Hi there! I was having a lovely time drinking my strawberry banana smoothie when all of a sudden I feel a blast of cold air. The door wooshed open! And when I look to see who came to this lovely sanctuary of heavenly fruits, there was no one there. But when I looked down I saw a hippo walk in. Now I don't know if this hippo got loose at some Zoo but I screamed and when I got up to run out of the store, I was tripped by the purple glob and hurt my toe. I just discovered this place last year and am now a regular customer for their delicious smoothies! (Honestly better than smoothies at other chains). Place is clean & smoothies were as expected. However, I am giving 2 stars based on the fact that when the tip screen showed up after I paid for my smoothies, the cashier reached over and clicked the green button to tip himself 20% before I could even read the screen. I was so caught off guard and uncomfortable I wasn't even able to speak up while in store. All that to say, BEWARE when ordering in person- you may just have a tip forced on you. Wish I could give 3.5 starts because the fruit topping is great, and my opinion is based on my preferences. I ordered a smoothie bowl, I actually requested greens, but apparently that isn't available so I got dragonfruit as a base. I ordered with no granola, but it had granola. I took one bite of the base and it was kind of gooey but I think it's just not real fruit, maybe a mix and that is why they don't offer greens as a base, it's a sugary gelatinous consistency as it melts. I personally prefer a healthier alternative to this. read more

I rushed over to this location right before they closed because I had the urge to indulge myself this evening. I wasn't close to the location where I go regularly, but I was able to search this place out and it was only about fifteen minutes away from where I was. My favorite smoothie of all time from here is the Jetty Punch which comes in at less than 380 calories. It's a special smoothie blend of strawberries and bananas and it really has captured my soul! I went for it again, and the cool employee who was behind the counter took my order and had it prepared in less than five minutes! My second favorite smoothie is the Blueberry Bliss, but the is one is definitely up their with the calories, so I can't get it all of the time. A friend of mine always get the Mango Manic and brings it to work. One of these days I will go for that one! read more

I was excited to try the new "Tropic Bowls" from Tropical Smoothie, as the pictures advertised online looked delicious, and it was a good way to switch up my normal smoothie order. I ordered the Green Dream Yogurt bowl with no coconut, no honey, and pineapples instead of blueberries, as I thought the pineapple would taste better than the blueberries with the other ingredients listed. If I could go back in time, I would have stuck with the blueberries instead of switching to the pineapples, as my order came with canned pineapple chunks on top of it. Tropical Smoothie advertises itself as selling products with the freshest ingredients; there is nothing fresh about canned pineapple. I would have preferred not being able to substitute the blueberries at all rather than being served canned pineapple on an almost $10 yogurt bowl. I was highly disappointed by the quality and won't be ordering this item again, unfortunately. read more

Alexandria gets a decent amount of representation since I lived there the first 3 years in the DC area, and in fact the first 2 of 3 reviews on the list are in Alexandria. Experience/Taste/Customer Service: I went to this Tropical Smoothie on several occasions. The smoothies are always tasty. They were friendly and fast. One cool thing that Trop Smoothie does is donate to Camp Sunshine, which is a camp on a lake in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses to give them the opportunity to enjoy various recreational activities around the scenic, picturesque lake, and has helped children from all 50 states & 27 countries. On the 3rd Friday in June from 2-7 PM, it's what they call National Flip Flop Day. If you wear flip flops, you get a FREE smoothie and instead of paying them, you can make a donation to Camp Sunshine. I went to this location on 2 of those National Flip Flop Days. read more

