Living in Nashville I've seen Emmy Squared several times in passing but still had not tried them out. Some family friends from Huntsville swear by it and got it while staying with my mom in Bham, so we tried them out during my recent visit. I ordered us the Angel pizza. Had no idea Emmy's pizza was a Detroit style, which I love! The Angel comes with Ricotta, truffle cream, mushrooms, parsley pesto- all good things. The pizza was good and we enjoyed but this flavor was probably just a little too much cream so I'd check out another flavor next time or build my own. I could use more of a red sauce base for Detroit style. Did takeout from The Summit- was mostly quick in and out. Hot, Freshly made and the crispy edges I adore. I like how their two sizes are listed on the website as sixer and tener. It's def not cheap but I guess not horribly priced either. With multiple locations in Nashville maybe I'll try them again eventually, or just default to my favorite, Jets, again which is close to home. But if you want somewhere with Detroit style pizza to go sit down and dine, Emmy Squared can be your move. read more

solid Detroit style pizza! We got the Quinn pizza, which had a white sauce, but made it a Miranda, which added hot honey and bacon. It's an upcharge but I think it was worth it. The service was pretty good, it didn't take long for our pizza and it was semi-busy. This is our second time coming here and we definitely had a better experience this time. Stopped here with my nephew for lunch. I didn't know prior to going but Just know it's Detroit style only, no other crust option, but they do it well. The pizza regular looks small, but it's thick and filling. A few slices and you're good. We did the pepperoni and the Good Paulie. Both were really flavorful but the Good Paulie was def my fav. We got the regular size and still had leftovers. We did a half order of the Zia fries, which were more than enough for two. The Caesar salad was good, just a little heavy on the dressing. As for service, our server Drummond was nice and took good care of us. However, the hostess tried to seat us right next to a large group, like arm's length close. I asked for a booth and was told no because it was "busy," even though there was no wait. We ended up sitting at the empty bar, and the booth stayed empty the entire time. Honestly, my review for this place is pretty mixed. I had the Le Bleu burger and fries, and the burger is a mix of different meats, but it really lacked in flavor. It was really greasy and the bun was also kind of burnt. If I was going solely off of the burger, I'd give this place a 2/5. My friend got the Emmy pizza, and it was so good. I loved the sauce on top, and the crust was very fluffy and flavorful, I really wish I had gotten that instead. The burger was $19 and to add fries was $7 which I found to be incredibly high for the food I got. I will say, overall the food seemed really overpriced for the quality of food you got. If I went back, I would definitely stick with a pizza, but I'm not sure I would try this place again. read more

Came here to catch up with a friend. He had suggested to come here and been wanting to try it. I had never heard of it, but I'm glad he suggested it! He got the vodka pizza (vodka sauce, basil, and pecorino) and said it was really good. I got the angel pizza, and it was delicious. It had truffle mushroom cream, ricotta cheese, and mushrooms. I think it is now my favorite pizza in Birmingham. We both ended up eating all of our respective pizzas - it was that good. I would have liked it more if this pizza had a sauce, as it was very cheesy. The hot honey is a fun touch but there wasn't enough of it to make a difference. David L and I stopped in for lunch on Monday. We ordered the Roni Supreme, and we thought the pizza was very good. I would give the pizza a solid 4 stars. It's square shape and crust were unique. The crust is a thick Focaccia flatbread with a crispy crust and soft and chewy middle. The Roni has red sauce, mozzarella, pepperonis, and Calabrian chili. It was tasty, and the chilies gave it a nice little kick. We ordered the Asian Pickled Mushrooms as an appetizer because it sounded interesting. The dish is a combination of marinated mushrooms, onions, and cucumbers. This dish was not good. The mushrooms were so salty that they were inedible. The onions had a very strong fish sauce flavor. The cucumbers were okay because they were the closest to pickled. I would not recommend this dish. We had a late lunch, around 2:30. The restaurant was pretty empty, and wait service was okay. I was disappointed because there were two six top tables next to us that were not cleaned. The tables were empty and dirty when we arrived, and no-one came to clean the whole time we were there. I highly recommend getting a rez- especially if you're a party of four or more. We had 12 people and they graciously had our table ready right at our time. Everyone had a cocktail and I loved mine- Under the moonlight. All the apps are shareable. We tried the mozzarella sticks, garlic cheese bread and Brussel sprout salad. The cheese bread was our favorite although all were great. The salads are HUGE and could easily be a meal. Hubs and I got the Angel pizza and it was incredible. Enough for