Tropical Smoothie in Kendall at the London Square plaza. When I'm in the area and craving something on the "healthier" side, this is a great option! This Tropical Smoothie is a bit bigger than the one that I go to in my area in Broward and I like how much seating options there are. The staff is always friendly and the food comes out relatively quick. It's super clean and has outdoor seating, as well! Whenever I place an order online, they either forget to make it or get it wrong. Curbside doesn't work for them because when you call to let them know you parked, they don't answer the phone. I'm normally a Planet Smoothie (PS) guy and wanted to try the Tropical Smoothie Cafe for a change. First off, the condition and cleanliness of this location was very poor. The inside seating area was mediocre, but the bathroom was unacceptable. What's interesting, is right before going into the bathroom, I noticed a female employee coming out. Apparently she didn't care there was dirty toilet paper on the floor and soiled paper towels on the baby changing table. The selection of smoothies at PS is certainly superior and they offer multiple sizes to suite your needs. I could tell immediately Tropical smoothie adds some sort of sweetener to the smoothie. Perhaps high fructose corn syrup or straight up sugar. If you are looking for a healthy nutritional smoothie, this probably isn't a place to go. read more

I placed an order pick up in a rush on the way somewhere in the morning today and I went out of my way to go pick it up and the place was closed. I'm assuming whoever was supposed to work didn't show up but all lights were off and door locked. I could even see through the glass my order on the screen. My order was supposed to be ready 8:20am and they opened 8am. No one was there so I had to leave and go to my event empty handed and I had to still pay for it as it was through online pre-payment. This location is a hit or miss. Sometimes the smoothie is just pure ice, other times pure sugar...mind you, same smoothie is being ordered. I haven't had any issue with food..this is always good quality. Now....wait times & customer service is something else. Last two times I've gone, I ordered WELL AHEAD of time online or through the phone. And even then, I still get there minutes late and order is never done. Last time even after going 15 min late from what was said online, I still waited about 20 -25 min inside the store...so about 40 min AFTER the time promised. I understand being backed up, but this hasn't been just once. They should definitely work on their numbers and set true expectations. I'm not about bad reviews but this place just wasn't good and I wish I would've known. I was starving and on a diet so I pulled into Tropical Cafe. The place had a strong bad smell to it off the bat and it was also weirdly warm, so the smell lingered. The staff was very young, but polite. As a first timer I went with something simple, the chicken Baja bowl but because of the smell I took it to go. It was tasteless aside from the Baja sauce on the side and although it looked nice, it wasn't fresh. You could tell from the grilled chicken, that there was very little of by the way, it was quite bland and I couldn't finish it. There was still two hours till closing, which by the way is 10pm not 9pm, so it could explain the freshness of food but not when there's still two hours to go and quite a lot of customers. There's a good selection and varieties to choose from, and there's often coupons in the mail that will save you some bucks. The main problem with this place( and my reason for the 3 star rating) is the pace of the service. Every single time we've visited, we've waited a ridiculous amount of time for our smoothies. It doesn't make sense considering there's usually at least 5-6 people working there. If they can improve on that, it would easily move my rating to 4 star. Overall the food is good and usually fresh. To management: The inconsistency of this place is ridicoulous. You never know if you are go in there and get your order correctly, if your shake will be watered down, if employees are going to be throwing food orders across tables in the middle of a rush or if they are going to scream at customers for being overwhelmed. I have been a witness of all of this and I always find it extremely irresponsible that there isn't a manager telling employees right from wrong. Unfortunately, your restaurant is being ran by a bunch of teenagers who could care less about the service they actually provide. Through many inconveniences I have had myself, no one was ever there to approach regarding all of these issues. This is the third time I place and order and one of the main ingredients is missing. I figure this out once I am home taking a bite. This time around I went back to complain, and all the cashier was able to say was "I just found out we ran out". What happened to communication between employees?! If a cook sees they are running out of something, tell the cashier! But of course, all this comes down to the lack of management, clearly the lack of training and the lack of importance given to how your restaurant is ran. One thing that they will never forget to do, is remind you about leaving a tip. This too should be an option that customers have once they sign the receipt or decide to do so in cash. I've been to this location over 100000000x. Used to come maybe 2-3 times a week until I moved. When I frequent Kendall I usually stop by and get food or a smoothie. Today I had the most disrespectful and unappreciative experience I've ever had in a restaurant/cafe. I asked for a smoothie with light ice. I was asked if I wanted the smoothie watery/like juice. I shared with the girl in the counter I wanted a smoothie, just not an icee. (Sometimes they put too much ice) when "Valeria" the girl making the smoothie hears my order she tells her that "that makes no sense" she proceeds to give me a cup of juice. As she's making my "juice", she's telling all her co workers how this is stupid and makes no sense. I was so aggravated and annoyed at how disrespectful that was. She had no care that I could hear her. My friend who was with me looks at my "smoothie" and says don't worry I'll have them make it again. "Valeria" then says...to her male co worker "if she doesn't like it she should go home and make her own." Her co worker told her she was being disrespectful and she had no care. I promise I will never be back here. As a 30 year old female who is in management for a big company, I don't understand how anyone could have staff who treats their customers this way, and not only that, have 4 other individuals laugh along with her. This is BEYOND me. Your cafe has been through more staff members than a laundry machine has clothes. Clearly who ever does your staffing is incompetent. I definitely recommend everyone to try that one out. The staff is also very friendly and always helpful if you are not sure what you want.
