What an experience! My husband and I ended up on the west side of the island the other day and decided to go horseback riding. I grew up around horses, but it was my husband's very first time riding. We both had an absolute blast. The ranch was easy to find, parking was simple, and the staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we arrived. The process starts with signing a waiver, getting weighed, and being matched with the horse that's best suited for you. It takes a few minutes, but for good reason. they really take the time to make sure everyone is paired safely, so be patient. It's absolutely worth it. Once you're in the saddle, the ride takes you through all kinds of terrain paved roads, beautiful forest trails, and even the beach. There are a few narrow, winding paths that make the ride feel adventurous while still feeling completely safe. We even got to spend some time trotting, which was such a fun experience, especially for a first-time rider. My husband was thrilled to pick up the pace, and our guide made him feel comfortable and confident the entire time. A huge thank you to Carolina, our guide. She was absolutely stellar. She is friendly, kind, patient, and so easy to talk to. She kept conversation going throughout the ride and made an already amazing experience even better. I have been horse back riding before, but have never been horse back riding on the beach. It was quite the experience, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. My friends and I had every intention of purchasing tickets online in advance but it slipped our minds. By the time we decided on going, and with the slight traffic that there was, we would make it there with only a couple minutes to spare. We tried purchasing our tickets online, but the website told us to call (most likely since we were so close to the time slot). When we called, they answered immediately. They were understanding of our situation and informed us that if we could make it there before 3:30, they could try to settle us into the slot. We sped there and made it at 3:15. They have a grass area for parking. One of the staff members helped us with filling out some forms, weighing us, and explaining some of the basic information. We used the bathroom before proceeding. Next, we were given horses based on height, weight, and experience. It was nice to see all the planning that goes behind the distribution of horses. They are really considerate towards the horses and make sure that the person and animal are a good fit. There were about 4 young people helping everyone onto the horses. I was originally given Godiva - like the chocolate - but later switched to Tonka - like the truck. We were split into two groups, mine led by Kiara. The experience truly does take the full 2 hours. It starts by going through a complex of very nice houses, then goes into a more woodsy environment, and then the beach. The beach was breathtaking. Our group stopped on the beach and Kiara offered to take group and solo pictures, and also made sure we were still comfortable on the horses and offered help if not. Sometimes, we'd get the horses to go fast on straight aways, and that brought me a lot of laughter and joy. My horse was a bit stubborn and did stop to eat multiple times. I was embarrassed that I could not control my horse, but the leaders were kind about it. The experience with taxes included was about $95 per person which I thought was fair and cheaper than some other ones around. I would highly recommend. read more

First time riding horses in the beach and it was amazing! After your waiver has been they actually weigh to make sure you're not too heavy for the horses. They help you into the horse and give you very good instructions on how to handle it. When I tell you it was so relaxing! I actually almost fell asleep lol The guide was wonderful. I had a nice time in Puerto Rico, but horseback riding here was by far the best part of my trip! I'm an experienced rider, but it had been 30 years since I last rode, and it felt great to be in the saddle again. I was given a silver horse named Smokey, and my husband had a bay horse named Galante. My husband was basically a first-time rider, and the guide looked after him and the other beginners. The horses appear to be healthy and well-cared for; they are Paso Finos or mixes and smaller than most horses in the mainland. So, the weight limit is understandable and something to be aware of. Our ride started in a ritzy residential neighborhood, then went to a meadow path and led to the beach. We went on another forested path to enter the beach again. After resting the horses for about ten minutes, we took another trail back. I loved every minute of it, and my husband did pretty well. The ranch is not easy to find. We discovered that Google maps is more effective here than the map function that comes with your I-Phone. read more

I enjoyed horseback riding on the beach and that they let us get our pictures in on the beach. I was somewhat scared riding on my horse whiskey, she is the most bouncey horse when trotting. I was not aware of this when they assigned me her. I was screaming the whole time each time I was trotting. My foot even came out of the foot rest (stirrup) and I was so scared I was going to fall off my horse while trotting and hit my head. And in that moment I wished they gave us helmets for our safety. There was a lot of invasive iguanas/ reptiles in the forest. I wished we got more trail time on the beach though, the view was exceptional. If you pay in cash you can get 2 hours of riding for $70. Try to pick up a mango or two for your horse after your ride ends, they love the mangoes by the end of the trail there. The workers/ owner allowed us to do that since the horses do it on their own too read more

