Great outfitter! Did a half day on the Middle Provo and my dad and I caught several brownies. They hooked us up with all the gear we needed since we came in from out of state. We had never fly fished before and Aaron our guide showed us exactly how and where to cast to put us on fish. He really knew his stuff, and made the trip for us. There were a few other fisherman out, but with his knowledge we were the only ones who were catching fish. My girlfriend and I booked a one day trip on the Weber river with our guide Logan. We each caught 10-12 big fish and had the best time! Logan was knowledgable, polite, and very accommodating. He carried our poles, untangled our lines and showed us exactly how and where to cast. We moved about 3 times during the day and each place was beautiful and bountiful. Logan was so friendly, it felt like we'd made a good friend. He gave us his undivided attention and his main goal was to make sure we caught fish and had a good experience. Our guide Jerry was polite, knowledgeable and fun. He took my daughter and I out to the middle Provo River as 1st timers to fly fish. She caught 2 fish on her 1st outing, under 10 casts. He made her feel comfortable and as the day ran, more confident, he made sure our lines were clean of moss and it was a memorable day for all of us. Their return policy is lacking. You would be advised to ask them before purchase. They aren't really interested in serving local fisherman since they get so many tourists during the summers. Locals can do better than this place. Fly prices are on the very high side. read more

We hired Trout Bum2 per online reviews and had the best experience with our very knowledgable fly fishing guide named Ben. The gear was top notch. Ben was a great instructor and was ready with an extra rod if we tangled up. He changed weights and flies and took us to several spots where we caught about 15 fish between the two of us. Drove up to Mirror Lake in the Unitas area and caught some small brookies which were fun. TB2 has everything you need to flyfish, from a huge array of flies to rentals. As a local fisher-woman, I greatly appreciate the friendliness, knowledge, and helpful advice this store provides. Other stores (including larger sporting good types) can be condescending or protective of information. I have been fishing for over 15 years, but I am not too proud to know I am still learning. I am a better fisher because of them, so I buy my flies, licenses, and gear from them whenever I can. They do fishing! Specialty shops exist for a reason-especially this one. Maybe someday I will join them on a guided trip, but for now, they make my day trips more enjoyable. They also gave me honest advice on starting my daughter out. Aaron ensured that we had a phenomenal experience--he is a brilliant communicator and teacher, his passion for the sport is infectious, and he *really* knows all the ins and outs of fly fishing/the waters to which he took us. We ended up having such a good time (and caught so many fish) that we went out with him a second time, which was equally brilliant. What a rude and uninterested owner. Stopped into the shop while on vacation this week to inquire about a guide trip and buy a T Shirt. I asked the owner Chad if he had any long sleeved T-Shirts? His response " there may be some over there I'm not sure, you'll have to look." Wow, that's customer service! It's not like he was busy as he was discussing a guides girlfriend with another of his guides. Needless to say, we walked out and fished, and bought T-Shirt elsewhere. Awesome trip! Chris Passage was our guide and he was great...had my Dad and I catching fish in no time. We did a 4 hour tour and pulled out a bunch of fish, 4 over 15 inches. I started Fly Fishing this summer and have probably been into this shop 100 times. No joke. The first people in Park City who knew me by name were the guys at Trout Bum II! I walked in the front door and declared I wanted to learn to fish and they took it from there. Spending hours explaining gear, skills, reading a stream or how to tie a knot, their patience has never failed. The main reason to come to a local shop instead of Cabellas or Bass Pro is for the service and this is where Trout Bum II excels. From fixing broken gear to providing a loaner, and most importantly leaving my pride intact when I drove off with my rod on the roof of my truck, these guys have done it all! The loaner reel they gave me saved my whole season! I can't stress enough the benefits of heading by Trout Bum II if you are in the area. One last thing, which is important, is that these guys don't try to sell you the $950 rod if you are just starting out. They have them, they can get them, but they won't pressure you into buying every gizmo and gadget that you will never use, but don't know that yet. They will tell you where to scrimp and where to splurge and so far they haven't led me astray. read more

After searching around for a guide for my first time to the Provo River, I decided to go with the guys from the Trout Bum 2. After making a reservation over the phone I promptly received an email regarding my trip and was told my guide would contact me the day before. Sure enough I receive a call from Aaron on my way to the airport. He outlined his suggested plan to me and what to expect for the day. The next morning I arrived at the shop early so I could look around and was greeted by the Owner, another shop employee and the shop dog Hatch. All were very pleasant to talk to and were willing to help me. A short while later Aaron showed up and told me his plan for the half day trip. Needless to say Aaron was an outstanding guide. From the time we got to the water and setting up to when we finally parted ways at the end of our trip, he made sure I was satisfied with this trip. I had just got my tax return and went in there to buy the new Winston and I was holding it for 20 minutes finally I asked to cast it and the reply I got was do you know how much that rod is, went to western rivers and bought one there instead. Went back a while later to try on the Simms G4's and got the same response, I bought them online and was sure to wear them into the shop every time I went. If your not driving a Yukon or range rover and head to toe in Patagonia you might want to drive to SLC for way better customer service.