two people. The crust was crispy and all the toppings blended well together. My friend had the Ang and she ended up with two. I want to update that my girlfriends and I returned with a group of 6. Our reservation was useful as we were seated immediately. We ordered a bunch of things to share and we all tried different cocktails. Our drinks were great and a lot of fun. The bartender was a little overwhelmed but then again mixing 6 different cocktails takes a few minutes, so no points deducted for that. We ordered 2 of the Brussels sprouts salads, one with chicken, the marinated cucumbers (which we enjoyed so much we added in a second order of them), 2 pizzas, and an order of fries. The pizzas we chose were colony and a special that I believe had ricotta on it. We devoured and savored all of the dishes we ordered. No disappointments whatsoever! When it was all said and done we had a great feast with cocktails for a very reasonable price, in a picturesque environment with great service. Our waiter really took care to keep all of our orders straight. I have since made a to go order for the Brussels sprout salad with chicken that my friends and I still dream about. Emmy Squared Pizza is definitely an interesting name. I read on their website that it's because of their signature "square" shaped pizza. So now it made sense. They originally started up north in Brooklyn and bring to the south their Detroit-style pizza in a square share and signature sauces. Their website also reveals that their Le Big Matt burger was named best burger in Nashville. Located on the "other side" of the Summit, ESP has only been opened about 4 months. It's almost right next to Urban Cookhouse. After you pass thru their large mammoth glass doors, you are greeted to a posh modern contemporary style decor with bold dark colors and dim lighting. It is definitely a place I would go for a casual romantic meal. Their dining room is adequate with comfortable and beautiful accommodations with a nice full service bar. Paul C and I arrived for a late lunch to a rather empty restaurant so we were seated quickly. Our server arrived quickly. I thought about the mozz sticks, but we both agreed the Asian pickled mushrooms sounded interesting. It didn't take long since they were slow and dug right in. Unfortunately, the appetizer looked better than it tasted. The most appetizing portion were the fresh cucumbers. The pickled onions were ok but he marinated mushrooms were unedible. My hypertension appreciates a good salty meal, but those mushrooms were over the top. So the menu description of it being salted is spot on. The asian element of including some fish sauce was interesting but was also overwhelming. Their burger choices especially the Le Big Matt looked so inviting, but it was our first time here so we figured we better try one of their signature pizzas since it was a pizza place after all. When our Roni Supreme arrived, it was placed atop a special pizza holder which kept the rectangular shaped pizza cut into 8 small squares elevated about 12 inches above our table. It was warm and smelled delicious. This red sauce pizza was topped with a calabrian chili which I had never heard of, but it was definitely a chili with a distinctive kick. If you love to have your pizzas with jalapenos, you should definitely give this pizza a taste. The proportion of mozzarella cheese and miniature pepperonis were spot on. Crunchy on the outside with a soft and inviting in the middle, the square crust was spot on. It was burnt/charred in just the right places. That one pizza was just enough for two adults so if you have a larger party, consider getting two. I liked how they leave you a tall clear glass bottle of cool water to pour yourself. Our server Kat was attentive, but they must have been short on help that day because our 2 adjacent tables sat uncleared the entire time. If it wasn't for the mushrooms, this visit would've earned a 4 star. They are a pizza elevated with burgers, sandwiches and even a wings appetizer. I was VERY hesitant to come here after reading so many mixed reviews about the speed and quality of service and even attitudes. But I finally decided to give it a try and have not been disappointed. The well-decorated dining room was nearly full, so I figured this would be a good test of their speed and response time...and honestly I was geared up to leave if it went poorly. Overall, I was pleased with the timing of service throughout the visit. And the food was worth the experience. I had the dinner Caesar salad, which is quite large, and has great toppings - crumbled croutons and crumbled cheese similar to Parmesan but slightly different taste. For pizza, I had the Big Hawaiian - pepperoni, bacon, pineapple and chile glaze. The Detroit style pizza is a thick rectangle crust with a good balance of toppings and crispy crust. Very tasty and mildly spicy! Pricy but good! I came back for lunch the next week with a co-worker. This is the steal value-wise at Emmy Squared, by the way! We sat at an outside table surrounded by flowers and plants that hid the nearby parking lot and shopping center environment. There were less guests on this visit, but service and food prep time were both timely. We both had the smaller lunch salad ($5) and pizza (also $5).