We drove 2.5 from Loiza to Aguadilla just for this and it was worth it. The views were beautiful and our horses were sweet and followed the pack. I had the pleasure of riding Ginger and my favorite part was when we would ride fast through the woods and had to dodge the branches. I had such a good time riding horses here. I recommend this place. We picked the two hour trail. You have to pre-book it. It comes with a guide. They are very professional and knowledgeable. I would advise to follow the pre instructions. They will give you a recomendations on how to dress for the ride. I would follow it. It is a nice trail. You go through grass and canopies of tree. It is so relaxing and beautiful. They then take you by the beach too. It is a secluded beach i think they called it survivors Beach. They gave the horse a little break halve way the trails. We where able to have some horse time pet and take pictures at this time. It is a good time to drink water. I had a great experience. The horses are so gentle and well behaved. Oh, if there were an option to give this place negative stars, I would happily indulge. The woman running this operation is not only the poster child for unprofessionalism but also a masterclass in rudeness and outright condescension. She singlehandedly managed to ruin our day--and, might I add, a chunk of our vacation--so kudos for that. Let me break it down for you: we made reservations for myself, my sister, her husband, and their two kids--an 8-year-old and a 6-year-old. Fully aware of the age requirement, we came prepared. Or so we thought. Upon arrival, this delightful woman immediately pounced, declaring that my niece and nephew's closed-toed hiking sandals weren't sufficiently closed. Apparently, a few side vents were the equivalent of wearing flip-flops. We improvised, with my brother-in-law and me sacrificing our socks to appease the almighty gatekeeper. Another employee helped us with paperwork and payment, so we thought we were finally in the clear. But no, Her Majesty stormed over to interrogate my six-year-old nephew like she was conducting a criminal investigation. He's a sweet, special kid who, unsurprisingly, got nervous with this towering, condescending woman firing off questions to him. But the pièce de résistance? She demanded proof of his age. When we didn't have documentation (because who carries their kid's birth certificate on vacation?), she had the nerve to suggest we scour social media to find proof. Excuse me? When we couldn't provide documentation, my brother-in-law left with my nephew. As if that wasn't ridiculous enough, while the rest of us were literally sitting on the horses, the woman approached me, demanding my brother-in-law sign the receipt before we could ride. I explained he had already left, and my sister asked if he could sign it later when he came back. Naturally, the answer was "no." So, mid-mount, we had to pay with another card and sign the receipt on horseback. Absolute lunacy. Let's not even discuss the absurdity of still being charged for my brother-in-law and nephew under their "cancellation policy." We didn't cancel. We were forced into this situation because proving a child's age wasn't on our vacation checklist. Oh, and the icing on the cake? The guide wore Croc sandals, and the rude woman herself was traipsing around in flip-flops. Hypocrisy much? To top it all off, let me address the laughable assumption that age and grade are somehow universally aligned. My son, a junior at one of the most prestigious colleges in the U.S., is 21, nearly 22. So yes, it is possible for ages to vary, despite your apparent disbelief. Here's a tip: I completely understand your establishment having insurance requirements; however, when dealing with paying customers and their children on vacation, perhaps try using a tone that doesn't reek of disdain. Your behavior was beyond disrespectful, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Learn some basic manners. read more

The trail in the Forrest and beach view is so beyond beyond. The horses listen and are well taken care of. They do a mid point stop, highly recommend bringing water with you. It is two hours but so worth it. My horse was Alamo..a wonderful male horse. read more

Booked a private trail ride with friends 24 hours in advance. Filled out all the paper work and paid. The checkin process was weird, you're at a house and no one greats you or says anything. Even though you're already charged you have to show the card with ID, which we didn't know. Showed up to do the ride and they weigh you on this really janky scale that never really resets to 0. You have to be weighed in with everything you bring, backpacks, water, jackets, camera equipment and if it's over 250 lbs including yourself by even 1 pound they deny you and don't offer a refund. I understand it's for the horses, but the lady was telling me they end up turning away people every day, without a refund. That's the part that is messed up. So if you are even close to 250 lbs before any clothing or gear don't go! The scale is not accurate. There are no ifs, ands, or buts, or redos. read more

