We've been here quite a few times, and the service has definitely fluctuated depending on the visit. When it's just been my husband and I, the experience has usually been really good. When we've come with friends or larger groups, the service has been much more mediocre. The first time we visited, one of the waitresses was surprisingly rude when I asked about vegetarian options. All she said was "salad," despite there being multiple salads (2 out of the 3) on the menu, including a Caesar with anchovy and a wedge salad with bacon. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in and was much more helpful and respectful. I'm not sure why vegetarian requests are sometimes treated like an inconvenience or unusual concept. I'm married to a huge meat eater and enjoy going to places he likes, but I do wish vegetarian guests were met with a little more patience and understanding. Especially when I am the one paying the bill. The atmosphere is loud and busy, but they are generally accommodating. For larger parties, they require a credit card to hold the reservation and give a limited grace period, with a fee of around $15 per person for no-shows. I understand why restaurants have policies like this, but it felt a little unfair considering we still had to wait around 15-20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. If guests are expected to strictly follow time slots, I think the restaurant should also try to hold themselves to those same standards. It also took close to two hours for our food to come out, and we repeatedly had to ask for smaller things like water or hot sauce. I completely understand that larger parties can take longer, but we were a group of seven, which didn't seem unusually large. My daughter and I came here on a Thursday because we were in the mood for burgers after a morning and afternoon of thrifting. It was our first time here, and I had the bacon cheeseburger and she had the Smashburger. If the burger I had isn't considered one of the best burgers in Wilmington, then there is something wrong with my taste buds! The bun wasn't a typical hamburger bun; it had a roasted buttery taste and glaze to it. And the patty was THICK and cooked to a perfect medium-well like I requested, and coated with melted cheese! The crispiness of the edge of the meat combined with the warm, smooth cheese, along with the red onions, bacon, and sauce made for an incredible tasting burger! Next time, I think I'll ask for just a tad bit more sauce, though. The seasoned fries were hot and excellent. I should also comment about the water we drank: it was poured into our glasses from an already chilled bottle, so no ice was needed! The establishment was clean and lit with natural lighting from the extensive windows that make up the entire front of the restaurant. Tony, our host and server, was extremely welcoming, friendly, and attentive. I asked him to let the kitchen staff know how much we loved our burgers, and he even boxed and bagged up our leftovers (I wanted to eat the entire burger then and there, but I would have stretched my belly way too much!). I had a great experience at True Blue Butcher! If you're a steak lover, this place is perfect since it's a butcher shop attached offering fresh/flavorful cuts. The steaks were incredible, and the oysters are always so amazing here. Definitely a highlight of my meal. They also have a great drink menu which pairs nicely with their meats. The bar is very beautiful as well. The ambiance is classy and the servers are extremely professional treating you like you're at a fine dining restaurant. The vibe is a bit upscale and the service is top-tier!! I would say that other items on the menu such as the chicken and pastas, could use a bit more flavor/marinating but maybe that's due to that not being their main focus. The hostess let us know that we could sit and drink for a bit to wait for their half priced appetizers that they have every Friday and Saturday from 3-6 pm. came in for a family and friend dinner, the restaurant was busy but we were able to secure a reservation for 6 on a Thursday no problem. American casual, more upscale casual and beautiful inside. They offer a large selection of wine, and delicious sounding cocktails. I ordered a Tempranillo, which is hard to find and I was pleased they had it! One friend also ordered the huckleberry fizz, and they had lots of local beers. I ordered the salmon and they were out so then reordered with the shrimp tagliatelle and it was a generous portion and delicious. The shrimp were huge and the cheeses used were fantastic. The French fries were also delicious. The desserts were good portions and the carrot cake was very dense and moist. The crème brule came with a side of whipped cream which is interesting and the key lime pie was authentic tasting. The only downfall is that the waitress upselled some dishes to the more infrequent diners and they were not aware until the bill came. read more

