The blackened preparation was truly special, with the right amount of spice and flavor. The vegetables could've been more creative, but the fresh broccoli, carrots, green beans, and pepper were appreciated. The sweet tea is real (not that Sweet Peak slop other restaurants have been slinging around). The hush puppies were among the best I've ever tasted. The interior could be improved upon, made more comfortable without losing the authenticity. However, I didn't deduct a star because it's exactly what you would expect. Full disclosure, the poseys are related to my family. I do not know if the original family still owns this restaurant, but I stopped in on my family memory lane tour. We have passed this restaurant many times and never noticed the RV Parking across the street. We decided to give it a try. It is what I would call your typical FL seafood dive! Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is amazing. I think my shrimp slept in the gulf last night. The catfish was also delicious. Like someone else said you need to try the fried food. The batter is light and tasty. It is very loud in there and most of the tables are for six. It took only 20 mins. from the time we sat down to get our food!! We chose Posey's because their prices seemed the most reasonable and they offered the choice of fried, grilled and blackened. We had one landlubber who went with a burger. It was substantial and well dressed, but served well done. Ketchup was required to get the job done. I went with a combo plate. Starting with a side salad that consisted of a little lettuce, a cherry tomato (yes-one), a cucumber slice (yes-1), a few slivers of onion and a few shreds of carrots. Not impressive. My lunch was blackened gulf scallops, shrimp and grouper. The scallops & shrimp were drenched in butter negating the "healthier" alternative to fried. The grouper, however, was superb. I'd order the grouper dinner in a flash. It was that good. The fried shrimp & catfish platter was also quite good. I'd guess that 90% of Posey's meals are fried and accordingly, they've got the fried stuff mastered. I'm not one for grits, but my crew said they were excellent. Service was prompt & attentive. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm a little annoyed I forgot to order Key Lime Pie for desert. After all, when in Rome.... The only negative? It's a dive. Loud. Dirty floors. Filthy bathrooms. Sticky tables. The locals may accept this; but I couldn't get my wife back to Posey's on a dare. read more

I was on the way back from the Worm Gruntin Festival in Sopchoppy and was intrigued by the name Panacea. After a small driving tour through the village and a stop at the Wakula Welcome Center, I stopped for lunch. Saturday afternoon is a busy time at this place, but it's worth the wait. From the long list of delicious looking food, I chose the grilled shrimp off the lunch special menu. A huge portion of perfectly grilled shrimp was served up with good coleslaw, the lightest hush puppies ever, and cheese grits. The cheese grits were a first for me ... something new. Seriously y'all, I had a dozen of the freshest, most delectable raw oysters I've ever eaten in my whole life!! I may be from Tennessee, but I'm well traveled and have eaten my share to compare. I also had 3 clusters of snow crab legs, and a bowl of gumbo. Hubby and I shared all except the gumbo. I'd end up with heartburn so bad that my shirt may catch on fire. Did I mention that for the next week I will be traveling by Yelp reviews? So thanks to everyone that writes the reviews, photos of menus makes my decision much easier.
