I decided to go to True Blue Butcher and Barrel restaurant tonight, and I'm glad I made that decision. It's a very casual spot in terms of vibe, but definitely not in terms of the food they serve. The cuts of meat are displayed beautifully, and the quality is superb. We were greeted by Mitchell, our server, who was not only personable and engaging but also well-versed in the True Blue Butcher Barrel brand. He easily recommended various cocktails based on our spirit of choice, as well as food options. Everything was absolutely delicious! My nephew had the ribeye, while my niece and I had the New York strip. We opted for macaroni and cheese, asparagus, french fries, and mushrooms as our sides. For dessert, we indulged in the tart and the carrot cake. I absolutely cannot wait until I'm in town again just so I can visit this spot. read more

I stopped in for a lunch break today and was able to sit outside on the patio. One side is open to the sun, and the other side is covered. Servers were very nice but not that knowledgeable about certain items on the salad I ordered. I opted for the one girls recommendation of the Harlssa salmon salad. The salmon was really good, but I truly wasn't a huge fan of all the pickled things on it. It was a little much. I really miss the burrata salad. It was a really nice size portion and I had plenty to take home. On the check they add a 3% kitchen appreciation charge Just be aware of that- I didn't mind, but I can't imagine having a huge party and a really big bill cause that extra 3% will add up. read more

We decided to try a new place for lunch and we were not disappointed! True Blue is an instant favorite! We shared the 10oz. Waygu burger special and it was delicious. So were the fries and the simple side salad with herbs, tomato confit and a sherry vinaigrette dressing. Highly recommend! The ambience is cozy & funky. While in Wilmington to go to a concert, we searched for a local restaurant and thought this menu looked good so we tried it. It was Father's Day, but despite that, we were seated quickly (2 people). My friend ordered a drink and the server returned with the wrong drink so it was sent back and the correct one was brought to the table. We started with splitting a wedge salad. While waiting for the salad, I noticed a dead fly on the window sill next to where I was sitting. I asked the server to remove it, and she reached over with her hand and grabbed it, and put it in her pocket. I was shocked! She said, "Im from Wisconsin. I don't care!" I suggested she wash her hands, and she said she would. UGH! The wedge salad was not a traditional wedge and was full of pickled onions that were so acidic it caused me to cough from the fumes of the vinegar. Both of us disliked it and we sent it back. For entrees, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (cooked medium) and my friend ordered something off the Cackalack menu. The food presentation is impressive- so I give them one star for that. But, the burger was cooked RARE rather than medium. It was flavorful, but I only ate around the edges because the interior was not cooked per specification. The Cackalack sandwich my friend ordered was pretty tasteless other than being highly acidic. Neither of us ate even half of what was served. The fries were good. I asked to speak to the manager as they were going to charge us and when she came over, she was quite defensive and wasn't open to my suggestions. I shared with her that I could see they paid attention to presentation, but that in my opinion, the food was not creative or thoughtful. She didn't seem open to that. In the end, they didn't charge us for the burger and wedge salad. The service was mediocre and overall, it was a pretty disappointing meal. It's a great space and I hope in the future, they'll pay more attention to the food quality. Needless to say, next time I'm in Wilmington, I'll go elsewhere. read more

Went for a late dinner on a Saturday night. Parking was a nightmare. We ended up in an overflow gravel lot next door after circling the block twice. Our server was very knowledgeable, especially about all the bourbons. The old fashioned was top notch. No beers on tap. Local selections are by the can. I had the asparagus salad which had lots of fresh greens. I asked for the asparagus to be roasted and they gladly accommodated me. The green goddess dressing didn't taste like much. What a Great little place. It is a more relaxed feel than the other location but same type of nuevo bistro/industrial feel . We sat at the bar the way we always do and we were served by Jasmine, service was amazing , the wife and I shared the Smash Burger and Fries and the burger was perfect. The fries were like they had them under a heat lamp and not cooked fresh, this did not detract from the flavor, they were very good just not hot and fresh. They have bourbon that goes on forever and so darn good. The only other issue is they use the end of the bar we were sitting at to conduct business and socialize, it did not bother me but the wife wife was a little taken aback by it. Ya'll i have truly eaten some amazing food this weekend . Went to True Blue Butcher and Barrel last night for some friends for dinner. We had the most amazing server named James who was just awesome. He guided us through the drinks and recommended his favorite (Call your Mother), was Woodford, cherry liquor and some citrus. With a large variety of bourbons, the cocktails tended to be bourbon specific which I appreciated. Besides having an extensive bourbon menu, they also have a lengthy wine and beer list and Niagara sparking water. Since we had gotten appetizers next door at Second Glass we just ordered dinner. I ordered the smash burger and Brussel spouts, my husband ordered the special Kobe beef burger, as did our friend, and his wife ordered the pork chop. Our meals were amazing. The burgers, especially the Kobe beef, tasted like butter. My husband proclaimed that it was the best burger he's ever eaten. It was that good. The pork chop was smoky and flavorful and the Brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had. James was funny and attentive and just really good at his job. He recommended dessert so based on his suggestion we had the bread pudding and the peanut butter and jelly Creme brûlée. The bread pudding was good, nothing remarkable, but the Creme brûlée was unlike anything we'd ever tasted. Jam on the bottom and a peanuts butter custard- it was sublime. read more

