We stayed here roughly three weeks ago and are coming back through - all the fabulous things about Tru are here - zoom pods and eggs to chill in along with a pool table and games in the lobby for the kids, breakfast, 24/7 coffee and tea and gym. This visit was beyond extraordinary, though. I picked up a terrible cough in Philly and sounded like I had a good mortician... The woman working Friday evening with dark hair took mercy on me and ran to the back, offering me honey and packets of green tea. I actually got to get a few hours of sleep - beyond grateful for her thoughtfulness and kindness. We're certain Amarillo will be a must stop on our next trek through - thank you Tru! read more

A brown recluse spider was a major red flag definitely not what you want to find in a hotel. The breakfast was mediocre at best, and the bed wasn't comfortable. While the location is convenient, the front desk staff didn't come across as welcoming or friendly. Overall, not a stay I'd choose again. Heading outside to walk our dog wasn't the most friendly location for pets. I think for the money spent on this room. You can spend a few more bucks and stay somewhere else with a lot better accommodations. I recommend having an exterminator come regularly. read more

First and foremost I booked a room for myself I'm a contractor and had some work to do in the area for a couple of days. I'm a Hilton Honors member. I usually stay at Hiltons because there's no surprises. Checked in went up to my room looked pretty comfy. Went down to the lobby' for ice machine is broken "waiting for parts" OUT OF ORDER SIGN" permanently attached to the machine. Stopped by for breakfast not very appealing so I left. 7:30 am came back to my room not cleaned went to the front desk and the lady told me they only clean the rooms every other day. I've stayed at Hiltons all over the country and NEVER SEEN THIS but they didn't even care. Over $100.00 a night but they don't clean the rooms. I guess I'll be staying somewhere else in Amarillo. read more

Clean, comfortable and kind!!! Quick easy overnight stay passing through on our way to CO. Room and lobby were spotless and everything smelled clean as well! It's not a BIG Hilton so don't expect big hotel amenities. I was honestly impressed with the amenities they DID have being as it's a smaller Hilton chain. Every TRU hotel is a passing through spot, not long term. Blake went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and appreciated as his own personal guest! He provided restaurant recommendations, always had a smile on his face when we passed through the lobby and was so helpful with our little requests. Would stay here again! We're part of the Hilton family but always wanted to try a Tru hotel so we thought we'd give it a shot. The front desk was friendly and found the place super clean. Coffees available 24/7 at the entrance and bright and cheerful decor. Egg basket hanging chairs for the kids to play in while we checked in. Our census from our family of four: PROS: Modern and bright Clean Magazines available for free by the lobby Ample shampoo, conditioner, lotion dispensers Ample USB plug in ports CONS: Uncomfortable beds and pillows Missed the down comforters at other Hilton hotels Narrow rooms No drawers No desk (but a roll-away platform) Muffins tasted like cardboard Pancake machine was spewing pancake droplets Ice maker only on main floor We're glad we experienced the hotel but it just wasn't for us. We missed the comfy beds and the fluffy comforters. The $40 or so difference in price between another Hilton hotel is well worth paying for a better nights sleep. 2nd time at Tru by Hilton. This time in Amarillo. Same comments as my review on Tru in Wichita Tx except I picked a room on the top floor. This time quiet - no one stomping in the floor above. Friendly and helpful front desk staff - thanks to Chad. The only problem (not the hotel's fault) was a guest who checked into the room next to us at 10:30p and was so loud! Sounded like he was dropping a trunk against the wall - and not just once - banging something. It is unbelievable to me how inconsiderate people can be! read more

We typically stay in My Place Hotel during cross country treks through Amarillo but due to a Hilton promotion picked Tru this time. Since we were traveling west we chose this one because it was on the west side of town and near an Açaí bowl place we like to frequent. Sadly, it was a Monday and the açaí bowl place is closed on Monday's. It's a very minimalistic, but modern, hotel. Most people are just driving through Amarillo and need a place to just get a quick, good night's sleep and this fits the bill. If you're comparing hotels and this one's the cheapest, I say go for it. Pillows weren't the best, but we found that to be the case in practically all the Hiltons. There's no closet, just a bar to hang clothes on. Like I said, minimalist. The parking lot is a thoroughfare for people working on construction to the west of the hotel, so be careful backing out of your space, since the guys working on the construction don't really pay attention. We had a couple close calls, but that should subside once the western construction is completed. read more

