Took a little day trip to DeLand and asking around, BakeChop was recommended by several locals so we chose them for our lunch spot. The food was very good. I had the Alice in Wonderland burger, which tasted like a yummy burger and French onion soup had a baby. It was an unexpected combination that was absolutely delicious. Already thinking about how I can make this at home. My friend had the California chicken sandwich, which she enjoyed as well. We both had the seasonal watermelon feta side.... Yum! The space is cute and rustic. The walk up window for the host was pretty great so the staff isn't outside in the Fl heat. All the positive reviews led me here for lunch when visiting the city with my mom. This restaurant sits in the heart of downtown Deland amongst alot of shops. There was a market going on that we enjoyed exploring on our way over to the restaurant. It's not very big on the inside but does have tables inside and out. The inside is open allowing you views into the kitchen area. I ordered the Allicin Burger which is a beef burger with french onion reduction, crispy onion straws, swiss cheese, and garlic aioli. The meat was very juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed all the onions. It made for a solid meal. The old bay potato chips were a good pairing for the burger. My mom ordered a more traditional burger and she liked it. I noticed the bakery item display and it had a good selection. I deducted 1 star for customer service. While the food was very good, the service did not feel warm. Our server felt very cold and was short with us. She never once cracked a smile and it almost felt like we might have been bothering her by just being there. Did a pick up and go order on the day of the dog parade in farmers market I had a hamburger special. It was the juiciest hamburger I've had since I've worked in Florida in 2019. Bake Chop has an ideal location on Friday nights. Right in the center of Artisan Alley, you can enjoy your meal watching the people strolling by. Even at the end of July, it wasn't too hot to sit outside. The tables are shaded by the neighboring buildings, and there's still a nice breeze. The TLT is a huge sandwich. WOW! WOW wow wow , their food was so good! We came here on a recommendation from my aunt who was friends with the owner and it did not disappoint. The ambiance inside is very nice with tall ceilings and exposed vents . All of the staff were nice and they even turned down the a/c for us when it was blowing right over our table . But the main thing I want to touch on is the food !! Oh wow ! We split the boulevard sandwich which was grilled chicken, lettuce, goat cheese and other toppings. It was really really yummy. We also had their fries and the turkey pot pie soup which might have been my favorite of all of them . A couple beers to round that out and we had a great meal! First our server, Cohen was adorable, efficient, attentive and an all around exceptional server!! My husband had the teriyaki chicken bowl and he loved every bite. My brother is moving to this area in the next few months and we decided to tour the local restaurant scene. The energy of the restaurant was very warm and inviting and our server was super friendly. I don't live in the area but if I'm anywhere near here (like today I was at Blue Springs) I make it an effort to eat at BakeChop! This local fav is located in Deland in the Artisan Alley area - a quaint couple of adjacent streets that are closed on Friday nights for a market with vendors set up in the alleyways and every few months for the Deland Indie Market (a great time to visit). There's breweries, taco trucks, juice bars and more nearby so you can make a whole day out of it - plus Freedom Park a few blocks away for the kids (epic park, check my reviews!) The food at BakeChop ranges from grass fed burgers to ahi tuna poke bowls along with vegetarian, gluten free, and bun free options for entrees and apps. We have been here twice, both on Friday nights. The first time was a perfect experience- short wait, good service, delicious food. The second time was still a short wait, but it was there the similarities ended. We got seated at 8:20- they close at 9. Our waitress seemed stressed and let our appetizer sit in the window for a bit while she rolled silverware which was annoying. Our food came moments after the appetizer which the waitress tried to take when it was not half gone. My main issue was the entrees. Last time we got a poke bowl and a Mediterranean bowl and we RAVED. The portions were generous and the flavors...just wow! We couldn't wait to return. This time we both got Mediterranean bowls and it truly looked like they took one portion and spread it onto two plates. Such small portions. We honestly thought she must have thought we said to split one entree. The chicken was dry. The orzo, hard to find. The flavor? Still good, but we felt ripped off. Consistency is king. If I'm going to spend 80 bucks on dinner, I need to know I'm getting good quality every time I return. So we will probably not be returning here. read more

I've eaten here many times, and unfortunately this has become a recurring issue. The restaurant frequently serves menu items with missing ingredients without telling the customer. This visit I specifically asked my server to let me know if they were out of anything because I would choose something else. She assured me my meal was complete, but when I got home I found it was still missing two ingredients. Running out of items happens, but customers should be informed before the order is prepared so they can decide whether they'd like a substitute or a different meal.