There are so many options, each with flavors that mesh well together- you're sure to get something tasty whatever you choose. I wasn't too hungry so I wanted to go with the kebab, but they were unfortunately out for the day. The waitress recommended the pork belly buns, she said they're quite popular. I've never had pork belly, nor a steamed bun but I thought- eh why not?! Wow wow wow- yeah order these! whether you share them, or quite honestly it was enough for a small meal with the salad it paired with. I didn't realize there was a small salad on the side, so I also ordered a side salad. Both my salad and the buns were delicious. Arrived on their grand opening day. It was very packed probably because they were giving away free smash burgers. They could lose some stools at the bar though, as there was literally no room in between each stool. It's located behind satellite bar. It is pretty spacious with outdoor seating and a full bar inside. They had a limited menu on grand opening day, basically appetizers. The Smashburger was huge, 7oz thick patty with melted cheddar cheese, a Mayo ketchup sauce, and the usual tomato, lettuce, pickles. I liked how the meat was seared with a crispy crust. A solid burger. Besides a smashburger, I tried the bacon cheddy mac, roasted broccoli, brussels. Everything was great. The bacon cheddy mac was my favorite. The bacon cheddy mac comes with hardwood smoked bacon, macaroni pasta, and a white cheddar creamy sauce. I liked that the bacon was chopped into tiny pieces. The roasted broccoli came with chickpeas, garlic chips, Calabrian chilis, almonds, lemon, and manchego cheese. It was surprisingly spicy, but not extreme. The manchego cheese was only slightly melted on top of the dish. There was a small piece of lemon was in the dish for extra lemon flavor. The brussel sprouts came with sliced peanuts, fried garlic, pickle ginger, and furikaki seasoning. It was good, most people will probably like it. It's described as coming with a peanut sauce but I couldn't see or taste any sauce that was on it. This would be a great place for groups. read more

This place had definitely been high on my list as soon as I got wind they had $5 smash burgers on Wednesday nights! My date made us a reservation at 6, so we were able to get in and seated right away (definitely recommend making a reservation - it was packed!). The service was great and our waiter was super friendly and accommodating. Our meals came out quick and tasted fresh. There's indoor and outdoor seating (and bar seating), and I was able to dress cute casual (so it was perfect). This location is also surrounded by other cute and fun bars and breweries, so it's easy to just walk around. I ordered the $5 smash burger + fries and the fries were AMAZING. I will say that the burger bun was super soft and different than most burger places, in the best way. The burger was cooked a bit too well done for my taste, but the toppings were great. If you like your burgers with a little pink, maybe request that in advance. Again, not bad, just wanted some more juice. I'll definitely be back here on a Wednesday night! It was our first time here and we came for lunch. It was during the week and we sat down right away. Waiter was really nice and was able to give us some recommendations on some local IPA. So started with the 1849 drink and that was a hit! Highly recommend and also tried the Rose Petal martini. For appetizers we had the wings and the Brussel sprouts! The wings were good and a good size! The Brussel sprouts had ginger and they were delicious! I wanted to lick the plate off, that's how good they were! My husband had the colossal shrimp with the side of the potatoes! He loved the flavor and said it was real good! I tried their Torta sandwich and that came with the petit salad. The sandwich was huge and great flavor! The sauce and avocado with the pork complimented each other perfectly! We ended our meal with the crème brûlée and that was good! I did not know this restaurant until Friday night as one of our friends made the plan. First of all, top shelf drinks half price is unheard of on a Friday night and they were fantastic! The food was delivered in a timely manner and presented beautifully the service was over the top as Jack as our waiter answered every question and talked with us like he knew us. The manager came out to talk with us and was delightful. It is such a rare occasion to have great service, great food and sweet location. The weather allowed us to sit outside comfortably and truly enjoy this experience. We've been to True Blue Butcher & Table at the Forum and LOVED it so thought we would try Butcher & Barrel since we needed to be downtown for a show after and it was just overall disappointing. True Blue is pretty well known for their steaks so I went with the filet and ordered it medium, and they served it to me rare, like the inside was completely red. The ambiance/service was also just pretty off. We had an early reservation, with plenty of open tables, and they initially sat us at a table right next to the bathroom door where people are constantly walking in/out of or standing to wait to go in, and also next to a very large party, when there were atleast 10 other tables available. They thankfully moved us once asked, but I just don't think that should have been where they seat people in general. We also witnessed a manager tell another table that wasn't there that long "no rush, but we will need your table in an hour and 15 minutes for a large party coming in". I've worked in hospitality and restaurants before and I would never say that to a table, let alone that much in advance!! I could tell they didn't appreciate that either. We went in today looking for steaks for Fourth of July and we got more than we paid for. The customer service was amazing, everything that came with the steaks were just extras. We also got some great sides that we got that come prepared and just need to be heated up. They gave us all kinds of tips for grilling as well as hand outs. Brussels had a peanut sauce that was very good and a nice change from the typical balsamic and bacon. Tucked away place that is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Wilmington, this gem was a treasure to my tastebuds! Best steak I ever had outside of my kitchen . Even their water was crisp and smooth (Weird...I know but it was some good water)! The only hiccup I can say is that when we walked in around five o'clock or so, the hostess asked did we have reservations. I looked around and there were about two occupied tables and the rest was open. I explained that we were from out of town and asked did we need reservations (as I see the empty spots and it was on an odd day, meaning a day during the week that not usually busy).
