Everything from the rowed Xmas lights on the ceiling, to the custom avant-garde wooden bar top speaks late 60s/early 70s cozy-chic to me. On top of this, the music and clientele rocks and, as a bonus, the interior is decked out in Rat Pack movie memorabilia -- apropos as the spot is, I imagine, named for the 1955 Sinatra film! However, when this guy invited me inside on Wed. 9-6-23,, it was a different story. It was very welcoming & friendly. The cold beers (Corona, Dos Equis, Modelo) in bottles were delicious, especially on a hot day, & at a discounted price during happy hour. The bartender (the owner's wife) kindly made me some free popcorn. There was a jukebox playing Mexican music & it was entertaining to see someone singing along to some songs. I enjoyed my time there & was thankful that my friend had invited me. I really like him & liked it even more watching him play pool & hit the ball really hard at times. We ordered a pizza, which was delivered to the wrong table. When we wanted to leave, the check took 20 mins as well. Now I have a crying baby and I'm waiting for them to try and split the check two ways and I eventually give up knowing that the task is too much for them to handle and just pay it all on one card. We had to track down the waitresses multiple times. It's like they have NO ability to anticipate the needs of their customers. "They ordered, pizza, maybe I should bring some plates". Nope! "They'll probably want their sauce before the food item is ICE COLD". Nope! Anytime we went into the restaurant the girls were on their phones. There were five tables in the restaurant tonight so there really was no excuse. I think this will be the last time I ever go to this restaurant. Unfortunately, the reputation of the old Congregation Ale House kept me coming back even when time after time, the service was abysmal, however, now that Congregation's former glory is thoroughly tarnished I can honestly say that I will not be coming back and I encourage everyone else to do the same. As usual, the service was very good. We started with two Clamato Bloody Mary's ($6.50/ea.) and an appetizer Sampler Platter ($17) with potato skins, chicken wings, and fries instead of onion rings. In the evening, we got two Tito's Clamato Bloody Mary's ($8.50/ea.). All drinks were well made, reasonably priced, and a little lighter than those made with a 100% tomato juice mix. Callahans has a pool table, plenty of TVs, occasional live music, and great staff and fun, friendly crowd. It isn't a fancy place, but food and drinks are good, and the atmosphere is usually lively. During my first visit, the service was great and I tipped generously -- around 40% -- especially since it's the holiday season. Unfortunately, tonight was very different. The service was poor from the start. The waitress handled my drink by placing her fingers directly on the rim of the glass, which made me uncomfortable and raised hygiene concerns. When it came time to pay, I covered the entire table's bill and, despite the service, still left a 40% tip. What truly bothered me was what happened next. After processing the payment, the waitress thanked only the white woman at our table and never acknowledged me or my mother -- despite the fact that I paid the entire bill. That moment felt dismissive and, honestly, discriminatory. It's disappointing, because everyone else seemed pleasant and the atmosphere is otherwise enjoyable. Unfortunately, this experience has made it unlikely that I'll return.
