. It did not disappoint! We have a group of eight people, and they sat in the beautiful private dining room, which was a nice surprise! I ordered their shrimp ceviche, classic eggs Benedict and crepes a l'orange. Everything was perfect! They have some really great mimosa options so I chose the Guava Mimosa which I had not seen anywhere else. Our server was fantastic, he checked in on us multiple times without being pushy and had a great attitude! It is important to note that it you have a group larger than 5 people, they will not split the bill but this is clearly listed on their menu. Needless to say, I will be back!

We dropped in for dinner on Wednesday. I was craving French food and had been wanting to give it a try. We arrived at 7:30 PM and was seated after a few minutes of waiting, without reservations. I love the decor, warm earth tones with crystal chandeliers throughout. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Houston Restaurant Week menu priced at $39 so decided to order from that set. We ordered: * cocktail oysters - very heavily dressed with shrimp and octopus, almost thought they forgot to include the oyster until I got to the bottom of the shell. Felt this combination of dressing and oyster didn't go well together. I would have liked it separately, like as a ceviche and oysters on a half shell. * escargots - well presented, very good. The bread was too chewy, didn't go well with this dish. * steak frites - tastes great with the bearnaise sauce. Steak was smaller than preference but cooked to the right temperature at medium rare. Love the French fries, crispy. * short ribs - very tender and so delicious with the wine demi-glace. All the accompaniments were paired well. * chocolate molleaux - didn't know what to expect and happy it was like a lava cake. Served warm and not too sweet, one of my favorite desserts that I've had lately. * vanilla crème caramel - tastes less sweet than most flan I have had but still very good. The bar is pretty small, not sure I would attempt to come here for happy hour since it's only accommodated at the bar. Valet is $8 and the area lacks parking otherwise. So unless you take a rideshare, your only option is to valet as I could not spot any other free self-parking lot. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other food from the menu.

Another challenging review. Most of the food was good, but the service and penny pinching were not. Went with a friend for Houston Restaurants Week 2024 on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. Made a reservation, but that was not really necessary. The restaurant was empty. Just a couple of groups besides ours. We started with the baked mushroom timbale. Thought that it would be warm as it was baked, but it was cold. Quite cold. Like maybe it had been sitting around for a while. Took a few bites and that was it. We both left most of it on our plate. Our waiter asked if we liked it, but then he didn't even ask for our full response. He did bring us what we thought was a complimentary basket of bread. It was not. For the main course, the trout almondine was a classic French dish that was executed well. Half of an Idaho trout with seasonal vegetables and a caper almond lemon butter sauce. Delicious. My friend asked for hot sauce which was brought to the table after we finished this course. For dessert, the crepes a l'orange were very good. My friend got the soufflé which, you guessed it, had an upcharge of $9. The perfect finish to a very odd meal. Should have read the reviews and would have been less surprised at the lack of service and the unexpected upcharges. Had to keep asking for water. Was charged for the bread, extra for the dessert (which was on the menu) but was also charged extra for a small amount of hot sauce that came after we basically finished our meal. Did the waiter think that we wanted hot sauce with our soufflé?? A few hours later, my stomach was quite upset. I think that it was the mushroom timbale that we had tried express to the waiter seemed to be a bit off that day. And even odder, he followed us to our parked car to ask us more questions after we left the restaurant. Where was he during the meal? Since I wanted to respond to his questions, I did call back and spoke to a hostess a few days later to voice my concerns. Left a message with hostess. The manager never called me back. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful. Parking is available behind the restaurant, but was not clearly marked. The music did not match the ambiance of a French restaurant, but definitely fit the vibe of an unusual afternoon for lunch.

Went to Maison Pucha Bistro on a Saturday as we wanted raw oysters at a good price. Problem occurred as they had no gulf coast oysters so we got 2 dozen of the oysters in stock which they were fine but they are smaller. We sat in the bar area so that we could get HH prices. Our waiter was a bit pushy and was trying hard to get us to up purchase items. Overall it's a nice place to go get a few drinks and some oysters. Not thrilled with other items on HH menu.

So I came in Valentine's Day so my assessment may not be the most accurate. But I had a really great time with food that was very good. Crab fingers was my favorite with a beurreblanc type sauce that absolutely was impressive. So creamy and yet light. Flavorful and elegant. Escargot was light and buttery. Hint of garlic and herbs enough to make you go for another. No lingering snail flavor . Great job. Steak and frites and bouillabaisse was great. Steak was soft and cooked perfectly. Fries weren't the meatiest fries but crunchy. Bouillabase was light and refreshing with loads of seafoood. I loved the sear on the scallops, shrimp, etc. it was definitely needed with a light based soup. Great dinner. Great service.

