Don't normally write bad reviews unless it's an absolute horrible experience, so here we go. First: Checkin took 30 min, the clerk seemed confused. Said my room type was oversold and asked if I could be flexible to change, so I agreed. Second: was on the 8th floor, and only 1 of 3 elevators worked. Needless to say that wait was forever, every day. Third: On my third night, the only working elevator was in "test" mode, according to the manager and was off limits, with no answer of when testing would be completed. So I walked 8 flights of stairs.....got my steps in! Fourth: received my bill via email on the morning I checked out, when I was already at my office and was overcharged by $300, due to the room type change. That was not explained to me when the room type was changed at check-in. And what is more odd as the fact that the room type was a downgrade, and I was still charged more! Fifth: I tried calling the hotel to work out. The wrong charges in the hotel. Phone line was busy, just received a busy signal. So I had to go back to the hotel in person to dispute the charges. Sixth: the hotel manager listen to my explanation and honored my original charge, which was the right thing to do. After I went ahead and told her the other issues of the hotel, she said she would just get those fixed and never apologized. The entire time I was here with all of the challenges not one staff member actually said "I'm sorry". I will never stay here and I would never recommend anyone to stay here. It's not harsh for me to say that this place operates like a joke. read more

We make a point of stopping at this hotel every year on our trip from Houston to Colorado. It's clean, well located, and has a pleasant bar/cafe. David gave us a warm and friendly welcome at check-in. As our reserved room wasn't ready, he upgraded us to a suite. We only discovered the upgrade upon entering the room, which was a lovely surprise. Also, bonus points to this Courtyard--fresh cookies in the lobby were a lovely touch! read more

We stay at Marriott Courtyards often, this by far is the worst 30 minutes to check in, only 3 people in line and only one new person helping check-ins. None of the apps worked on TV, tv channels buffered so bad it was unwatchable. Nobody at hotel could help and just said I had to live with it. Amazingly bad service. read more

Stayed here for a night the front desk was very friendly they have Starbucks, which is awesome as well as breakfast but it was a little pricey, but delicious our room was very nice and comfortable. The view wasn't the best we had a view of another garage. We are downtown which is awesome and has a bunch of restaurants and places to go check out. The lobby was nice has a big TV and NFL was showing so that's awesome. I definitely would stay here again. No pool but has a board room game room?? Not sure what that is I didn't have time to check it out. this place is more of a business not family, but I did have my kids and it was comfortable. read more

Very nicely refined older building. In a charming part of Amarillo with red brick paved roads and a string of lights hanging from building to building. Staff was very courteous. Rooms were comfortable. Pretty much the Marriott standard. I arrived at almost midnight and checked out pretty early on a cross country trip the family and I are taking. So I didn't really see much of the hotel or it's amenities which I'm sure was limited due to the covid pandemic. read more

Great old hotel that is now a Courtyard by Marriott. Didn't know that this brand did that, but it was a nice remodel. The lobby was just old school cool. We scored a corner room up high with great views and it was uber clean. On the down side, we waited 5 minutes to check in because the clerk was talking to her boss. Isn't the customer supposed to be the boss? That pulled it out of the epic customer service category. I was just a bit peeved. I loved the layout of the room. Finally a bed that faces the TV! Great open space and all the things you would expect in a room. The only wonky-ness was the size of the toilet. Like, I'm not a big guy, but it was hard to fit my front/back self when sitting on it. I don't think I've seen a toilet that size since I had to use the facilities at my sons' elementary school. Final thing that was off is that there are a LOT of transient people who hang out in their adjacent parking deck that does not have an elevator. I'm decently fit for an old guy, but because of all the large trucks - expect to hike up 3 flights to get your car. You were warned. Pro-tip: Park in their "check in" parking to pack your vehicle on the way out. read more

The general Manager Cheryl is lacking in customer service and the etiquette of hospitality. The staff follows her direction in rudeness. We began our journey to this location by calling them directly for reservations, we were greeted with rudeness over the phone. After ending that conversation, we took a chance and tried the Marriott Hotel reservation line, which greeted us with excellent customer service. Verifying we would have an 8th floor view and booking our reservation. Upon arrival shortly after 3pm, we were greeted with "sorry your room is not available, it is not clean". When we asked when it would be ready we were told "we don't know"? There was no friendliness in the answers no offers of resolution and ZERO customer service. When we requested a manager that's when we met Cheryl, General Manager with an attitude. Cheryl informed us that she could give us any room she wanted not what we were guaranteed in reservations. We asked how long it take for our room to be available she she said "I don't know." At this point we had been in the lobby almost an hour trying to check in. We had arrived at 3:08 which check in time was 3 pm. When we asked for a refund so we could go elsewhere, Cheryl, promptly charged our credit card without our consent (at a HIGHER booking price then our original reservations) She then informed us there was no refund. We then asked for our hotel key for the room she charged us for, we were REFUSED!!! They refused to give us the keys and then they ignored us. We were left without a hotel room, and we were out the money for the hotel room. No honest effort was made by the General Manger Cheryl to accommodate us and resolve the issue. We currently have an escalated claim with Marriott to resolve this situation in hopes of getting our money back for a room we were refused keys on and did not use, not to mention the lack of hospitality. I would not recommend this location until the General Manager has been properly trained in Hospitality and Customer service or is replaced with a more suitable manager. This was not a positive experience and I would hate for travelers to go through this in the future should this management team stay in charge. read more