I can not stress this enough to NEVER come to this place. My family and I came with 7 adults and 4 kids. 2 out of the 7 did not eat. In the beginning of the meal we asked if gratuity was added and Austin our waiter told us no it was fine since the two were eating and the kids weren't going to eat much. Heading towards the end of the meal we wanted just verify about the gratuity not being added as stated so the manager comes and says that there will be a gratuity added of 20% per check and we said that is not what Austin told us at the beginning of ordering our meals and the manager rudely said "well that's our policy " and so we asked to speak to Austin to ask what the confusion was. He states he never said that to us which was a lie as more than 3 of my family members heard him. He stated "my manager is looking out for me so whatever he says goes". He goes quiet and we ask for the check. We then tell him how it's being split up, in the middle of telling him how we want it split up ; he rudely walks away. We go and get him and say "hey we weren't done " and proceed to continue and he says "yeah I know " and walks away again. He boxes our food up and I notice there is a $4 "kitchen appreciation " which isn't stated to us in the beginning as this is our first time to this restaurant so I ask the manager what this was for and he explained it to me. In the end I ordered a meal that was 125 plus my son's kids meal and when all was said and done after the 20% gratuity and $4 kitchen appreciation and sales tax my meal was 192 and some change. Completely outrageous. My family understood when it comes to big parties , they don't want to get skimped out on a tip but as an establishment that is not the way to go about things. If you say you're going to do something ; you should honor it. Oh yeah , my wife went to the bathroom while everyone was leaving and I waited for her and Austin and the manger were rudely talking about us. Horrible experience for first time. I only went to the butcher station for filets and crab cakes. Filets were outstanding and cooked exactly per instructions. As for the crab cakes, I'm sure it has to do with who prepares each day. I prepared per instructions and had to keep draining on paper towels afterwards from the grease. We could not eat them and noticed too late the ingredients listed mayo. The service is spectacular, out waiter was very helpful. It's a nice looking place inside and welcoming. The only negative thing I experienced is they sat us at the smallest 2 person table ever. So small they had to keep rearranging things for our food to fit. That size table is really for 1 person, not two. Wow. My parents recently moved to the Wilmington/Hampstead area, so we have been trying out different local restaurants every time we visit. This has become far and away our new favorite. We first visited on Mother's Day. Right away, we could tell it was a very special environment because the hostess was giving away $20 gift certificates to the restaurant's Italian offshoot, which we will be trying on our next visit. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. There is a semi-open kitchen and a bar off to the side, so it was an open but intimate seating area. The wine-by-the-glass/cocktail menu wasn't huge but had lots of good choices. We went with a Spanish white wine and an old-fashioned. Both were fantastic. We started with a wedge salad. The kitchen split it into three portions in the back, so we didn't have to worry about it diving it up ourselves, which is just a very nice touch when you are splitting a starter. (We were also very grateful that the kitchen left the bacon off of one portion since one member of our party doesn't eat pork. And, judging by how much back was on the remaining portion, I'm assuming they doubled up on the rest!) But, let's be honest, the real star of the show here is the steak. We did the steak sampler, and it is 100% the best choice. From an economics standpoint, the sampler is cheaper than getting three separate steak orders. And it was delicious! We loved getting to try each of the different kinds, and we each had a different favorite, though all of them were wonderful. It was more than enough for three people and could easily serve four or five depending on which sides you get. Speaking of the sides, we did the Mac-and-cheese, French fries, and Brussels sprouts. All were fantastic. My only small quibble is that they charge $7 for the side of horseradish to go with the steak. I felt like that was a little nickel-and-dime-y given how much we were ordering and the overall experience. But, to be fair, the creamy horseradish was very tasty, so I can't really complain! We will absolutely be back again, and we are looking forward to trying all of the "True Blue" offshoots. read more

I was visiting in the area and wanted a delicious steak dinner and what better place to go to than a supposedly butcher shop to table restaurant. I arrived by myself at 5:30 pm on a Sunday and was met with an empty dining room and the workers in the serving/kitchen area looked up and ignored me. Not one person gave me any indication they would be with me shortly. I ended up seeing the bar and decided to sit there. I requested what they had for mocktails . . . the bartender seemed surprised by my request and mentioned just one drink with alcohol free gin. I asked if they had anything else and luckily one of the other bartenders mentioned she could make anything. I went with a virgin mojito which was okay. I ordered the choice ribeye for $56 and added a side salad and fries for an additional $12. The fries were very salty and the steak (although perfectly prepared medium rare) was tough. I decided to go to this restaurant with the expectation and confidence that although it would be expensive it would blow my taste buds away which it did not--I didn't even come close to finishing it. After spending ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS on a single meal I felt robbed. Pick up a ribeye at Harris Teeter across the road and grill it yourself, it's bound to be better. read more

We like this place, not awesome but it is good food and the service is decent. It is one of our go to's as they are consistently good and service is pretty spot on. I Love the Pork Belly Ramen here, so Flavorful. So if you get by here, stop in and have a bite and decide for yourself, I Do not think you will be disappointed. Came here for lunch on a Saturday. A nice large parking lot so parking was not an issue. We were able to be seated immediately. The inside is really cute and has a nice atmosphere. Very clean. Our waitress was so attentive and filled out waters up very quickly. My friend and I split a goddess salad. The salad was delicious! Great flavors and everything tasted very fresh. I then ordered a chicken sandwich. I was surprised it also came with a salad because that was not mentioned on the menu. The sandwich was very tasty. It was sweet and spicy and worked very well. Busy busy busy place! We went on a Wednesday knowing about their $5 wagyu burger!! We arrived shortly after 6PM and waited patiently until we could be seated. They took our number and sent a confirmation text, stating a 35 min wait. We were waiting in the bar area because knew one of the bartenders and wanted to sit there and hoped something would open up. At 659PM, we received a text and were seated in the dining room. After waiting easily 5 mins, our waitress arrived and we gave drink orders and said we'll take the smash burger and fries for each of us. She told us since it was after 7PM, we couldn't get the special. We showed her the text that stated we had been waiting for at least 45 mins. She told us it was out of her hands. We said ok thanks, we will not be staying. We walked up to the bar to tell the lovely bartenders that we would be leaving and they asked why? Once we explained, they told us to have (a now opened spot at the bar) seat and they would make it happen. That's GOOD service! We eat here on a regular basis. Sooo many things are great! Love the crab cakes! Sunday brunch is a regular favorite. Tru has some of the BEST steak selection in Wilmington - either in house cooked to order or take home for the grill. Tonight we were disappointed. We got the pecan smoked chicken wings in addition to some of our favorites. The wings were not pecan smoked and were slathered with a hot dry rub. Not just a little bit. Literally several tablespoons of dry powder left. We miss the old wings which were moist, smokey and delicious. I will not ever get the wings again. The best bar tenders in the area though! read more
