My husband brought home a bouquet of roses this evening and when I unwrapped them, I discovered that a decent number of stems were dark brown, all of the the petals were all separated and they also had black blemishes on the tips along with being slightly torn. The roses for the most part are limp. Total crap quality is the best way I can describe them. This put a real damper on our Valentine's Day weekend. Any other place these would've lasted 3-5 days. I doubt they will last 2 days in their current condition. You should be ashamed of yourselves ripping off native New Yorkers and anyone that visits this disgrace of a business. Needless to say, disappointed beyond belief. My husband couldn't even bring himself to tell me the price due to being severely disappointed and ashamed so I'm guessing you guys charged a pretty penny for these garbage flowers. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. A friend of mine recommended this place for a major landscaping project involving 25+ arborvitae trees last October - I spent over $4,000 with them. The guys who planted the trees seemed nice enough, but scraped every last inch of my deck in the process without any protective tarps. I didn't complain because I was satisfied with the job to get the trees installed. They also left an intense mess of dirt and branches in the hallway, which took over an hour to clean. Again - didn't complain. Less than 6 months later though, all of the trees are dying and turning brown. I followed care instructions to the letter - a landscape designer has since informed me the trees were planted poorly and way too close together, so they are all competing for nutrients. I reached out to the gentleman who coordinated the installation 3 times via text and phone, to see if his team could come out to help rectify. I even offered to pay for a follow-up visit. No response for weeks. I then went to the website and attempted to contact them via email. No response. They took $4,000 for the job and now can't be bothered to return a phone call. I deeply regret working with this company - go elsewhere. read more

The selection is pretty descent. But their pricing scheme is shady. I was quoted $85 on a particular plant, only to return 10 minutes later and have another staff offer a good deal of $125 on the exact same plant. Do not buy anything from this store. I spent just under $1K on a large cactus that was supposed to be potted, snake grass to be potted, and three smaller succulents. When they delivered, the guy said he was supposed to pot the cactus in my apartment. However, he just stuck the plant in the nursery container in the larger pot and put foam around it and sprinkled rocks on top. They also forgot the succulents to be delivered as well. I called the store and they then resend two guys to properly pot the cactus and bring the succulents they forgot the next weekend. After wasting another day waiting at home for the delivery guys to arrive, they spend over an hour potting the plant. They scratched the hard wood floors in my apartment and I noticed right after they left when I was cleaning up (there was dirt/rocks scattered in my apartment. I called the store and they are taking zero responsibility and telling me they are losing money on me for sending out a second delivery team after I paid for the first one and they messed up. He said they'd only cover the cost if I called when the delivery guys were still there. Absolutely ridiculous. I have never felt so taken advantage of by a business before. read more

Came here looking for some greenery to brighten up our apartment during the winter months. The store itself is very warm to accommodate the plants so be prepared to feel the heat if you come during the colder months! I liked the display of succulents in the front of the store, especially the terrariums, but could not easily find any prices listed for anything. I asked one employee who either did not want to help me or did not understand me and then asked another one who it seemed like just made up random prices for the plants. While I'm sure negotiating for prices might be part of this store's business model, without any sort of anchor I immediately felt like I was going to be taken advantage of. Additionally, when walking around, the back of the store with the larger potted plants was blocked off by an employee who had taken several off the shelf and placed them in the aisle. Maybe we hit the store on an off day, but, nothing about this experience made me feel like I needed to come back, except the cute succulent display, which I would need to get prices from other stores to feel comfortable that I wasn't getting ripped off. read more

I have been to Tropical a few times before to buy some small cacti and succulents for our window sills, but they really went above and beyond and customer service for a special gift that I recently ordered. I came here to buy my mother an azalea topiary for Mother's Day. They said to call later that week to confirm their color selection and how I would like the topiary potted and wrapped. When I called, they listed each of the available colors, let me pick out which one I wanted, and had it custom-planted in a lovely cube ceramic vase topped with a bed of moss. they even made sure to give me one that had not bloomed yet so my Mom could watch her topiary flower on her porch over the next few weeks! When I came in to pick it up, they hand-wrapped it for me in cellophane and ribbon, and made sure I could safely carry it home on the subway. This is one of the best places in the city to buy plants and flowers, and at very, very affordable prices to boot. After coming here I would never go back to boutique flower shopping. Plus, I love the idea of supporting small businesses with knowledgeable staff that love what they do. read more

TAKE CARE WITH YOUR PURCHASES from this store!!! I spent $240 on a fiddle leaf ficus - a "special price" only to be offered that day. This plant was large, and suppose to be relatively easy to maintain, so I took them up on the good price for the size. The plant started dropping leaves within two days of bringing it home! A month later, after extreme attention to proper watering and a humidifier running next to plant constantly, 90% of the leaves had dropped off. After contacting the shop and sending pictures, they offered to "take care of me". I went there a day later and they proceeded to try and sell me another plant for $300! So much for taking care of me... My guess is the plant I bought was right out of a hot house from Florida and the good price was their knowledge that they needed to sell it quickly. There is some stiff competition for the best plant store on the block, but this place comes in close to it's neighbor. I got a great pony tail plant here (actually there were three bulbs in one pot) that has grown beautifully. Lots of cactus and succulents. This place is super shady -- do not give them business! I bought a medium sized plant and paid for delivery. When the delivery guy arrived (a day later than scheduled), the plant was in the wrong sized pot and the clay saucer was missing, which I had asked for at the store. Then someone from the store called me and said I needed to pay the delivery guy an extra $25 to bring the plant upstairs to my apartment. The only reason I paid for delivery was so they would simply deliver the plant to my apartment door. I refused to pay the extra fee, and thankfully the delivery guy carried it to my door. Still, the store service was so rude and difficult to communicate with. I never would have bought this plant had I known what a hassle it would be. They won't be getting my business again. For Christmas I needed Poinsettias for the chapel of our church to be delivered on Christmas Eve. I had lost my wonderful farmer from the Green Market as it had become to expensive for him to raise poinsettias and they were always wonderful! I was at a loss! Tropical was recommended to me by another vendor i use for my greens in the chapel. I stopped by the shop, got the information i needed, placed my order three weeks ahead by email, received confirming email of the order and .... Christmas eve am, the MOST BEAUTIFUL poinsettias arrived at our chapel, not only timely, but in perfect condition, full green fresh leaves and beautiful blossoms which really made the space come alive! Now 13 days after the arrival of these plants they are still almost perfect! I could not have been happier!! I can't wait for Easter to place my order for that holiday! read more

I went in after finding the price of snake plants too high next door at Noble Plants. I was in and out within five minutes with my new plant that cost me $10 as opposed to the $30 asked at Noble.