Tropical Trail ride was absolutely outstanding! I had called around a bunch of different venues to see if they offered experienced riders the ability to do more than walk on the trail ride. Michelle with tropical trail ride said absolutely we do and booked us on a private ride with wrangler Doug. This has by far been the best trail ride I have ever done. My husband and I got to walk, trot, and do lots and lots of loping along the trail and on the beach stopping to give our horses a good rest while we lazed around in the rock pools looking at the beautiful fish and enjoying a lovely cool down. Our wrangler, Doug, was so much fun! He made us feel very at ease, gave great instruction, and made sure we had an excellent time and got what we paid for. The facility itself is beautiful, and it is very clear that the horses are very loved, and very well cared, for. I would absolutely come back to this place again, and again. We had an amazing experience! We recommend coming here but maybe next time we would try somewhere else. The only complaints I have is that the owner is a bit rude. She made a comment about me being 5 minutes late even though no one was on their horses and we still waited about 25 minutes before we even got on a horse. Another issue we had was that the ride on the beach was only 5-10 minutes the rest is in the woodsy area which is still very nice but we expected more beach ride time. For $80 a person before tax if using card it is crazy the guides asks for a tip! Overall great horse experience would recommend you try this place. read more

Trail ride was interesting, diverse, and included a fair amount of trotting. The guides were clear and we always felt very taken care of. Hands-down one of our best excursions thus far in Puerto Rico. It is very evident that the horses at this ranch are very much loved and well taken care of. As a first time rider I immediately felt as ease on my horse due to her gentile nature - again, evident that she is well cared for. Our guide Sara was wonderful and easy to tell that she loves what she does. The 2hr ride was just amazing as we rode on beaches as well as through the forest. The ranch owner Karen and her family run a wonderful operation and personifies the small business owners that have been impacted by the hurricane. They've managed to pick themselves up, rebuild their lives and continue on. This is how we as tourist can begin to help Puerto Rico, by supporting these small business owners who offer an excellent product/service. We will absolutely be back soon for another ride! read more

We totally enjoyed our horseback riding experience at Tropical Trail Rides. The scenery is breathtaking. We went thru a wooded area and walked up a hill that opened up to the most amazing views of the beach and ocean. The mix of sun and shade on this experience is perfect. Our guide Albert was friendly and shared his knowledge, with us, about, Puerto Rico, the beach we were on, the horses and the plants that we saw. This was my sons first time on a horse and he had no issues. The team at Tropical Trail Rides, totally prepared us for the experience. A group of friends and I went to Tropical Trail Rides for a 3:00PM ride last week. Unfortunately, because of seasonality, it was $50 per person. Did we enjoy the ride? Yes! But could it have been better? Definitely. The trail was fun and the experience was novel and enjoyable. Riding horses on the plains, some simple trails, and on the beach! It's as amazing as it sounds. The problem were the horses. For some reason, we got horses that were not very obedient. One of my friends got bruised from her horse taking a left instead of a right on the trail. Several of my friends got horses that were old and didn't listen to their guidance and kept lagging behind. Several of my friends got horses that were younger and nervous and easily spooked and excitable. Maybe it's because we had a party of 11, so they had to use horses that they usually don't use... but some of those trail horses should not be put on the trail. Personally, my horse was also coughing the whole time -- poor Misty. read more

Myself and my 11-year old son did the Tropical Trail Rides 2-hour beach ride and were very impressed with everything, including the price of $45.00. This is a very professional business that does not overcharge like so many horse-riding places do. The actual ride was the best horse ride I have ever had, and I have been riding horses since I was 8 years old. We rode through lush trails, a forest and on two different deserted beaches. Can't do those beach rides in the 50 states. The horses were all healthy, well-groomed, and were well-behaved. Of the seven people in the riding group, two were first-time riders. They were relaxed and did well. The female guide from Dallas, Texas was very sweet. My young horse, Calypso, was probably the best horse I have ever ridden. With him I could have been on automatic pilot the whole time. He knew everything to do, and where to go, and tried so very hard to do the right thing always. He was so conscientious it was very cute. (He thought he was one of those Spanish dancer horses - sshhh don't tell him he is not in Spain). The very nice owners let us stay parked at their ranch so we could walk down to the snorkeling beach about 100 yards away. The parking outside the ranch is almost non-existent for the very nice Shacks beach nearby, so that was much appreciated. read more

No matter where you are staying on the island this gorgeous 2 hour trail ride is well worth your time and money ($50). Amazing ocean front ride, the trail leading up to the beach was also nice with a lot of history from when the US Military occupied the area. The staff was super cool and at least for my group, we weren't just mushing along slowly. We had the opportunity to trout which you never get in the states. Will be back, every trip back!! read more