They have food you can order in the front (but you can only pick it up/eat there) and the only confusing thing was they had two hotels operating in one building but it was easy to find the room so that was a plus. I come to Amarillo for work and have stayed here a few times. Since I travel Nationwide over 1/2 the year, I have status with Marriott. This Courtyard is highly unusual in that they are extremely suspicious of anyone using any type of discount code. Be prepared, bring your blood type, DNA, finger prints...this place wants nightly rate and to hell with your discount. On several occasions I've seen the front desk investigating ID's and declining reservations and offering a much higher rate instead. They have a handy laminated sheet outlining all their "acceptable" forms of ID, it's quite an uncomfortable scene to witness. Considering this place is old, run down, neglected and in friggin ghost town Amarillo, I'm not sure why they're not more welcoming to any and all reservations. Be happy we're here and not anywhere else! One thing for sure: I've NEVER heard them say, "Thank you for your loyalty". Staff is mostly nice, the gestapo style welcome is likely orchestrated by the GM, as I overheard one front desk apologetically explained as he declined a reservation. It is a sad and uncomfortable situation but fortunately I don't have to come here often to experience it and do not look forward to coming back to experience unwelcome guests. read more

My husband and I sent one night here and I really liked the room and location. We had been driving for a while so was tired and hungry. The front desk staff was very courteous and welcoming. The cookies in the lobby were delicious! Great location - restaurants in walking distance. The room was very cozy and spacious. The room was also very clean! We had a room with a king bed. I liked the love seat and the big sized TV. It was comfortable to relax and watch TV and we got a great night sleep. Hotels beds are typically too soft for our liking but our bed was on the firmer side. We still prefer a more firmer bed but it was refreshing that it wasn't super soft. We will definitely stay here again when driving through Amarillo! read more

I've stayed at this particular hotel probably more than any other hotel I've ever stayed at. I travel quite a bit for business and have for the past 22 years and this is where I like to stay for many reasons. Easy access, friendly staff, clean rooms, covered parking, accommodating meeting room. I absolutely love the fact that they've renovated the old historic building into a Marriott. I really really really love this hotel. You may ask, "if you love it so much why did you give it 3 stars"? Good question and I have an answer. As I previously said, I have stayed at this particular hotel a ton and prefer Marriott everywhere I travel. I'm loyal to Marriott and have been for 22 years. A few months back this hotel started tacking on a $12/night parking fee which they've never done before. This really upsets me. An average night's stay runs me ~$150 which I've been willing to pay. I now feel like they're sticking it to me with the parking. I feel like they're taking advantage of me somewhat and I've been loyal. This will force me to possibly seek other hotel options in Amarillo. My boss, who comes to town once a quarter and usually stays here, has also said the same thing. They're going to lose $150/night for $12. :( read more

As a first time Amarillo visitor, I was a little worried about my accomodations. The drive from the airport went past the typical chain hotels, so I wasn't expecting much. When the taxi pulled up to a classic Amarillo building, I wasn't sure what to expect. What happeneed is finding possibly one of the best Courtyard Marriott's around. The lobby is contemporary and very easy to relax in. The staff was very attentive and courteous. My room had a real nice layout and easy to connect to wireless internet. First walk through, looked like a great hotel. You can't tell that from the outside. The room was surprisingly bigger than I thought it would be as it was set up differently than a normal, rectangular hotel room. The living space was quite big, which mean the television was a bit of a ways away. The front desk staff were helpful and suggested a great Italian restaurant near by, Napoli's. Sadly, the hot water took forever to turn on in the shower and the tub didn't drain very well, so you were standing in a pool of water. That wasn't fun, but I won't base my whole experience on that unfortunate shower though. read more

