If you don't know where the place is you can drive right by it. The sign is hidden. We stopped by for lunch and just wanted oysters but they had taco Tuesday going on so I couldn't resist a couple of fish tacos too. All the food was very good. Oysters Rockefeller were great and cooked to perfection. I rarely talk about prices when I'm reviewing a restaurant but I can't help feeling that lunch was a little pricey. The tacos were only $5 each but the oysters were 25% more than what I paid someplace else yesterday. I knew that when ordered them so I'm not complaining about that. I'm just saying..And my wife's drink was $12. So, with a tip our lunch of 2 tacos and a dozen oysters was about $80. I can't do that too often. Huge outdoor seating area with a little bar, and a decent sized restaurant inside as well. Loved seeing all of the photos on the walls. My husband and i ordered the seafood boil and it was delicious. We are so glad that Tropical Trader is back in business! This is been one of our favorite seafood restaurants for quite a while. Service is usually very friendly and it's a very relaxed atmosphere. They have a nice selection of appetizers, especially the blackened shrimp queso and the pepper jack shrimp. The salads, especially the Greek salad and blue cheese wedge, are outstanding. We also love their fish and shrimp tacos and shrimp and grits. One standout entree is a fried whole flounder with a Greek salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, and feta on top. Went back twice so far since their reopening. The remodel is awesome. Looking forward to going on a weekend when there's music. The food is maybe even better than before. Order the cheese sticks, you won't regret it!!! Tripletail was the fish of the day so our table had the Trader Sampler to split and a fried grouper entree. Cheese grits were really terrible, to say the least, but we were full off of everything else anyway. Service was good but we were still charged the "non-cash" fee even when paying cash. read more

Great service. Atmosphere was good. The food was not great. Had the Low Country boil, which they were very proud of. Some of it was okay, but Crawfish were terrible! The new Tropical Trader is a pleasant surprise from the old one. Totally remodeled after the fire that destroyed it several years back. It's very clean and the decorations are a nice touch with photos of fishing expeditions by Thomas(the owner) and his daughters The food is good solid fresh seafood. My wife and I had the fried grouper sandwich which came with a large piece of grouper. Had a dozen on the 1/2 shell as an appetizer and they were very salty but not overly large. The raw oysters are somewhat pricey at 24.00 a dozen. Service is excellent fast and efficient. Our waitress was friendly and professional. Highly recommend based upon our experience. Will go back for more fresh seafood and probably skip the raw oysters next time. read more

We stayed in Panacea for the weekend and stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. It was quite busy but we were seated quickly. There was ample outdoor seating but we opted to dine inside because it was hot and muggy that day. The food was VERY good. I would have liked a bit more seasoning on the fried shrimp but otherwise it was tasty. It was a bit pricey. For three people who had combo seafood plates and a few drinks, the bill was right at $200. Not something we would do regularly but it was a nice birthday meal. read more

We declined the special after the waitress gave us a heads up on the ridiculous cost. We each had one drink, the Triple Tail & a pasta dish. Tony and I had dinner at Tropical Trader Shrimp Company Restaurant and Bar in Panacea Florida. Today was 08-12-2022. We shared a appetizer called "Maters ???" Can't remember the whole name but it was very good. It's Fried Green Tomatoes smothered with Tiny Fresh Shrimp, Sauted Bacon & Scallions with Three different cheeses and some sort of spicy sauce!!! It's delicious highly recommend!! Tony ordered a large draft Budweiser Light and I had my usual Half-Half Iced Tea with Lemon and Lime. Service was amazing and ambiance was very nice. Alas, I had high hopes, but the service on this slow night was even slower. Server forgot to bring my drink. Grouper was cooked incorrectly and was dry and barely warm as if it basked under the heat lamp for a while. We love the new atmosphere of the reopened Tropical Trader 2.0. The food is as good or better than before. 5 stars for both of those. However, there is a lack of the staff working together for the benefit of the customer. Many of the helpers i.e. the hosts, the clearers of tables, the ones who bring your silverware don't really help the waitresses make sure things are going well for the customers. If you get a good waitress it makes all the difference. There are many good ones but sometimes because of the relaxed atmosphere you don't receive your food in a timely manner, they don't refill your water or drinks quickly, and they forget to bring extras like sauces and condiments. Over all we would recommend Tropical Trader 2.0. The new build is fantastic and they are friendly. The food is amazing. read more