We adored our HRW brunch here. We stopped by in August to make avail of their delicious brunch menu while also supporting the Houston Food Bank! Our waiter was kind and attentive, and explained some of his favorites on the menu. We ordered similarly and were glad we did! We decided on the shrimp ceviche and beef empanadas (which cost extra) to start off. The ceviche was light, tangy and tasty! I enjoyed the pairing with the plantain chips. The beef empanadas were one of the highlights of our morning. The flakiness of the crust was perfect, and the meat inside was so well seasoned! Next, we opted for the croque madame and chicken & waffle. The croque madame was also a winner - the egg pairing with the sandwich was so delicious, and the textures were amazing! We also enjoyed the side salad. I had ordered the chicken & waffle to get something on the sweet side and was not as enthused by this one. It was a bit bland in presentation, especially compared to the croque madame. I only wish they could have had a few more sweet offerings for entrees as part of the HRW menu. Our desserts were lovely - we both opted for the chocolate moelleux as we could not bear sharing! It's a good thing we did that, as they were so rich and chocolatey that we promptly polished them off. I loved how beautiful the restaurant was, with such pleasant ambient lighting. It is certainly popular - we were glad we made a reservation as it filled up quickly. Our server was also wonderful. I would love to come back and try their dinner menu!

With so many restaurants to try in Houston, you really don't need to go back to any restaurant more…read morethan once. Nancy's Hustle is the exception and is on my regular rotation. The perfect spot to meet up with friends, or for a cozy date night with a loved one. Staff always goes above and beyond to make your experience special. I have never felt rushed, and the flow of the dinner is expertly curated by the servers. Strongly recommend making reservations for this hotspot. Walk-in is tough unless you arrive at opening. My go to recommendation: the dumplings. And we can't forget the Nancy Cakes.

Is this the most overrated restaurant in Houston?…read more After being on my "To Try" list for an unacceptable amount of time, I finally made my way over to Nancy's Hustle. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar with no reservation. I arrived about 30 minutes into open and there was already a wait list. I suggest getting there early or making a reservation if you're not a solo diner. The interior is nice and intimate, with low lighting that doesn't work well for photos but definitely for a cozy dinner. The set up and music reminded me a little bit of 93 Til due to the decor. I started with the duck dumplings and the Nancy cakes. I wasn't expecting it but they offer half orders which is great for a solo diner who wants to try multiple things. Both items were delicious. The dumplings had a nice savory sauce with some texture from the peanuts. These were great but probably my bottom of the list which is saying something. I would only say this because they reminded me a lot of the hot oil wontons from duck and bao so at that price point, you might as well get more. The Nancy cakes were pillowy and savory and made a great vessel for honey butter and roe. I even used a bit to dunk into the leftover dumpling sauce. I suggest eating these as soon as they hit your table. I was trying to savor my bites but the cakes benefit a lot from being nice and hot. It's not the most ground breaking dish in the world but it's done well and I would definitely call it a must order. I could have eating a full order of it alone. My main dishes is where my mind was blown. I went with the roast chicken and half order of the gem lettuce salad and fries. This might be the best roast chicken I've ever had in Houston. Chicken can be a hit or a miss because sometimes, there just isn't much flavor. This was absolutely not the case here. The chicken was juicy and seasoned to the core. It even heated up well as left overs without being dry. The chili sauce on the bottom was flavor intensified and as I swiped my chicken through the pools of sauce, I thought to myself "overrated where?!". The gem salad caught me by surprise. I'm not one to stay away from a salad at a restaurant because they typically do them better than you can make at home . Nancy's Hustle solidified this opinion. The salad was wonderfully briney and savory. The lettuce was crisp and covered in the herby shallot dressing that grabbed my taste buds. Topped with anchovies and pancetta for a nice salty touch. So so good. The fries were the perfect side, crisp and not too potatoey (yes this is a thing). I traded in the aoli for some ketchup because that's just my thing. I concluded this wonderful dining experience with a dessert. Buttermilk ice cream with cornflakes, black berries and honey butter cookie. This dessert was a lesson in balance. Every component was present , sweet, salty, crunchy, cool. Each bite had something new to offer and combined into a perfectly executed dessert. As a cocktail, I tried their tropical drink. I don't remember what it was called but I know I could have drank about 7 of those. This was a great dining experience. I think when things get popular, sometimes we feel the need to be contrarians with our experiences. That wasn't the case for me. Nancy's Hustle has earned its popularity and I'll definitely be back