As a Marriott platinum Elite member with a lifetime status with Marriott I spend my weeks, months, holidays and years traveling for work and pleasure. I have never had a bad experience with Marriott. EVER. This is why I stay at Marriott. Consistency. That was until 11/9/18 - Cheryl the GM is one of the rudest, unprofessional and an absolute disgrace to the Marriott brand. Marriott central reservations made a mistake on my reservation. Which is no fault of mine. When I asked Cheryl to make the reservation right she responded with " you received a email reservation on how the room was booked. And if you want me to change the reservation you will pay tonight's rate @$269." I have 2 rooms here for the same days and room type. I booked it under $165 a night and points on another night. I asked her to make the other reservation correct since they were booked at the same time and she responded with " no, I am the GM and I can change the rate and make it right but I'm not going to" She smirked and said have a good day. I'll never stay here again! Stay away. Management is an absolute joke here. read more

The good: 1. Our room was very clean and everything was in working order...modern decor and a clean fragrance greeted us as we entered the room. 2. The hotel is in a restored and historic "Fisk" building...kind of cool, right? 3. Rare to get free parking in a downtown location. The bad: 1. I'm writing this review at after 1 in the morning as I can't sleep due to our room (412) being directly across the street from a nightclub and restaurant that is both playing loud and booming music. Called the front desk and they did not offer any solutions other than it "should" quiet down after 2am when all the bars close...it was closer to 3 am...supposedly they didn't have another room to move us to (packed house that night)...we ended up getting a few bonus rewards points and free breakfast for the inconvenience. 2. The parking structure is appx 5 stories tall and had NO ELEVATOR...stairs only...tip: arrive early to avoid parking on the roof! 3. One side of the bed is so close to the window, you practically moon those below. read more

Cool hotel in downtown Amarillo. I had to be in town for one night last year and this hotel exceeded my expectations. There were expansive windows in my high floor corner room, and downtown Amarillo was not as drab as I was expecting. I could see a cool sign to the Paramount building, which looks like an old school theatre but I believe now may be an office building. Nice that they kept the vintage sign! My Yelp research uncovered a few interesting looking restaurants but as it was February I chose to dine at the Bistro in-house. I had buffalo wings which turned out to be surprisingly good. I had some wine, got a decent nights sleep and shower, and was on my way in the morning. If you find yourself in the AMA, check out the Courtyard! read more

I'm here on business. Unless you know someone, you want to try your hand at eating a whole big-assed steak by yourself, or your into cattle raising there isn't much of a reason to come to Amarillo. My business trip brought me here, and the hotel was nice enough. It's clean, the staff was courteous, there's a pretty good Mexica spot across the street, and they have a cure for your coffee fix. What more could you really want, right? Well, I want a thermostat that isn't tech-savvy adult-proof!!! Without being a rocket scientist I'm pretty capable. I can manage my way around and iPhone and iPad, i know how to network multiple devices on a wireless network, hell I can even explain the Affordable Care Act to people. What I could not manage to do was figure out how to turn the damn fan on the heating unit OFF!!!! I was cold, I turned up the heat, and it blew COOL AIR DIRECTLY on my bed....FROM ACROSS THE ROOM!!! I couldn't figure out how to make the damn thing stop blowing, so finally I caved and just lowered the temperature. It stopped! I won! I got in bed! Do you know this damn thing started up again in the middle of the night??? It blew cool air over me ALL NIGHT LONG!!! I'm here for work, and I've gotta make another hour and a half long ride back to my client at 6:30 in the morning. This was a miserable night. If I wasn't so tired I'd be more angry, but I'm too sleepy to muster the energy. read more

Stayed two nights while visiting Canyon and Amarillo area. Very historic building with a great view of the historic area of downtown Amarillo. The nightlife is a ghost town during the week where you'll see the stop lights flashing because traffic is minimal. The maintenance staff had to come in to fix a few things but they were very friendly. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were way too flat. Parking in the garage is a little pricey each day but I didn't wanna leave my car on the street. There is no free breakfast in the morning but there is a Starbucks on site. read more

SHAME ON MARRIOTT! Marriott refused to allow my adult daughter to check-in since she was not yet 21. She was tired, alone, and on a long road trip, so I made the reservation for her, and paid for it. When they denied her a room, she continued tired down the road. I will never stay at another Marriott, Ritz Carlton, or Sheraton hotel for allowing such a policy at their branded hotels. If you have children of any age, I recommend you stay somewhere else. Marriott cares more about themselves than their customers. read more

This place is very nice, and most importantly, accepts the state rate! My coworker and I stayed here because it's located in a historic building downtown. The rooms are very nice, comfortable, and spacious and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The only downfall to this place, aside from the fact that they don't have a pool, is that breakfast is not included. There is a bistro on-site that offer breakfast and dinner, but it's on the pricey side. The beds are comfortable and Paul Mitchell products are provided in the bathrooms. The TV is large and a small fridge is provided in each room. Probably my favorite thing about the hotel is that it is within walking distance of so many things downtown, including multiple restaurants. If I am ever back in this area, I will definitely consider booking here again. read more