Food is good the price is not measured up to the standard. Judging the price paid, we expect to be a lot better. But in this place is very remote area, I think you cannot complain what you can get. I got the blackened flounder. It come with one side of choice and hush puppy. I got their collard greens. The blackened is not Cajun style. I like sweet and spicy blackened. Fish is fresh. Went back for the first time since they reopened and was very pleasantly surprised. New fresh look with spacious restrooms. The service was great. And then the food came out. I ordered a whole flounder and my friend ordered blackened shrimp. It was some of the best seafood we've had in a long time. Very fresh--not frozen. Great food and service but one star rating. Why? Well let me tell you. The owners. They have decided to add a permanent "service fee" onto every bill . I was told it was for credit cards but I was paying cash and asked if it would be removed. NO! Owner said it was too much trouble. This is surely impacting tips for the waitress. Impeccable service, good food and decent drinks! We started with the cheese sticks and the shrimp queso! Both were yummy, our daughter loves cheese sticks and these were among the best ever! We couldn't visit without getting the low country boil and it's definitely enough to split! My husband, my 12 year old son and I shared the platter and there was plenty! We were pleased with the flavor of the seafood but the potato was undercooked and the sausage was just ok. Unfortunately there were multiple flies that visited throughout the meal, we wanted to sit inside because we didn't want to be bothered by bugs on a humid Florida night. The tropical trader is a hidden gem! This restaurant was delicious and cute. What made it even better was that its patio is dog friendly. I started my first spring break (I'm a teacher) lunch with a Painkiller. I feel like it is a perfect spring break drink. Let's be honest; I drink it year-round as it makes me think of sunshine and the beach. We ate every last bite of our two delicious meals. We ordered their famous shrimp tacos, which did not disappoint, and the traditional grouper sandwich. The grouper was blackened and so tender. The sauce they put on the sandwich did not require the tarter sauce I had asked for. The shrimp tacos were yummy, too, with an excellent drizzle of yum yum sauce. We would love to come back when the tiki bar is open; maybe they will have live music. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again. read more

Only about 6 patrons were inside when we walked in for lunch. We sat as far away as possible. Sign on door did say occupancy was limited to 23 patrons per CDC guidelines. No one had masks on, except for the young woman who gave us our menus. Our waitress, no mask, took our order: broiled grouper sandwich (said all fish is local) on wheat bun with side of coleslaw, and husband ordered fried popcorn shrimp with French fries. Our waitress was sweet, efficient, and good at her job. We used the bathrooms to wash our hands before our meal was delivered. Each is for one person. Mine had everything (toilet paper, soap, paper towels). Husband's had no paper towels. A roll of paper towels was outside both bathrooms. My grouper sandwich was outstanding! If you like grouper, do yourself a favor and get it here. I loved my sandwich. In fact, I ate most of it without bun and condiments. I wanted to savor every bite. The coleslaw was okay - watery instead of creamy - and it was good. I ate it all! Husband liked his meal. It was not as good as mine, but it WAS good. The mild tater sauce and cocktail sauce are the best we've had. They make it here. No wonder! Husband shared hush puppies with me. Very tasty. French fries tasted fresh and crunchy. Once again I'm withholding one star for pandemic precautions not taken. I'm venturing out even though I have pre-existing conditions, with fingers crossed that I stay healthy. Today's meal was definitely worth the risk of "no required masks." I'm going to be dreaming about this place tonight. read more
