Hopping place for sure. Located in a strip mall and parking is a challenge due to all the folks. We were here for a business lunch. Had to wait about five minutes for a table to open up. Lovely diner style restaurant with tables and a bar area to sit at. I had a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings that were delicious. Ordered a takeout lunch order from them today and as usual they messed up the order. We hardly ever go there anymore because they always seem to mess up our order. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich and apple cobbler and a cheese burger with fries with gravy. Get the order home and there is no apple cobbler and cold fries with no gravy. Cheese burger is like a hockey puck. When you call them about it they are yeah we have your cobbler here and you can come back for it and new fries. Of course it's shortly before they close so you can't get back there in time. They need to have someone checking the orders before they give them to the customer. read more

I debated doing this, as most of the time, it's been decent pickup and good eat in....but, Thursday, May 15th, we spent almost $60 on 4 meals and not one was fit to eat. 2 were overcooked burned fried shrimp plates, one half good flounder plate and a very not good blt plate. How do you mess up a BLT?? By making it first, the bread gets hard, crust even harder....so inedible. It's going to be a minute or twenty before I spend any more money here. I'm a regular at the Sawmill Cafe. I've had really amazing breakfast experiences here and the few times I've come for lunch, I've been unenthused. They have a wide selection of affordable and delicious breakfast options. I always get two eggs, home fries, and a biscuit- and it is under five dollars. Service is fast. I'm writing this review in Sawmill and I wouldn't be shocked if my meal came before I was done. It is seat yourself and a casual ambiance. I've also never had an issue with parking. The one detractor is that the few times I got lunch here, I didn't really like the food. The fried oysters weren't good. If you stick to breakfast and stay away the fried seafood, you should be good. We visited The Sawmill this afternoon at a time when they were not busy. We did this for a reason. The server came and took our order and it was approximately 30 minutes later when another server came with our food. No apologies for the long wait. Of course by then we had almost filled up with the basket of hush puppies that came out with our tea. The smoked sausages were over cooked, almost burnt and the steam broccoli was barely lukewarm. My first time for breakfast here, I've been for lunch before. It was crowded when we arrived , but opted for seats at the counter . We were immediately given menus and our beverage order was taken. The beverages and our silverware packets arrived speedily, I ordered ice water and coffee. The coffee was pleasantly hot and had great flavor. A single egg , scrambled dry with potatoes and a biscuit was ordered. As we waited for our meals to arrive we could watch either tv in front of us. The staff was bustling all around , they are always busy at this location, and great teamwork between the staff. My meal arrived soon after and it was hot. The egg perfectly scrambled dry , the potatoes and small pieces of onion, not over bearing , had great flavor and they were plentiful. The biscuit was hot, fluffy and had good taste. I did find it too buttery for my taste , but good. A great breakfast at a good price. I would definitely be back for breakfast or lunch. read more

Busy, popular place in Wilmington near the airport. The breakfast burrito was full of sausage, peppers and cheese and came with a side of salsa and sour cream. It was tasty, but nothing that special. I wanted to try this place for a while but was very let down. The hush puppies were good but the entrees we got were horrible. My husband had a ribeye sandwich that was nearly raw aside from a poor sear and almost entirely fat. I had shrimp Alfredo and the shrimp were super chewy. I eat here on average of once a week either for breakfast or lunch and never had a bad meal. The chicken and waffles is one of the best I have ever had. I think they have the best fried chicken in the Wilmington area. Service is always prompt and friendly with great food it's my number one go to place for lunch or breakfast when working in that part of town. Its with a heavy heart that I'm writing this review, I discovered this Restaurant in 2018 when I moved to this area from Florida, I shortly met several people and began having breakfast with them and met others we grew to about 8 people meeting for breakfast four 4 years, in the past 2 months we have been asked to change our eating habits and sit at smaller tables, today was the final straw, one of our group was sitting at a table for 4 by himself, there were people waiting to be seated so he waved us to his table. we joined him and placed our order, he finished before we got our breakfast, as he left 2 others from our group came him and he told them to sit with us we had 2 empty seats, however the management said they could not join us even though we had 2 empty seats and still no breakfast yet. I approached management he told me they could not join us. Therefore our group who is there daily and sometimes 2 & 3 times, are leaving for good, owner said OK with him, 4 years of patronage means nothing. I went Thursday evening and was waiting for a friend to come in and I even ordered 35.00 in food to go. The waitress was very rude. Then my friend ordered food and it took 30 minutes for him to get. I think this is the same people that run the Sawmill on Carolina Beach Rd. Good hearty country cooking, wide range of standards, burgers, fried seafood, sandwiches, salads. We tried a burger and some sandwiches, which were good, but next time I would be all over the country cooking entrees (chicken fried steak, oysters, fried chicken, pork chop). The place is very busy for not being open long, the locals LOVE it. Three stars because we ordered the wrong stuff...$8 for a burger, but $11 for oysters, $8 for chicken fried steak, $8.50 for fried clams...stay with the country entrees (like the locals). read more

This place is awful! The service is very slow, and I got breakfast there this morning and I've paid dearly for it , I thought a trip to the emergency room was going to be needed! They used to be good , but since they are one of the few sit down restaurants in the area, I guess they take the customers for granted. I think their sides are straight from the can to the microwave without any consideration for taste or quality.i would not feed my dog this putrid mess. We live in the area so have eaten at Sawmill several times. Although we have never had a bad meal there we just can't wrap our heads around the fact they use margarine instead of butter. Have not seen that in years. It make us wonder what else they are skimping on. read more

I went to eat dinner here one night with my boyfriend. We were seated and the waitress says to us I know you want a mango margarita. I was disgusted at what she said to us. We ask why she would say that to us? I mean do we look like alcoholics? Her reply was the management was making her push this on every customer. She then went on to tell us the place is going broke and that's why they're making her push it on every customer. I felt it was very unprofessional. The manager did come out and apologize for her behavior and said she didn't mean it like that. There are other ways of offering drinks then this. I left the restaurant and will never return. Good food and service I had a turkey bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich and it was very tasty. our waitress came and checked on us several times, refilling our drinks and asking how the food was. Several options for sides and desserts. The price for my sandwich was around nine dollars with a side. There was a very large lunch crowd but we were able to sit down and eat immediately. The service staff did not seem overwhelmed and the whole place seems to run very efficiently. I want to come back and try breakfast; I'm sure it's going to be delicious. read more

We were driving from Holden Beach to the Raleigh airport and stopped here at 11 on a Monday during summer. From the minute we walked in the staff were so friendly, warm, welcoming and accommodating! We had an amazing breakfast. Everything was so delicious. Service was fast, prices were fair. Staff continually filling our drinks and making sure we had what we needed. Food was good, good size portions for the cost. The salad bar left a lot to be desired, but other than that, the food was great. I got shrimp and they tasted fresh, altho, my .other in law got fried shrimp and they were definitely frozen. The fries were frozen as well. Overall, a good experience. I've tried them several times in hopes things got better but have had no luck. The food is decent but the waitstaff is slow, even when business is slow, they usually mess up the order, the condiments are sticky, there is a slop bucket on the restaurant floor which is either where they pour the leftover drinks or table scraps, and the silverware isn't always clean. Many waitstaff comply with the executive order about mask mandates (which is posted to the front door) by wearing masks on their chins only. The manager, Jenna, has indicated that this is the best they will do and she won't enforce the wearing of masks by her staff. This restaurant is a small step above fast food. read more
