    Gyro amazing!

Excellent gyros! Quiet little restaurant right downtown with an old world feel. Full bar upstairs.

Very rustic place; a view showing the roasting lamb ready to be sliced for your meal. Old, old building with a lot of nostalgic decor, fancy lad wood railing and walls, even the bar is like an old saloon and down to the creaking stairs as you go to the top level. We we warmly greeted and asked if we'd like a beverage - the crafted beer list was quite small with maybe 4 craft and rest were standard millet and bud beers. Server was nice and served or beers, we ordered an appetizer (Cheesepa'rer). I highly recommend this appetizer spinach, feta and cream cheese, not sure what else but very tasty and served with diced pita bread- awesome. We ordered gyro sandwich with beef and lamb and a chicken gyro. I had chicken and it was a nice big sandwich but I tasted my wife's regular gyro and liked it much better. This is a Mediterranean place but they have American standard menu as well. My only complaint was the heat registers looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. Overall this was a decent place, oh the fries are hand cut and crispy nice home style fries. The food was good and decently priced.

Great authentic Greek food 100% the gyro sandwich was excellent very tender blends of meat and the home cucumber sauce is a great blend. The service is great the waitress (Maggie) is very attentive to our needs and prompt with refills. The dining room has an old throw back wooden benches and tables are rustic and cozy. We had desert the baklava is baked and layer upon layer of sweet phillo dough. A nice blend of filling and pecans. If you're in Bloomington for a game or weekend getaway this is a must stop right on the courthouse square. Baklava is A++‼

A Bloomington Staple - Trojan Horse Best known for: Gyros A delicious blend of savory lamb, beef and spices. Our unique method of cooking seals the juices and seasonings into the gyros meat, which we make ourselves. The gyros is sliced very thin and topped off with tomatoes, onions and our own Zaziki sauce (a combination of yogurt, sour cream, cucumbers and garlic) Better Burgers: I've been hearing they make one of the best burgers and Btown and while it was tasty - you have to get the gyro here, it just doesn't compare. Lots of toppings to choose from - get the jalapeño mayo! We started off with appetizers: Meatballs Kokkinisto: A blend of beef and lamb seasoned just right with Parmesan and Fontinella cheeses baked right in. Topped with a hearty Greek red sauce Breaded Dill Pickles: That's right. Breaded pickle spears! My personal favorite app that we didn't get this time is the Saganaki: Traditional fontinella cheese served flaming at your table with two quartered pitas. Opah! Pro-tips: - Get a basket of fries and onion rings for the table to share - Sit upstairs I've been going to this location since I was a little girl and it always has the same nostalgic feeling and I've always been impressed that the servers memorize your orders.

This is a classic in Bloomington! The Greek food is amazing. My go to order is the falafel pita. The sauce is zesty and goes great with the spice in the falafel. We always get the saganaki too! They have a nice selection of drinks & American food if Greek isn't your thing!

Locals told me that it was because the local pizza places, especially Mother Bear's, are so popular, that college students would go there instead of getting cheap, mid pizza. I have now been to Mother Bear's three or four times and really wish that there was a Little Caesar's Pizza in town. This most recent trip was during lunchtime and I ordered a cheese slice, a small house salad, and a drink. I fortunately got there early enough to get a clean table, though I saw probably fifteen to twenty people come in after me who were not so lucky. Following the sign at the door, instructing them to "Please Seat Yourselves," I heard several people ask out loud how they were supposed to do that if there were no clean tables. Some employees frantically cleaned a few tables and had them sit down. A few minutes after I ordered, the waitress brought the house salad. It looked fresh at first but the more I ate the more I realized that several of the romaine pieces were either clearly out of date or simply bad. In a moment when cyclospora is running rampant through the US, the lack of care in selecting the lettuce was worrying. Several moments later I began wondering if the cheese slice was going to be brought to my table soon. Instead, it was probably twenty minutes between getting the salad and the cheese slice and it was pretty obvious (see the photo) that the slice had been sitting under a heat lamp for around that same amount of time. The crust was dry, the cheese had become stale and too salty, and it was not a very enjoyable experience. Eating around the bad lettuce was, unfortunately, more enjoyable, and it was also better than the pizzas I've had here in the past, where the dough, toppings, and cheese aren't integrated in a way that blends their flavors together very well. The one thing I can say about this time is that the Dr. Pepper was fine, which is not something I can always say about restaurant sodas. I think for me this will probably be my last time going to Mother Bear's. It seems like one of those places that probably was good at some point in the past but now they rely on the fact that undergrads and locals will go to the restaurant no matter what. I'll probably just keep dreaming of eating Little Caesar's instead or, more likely, I'll just go get better pizza at Osteria Rago.

I got the basil pesto cavatappi here and it was just okay. The pasta seemed freshly cooked but the pesto sauce was just unremarkable. I got the small size as part of the duo with a side salad, and the small size is pretty large for a "small". The garden salad was good and fresh. This is in line with my food experience at the other location - there are a few dishes I've tried that have made me say "Oh, this is actually pretty good," but they're mostly just fine. I mostly go if I just want something fast that feels like a real meal and not fast food slop. I think I like the other location a lot better because the service is way friendlier (just based on this visit) and they have real plates and silverware when you dine in. This location bags everything to go even if you tell them you want to dine in, and the staff came across as very unenthusiastic.

I've eaten here a handful of times in the past few months and I come back because it's simple clean food at affordable prices with a comfortable dining room. Sometimes when I've visited around lunch time, when it's busy, someone doesn't bus their table and you have a table or two with plates left on it, but it's usually pretty clean. There are 3 ordering kiosks, but you can go to the counter to place your order with a staff member if you prefer. The staff that I've interacted with have been pleasant. I used to go to the Panera in my hometown when I was a kid and the food is pretty much the same as I remember it (except the baguette, which is definitely not as crusty as it was 10 years ago, but still decent). Special mentions to the bread bowl which has that tangy sourdough flavour and the brownie which is super fudgy but not too dense. The chai latte is a little underwhelming - it tastes like spiced milk with just a hint of tea. Decaf coffee is decent. It should go without saying that you won't find the most exciting or flavourful food at Panera, but I find their offerings satisfying when I just want something simple and balanced.
