They give a quote and then 3 days later after they have the shipment increase the price over 15% once they have the shipment and there's nothing the customer can do. read more

After calling customer service, we told them our delivery guys wouldn't be there until 4 pm to 5 pm because we are 3 hours away, which the customer service said was fine. This turned out not to be the case because when our delivery guys arrived at 430 or so, they said they closed the shipping side for outgoing and incoming shipping at 3 p.m. Not only was the staff there rude to our delivery men, but now we have to plan a new trip down to Miami. read more

My shipment was supposed to be on a boat the next day after I dropped my pallets off. Well, they decided to hold it for over a week because of incompetent staff. While I was there, I checked, re-checked and checked again that they had everything they needed to get my pallets onto the ship the next day. After being assured that they would be on the boat, I left. Interestingly, they never even alerted me that they had held the shipment!! I could not freaking believe it. It was only after calling that I found that they had held the shipment. When investigating to find out why, it was because they said that there was equipment on the pallets that valued over $2500.00, which there wasn't. There were 3 items on the same line that came to a total of over $2500.00. So if you are going to use this company, you'd better make sure that you know exactly what is needed from the shipping side and receiving side. Or... Don't use them. read more

I wouldn't advise anyone to use Tropical shipping's services to transport anything valuable. My vehicle was significantly damaged while in the care of Tropical Shipping. When I received it, it had so much dirt on the entire car that I could not see the huge crack on my windshield, so I signed off on the vehicle. Later that day, it rained. I saw the damage that day but their office was closed already. I brought my vehicle back the very next day, first thing in the morning. I submitted a claim that day but they denied saying that they didn't know if the damage occurred while in their care or mine. I spoke to a claims representative who became defensive immediately fishing for inaccurate reasons why my claim was denied and trying to convince me to go through my own insurance. I was also told that their was damage on the windshield when they picked it up but the damage they saw and the damage I reported was on different sides of the windshield. I received similar responses from the manager. Almost 2 months later of submitting my claim, I finally spoke to the President who told me that the damage was too expensive for them to take responsibility. I asked him what I could have differently in the situation and he didn't have any suggestions. I don't like being treated as if I did something wrong. I live in the Virgin Islands at the moment. After getting settled, I learned from everyone that if anything gets sent through Puerto Rico, that it is almost guaranteed that it will be damaged. I already felt uncomfortable with the way I was treated with customer service before I shipped my vehicle, so to go through this feels like adding an insult to injury. I have been told that Crowley is a reliable service. I will be using them or some other service next time. read more

We shipped a crate by Tropical Shipping; the crate was delivered within the time frame that they stated (16 days). When I opened the crate, the majority of the contents were drenching wet with water. Mildew had already set in when the crate was delivered, and the metal contents were rusty. There were considerable amount of damages. Tropical Shipping response:" Tropical Shipping's position that we are not responsible or liable for damages that may have occurred when the cargo was no longer in our care, custody and control". Note: The cargo took one day to clear customs and we took possession the second day. read more

Dear Tropical Shipping, I have tried and tried to get through to Tropical Shipping for over 8 months now, and every attempt has been more frustrating than the last. They were supposed to ship our crate from the U.S to the Caribbean without destroying our belongings. Tropical Shipping failed miserably at this. And in addition to that, they took no responsibility for damaging an entire crate with a value exceeding $3,000 (nevermind the actual cost of shipping). If Tropical Shipping can't stand by its service, what exactly do they stand for? My family and I have been loyal Tropical shipping customers for over a decade. We have always considered them to be a company that always listened to their customers, but the past 8 months of being ignored has changed our opinion. Our belongings were destroyed in transit to the beautiful island of Anguilla. Even though they have acknowledged the fact that our belongings were destroyed in transit to its destination, they have refused to honor our claim. I spoke to everyone from the Vice President to the head of customer service and no one cared. This is even in spite of photographic evidence and documentation to substantiate all of our claims. Why do big companies feel they can bully and ignore their customers? I don't believe it is ever okay to treat paying customers like this. Tropical Shipping lacks integrity, and from the top down has exhibited terrible customer service. The one thing I know is that I will never use your company again, and I will tell my extended family and friends never to use your company again. Please, whatever you do, do NOT use this company. All the expectations I have in a shipping company is to get my items where they need to go in the same condition I sent them. This company failed on both counts and refused to compensate me in any way. Although the waste of money (in the thousands $) is infuriating, it pales in comparison to the lack of customer service and communication by this company. If you hear their name, run in the opposite direction. read more
