Another server spent close to 20 minutes chatting with a table about something completely unrelated to the restaurant while we sat there unnoticed. During that time, three separate parties were seated after us and were promptly given menus, silverware, and attentive service. We were never checked on again. After sitting there watching everyone else be taken care of, it became pretty clear we weren't going to be served that day. So we got up and left. I always hate sharing experiences like this because I truly want local businesses to succeed. But service matters just as much as the food, and sadly, this visit missed the mark entirely.

The walls are covered in framed historical documents and photographs about the Mathias Sandwich Shop and old signs from the 1940's and 1950's that I imagine are truly original to the era it was hoppin' and bussin' at during that time. It has a very unique feel to it, like a place your grandmother and her family loved to go to growing up in this area. You can tell some of their customers here are patrons. It's a true "mom and pop" kinda place, which I love! Although we ordered a kids burger and a couple Reuben sandwiches, I felt the need to come back and try everything on their menu. It was a simple sandwich, burger, hot dog, salad kind of diner, but each category had many choices to choose from. The food was served warm and with a smile, which is always a nice touch. My son ate all of his kid's burger and fries and my other son ate all of his Reuben and chips. Both of them were very satisfied! My Reuben was also very good. The flavors were true to their mark and very good. The service we received was also great! Parking can be tricky in the front of the shop, so I might try parking behind the shop next time. It was okay, but I've liked other bagels more. My husband ordered the Nachos Maximus, (his usual) but unfortunately the sandwich was incorrect and came with an egg on top. He has an egg allergy, so he had to drive back (15 minutes each way) to get a replacement. The team remade it right away, but unfortunately there was no apology or apparent care for the mistake. Unfortunately, his bagel just ok and not as good as it has been in the past. I think the owner just adds the magic touch-a sprinkle of love! Overall, it was a disappointing visit compared to our past experiences--noticeably, the owner wasn't there this time. That said, we still highly recommend Sully's. Everyone has off days, and we'll continue to support them. Keeping my 5-star rating because this place truly deserves it.