Stayed here twice on my roadtrips to and from Colorado and this is my new go to! Love the location, it's super convenient. There are a lot of good easy food choices around - both walking and driving distance. The staff are super friendly here and so are the guests! Both times I stayed, the rooms were super clean. And while you do miss the carpet a bit, I'm happy to stay in a very dog friendly hotel. They even gave us a little welcome baggy with treats and a door hanger (saying a pup was inside and not to enter). The lotions and soaps are general dispensers in the room which is nice and eco friendly. They smell pleasant but very simple. Also loved the gym (they have a filtered water dispenser by the entrance). One thing to note here - the peloton unfortunately doesn't have the typical clip in shoe option. It's installed for different types of clip ins. But they do also have an option to not clip in which is great. The gym was super clean and had great equipment. Pros: Very simple and clean accommodations. The room is very basic and minimalist, but a clean design and modern looking. The staff was great. They were friendly, efficient, and provided good service. There's also a basic, free breakfast that is offered. The price of the room provided good value. Cons: The rooms facing the interstate are loud as was the fan in the bathroom and the heater/air conditioning unit (we turned it off at night). The room did not come with washcloths (not an oversight only for our room, but they don't put them in any guest rooms). If I stay here again, I'm bringing ear plugs. read more

Bright, clean and hip lobby. Easy check-in process. Everything feels new and fresh at first glance, but as you stay, you experience the cheap construction. Walls between rooms are clearly thin and not soundproof, as I could hear multiple neighbors at night. I do appreciate that the room floors are hard vinyl and not gross carpet like most hotels, though the floors in my room were not mopped that well (random blood drops on floor). Room has good ceiling lighting but there is no bedside table lamp. Hotel location is on the very edge of town and the road to approach it is a bit confusing. read more

1 year later... I'm back for a night. I still suggest staying here, but before you unpack, really do a deep inspection of the room and make sure it was actually cleaned. Nothing much has changed. The housekeeping here is really horrible. I had to change rooms because the toilet was disgustingly filthy and there was hair in the shower. While I was packing up my things to move to another room, a guest was trying to open my door because she was given a room key with the same room number. Management resolved my issues quickly, but it is such an inconvenience after a long drive. Coffee and breakfast snacks in the morning are much appreciated! Please do better with your housekeeping. Overall, this is a great place to stay (if the room has been properly cleaned) and location is convenient, especially for those passing through town seeking a comfortable, safe place to stay. read more

I read all the reviews, most were based on personal preferences. We had two different rooms and each room was clean and neat. The staff was super accommodating. We stayed on the 4th floor and people had barking dogs in the room next door. By 10 pm we had enough. We were moved to the other end of the floor. We stayed here by chance, due to the Hyatt next door not allowing cats- Our stressful experience was quickly resolved by the help of Kim at Tru by Hilton Amarillo West. She was able to find us a room immediately, said the cats are more than welcome, and made our stay absolutely spectacular. She truly went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed during our short stay. Even beyond helping us, she was always hard at work ensuring the lobby, guests, cafe, etc etc. were handled and taken care of. Kim is a true asset to this hotel and the Hilton company as a whole. It's true this hotel is new, the decor and interior look more geared toward millennials. Actually I think people say that just because they aren't used to contemporary minimalist style hotel. It's not that minimalist .. it's sufficient. The bed, bedsheets, pillow cover and the inside of the bed spread were very soft.. to the touch. 5/5 Customer service Jerad and Bobby John were outstanding 6/5... Jerad was great... went above and beyond what we expected and asked for. Hotel is brand new & clean but that's the only good thing. The front door doesn't work. There was nobody at the front desk during checking time. There is no coffee maker or microwave in rooms. Fit for fun, not function, for which I blame the corporate store designers, not the Amarillo property. The wide open lobby is great and the hotel rooms are Texas-size. We enjoyed the pancakes and yogurt with toppings in the breakfast bar, and the eating area was kept very clean. Some design elements are dumb: Light switch 5 feet from the door; dispensers that require big hands to squeeze out the soap or shampoo; 4 ceiling spotlights as reading lights above the 2 beds, all 4 on a single switch; long counter to hold the TV but too narrow for a workspace, and no chairs!; an ironing board but no coffee maker or ice bucket; shower door with no inside handle to shut the door; top covers on the bed that are scratchy.... In sum, the designs are colorful, modern and fun but clearly designed by someone with zero experience as a hotel guest. read more

We were in the pool and 10pm on a weekend rolled around and that's when they closed the pool area. A big man fully tattooed up rudely said "Get out of the pool" so we gathered our things and were heading out. Walking out I said you didn't have to be so rude about it and at that time his girlfriend that worked at the front desk walked over and mouthed off saying no "Alcoholic" beverages aloud which it said nothing like that on any sign.. only said no glass beverages. He ended up charging still more than what was said. Second I came into room and the remote was missing buttons and didn't work. I called room service 3 times. No answer. 4th time he answered; brought me remote. Went to take shower. No body wash. Only shampoo. Called a few times. No answer. Walked to the desk. He was there and no customers. A most disappointing unclean hotel I have ever stayed in. Staff wears mask in properly. The room as you will see from the photos had a crack in the shower with dried blood in the cracks very prominent could see with the naked eye from 6 feet away. The squeeze pump devices for the hand lotion was cake with dirt and dried hair. I showed photos to the agent at the desk the next morning. He said her manager would call me it is now three days later and the manager has not called me. Skip this hotel. read more