This is a great healthy spot, not too many of these in the area. They have a good variery of smoothies and food. I've been here quite a few times now. Whenever i feel like i've eaten too much crap in the day, i come here for dinner to get some healthy foods. As a vegetarian, the only food option they have is the Hummus Veggie Wrap and it's absolutely delicious! I usually get the protein smoothie, occasionally I'll try other smoothies and when i see them on the menu with their beautiful pictures, i get tempted! It's a nice spot surrounded by smalls shops, restaurants and cafe. Plenty of seating area and plenty of parking. This has been my go to spot for protein smoothie, a bit pricey $7 but it's quite large and worth the price. Reminds me much like South Block in Clarendon but i think South Block is a little better in choices. I can practically get anything on their menu made vegetarian as for this place, they don't customize. Still rather come here driving 5 mins than drive 20 minutes to South Block. Most people come here to get to go orders, rarely you'll see patrons sitting around. It would be nice if they had some outdoor seating as its getting warm out. Consistently amazing! We visited Tropical Smoothie Cafe again when we were recently craving smoothies and we also decided to order the food there this time. As we did last time, I ordered the Paradise Point (strawberry-pineapple-banana) smoothie and my fiancé ordered the Peanut Paradise (banana and peanut butter) smoothie. The smoothies are all 24 oz (they don't have different sizea) and are very reasonably priced and delicious! We also ordered their delicious tacos! You can get 2 or 3 tacos and mix and match. I ordered the Thai Chili Steak and the Korean BBQ Steak. My fiancé ordered the Korean BBQ Steak and the Smoked Jalapeño Chicken (which was surprisingly not too spicy for him!). The tacos were delicious and the portion sizes were excellent. The service is also wonderful and very honest here. We ordered and paid for our smoothies before we decided to order food as well and the guy behind the cash register still gave us a discount on the food (you get a discount if you order smoothies with your food), even though it was a separate transaction. Very honest. They have a great business model of treating customers with respect and I admire that. We will certainly be visiting again! And hopefully soon! read more

I order so many different smoothies but love them ALL! I'm allergic to strawberries so I have to substitute a fruit. I love the Mango Magic, Orange Ginger Glow, and Sunny Day Smoothies. I've only tried 2 food items: Caribbean Jerk Wrap and the Chicken Pesto Flatbread (no balsamic drizzle) . I have always order my food there with the vegetarian meat. Pretty tasty! Not bad! Not bad at all. I came here and got the Raspberry smoothie and a teriyaki chicken wrap. Both were extremely filling and good. Plus I didn't have a guilty conscience walking out of the place since it was relatively healthy. It costs a bit, but totally worth it in quality. Since this was the first time I had been to a Tropical Smoothie Cafe and walked away happy, then for sure I'd say I would come back again. I found a bug in my food and sent in a complaint and went to show them and get my food remade. The cashier was nice and remade my food. The owner had called and said he had refunded me for my food and sounded like he was peeved that he had refunded after finding out the food was remade. Judy that supports the store then texted me to say she will be sending me a coupon for the inconvenience. I agreed and sent my address. She then heard that I was refunded and got my food remade and texted me back after already confirming that she was sending a coupon, that she will now not be sending a coupon. This is such poor distasteful customer service to offer a coupon and then take it back? I have never in retail or food have anyone take a coupon back. At that point it has already been offered why would you want to make yourself look bad and take back a simple coupon? I said I was going to be going higher up due to HER response not the franchise owner or the cashier. She then said she can send the coupon if I want? No thanks lady I already don't want to go back because of YOU. This is a great place to grab lunch on the weekends. Their smoothies all come in the 24 oz size and are around $5. You can add a smoothie to a sandwich, flatbread or salad for $3.69, so the meal ends up around $10-11. You also get a bag of chips, fresh fruit or slaw with the meal. Their chicken pesto flatbread is amazing. That pesto sauce is so tasty! The jerk chicken wrap tasted more like a tex mex wrap, so I wouldn't recommend it unless that's what you're going for. The Sunrise Sunset, Island Green and Avocolada are all delicious! I realized that they put sugar in the raw (turbinado) in all of their smoothies except the Detox Island Green and one of the Chia Banana ones. Next time, I'll ask them for no sugar or sweetener. I had the Detox Island Green smoothie (superfood smoothie). It had a lovely extra spice from the ginger. Great idea for a smoothie. The greens in this drink come from the copious amount of spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, banana. Though a little heavy on the banana flavor. Because of that, I thought I could make something just as similar at home but at a cheaper price. They do have more powerful blenders, so the drinks are smoother than you could probably make. Unless you have an expensive Vitamix. Also, @32 grams of sugar, it has as much sugar as a can of Coke. But it's not processed sugars, so it's better for you and has 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C. I had this drink right before the gym, so it was great to get some energy in without eating anything too heavy and getting my greens in. The smoothies at this shop all come at 24 oz, so you have no choice but to order that size. read more
