I expected basic elementary school productions, but I was so surprised and impressed by how professional they were and by the performances of all the students. That experience led us to sign my eight-year-old grandson up for their summer production of James and the Giant Peach, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Kris Huston and her team truly focus on teaching the fundamentals of musical theater. The students aren't just learning their parts--they're learning real theater skills and what goes into putting on a quality production. I've watched my grandson grow and polish his skills through these three productions, while gaining confidence and, most importantly, having so much fun. You can see that same growth and training reflected in the wonderful performances of all the students. I look forward to watching him continue with Huston Performing Arts and seeing his skills and love for theater grow over the years. They didn't always start promptly and they were usually in tiny, hot rooms big enough for one small folding chair (plus instrument and standing student with teacher). We tried it out for a couple months and it was not for us. When canceling, they assured me it would be okay, but of course they continued to charge us the following months. I called, and again no return messages. I called again, spoke to someone and they said James would call me back, but not a word since two weeks ago. Not only did she help me with this, she also helped me tune my violin and, noticing the bridge was crooked, put it back in place. When I offered to pay, she said it was for free. He asked what I needed, and I explained that my acoustic guitar had a broken peg tuner. I already had the replacement part with me, so I handed it over. Instead of jumping straight into recommendations or upselling, he immediately tried to fix it on the spot. Once he confirmed it was repairable, he quickly cut the string, replaced the tuner, and got everything back in place. The whole process took less than 10 minutes! I live in Carson, so driving out to Lakewood and getting it fixed the same day was such a relief. This guitar isn't for professional use--it's for my daughter who's just starting to learn--so having it ready right away saved me a lot of time and hassle. He even tuned it by ear in seconds, which was really impressive. Overall, a smooth and pleasant experience.
