Popped in for lunch here this week. I have frequently visited this TSC location because it is a favorite of one of my friends. I'm never really impressed by this place. It can become quite crowded at lunch. The staff has a hard time keeping up with the RTP crowd. It seems there's always an issue paying, not sure if it's their payment system or what. Always something is wrong with one of our orders, chips are missing or there's no utensils, etc. Every order is packaged like its to go. I can't imagine the amount of waste this creates. I'm never really wowed by the food or smoothies. Since you will be paying over $10 if you get both, I expect at least one to be good but it's typically just kind of average. You get fast food quality, at a more expensive price, in my opinion. read more

Yummy place. I wanted a filling meal that wasn't loaded with unhealthy ingredients so I decided to check out this place and grab a smoothie. I also ended up getting a sandwich. (Bonus: if you sign up for their emails, you'll get an immediate coupon for a $0.99 24 oz smoothie with the purchase of a sandwich. Given the prices of the smoothies, this is a big deal.) I got the Turkey Bacon Ranch sandwich. It comes with turkey, bacon, tomatoes, Swiss cheese and a romaine/spinach blend on a ciabatta roll. (Sidebar: I got the ranch on the side - it's healthier in my mind). Anyway, all the sandwiches come with a choice of chips (or a piece of fruit I believe...clearly I chose the chips). As for the smoothie, I got the Detox Island Green which has spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, banana & fresh ginger. It was so good and you could taste each ingredient separately. However, I may ask for less ginger next time as it was really potent. I liked my meal(s). I say meals because I was able to consume half (of everything) for dinner and the other half for lunch the next day - the smoothie held up well in the fridge. The only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the pricing. I get the ingredients are fresh but the smoothies are still on the high end. I guess this place has been open for a year now and I visited it TODAY?! WHAT?! This is what was missing in my lunching scene at RTP - healthy yet yummy food which low fat smoothies! I walked right in, the lady at front desk was very polite and helpful in spelling out all ingredients in the Southwest Chicken Wrap (which I read on their menu but I wanted to know what all is in it before I order it) and she said everything and was very patient with it: "Chicken, Salsa, Southwestern Rice with Corn, Black Beans & Asparagus, Tomatoes, Onions, Guacamole, Romaine, Light Southwest Ranch in a Toasted Flour Tortilla!" I asked if I can substitute for Wheat Tortilla and she said they're out of those. "No problem, I'll get the flour tortilla" I also got Island Green Spinach & Kale smoothie. The food was so great that I cannot wait for lunch tomorrow!! All the ingredients looked and tasted fresh and the food had lot of flavor. Oh and they have something called "Beyond/Vegan Meat" that I heard someone order for their Chicken Pesto Flatbread. Prolly, I'll try that next time!! This is a review for the vegetarians/vegans out there. So, I heard this place replaced the chicken in many of their chicken dishes with the great Beyond Meat chicken substitute and being the only restaurant that I know uses the substitute, I had to try it. Being a franchise chain kind of ordeal I didn't expect much, but wow! Yes, wow. It always adds so much to the quality of the food in the way that it is presented, and there it was, my Jerk Jamaican Chicken wrap (hold the mozzarella cheese) wrapped carefully and not messy in anyway. Placed in a basket with the bag of chips I ordered very nicely, I had to say, I was feasting with my eyes long before my mouth. First, a bite. Wonderful. All the flavors melded greatly and the best part? The back of the wrap didn't burst open like an over filled trash bag. It was clean and edible the entire time. My wife had the Caribbean Luau flatbread and expected the food to be bland and cold. But the flatbread did not disappoint, it was very flavorful and packed a punch. Oh, but my smoothie? The Island Green (Spinach, Kale, Mango, Pineapple and Banana) was top notch. Well blended, creamy and smooth, the flavor was predominantly a pleasant banana tone, with no overwhelming odd textures or flavors. Wife had the Caribbean C-burst, bright and tasty! Aside from the food, the staff was courteous and very helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant was clean and colorful. Tastefully so. The only complaint is that this is yet another victim of the "Sports Bar identity crisis" restaurants. Large TV's and the restaurants sound system is linked to them, so prepare for LOUD sports coverage, mixed with commercials about anything you can imagine to accompany your meal. This is my only issue with the establishment and could be easily fixed with closed captioning. read more

