We ordered baklava with baklava ice cream and after another 15-20 minutes had to cancel because we had to leave. She took it off the bill. She didn't seem concerned and we didn't get an apology, much less an explanation. We had been looking forward to this all day. The food is excellent and this USED TO BE one of our favorite places. I think I enjoy Trojan Horse for its absolute charm. I'm going to miss their Kirkwood location, especially the giant door ! I was there Saturday as a last hurrah ! And sat up top for the first time ever. We order multiple appetizers, but the one that was the best was the cheesepa'rer. I'm going to have to start making that at home ! Food service ambiance Food was very good. It's always good! Of course I have to have the baklava dessert. And they have baklava ice cream. Stick with the pastry and forget the chocolate, go with the honey. There was five of us in you can only fit four at a table booth. Parties larger than four I have to go upstairs and they are a long steep stairs. The elder women in our group didn't want to have to climb the stairs. So they really accommodate us by putting us at the very back table and putting a chair out on the end of the table. Not very many there anyway. read more

Very rustic place; a view showing the roasting lamb ready to be sliced for your meal. Old, old building with a lot of nostalgic decor, fancy lad wood railing and walls, even the bar is like an old saloon and down to the creaking stairs as you go to the top level. We we warmly greeted and asked if we'd like a beverage - the crafted beer list was quite small with maybe 4 craft and rest were standard millet and bud beers. Server was nice and served or beers, we ordered an appetizer (Cheesepa'rer). I highly recommend this appetizer spinach, feta and cream cheese, not sure what else but very tasty and served with diced pita bread- awesome. We ordered gyro sandwich with beef and lamb and a chicken gyro. I had chicken and it was a nice big sandwich but I tasted my wife's regular gyro and liked it much better. This is a Mediterranean place but they have American standard menu as well. My only complaint was the heat registers looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. Great authentic Greek food 100% the gyro sandwich was excellent very tender blends of meat and the home cucumber sauce is a great blend. The service is great the waitress (Maggie) is very attentive to our needs and prompt with refills. The dining room has an old throw back wooden benches and tables are rustic and cozy. ITheatmosphere is nice. The downstairs has the feel of a nice local bar & grill withdark wood and appropriate lighting. Upstairs is brighter and more of a lunch place. Service was prompt, friendly and personable. Sodas are served in plastic cupswith "Trojan Horse" printed on them. The food arrived in good time p, was hot and plated well. Came here with a friend after not coming here in several years. Food was great, service was quick though being short staffed, and our server was amazing. I order a grilled tenderloin with fries. Experienced an average meal. Our party was equally divided between ordering cheeseburgers with fries, and gyros. The fries and gyros were not hot when served. Our group decided that salt and ketchup would help the fries, so we didn't comment to our waiter, who was quite busy. Those that had burgers said they were good. Very good service, but the food is just OK. Had two falafel gyros, side order of saganaki and fried mushrooms. The fried mushrooms had a huge coating of oil-soaking breading. They were about a $1 each. The saganaki was pretty good. The falafel patties seemed undercooked, and as the pita was pretty thick and also slightly underheated, it became a bit mushy. Flavors were OK. Prices are reasonable. It wasn't crowded on a Saturday evening, and again, the service was great. read more

I'm in town for Indiana University Parents' Weekend. My son had class then plans (as it was still only Friday at lunchtime) so we went to Trojan Horse for a bite to eat. As I mentioned in my last review, I was happy with my choice. I had a gyro sandwich which was authentic and delicious; not too big either. My sister-in-law is not a big Greek food fan (which I was unaware of because she is very nice and goes with the flow, so didn't deny me my restaurant choice). However, what I didn't know because I've never flipped the menu over, is that Trojan Horse also offers "American" cuisine as well as a kids' menu. So, my sis-in-law was able to get a veggie burger with what I like to call, "fixins." She may have had a beer there too, but since we walked 22,000 steps today, she had a beer in a couple of different places, and I was the designated driver for the after-seeing-my-son trip back to the AirBnB (so was not drinking), I just can't remember. I do know they have beer, though, because we saw the kegs and the list. They have wine too. Our server was extraordinary - very friendly and attentive despite how busy she was. Trojan Horse is also very, very reasonably priced. Nothing fancy, but you get a sit-down meal that is yummy and comforting. read more