Thankfully I turned on notifications if there was a cancellation and I got one for 9:30pm for Friday a few days before! I definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, this place gets packed. When we arrived we waited like 10 or so minutes to be seated which was a bit long imo but it's all good. The restaurant is decorated nicely and dimmed the lights for dinner. They were also playing some great music so waiting wasn't bad. :) When we were seated our server, Abigail gave us some sparkling wine to start with. She was great and explained the reverse happy hour and answered our questions. For drinks, I got the Lambrusco Spritz and it was delicious and strong. My friend got the cosmo and she enjoyed it as well. We did come for the happy hour so we had to get a couple pizzas! My friend and I ordered the Cacio e Pepe pizza and I ordered the pepperoni pizza. Drinks: I did a So Fresh So Clean because I'm predictable and I loved it the first time. I also had a Negroni and it was really good. Butter Burgers: It normally comes with two, but Chris was nice and brought out a 3rd burger so that we could each have one. I enjoyed the French onion flavor in the beef, but the burger was too buttery for my taste. Crispy Potatoes - Very good with great flavor. Mushroom Empanada - I didn't try any, but my friends enjoyed them. Hanger Steak - It took 40 minutes for the steak to be brought out and unfortunately, one steak was overcooked while the other was undercooked. I tried a bite of the overcooked steak and the flavor was there. The steak was tender enough for my preference. Market Fish - Red Snapper. It was a larger portion, but the flavor wasn't as good as the first time. Additionally, my fish came out about 10 minutes before the steak and it got cold because I was waiting on the steak to be brought out. 3/6/26-Michelin Man? More like Michelin...maaaaaaan…read more.. In good Mel and the Doctor fashion, a rough week equates to "let's go have a great night." We get dressed up and venture to Le Jardinier. While we were super excited and ready for a great Friday evening, we checked in with an unwelcoming hostess. Mind you, this is our first impression since we have never been to any of the locations. He asked the hostess if we would be seated close or after our reservation time (that would determine if we would have a drink at the bar), we received a condescending toned response of "you can have a seat and I will work on getting a status update on that." Duly noted. A few minutes later we were told we could go to the bar to only then be escorted to the table. So we will look past that "weirdness" of initial service and get ready for a stiff drink...the bartenders know what they are doing! Martinis were the name of the game and they were perfect. Just perfect. The prefixe and wine pairing was the game plan. But before the fun stuff, came the bread service. Bread was more than bread, it was warm savory pillows with the perfect butter. Made a crumbly mess while tearing up the bread basket, expected table crumbler service, after, nothing. For Michelin, we expected the fine dining cleaning in between each course. The service was odd, and the servers seemed cold. The kanpachi and the scallop of the prefixe were Michelin. Overall, we might give it another shot, maybe it was a bad day...but still grateful to get in last minute due to rodeo season. Let me know your experience!

We made reservations several days in advance and still were only able to get patio seats. The vibe of the place is so Houston. It's a really nice restaurant - inside is small and cozy, decorated beautifully. The patio only has 2 tables but it's elegant. And it looks out at the highway, billboards, downtown, and abandoned homeless encampments. During dinner, we had a bachelorette party bus park beside us and a couple shirtless guys come up from the bayou with fishing poles. But it works - that's Houston! Food itself was good, but not great. I'll give it 5/5 stars for originality - each dish was unlike anything I've had elsewhere. - ratatouille- 4/5 - it was interesting, and mostly loved that it was soaking in some delicious olive oil. - broth- 4/5 - a nice little spicy kick, but otherwise was just okay - Tuna sashimi - 5/5 - fish was fresh and tasty! Appreciated the crunch between the layers of tuna. - French cheese pancake - 4/5 - generally can't go wrong with bread and cheese. It's interesting, and I liked the green onions topping it. - Fried shrimp and shiso- 4/5 - didn't love the sauce this came with, but otherwise this almost tasted like a jalapeno popper with shrimp. - snapper - 3/5 - poached, and pretty bland. Came with a very fishy seaweed reduction on the side. - potatoes side - 2/5 - don't get these unless you're looking for just boiled potatoes. They're pretty flavorless. Overall, interesting food for a one time visit, but unlikely a place we'll return to.

After entering, you are immediately greeted like family in a relaxing environment but with top notch food. It was my friend's bday so we celebrated with complimentary bubbles which was a nice touch. We enjoyed a large portion of their limited/rotating menu that did not disappoint. The tuna was my favorite. 10/10. A very extensive, higher end wine list complemented the meal nicely. Definitely need reservations -- book as early as possible. Seating is very limited especially for larger parties. Parking --- street parking around the block. Wasn't too difficult. Definitely a must try!

The intimacy of the small converted Montrose house extends to the explosion of Spanish flavors. It's a small restaurant that is great for a date, but the 10 top bar is my choice for a great dinner. Starting with the Ibérico jamón, which is an amazing dish I think everyone should try. Salt cured pork leg that is aged for years and imported. I would say that it should definitely come with more of the tomato puree on the side. Overall 9.5/10. Bomba rice was special. It's cooked in cuttlefish ink giving it the distinctive coloring with octopus, mini lobster shrimp langostino and a crispy skin branzino. This was a real treat. Rice almost has a meaty beef broth flavoring with a hint of seafood brine. Branzino was cooked perfectly. No notes 9.8/10. Lamb chop was the best lamb chop I have had in Houston. That's it. 9.8/10. Duck breast was different, definitely worth a try. I don't know if I would order it again, but it's not as tender as I would have liked considering the thin slices. The quince reduction block thing really turns it up a notch, but overall left me wanting compared to the amazing standouts of the other dishes. 8.5/10. Gin and tonics are out of this world. You will not experience a better selection of them in this state. My favorite was the Ginger and lime, but I tried six of them. All great.
