If you know me, you know I'm always chasing a really good Cuban sandwich, so Tropi Shack was pretty much guaranteed to be my kind of place. They do their Cubans panini-style, pressed just right, and they've got a huge menu of similar pressed sandwiches to work your way through. It's the kind of spot where you immediately start planning what you'll try next before you've even finished what's in front of you. Their homemade green salsa is a standout. It's bold, spicy, and seriously flavorful, almost too good. Fair warning: if you go all in like I tend to, it can overpower everything else on your plate. Doesn't stop me from dipping every bite, though. Parking is easy, which is always a plus, and they've got both indoor and outdoor seating. The vibe is relaxed, down-to-earth, and very much that "local mom-and-pop" feel done right. Overall, a really solid spot, especially if you're into pressed sandwiches and Cuban flavors. I had a very hard time picking one item on the menu. There is such a wide spectrum of styles in flavors that anyone would be happy. My friends enjoyed it as well. We all got something different. Let me preface this review by saying that I lived in Miami for a decade. I honestly do not get the hype behind this place... AT ALL. I ordered a medianoché Cuban sandwich and it was more like Mid-ianoché. They had the nerve to put cold, deli-style, honey ham and a slice of pasteurized cheese product on a Cuban sandwich. It's literally the first Cuban I've had that didn't have Swiss cheese. The ham wasn't even warm, it was cold and they didn't even have the decency to pull apart the slices of ham to try to make it appear like they didn't just use cheap packaged ham. Literally zero effort put into making this. You can feel the absence of love in the food here. The sandwich was the definition of lackluster, I ended up tossing it after a few bites. The bread was the only thing they do right in my opinion. I can only assume it is not baked in house, based off the sheer amount of pre-packaged junk food they sell. They should offer to sell shots of insulin alongside the plethora of dessert menu items containing high fructose corn syrup and other chemicals. This place wouldn't last a day in Miami. read more

Stopped here for lunch after a trip to Blue Springs State Park to see the manatees. They do not lie when they say they ate the home of the best Cuban sandwich. I only got the six inch (classic Cuban) and was longing for more because it was so good! The gentleman who took my order was super friendly and they checked on me a few minutes after delivering my food to make sure I was enjoying it, which is uncommon for a counter service restaurant. I highly recommend a stop here for a great Cuban - they have more variety than I've ever seen - as well as hot dogs, other sandwiches/subs, and ice cream and milkshakes. First time coming here. Perfect weather for sitting outside. I got the 8 inch Jibarito Cuban, my girlfriend the 6 inch Chorizo Cuban, and grilled cheese for her daughter. Definitely a lot of options, so it's going to take a while to work our way through the menu. The place was super clean and they even have toys for the kids to play outside (nice touch). I opted for the Caribbean Cuban which was served with guava on sweet bread and my husband selected the Medianoche sub, a classic. Both were tasty but the rice and beans with onion topping was the tastiest thing we tried. The cole slaw slide was good but the portion was much smaller than the rice and beans. Inside dining was closed due to COVID but you could eat outside on their picnic tables or carry out like we did. Their menu has about thirty variations of the Cuban sandwich, Chicago dogs, hot dogs, ice cream and more. I split an original Cuban and a Hawaiian Cuban with my daughter. On a recent trip to Orange City, my daughter and I had a few minutes to spare before hair appointments and we were hungry. We needed something good, prepared quickly and portable. There is menu by the ordering window, the ordering window is small, protected with plexi glass, because covid. The gentleman, who happens to be Puerto Rican from NJ, was nice, patiently waited for us to decide. They have many, many different ways to prepare Cuban sandwiches and different options for hot dogs also. I ordered a New York Dog combo, I mean, I am a New Yorker, it consists of spicy mustard, sauerkraut & red onion sauce, a side, a chose Cheetos chips and a drink, I chose a water bottle. It was all good, the hot dog was hot, the toppings were fresh and tasty, it was a hot dog, not anything super extraordinary but it was good, I enjoyed it and it satisfied my hunger. My daughter went with a Cuban combo, The Other Grilled Cuban made with roast pork, ham, provolone cheese, yellow American cheese, salami & mayo & pickles. This combo also comes with a side and drink, she got potato chips and a coke. The sandwich looked better than it tasted. A great Cuban should be moist and bursting with flavor. She said something was off about it, it was dry, needed some moisture, she settled for a ketchup packet she found in her car. Still she removed some of the pork, it was dry and bland, maybe a bit old. Overall, Tropi Shack served our purpose. If ever we are back in the area I will try the Chicago Dog and their desserts since they serve the beloved Blue Bell Ice Cream. read more

I only get to come here a couple times a year, but when I do...I always stop at tropical shack. This place is awesome and priced accordingly. When you first walk in its like a mom and pops place. Very relax and welcoming. There is also outdoor seating for the good weather days. One thing I love is they have a very good menu. Lots to choose from and I know it will turn out good. This time I ordered the Philly cheese steak fully loaded with coleslaw and a soda. While they were making my food I watched them make a LARGE BANANA SPLIT and this is no exaggeration .. It looked like a gallon of ice cream. It was HUGE, and it looked absolutely delicious. 3 people are it... But I totally envied them. It did take awhile to get my food. However the owner did say he had picked up a lot of business and put a request to make the kitchen bigger. There is literally no room for then to move in there. Anyways...I received my sandwich with high hopes that it would be delicious and it was...In every way. Bread was awesome the meat was awesome.. It was cheesy... The other day I had a terrible Cuban sandwich. I won't name the place but it's know for games, not food. So I heard the Cuban's were good here and it did NOT disappoint!! It's the cutest little shop with a retro Tiki feel. They serve ice cream too but I was here for an authentic Cuban. The bread was perfectly pressed. The pork was tender and flavorful. The owner and I had a nice chat about my bad Cuban experience and he gave me his card. He said it takes a bit of time but it's worth it. Went there tonight at 6:45pm the lights where on people were there eating ice cream outside. I checked online it said they were open until 9pm. My husband and I walked up liked at the menus decided what we wanted to eat. Just as we were going to the window to give our order a guy comes out the side door t o tell us he's closing. He said we're not serving any food only ice cream. We close at 7pm I told him it says he's open until 9 online he said well it's wrong we close at 7! We were very disappointed and won't return.