This location is super convenient for me as it is a fast and much healthier option than the other places in the area. I've found my favorite smoothie now and consistently order it everytime I come: Island Green (spinach, kale, mango, pineapple & banana) which is much more delicious than it sounds! In terms of food, I've had the Chipotle Chicken Club (grilled chicken, bacon, romaine, tomatoes, pepper jack & chipotle mayo on a toasted flatbread) and the Korean BBQ Steak Taco (steak, house-made cucumber & kale slaw and sweet & spicy asian bbq sauce in a flour tortilla) and the Thai Chili Steak Taco (steak, cucumber, sriracha aioli and a house-made sweet chili slaw with cabbage, carrots & basil in a flour tortilla). Everything I've eaten here always tastes fresh and delicious. The Thai Chili Steak Taco has got quite the kick though, so be prepared! read more

Absolutely delicious and you definitely get your money's worth at Tropical Smoothie! I've had lunch in the cafe and picked up to-go orders to bring back to the office as well and have always been quite pleased with what I got! I've never had the salads, but my coworkers have. They're good-sized, fresh, and tasty. Last time I went I got the Jamaican Jerk wrap. Chicken, low-fat Mozzarella, southwestern rice with corn, black beans & asparagus, onions, Jamaican Jerk Sauce in a toasted flour tortilla. I got mine without the onions and it was sooo good with just the right amount of "jerk" to give my taste buds a run around. I'm just now getting into wraps and this one had me sold for sure. The other entree I like to have is the Honey Ham & Swiss Flatbread sandwich. Ham, Swiss, tomatoes, field greens & honey mustard on a toasted flatbread. I always get mine without the greens and tomatoes. Just the right amount of honey mustard for a kick to balance off the sweetness of the ham and swiss and toasted just right. As for the smoothies, I've had many. I really love the Rockin' Raspberry which has raspberries, strawberries & bananas which is on the Low-Fat Menu. Last time I got the Tropical Berry Oat smoothie from the Supercharged Smoothie listing. It has strawberries, blueberries, cranberry, Multi-Vitamin, ground Flax Seed, whole grain oats, whey protein & Splenda. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it all. So many good flavors. The smoothies are a little pricey at around $4 or $5, but they're huge! Def a fan of this location. The service is always fast and friendly. It's almost always busy and you really cannot go wrong with anything you order off the menu. read more

It is a great smoothie place. It is close by so I will keep coming back, but will mention that I have had better. They serve food in addition to smoothies. I have yet to try the food since I have been going specifically for a smoothie, but the sliders have been catching my eye. I will need to wait for a day that I am very hungry because these smoothies are huge. So far I have had the Avovolada and Detox Island Green. I had them one day apart and they pretty much tasted and looked the same to me. The Avovolada may have been a bit sweeter and, in their defense, they do have similar ingredients. The smoothie is a great price for the size of the cup. The staff is friendly. Parking is difficult at prime lunch time around noon. read more

I was in the area for a week for work and didn't discover this gem until the last day! So sad. The flat bread chicken pesto sandwich was deeeelicious, really great flavor with melty cheese, and the flat bread was thick and soft as a pillow. I wish I could come back and try the other sandwiches or the wraps. The girl at the front was super friendly and helpful with the menu and giving recommendations. While traveling I like to wander around and find a good sandwich or wrap place for lunch. The Tropical Smoothie Cafe fits the bill. This has become my favorite spot while working in North Carolina's RTP. I went with the thai chicken wrap and a kiwi smoothy almost every time I went. The thai wraps have just enough spices to give your tongue a tingle. If nothing else stop in for the smoothies they are amazing! The service is fast which is good because this place gets busy over lunch. On a nice day you can enjoy your meal outside in the sun. The place is clean and staff friendly, I do not remember the 'score' for this restaurant but it has to be high. I like the idea of the restaurants having the sanitation score out in front for everyone to see it! So if you wander down to RTP stop in and grab a wrap and smoothy. This will set you back about 10.00 but I found it was well worth the money. read more

