Wow for the 3rd time in a row! My wife and her mom had the three meat share feast and I had the chicken platter. The meats: chicken, pulled pork, and pork baby back ribs overflowed with savory flavor (excellent even though we got there well after dinner time, about a quarter of 8 and the white meat chicken and the ribs were dry). Haven't had better hash over rice anywhere in the Columbia/Cayce area. Tasty leftovers to look forward to enjoying later. Terrific mustard sauce also, although it really isn't needed. The real star of the show here is the BBQ, which is the real deal slow cooked over wood. I had the large plate pulled pork with the Sexy Lady, (mustard) sauce. The 'cue is served naked, with a small container of sauce that you dump over the top and stir in. The 'cue is a mix of finely chopped with a few larger pieces, and is wonderfully infused with smoke flavor. Rice and Hash are good and flavorful as well. Real rice, not parboiled/'perverted' rice. --Although I've not had any of the other meats on the menu, (Ribs, Chicken, and Brisket) I will assume for now that they are as good as the pulled pork. This being said, I thought the Sexy Lady sauce was a bit too sweet. --I wanted her to be a bit more of a bitch with tanginess and spices. Also, I think that Hushpuppies should come with BBQ, but here they were absent. Other than that, I reiterate that the BBQ here is the star of the show, as advertised in their name. --The Soul Music playing in the background was also a plus. read more

Baby Back ribs were dry. Pulled pork 'pulled' too much. Chicken breast was big. Ordered a combo plate, more than enough for two people; was given two small (1oz?) containers of sauce. This hole in the wall BBQ joint has some of the best baby back ribs and Hash in town. The meat falls right off the bone when its really really good. I never had hash before but I'm a believer now. The sides range from average to above-average. The only reason it's not a five star rating is because the quality varies from visit to visit. True BBQ could really be a BBQ lovers dream...when they bring their A-game. But, I don't know when I will get a good meal or an experience that will totally piss me off. Once I went and received no hash w/ my meal, only white rice. They claim to have the best hash in S.C. Well, where that hash was at when I so damn hungry(insert Future/Drake cadence here)? I'm originally from Dallas, TX and have grown up on bbq. I've lived in Myrtle Beach for over two years and quit eating bbq anywhere on he east coast. Little did I know that there is a fabulous place right down the street from me. I love the fat that was in my brisket sandwich and the Bun was so fresh. Visited True BBQ on 1/22/14. Our party of three arrived at approximately 12:00pm. We were immediately told that they did not have any Mac N Cheese ready or any collards. Also was informed that they didn't have any chicken today. Disappointed to not have those options. Two in our party ordered chopped pork sandwiches. The other ordered the small ribs plate for $8.00. Along with my sandwich I ordered a side of hash and rice for $3.25. The hash and rice was outstanding. I mean REALLY tasty. The pork sandwiches were OK. A little on the dry side but not bad when you sauced the meat. The member of my party eating the spareribs thought they were great. However, she only got two ribs with her $8.00 plate. She said the potato salad was awesome but the corn and slaw was meh. The overall impression I left with is that the portion sizes were a little too small for the $$$ but the taste of the BBQ meats was really good. read more

Driving through SC on my annual road trip, I wanted some good South Carolina BBQ for lunch. I had eaten at Little Pigs BBQ last year and wanted to try a new place. I ignored the so-so Yelp reviews (I love online real-person reviews but also know you can't please everyone.) I was the first customer of the day and the baby back ribs were not ready yet. So I had a large order of the regular ribs with the Pretty Lady mustard BBQ sauce, collard greens, cole slaw, & a sweet iced tea. The plate arrived with a huge portion of white rice covered with bar-b-que sauce and good sized portion of the collards w bacon and cole slaw. The rice was a delicious nice surprise. I cook collards myself and True BBQ version was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The cole slaw was also a small-chopped version with a great dressing. Crunchy and delicious. The ribs arrived and thee were huge! They serve plastic utensils but I had to ask for a knife to cute the ribs. they brought a real metal kitchen knife which worked great. The ribs were nicely cooked, tender with some big chunks of fat and gristle - fine with me, makes the ribs taste great. The Pretty Lady mustard-based BBQ sauce, recommended by the nice lady who took my order, was terrific ! Tangy, not too-sweet, a perfect BBQ sauce. The place is small and the staff, on the 2nd day of the New Year, were having lots of fun, whooping and hollering and laughing it up back in the kitchen. Made for a fun and lively atmosphere. The meat has awesome smoke flavor through out and the sauces come on the side(like they should) so you can add as much or as little as you desire. As a meat aficionado I enjoy the taste of the smoke in the meat then if I'd like I can add a little of the vinegar based sauce to a few bites as I damn well please!(a lot of other places hide the taste of their meat or lack there of with the sauce) That said the mac&cheese was good with the right amount of cheese in it and not oily. The collards were cooked perfectly, soft but crisp, salty but not bitter. Mr. Milton(the owner) is awesome!! He stands out front cooking on the smoker and greets everyone like they're family. I'll be honest I think the meat portion size (like the spare ribs, chopped pork etc..)was quite small. My husband only got two slim spare ribs for his meat...but I guess they make up for the small meat portion sizes by its sides. They give you a ton of sides which are pretty tasty, the potato salad was on point so was the hash you can also pick other sides of course. We had high hopes for this place. My wife got the bbq plate, my son got a bbq sandwich and I got the brisket plate. The bbq pork is pretty tasty and the sauces aren't bad. But the tomato based sauce is very ketchupy. The brisket was absolutely horrible. It did have a smoke ring so I'm sure it was smoked but I think it was sliced and then kept in a crockpot because the consistency of the pieces reminded me of crock pot meat. The hash that everyone raves about is okay if you like a very sweet, tomato based hash. I think if there were a little less sugar then it would have been good. As far as sides go, the potato salad was good but the Mac and cheese was bland, the collards were also sweet, and the baked beans tasted like they came out of a can. Also, the smoker is kept right outside the front door which filled the dining room in a smoke haze. Overall, the four of us weren't impressed for $40 in barbecue. read more

The baby back ribs are as I like them; meaty, smoky and full of flavor. The collards are clean, somewhat crunchy and seasoned well with not too much salt. I had the pulled pork and the mustard-base (sexy lady), while my wife had the same, except she opted for the red sauce (pretty lady). We both agreed that while the pork was tender enough NOT to need the sauce, we both preferred the sexy lady, as the pretty lady was a bit too sweet. My mom had the ribs, and was blown away - best BBQ she'd ever had. We were looking for a nice place to eat after a day at the zoo, and we damn sure won't disappointed.