While the sandwich itself isn't huge in terms of diameter, the lamb slices are plenty thick to get you the calories you need to go about your day. My only thing is I wish there was more of it for the price. Service was exceptional, got my order placed quickly and painlessly. The food came out hot and fast. It also seems like a nice place to sit, if you would like to eat in. I'm having a hard time with this review. The food was good, some great, some ok. However, the service was terrible. My party of four went in on a Sunday for lunch. Every table was full, but we only had to wait a minute before a table became available and they cleared it off quickly. We had an older waitress and she was very forgetful. She completely forgot what I had ordered and didn't bring out a side item for someone else and our food took about 45 minutes to arrive. She never came back to our table to ask if we needed anything, we always to track her down and then the simplest things like a water refill took 10 min. We ended up not ordering dessert because we didn't want to wait on it. The food however was pretty good. The little one ordered chicken fingers and they were seasoned well. The chicken on the chicken giannoulas was great! The dressing on the antipasto salad was amazing! We all loved that one! I thought the chicken gyro was just ok, I've had better. First time visiting The Trojan Horse. Quaint area on Kirkwood that has been a college staple for years with Indiana University just down the road. Parking is congested as it is all street side parking. The city has pay meters on the curb which takes credit card or you can use the Park Mobile app. We got there at 11:15 and was immediately seated. Our drinks were ordered quickly as was the food. For starters we got jalapeño straws. They were hand battered and very tasty. These were fresh which was a delight. My only disappointment was they were not spicy at all. When I get a jalapeño I expect a little heat and these had none. I got the Super Gyro. Full of lamb and beef. Very well seasoned. Lots of tomato's and onions with a very good zaziki sauce. The pita bread was very soft and tasty that accented the meat very well. The service was very good and friendly as well, so all in all not a bad meal. I'm going to give it 4 stars and will try again in the future. Not bad, but not quite a 5 star in opinion. read more

Good service, but just okay food. The Trojan Horse recently underwent a major renovation to fix the building's outside wall, but could use a bit of makeover inside as well. It seems more like a bar than a restaurant: dimly lit first floor, brighter upstairs, but dated in decor and definitely loud. Sure, it's a bar, but I could easily follow everyone's conversation if I tried to. (I didn't.) The signs direct you to seat yourself. The row of booths along the left side of the first floor were occupied, so I went upstairs where the first booths are "restaurant", while beyond the fish tank is the bar for 21+. There are some larger tables up there and it definitely is brighter. I was greeted and service was friendly (several staff members talked to me during my lunch.) And the wait times for food was pretty normal. You could easily eat here during a lunch hour. The small Greek salad I started with was good. It's served untossed, so you get a chance to mix what you like and separate out anything you might not. I liked. The olives were pitted which is also a plus for me. I would have probably given 4 stars but the gyro I ordered just wasn't my favorite. I've dined at a lot of Mediterranean and Greek restaurants now, and I definitely prefer ones that use a beef and lamb combo for the gyro meat. I didn't ask, but this gyro had a more pronounced lamb flavor than any of the places I've really liked. It may be okay for you, but I have a love/hate relationship with lamb and goat products. When I like it, I really like it. But when I don't, I get a funky aftertaste that affects my ability to enjoy it. Price was reasonable for the amount of food. Parking? Well, it is Bloomington, so paid street parking is hit or miss, but fortunately they have added reasonably priced garages around downtown. Review #2824 read more

When my coworkers decided to go to a Greek restaurant, I didn't realize they meant it was mostly a pub with a slightly Greek theme. The food wasn't that impressive. They had basic gyros and salads but not a lot else. My Mediterranean Antipasta Salad was good but way overpriced. There wasn't a lot that was unique about it and I could've made something similar with better flavors at home. Our waitress was nice, though, and you get a free plastic cup for your drink. The restaurant feels like a pub, so I guess I wish they would just go with pub food instead of trying to make it slightly Mediterranean. I'd rather have gotten a loaded baked potato or something, but maybe I'm just picky. I was disappointed to have eaten here when there are so many other better rated restaurants in the Bloomington area. Oh well. You may enjoy it, it just wasn't for me. read more

Ordered the "Super G" gyro sandwich and a piece of baklava. I am from NY/NJ so I know what a good gyro should look and taste like. This was adequate. Was supposed to be stuffed with more meat but it did not seem that way. The gyro meat was cold and the tzatziki had no taste to it. Not worth the $9.99. The baklava is as delicious but the piece at $4.49 was tiny. I guess you shouldn't be picky for Greek food in Bloomington but this was an overall underachiever read more
