This is the worst store for plants in NY. They're cheap because the plants are sick or contaminated. You get what you pay for. Located in the flower district this is one of my favorite spots. They have great selections of the most beautiful colored floral arrangements. I always come here for the orchids. The staff is extremely helpful. I trust they always pick out the healthiest one for me because they always last for months at a time. DISAPPOINTED: My mom ordered a bouquet of flowers for my graduation, but we were both very disappointed by the roses from International Garden. Since people all have different aesthetic, I won't comment too much on the packaging of the roses. But flowers were loosely wrapped and not even fresh. The outer pedals have turned yellow and started falling. Instead of having 15 roses (which my mom paid $3 for each), I got 13 roses. Basically paid an extra $6 for the 2 missing roses. That said, the flowers were ready when my mom picked it up in the morning so I guess the service is delivered timely. Still, I can't express how disappointed I am, given graduation is such an important and special occasion. Even a refund would not make up for it. read more

(see pictures) After reading a good article in the WSJ about how plants clean the air of so many specific chemicals, I was aroused to action today. Mainly buying a $25 (+ tax) potted plant, that will brighten my day. Working in the Flower district, you never really go into these shops, but they have a movie scene quality about them. You see the restauranteurs making their big purchases. You see the early morning workers, eating their lunch at 8am out of illegal push carts. It's really the closest thing to what was the Fulton Fish market, since it relocated to the Bronx. Anyway...they're very helpful here. Not pushy. Take your time. Browse bouquets. Relax. Bad customer service for buying small plants. I got a small orchid for a client and had no idea it's non-refundable. There is but a small insignificant sign by the counter. I informed the lady that if there is a sign legible in huge font and preferably red colors then I will not buy. I can easily buy an orchid at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods with a better return policy. My purchase was a small item and I'm reviewing this antiquated policy over returns. Next time, Fairway is just around the corner. I'll get flowers there for projects. This florist hands down has the best quality of flowers. Particularly in the floral district there's no comparison. These florals have lasted me the longest (especially my orchids)! In addition, the staff is very pleasant when servicing their customers. The reason for this 4 of 5 stars is due to high traffic and sometimes their few staffers being so busy I've had to purchase from others near by which was annoying. I guess I was unlucky, I got two dozen of roses and one of them was totally went bad, 25 stems of roses. I was out of City didn't not have time to ask for return right away, so I took the picture, kept recipet and flower went about a week after. They all tough asked me a lot of questions, ask me why didn't I call, I said I didn't know. They were very impatient, rude. So I decided not gonna take the return because is going to be store credit or getting flower from them. I changed my mind about the flowers I wanted about 5 times and she was still extremely helpful. Only reason why it's 4 stars is because when I changed my mind for the last time she sucked her teeth and slapped her hand on her thigh. I understand it was frustrating for me to change my mind that many times, however, it's unprofessional to be annoyed with a guest who is trying to create the perfect bouquet. When I informed them they initially tried to blame me and only begrudgingly gave me another 2 dozen roses. They started dying the next day and within 3 days all were dead. I have worked with Maria, Chanida, Carlos and the entire International Garden team for almost 5 years and I cannot say enough good things about them. They are courteous, professional, and actually care about the service and quality they give. They have created small arrangements under $25 for me all the way up to single arrangements that were over $1,000 and I have received the same level of customer service each time. You often see black cars waiting outside because many of the grand homes/apartments on the Upper East Side and throughout Manhattan use the services of International Garden (Tommy Hilfiger's wife was in there last time I was shopping). Came in to look for a bonsai tree for my dad. They had a small collection of some different sizes and kinds, and I was helped immediately to figure out which would be best. It was an older woman who helped me and she told me all about the different bonsais and what they needed, whether they were inside/outside, and just general info. This is my favorite florist in New York (right in flower district). I find everyone in here always so helpful and selecting the perfect arrangement for my clients and friends. Even when I have not been in store to see the arrangement I have heard from my recipients that the flowers were always stunning. It sounds like ordering a $50-75 bouquet or arrangement from International Garden is a good way to go, but I was shopping for blooms for friends to create on their own and it proved to be more difficult. It's good they're laid back/not pushy, but overall shopping was confusing bc prices aren't labeled - you have to guess and ask about every variety and then calculate - Which is fine if you know that going in and know exactly what you need. In this case we were creating 2 or 3 different arrangements and I ended up with over 10 different types of stems, totaling about $130. Overall I would give the 3 or 4 stars for range of flowers offered, convenience, and if you ask a question they'll nicely answer.... but have to give them 2 because after buying the blooms Friday at 4pm and arranging that night, they looked beautiful Saturday but were DEAD by Sunday. This was with proper care - water and air conditioning, etc. Blooms should never die that fast (unless being sold off as such). I've had better value from the corner deli to be honest. We were thankful to get one good day out of the arrangements but disappointed as most arrangements last about a week - or at least a solid 3 days. Since I live across the street maybe I'll try them again, but if I didn't live in Chelsea I might not bother. read more

However, I was appauled to be interrupted during my cocktail hour because the delivery was over 1 hour late, Instead of making a quick finalized payment, I was suddenly renegotiating the terms of our agreement while my affair was going on. The inital quote included the vase. The final bill did not address this at all. I was told if I wished to keep the vases that the price was $50 versus $25 that we were orginally quoted when we first spoke with the owner. If that was not bad enough, the following day, I had my family brunch interuppted my numerous calls because the person at the catering hall did not know of any vases. I had to call the Catering hall & have an irate man tell me how he was cursed out by your angry employee. Who on earth wants to deal with such negativity, hostility, or inappropriateness on the heals of a major event?