Always enjoy staying at Tru. This one was a little more "simple". The amenities were disappointing. The staff were friendly and the free breakfast was great! Our room however was not clean. There was hair in the shower, the floor hadn't been mopped and there was food left in the fridge from a previous guest. Front desk hospitality was on point and 10 stars for them! DON'T STAY HERE!!! We were robbed in the parking lot, no security camera. Want everyone to know how unsafe it is. Place is new. Room is as expected. Lack of security and security cameras will prevent my family from ever staying at this location and probably in Amarillo again. We had our uhaul trailer stolen and broken into. The thieves were well prepared with bolt cutters. Be warned: there are NO EXTERIOR CAMERAS at this location for the TRU or the HYATT Place in the same parking lot. There is only one entry/exit but it is not monitored. No security officer watching the parking lot. Our trip for our family of 7 (for a week to visit family and ski for a few days) is on the brink of ruin. We have been "Grinched". The trailer was dumped less than two miles down the road. Police report is in. We asked about filing a report with the hotel and the manager Danielle couldn't care less and didn't even try or offer any options. The un-helpfulness and whole set-up makes this look like an inside job--wouldn't put it past these people to have called a "friend" with info about our trailer. It was too convenient for thieves or employees looking to make bucks on the side. Disgraceful. Disgusting. Unsafe. Never again. I volunteer to bring patients for medical care. In a period of 8 days, I had a total of 16 room nights here. During one stay, I asked if we could eat take out food socially distanced in their lobby. The front desk clerk said she felt certain that would be OK, then came back on the line sounding scolded - as she said "I'm sorry sir you may not come into our lobby after you have checked out". In the name of public health and precaution, I said I understood completely and would be back in a day or so on the next trip. Ughhh. The next trip. One guest became ill on the day of travel and I called the hotel to report the change. The manager was unyielding and offered no concession of compassion. For perspective, I own a hotel and personally deal with both policies and circumstances on a regular basis. This one just stunk from the beginning. I arrived with a sour taste in my mouth from the call to the manager. Liz was sincere and friendly welcoming and checking us in, and I could see the managers note about my "LATE CANCEL!" on a spiral notebook behind the counter. Again, Liz said "well I hope all goes well with your stay" and we went upstairs (4 rooms). After staying somewhere a few times, the shortcuts become apparent. The hot water pipes BANG and RATTLE like someone knocking on the door or hallway. Cheaply and quickly built. Then I heard a clunk in the night, which was my charger that fell out of the loose outlet by the bed. We left for the clinic at 7:00am. There was some kind of theft or other drama that played out in the parking lot - a white truck erratically speeding towards the street, rubber burning on the inch thick frozen fog. It was 22 degrees with wind howling, and a man came screaming wearing only boxer shorts shouting frantically and running for his life to catch the escaping truck. The shirtless pants-free man was also bare footed, and he seemed to have sprinted so desperately that he needed emergency care. Another man was more dressed but decidedly less fit - he was unable to run. The two female senior citizens I was bringing for medical care were both afraid of potential gunfire and ducked into the car with heads down below the windows. We drove off into the fog. In shock. We left our questions behind. We returned around 10:00am to find ambulance and other emergency vehicles at the door to the lobby. Again, my traveling companions were afraid the first responders had come for something that had escalated from the high speed chase after we left. We just needed to get a few things and check out. None of the drama mattered, no matter how curious it might be. Nothing prepared us to walk into the lobby with the floor pooled with raw sewage and a very focused housekeeper frantically pushing a mop trying not to make eye contact. No one greeted us when we walked into the lobby. Wearing double masks, it took a moment for me to take stock and formulate the words "is that the stench of raw sewage I smell?". I felt like I was in The Twilight Zone. No answer from staff. Again I asked "can you confirm for me that I am smelling human feces that are being mopped up - and I have to walk through this with my patients to get to our rooms?". I'm sorry, but by that point I had no more good humor or tolerance or "benefit of the doubt" left within my human capacity. I asked the rude manager if she managed any other Hilton properties in Amarillo, because I would like to continue considering Hilton while avoiding "Tru by Hilton Amarillo" on my next visit - coming up tomorrow! read more

