OK this is very weird.....out of all the times I've stopped in here on my way to my bestie's house in Lancaster or on the way back to my Mom's house in NH to grab some of their tasty pizza I've never written a review?!?!?!?!? But I have one for the bakery that is connected to this joint. Hum.....unless someone deleted it which would be odd because all I have to say about this place is great things!! I first learned of this pizza joint about 30 yrs ago when I attended NECO for my nursing degree & one of my classmates suggested coming her for pizza. I feel that their prices are very reasonable. It doesn't take long for them to freshly cook up a few slices of pizza so while my slices are cooking I got into the bakery to view their stuff & end up buying some treats for myself, family & friends. ' Now there are a few Tripoli locations thru out MA but out of the other 2 I've been too this one is THE BEST!! It hasn't tasted the same @ the other locations. One is in Salisbury & I can't remember the other town I grabbed some from as it was a couple of years ago. If you want extra cheese & prefer "shredded mozzarella" make sure to specify that because one time I asked for extra cheese & the cook put round slices of mozzarella on my slices. I was already in my car & had driven off when I noticed this. It had never happened to me before so after that when I ask for extra cheese I specify the shredded. Their pizza sauce has a light sweet taste to it that I think makes the pizza taste the way that it does. I usually get extra cheese slices & extra cheese with pepperoni slices. They use to have a big plastic container in the corner on their counter where you can sit to eat your pizza that took donations of soda can tabs for Shriner's. I've been saving them for years for other friend's but that stopped due to one moving away & one passing away and its such a habit when I drink something with a tab on it I'm taking it off and saving it. I went in yesterday with a big zip lock baggie full of tabs to donate them & that jar wasn't on the counter!! Yikes!! So I asked the guy behind the pizza counter & he told me that they still take them but he didn't tell me the reason why they don't have the plastic container on the container for them anymore. Just be aware of their hours as I believe that they are closed on Monday's & they don't share the same store hours as the bakery. Also there are NO bathrooms in here & they don't serve drinks but there is a soda vending machine that you can buy drinks from. Also this place isn't good for big groups to dine in as their seating area isn't very big. You MUST stop by here & check them out!! read more

Tripoli Pizza and Bakery is clearly a neighborhood favorite. We stopped in for baked goods. Pizza on the left, baker on the right. The parking lot is a good size and if I remember correctly, the lot is locked up when the business is closed. The bakery has so much to offer. Fresh baked breads in the morning, pizza strips and other 'bread' foods. Cookies, lots of cakes, pastries of all sorts. Definitely find something you like. We visited during the holiday and there were so many holiday sweet treats. Trays and trays. I took home some cannoli, a sfogliatelle, and cookies. The cannoli were tasty and fresh. We enjoyed these. The sfogliatelle did not seem fresh - the pastry was hard and no longer flaky and the cream inside was dried out. Won't try that one again soon. Too bad really, I do like this pastry when fresh. The cookies were just OK for me. I do a lot of baking and these did not taste fresh made. I understand bakeries have a thin profit margin and you are always having to guess what will sell. No disrespect to the business. They offer a wide variety of cakes and sweets and I only tried a small sampling. I love these old neighborhood businesses that have been around 'forever'. We know people who stop here about once a month and rave about them. I'll try them again and keep my fingers crossed. read more

To those that say Tripoli is the worst pizza.....you are not from around here. Tripoli pizza id Beach Pizza! By the beach I mean Salisbury, Hampton, Seabrook. Again, if you are not from around here, you don't know what Beach Pizza is. I remember going to Tripoli very young, and remember the older ladies making the pizza. They put Parmesan cheese on it. The pizza came in the squares and round pizzas. Then times starting changing and the cheese changed too. I think they use cheddar now, at least it looks like it the way it melts and they eliminated the round pizzas. My Mom used to ask them if they had green pepper to put on the round pizza. They said "no, but if you want to bring one down, they would put it on the pizza". As far as other beach pizza establishments, there are Christie's and Beach Pizza. Both use Provolone for cheese and I am not crazy about Provolone. So I stick with Tripoli. No matter which way you slice it.... Tripoli pizza is the best beach pizza. Hands down. Really annoyed, I always get my cakes from here and have called the morning of plenty of times to see what they had for the day and this morning when I called the lady was rude and said she couldn't tell me I needed to come in. So when I went in I picked a cake and told her what I wanted on it and I went to tell her I want pink icing for writing and she already started in red. I said did you already start with red I wanted pink she said you need to call in ahead for that because We don't want to go out back if their customers, I've never heard of that and kind you there wasn't a single customer in there the entire time. Despite the fact that I live less than a quarter of a mile away and have been next door for pastries and bread a couple dozen times now, tonight was my first experience with Tripoli pizza. I am so conflicted as to how to review this because I both loved it and hated it. There are really only three things to talk about with a cheese pizza; you have dough, sauce, and finally cheese. Dough: this was the best part of this pizza. Oddly it tasted a little buttery, mostly at the beginning. Not sure what I was picking up on, but it was crispy and delicious. Sauce: the flavor was there. This would be the best sauce I've ever had except for one thing; it's TOO SWEET. I'm not sure if they add sugar or just use some magical high sugar tomatoes but good God was it ever sweet. I had to add some grated Romano at home to cut the sweet with some salt. The sugar level was enough to remove this from even my top ten favorite pizza sauces. And that's sad, because it's spiced just right, consistency is perfect, and even the amount they give you is spot on. But that sugar. Man. I can't get over it. Cheese: there isn't much of it. I guess that's ok, unless you are a super cheese fan (in which case they have extra cheese options). I didn't mind it. Or maybe I did. Perhaps that saltiness of more cheese would have helped with the sweetness. Seriously. I'm talking about the cheese, yet I am back to the sweetness of the sauce. Would I go back? No. Not if they use the same sauce. I can't get over it. We have four slices (half a box 8) left and I am not sure what to do with it. If I did have to go again I'd ask for pepperoni, and sausage, and maybe extra cheese. I'd need it to be able to cut the sweetness of the sauce. For those who like their pizza to taste like a dessert though, you'll be in love. My order was ready in about eight minutes, so that was a plus. For me, I'll have to go elsewhere for my pizza, which is quite the bummer because this place is so close to home. read more