Love this place, love the staff and love the rooms. This is the second visit to this place and it is because it is awesome otherwise I would not have come back. Anytime I am in Amarillo I will stay here. The price is great, the rooms are very comfortable and the location is great for the downtown area. I highly recommend this location if you are passing through Amarillo, it is about a mile off the freeway and away from all the commercial stuff you normally get right off the freeway, but you are also away from the traffic, congestion and noise. The staff are warm and friendly from the time you check in until you check out. If there is anything you forgot at home, they will do what they can to help you. The rooms are spacious and the beds are amazing. This is a place I will continue to come to when in the area. read more

In the vein of the Brown in Louisville or Palmer in Chicago, Marriott has renovated an old downtown office building. It is modern on the inside with a nice smattering of the history of the building posted throughout the lobby. The rooms are big, super clean and comfortable. Our room was a king with a pull out bed. There were two pull-outs, one from a sofa and one from a chair. This allowed each child to have a separate bed. The bistro made better-than-expected breakfast and the staff was nice as well as efficient. Make sure you take in your luggage when you check in because there is no elevator in the parking lot. Not inconvenient if you plan in advance. We will stay in this hotel again when we travel through Amarillo. read more

We stayed here for one night as we were passing through Amarillo. I'm a frequent traveler and stay in Courtyards often. This hotel delivered just what we were expecting. The building is old and historic with a beautiful lobby. We didn't stop at the bar or bistro, so I can't comment on those. The hotel itself is a bit tired. It hasn't yet been updated, like some other Courtyards. But the front desk staff was friendly and outgoing, genuinely excited to have us stay with them. We were put in a corner room which was quite spacious. The bed was comfortable - exactly what I would expect from a Courtyard. I would stay here again if passing through. read more

Last stay, three weeks ago, the room AC didn't work because the thermostat didn't work. Spent a night in a very hot room. Next night, AC is fixed and room is still not cleaned at 6:30pm. They were kind enough to clean it after I went looking for housekeeping and listened to a litany of excuses about why 6:30pm should be acceptable. This trip, the spa is down, "sorry for the inconvenience". Why to I have to keep up my end of the contract (arrive on time, leave on time, pay the required amount, etc) and the hotel can wholly fail to deliver their responsibility and just make excuses. EXCUSES ARE NOT OK. Never again. This place is wholly below average. Stay elsewhere unless you like under delivering and numerous excuses. read more

Beautiful hotel. I'm in Marriotts A LOT. It is NOT your average courtyard. Reminds me of the Hammond Courtyard in Dallas (Allen). Lobby is huge, awesome spot for relaxing by the big TV, eating in the cafe (with your own TV), or reading by the coffee bar (lots of free books to read and relax). Parking is a pain. Yes. Get over it as you're in Amarillo and this is a renovated building. It's not THAT bad but if you have 4 bags and a entourage then yes, you'll be inconvenienced. There are good options within a mile to eat, although if you haven't had the spicy chicken flatbread in a Courtyard you must try it. Staff was nothing but friendly, always saying hi and asking if you needed anything. The room was open, CLEAN, and good temperature. Complain about the view? You're in WEST TEXAS relax and take in what Amarillo is all about. It's not Dallas or LA, but that's what I like about it. Overall this will be your best option here (the Fairfield by the airport is nice). Pay the extra money, do not stay at the Fairfield on the west side, trust me. read more

I was pleased with my stay here. My room was clean and newly renovated. My only complaint was that the air conditioning vent blows directly on the head of the bed. I didn't sleep well with cold air blowing in my face all night. I would also prefer some healthier breakfast options. We are back in the area again and are so glad that we chose the Downtown Marriott again. Just liked I remember it with large rooms and a clean updated room. This really has to be one of the best spots in town. Did web checkin because we were coming in late. arrived at the front counter and everything was ready. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE IN AMARILLO! Unlike most cookie cutter Courtyards, this one is in a renovated old building and is very cool inside, sort of a country cousin of a W or a Klimpton. Very cool design touches in lobby and rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Right on top of good restaurants and trendy nightlife in downtown. Going to Amarillo is usually like going back in time to the 1950s and not entirely in a good way. This Courtyard, though, is totally 21st century. Be aware that it doesn't have a pool. So, guy took forever to check us in to start it off. Then, we find out there is a $12 parking fee! WTH? So, we pay, go up to the room and find it isn't the type of room we reserved. Went back down, waited for the front guy again. He finally comes and asked to see our confirmation when we informed him the type of room was wrong. Finally got it right but what a bunch of crap. 149 rate cost 200 with "fees and parking". Won't be a repeat customer at this Marriott. read more