My husband and I spent the night at this Tru in Amarillo. I've been a Hilton Honors member for years but have never stayed in a Tru before. Probably never will again. The hotel is very minimalist. Rooms are small and bare bones. No nice amenities. Soap and shampoo are in big dispensers mounted on the bathroom and shower walls. I found the dispensers hard to squeeze and was glad I had my own stuff. No closets. Has only pegs on the wall. No place to put your suitcases, so we used the desk area, which rendered it useless. The sink in the bathroom did not drain properly, so we brushed our teeth in the shower. We didn't discover the problem until bedtime and we decided to live with it, as we were only spending one night. Very tiny refrigerator in the room. We had to use our ice chest because not everything fit in the fridge. There wasn't an ice bucket in the room. The only Ice machine is on the 1st floor. (We were on 2nd floor). There was a stack of open buckets on top of the ice machine. I was a little unsure if the hotel reused them. Didn't seem too sanitary. No coffee maker in the room. Personally I like to have coffee when I get up and do not want to get dressed and go to the lobby. When we were ready to leave at 6:00 am, there were no luggage carts available. The desk clerk said some other guests took them to their rooms at night so they would have them in the morning. Consequently, we had to make several trips to get our stuff down to the car. I'm 72 and my husband is 75. We were pretty pooped after all that. On a positive note, the desk clerk was very friendly. My take on the hotel is that this is a hotel that caters to younger people on a budget. Even though the bed was king sized, the room was tiny and difficult to maneuver around. We were advised about it (cancel with full refund) but decided to stay since Oklahoma also had strong winds advisory as well. Going to have to give this place 2 stars. The room, comfortable enough, I suppose. AC was good, bed was a bit hard, linen was thin, and pillows were flat. For a newer hotel, I was expecting something a little more. The toiletries come in squeeze containers, which, I see what they are trying to do; however, squeezing these things was so difficult!! As for breakfast, don't waste your time. One girl was taking out the trash and trying to keep up with it all. She was trying, but just overwhelmed. Whether the donuts, the oatmeal, the brown sugar, the eggs or sausage, it was out at some point while we were there cutting breakfast short. Everything was plastic or paper, and really just a bit annoying. I couldn't stir my oatmeal without my spoon almost breaking!! Overall, happy we only stayed one night. May I recommend something more than just 2 Nestle waters for your Hilton Honors members, also? read more

I stay in hotels quite a bit and I'm pretty picky about quality. I usually book a higher end but decided to try Tru. I'm so glad I did! Everything I really want and need was here. Lots of hooks to hang clothes. A 24h fitness center, big flat screen TV, nice showers, lovely lotions and cleansers... Nice breakfast. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful! Jared is an excellent manager with a hands on approach and a great team behind him. In the morning, my daughter and I couldn't find an available luggage cart and he even went out in the parking lot to find one for us! Clean rooms... would definitely stay again! read more

We checked in late about 10pm. The reasons I give it two stars are; the gentleman behind the front desk was polite and friendly with his smiles especially for the hour it was which was refreshing. The lobby was really nice with very modern look and feel along with the game area. We arrived to the room which was clean, not too big and not too small enough for us to stay the one night. Again it's modern the photos online are all true including the wood floors. What I really didn't like was the fact that there was a door adjoining to the room next door which I wasn't expecting at all. I could see the light on and the shadows of the neighbors next door which was weird. The walls were so thin I could hear their conversations as if I was sitting in the room with them. Not to mention a child running back and forth on the floor above us. I just felt we had to whisper so much to avoid our conversations being heard. Luckily the AC/HEAT unit was loud if it was turned on so we purposely left the fan option on so we could white out the running and talking of neighbors and room above us. I didn't get that best of sleep because of the thin walls. I had high hopes for the new Tru by Hilton but the modern looks don't trump a good nights sleep for me. I won't be returning. read more

Very simple but clean accommodations. What made our stay so special was the minimalist but inviting lounge area ( with social distancing) and the kindness and courtesy of Jonathan and Jerad while we were there. They exemplify great customer service and the Hilton company should be very proud of them. The fantastic added bonus was the active prairie dog town out back. Loved everything about this EXCEPT for the front desk clerk. He wasn't accommodating or polite when I made the reservation by phone, OR when we arrived in person. He acted very annoyed and didn't want to be there. We were scared and reluctant to even ask him questions. Besides that, the morning staff were amazing, and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. I don't know why there were so many reviews about the beds being uncomfortable, for our beds were rather comfy. VERY spacious with lots of room to set your suitcases upon. There's even storage under the beds! Loved that there wasn't any of that ancient, musky, sour pee, flee-infested, worn-out throw-up carpet that it's ALL hotels Loved the smell and textures of the lotion and soaps! I really loved the design of the shower and how spacious and organized everything was! I can tell that they take very well care with the cleaning! Oh!