Delicious! The staff at the Durham location is super nice. The location is always really clean... even down to the bathrooms. The food is super health conscious at a great price. I love the fact they have their calories listed on the menu and they are visible to everyone. This is very helpful when you are counting your calories! The variety they offer is amazing, there's literally something for everyone. They have green smoothies, as well as "dessert" smoothies. On days I am in the gym, I'll even come in for a superfood protein smoothie. The food is also delicious. They have bowls, wraps, flatbreads, and sandwiches. I love the Jamaican Jerk wrap and bowl, and the Baja chicken wrap. They're to die for. Overall, I highly recommend. I will say, there are times you have to wait, but overall it's worth it to me. read more

I thought I would just get a smoothie but added a sandwich with the kale and apple slaw when I saw another customer's food. No regrets, delicious! I am a frequent visitor of this location as its on my way into work. I love the convenience of ordering on the app and having it ready when I walk through the door. The employees and manager here are very friendly and helpful. I'm always greeted as soon as I reach the counter, even if the cashier is with another customer, someone in the prep area comes out to help me. My usual Island Green smoothie (add whey protein and vitamin C) never disappoints as I'm on a journey to eat better! I love this place! read more

Went to Serena's next door and sat at the bar for 5 minutes without anyone taking my drink order. Wasn't busy. Came to tropical smoothie and had the best wrap I have ever had. Smoothie was good too but what made my experience here was Roberto. He might just be the nicest person I have ever met on this earth. He sat down and talked to me about cooking for about 5 minutes. I'm a smoothie fiend! I could have one every single day! I think it is such a healthy alternative to fast food if you do it right! I always get the Acai Berry Boost, add Pinapples. Oh man so good! I have asked for it with no sugar also and it is still awesome; you can tell a difference but it is healthier. I have never had to wait long so I am usually in an out in 10-15mins. DON'T waste your time or money. We ordered from this location from Door Dash delivery. We ordered two smoothies and one sandwich. When our delivery person arrived, she was missing a smoothie. She told us that when she showed the employee the receipt that had TWO smoothies, the employee said "no it's fine" and handed her the one smoothie. Not sure if it was laziness or incompetence but it's just unbelievable. I tried calling to let them know what happened and sat on an automated recording for over 5 minutes until I gave up. I stopped in at the Miami Blvd location for the first time after several visits at the one off Harrison Avenue in Cary. Counter service was friendly and prompt. The place was fairly clean and the smoothies were as good as I've come to expect but it took forever for the smoothies to be made. I ordered a smoothie and then placed an order ten minutes later for a second smoothie. 20 minutes later I still didn't have either smoothie. By comparison, I've never waited more than 4 minutes at the Cary location. It wasn't crazy busy by any means but everyone seemed to be waiting a long time for their orders. The place was well staffed, with no fewer than 4 employees at a time, even as a few were changing shifts. Maybe it was an off day. read more

I frequently get food and a smoothie from tropical smoothie and is one of my favorite smoothie places however recently I have had three experiences at this location which will probably make me start coming here less and just go to the location in Raleigh. One time I came in and their whole system was down and they were only excepting cash or payment through an app. Another time I pick up my food and smoothie that I ordered through the app but then by the time I'm already almost home I taste the smoothie and immediately spit it out. It was a watered down mixture that did not taste like a smoothie I've ever gotten from tropical smoothie before and then today I go to pick up my food and smoothie that I ordered online through the app and whenever I order on the app it's usually done 10 minutes after I placed the order however today when I get there my wrap is ready and they asked me what chips I want but then I say I still need my smoothie and the cashier just looked at me with a blank stare on her face and walked away and I thought that was pretty weird. She comes back and says she has no confirmation for a smoothie so I show her the receipt on the app and then she doesn't say anything and just walks away and I don't get a smoothie for another 15 minutes so by the time I get home my food is cold and when I'm given my smoothie there's no apology for the delay or anything. Staff in the back was moving extra slow and I honestly don't think they have enough training for this location in the middle of the research triangle. I've been to other locations in the area and they all are way more efficient than this one and after this experience I probably won't come back to this location anymore unless they get new management. read more

Only one friendly employee, the new guy. Service was slow. We had ordered cookies with our meal and didn't receive them. I went to the counter and asked for them. TWO employees were standing there. I thought they went into the back to get them. Turns out they just started doing something else. One started sweeping and I have no idea when the other was doing. Completely terrible customer service to just blatantly ignore me when I've simply and politely asked for something I paid for. I waited a minute and went and sat down. After me and my friend finished our meal, we asked the ONE nice, new guy and he went and grabbed them for us behind the counter. It took him 20 seconds.