First, how is it possible anyone gave this pizza a good review? Second, how is it possible this place is in business? Finally, how is it possible that Tripoli can actually sustain multiple locations? The pizza is disgusting. I never thought I'd see the day that I actually threw pizza in the trash, but Tripoli made that a reality. While it's quite common to put a bit of sugar in pizza sauce to cut down on the acidity, it needs to be countered with salt and spice. The sauce was so sugary that the pizza was inedible. What a terrible waste of money and a big disappointment on a Friday night when you really just want a slice of pizza. At first, I thought that *maybe* our experience was just a fluke until I saw some other reviews about the sweet sauce. How can people eat this? If you want food that sweet, have a donut. Just had Tripoli Pizza for my first time a few days ago at the Lawrence location. I can't say I ever had anything like it. I was disappointed at first when I got the pizza. The pizza was light on the cheese. My first taste, boy was I wrong. The cheese, sweet sauce, and crust blended perfectly together. I love Regina Pizza for its specific taste. Tripoli has a unique flavor of its own. I've eaten Regina Pizza and pizza from various establishments many times and never craved more after eating a pizza pie. I just finished left overs from Tripoli and I want more. So much so I am debating driving an hour to get more. It is uniquely excellent. I will be back! read more

And you not only didn't like it but you had something negative to say about every aspect of the pizza. Are you just trying to get a reaction from all the people who LOVE IT? Are you that bored with your life. The only thing I agree with as to what you said is that" You would never go back". And please let me help you with your confliction about it. It's great crust, it's unbelievably great tasting sauce and the exact right amount of cheese. And in case you haven't heard, they have been in business for 80 YEARS. That's 80 in case you don't get that either! And far as you having 10 other pizza's that are better. I must have been in a coma the last 50 years cause I haven't had one yet... If I wrote your review, I would be embarrassed. I hope there's a way they will let you delete it. Please check that out. Now as far as Tripoli Pizza. Um, It makes me taste it just saying the words. Don't listen to any review that isn't 5-star. If you're looking for toppings or different shape then really you just have no idea what is going on. I have so many great memories of growing up in Lawrence, but Tripoli's is number one (besides Bishops for lobster & Larry's Cedar Crest for clams of course)! My Aunt & I used to walk down the hill to church every Sunday and my reward was a slice to eat on the way home. It was always our little secret because as soon as I got home, Grandma and I would head back down the hill to get Italian cookies! I was born in Methuen, so have known Tripoli for 50+ years. It's located in what's left of the Lawrence I knew. They still have great pizza, can't remember if it's the same because that was almost 50 years ago. Good dough, piping hot, sauce is more orange than red. Real Lawrence, Mass pizza down the hill from the former Venerini Sisters Kindegarten. Wicked good, just the smell in the car is worth the half-hour drive over from Nashua. Only thing is they just have 2 tables to eat - but it's really supposed to be take out, so that doesn't affect my rating. THE BEST PIZZA. EVER. Their slices are delicious, with sweet sauce and cheese that melts in your mouth. It is seriously the best pizza place out there. Not expensive at all. Can get very crowded so if you want, order ahead on time then pick it up. Dough is handmade in front of you. Workers looked busy ( are always busy) but get the job done. You CAN sit down and eat there but with all the people coming in and out, it'll be quite awkward. Next door is the bakery. All baked good is handmade as well. They have many different desserts which are to die for. Their cannolis are excellent too. Definitely come here if you want to try great pizza. read more

I travel almost 600 miles when I come home to Boston and this is one of the first stops I make. And I come back at least twice during my visits. Yes the sauce is sweet but it's perfect. Get the extra cheese, it's worth it. I've never had the pepperoni or sausage, why mess with a perfect pizza?! I found out they can mail you frozen slices. Ok, so personally - I didn't like this pizza at all. It is as others have indicated - quite sweet. And the crust reminds me of pressed out dough from pop and crack can of homemade pizza dough. That is not to say others might not appreciate it. For someone who does like sweet sauces - give it a try. I will say the place has a lot of customers which lends well to high turnover and fresh hot slices. Their bakery is great. I guess there is a pizza style for everyone, but honestly this pizza is some of the worst pizza i've ever had. The dough has an odd artificial taste to it and is dry and sweet. The sauce is even sweeter. Basically tastes as though someone dumped sugar into both (maybe they do). The cheese was extremely sparce. Barely covered half of it and had no taste. I'm not too picky with pizza and will pretty much eat any type or style, but I find this pizza hard to eat. I've had better frozen and/or cafeteria pizza. Unfortunately a few people at work insist on getting this and the rest of us have to deal with. From what I see their bakery is very good. Not sure they should be making pizza though. read more
