Well I gave it this rating because the staff is so nice and courteous. I had the 1 meat plate with chopped brisket, cole slaw, and potato salad. The food was flavorful and the bbq sauce was just right mixed in with the chopped brisket. I'll have to come back and try other things to see if I'll be a regular here. Tried to go to another BBQ place in the area for lunch and they had no more meat available, so I gave Smokey Mo's a try. It didn't disappoint, had the brisket which was tender and juicy, great flavor. Also tried the turkey which was the same as the brisket, flavorful and juicy. For sides I tried the Mac n cheese and potato salad both were delicious, potato salad avg. Was recommended to try the buttermilk pie by the employee, never heard of it before so I gave it a try, wish I had tried it sooner, kinda mix between custard and flan, very sweet but delicious. If you don't specifically ask for lean brisket, you'll end up with a plate full of fat. I placed an online order and didn't think to specify because there isn't a clear option to choose lean brisket when ordering online. Unfortunately, I've had this issue here before. I ended up peeling off the solid chunks of fat, and it honestly felt like about half the weight of the brisket was unusable. It would be really helpful if there were a clear option to select lean brisket when ordering online. read more

We depend on Smokey MO's to be good. This time and the last, it wasn't. The meat was cut too thick and was mostly (!) fat. We had to trim down the fat to feed it to the dog. Less than half was even edible. But the coleslaw was good. read more

My family and I have been eating at this location since it opened. The staff (Paul and the guys) are all friendly and welcoming. Food is consistently good. The jalapeño sausage is the best in the area. BBQ sauce is really good. The will remain on 'My Keepers List'. read more

Updating my review. After going to two separate locations, I've come to the conclusion this place is back on my list of good BBQ and may even be better than I remember. It seems that mo's is under new management. The quality of meat is outstanding and the sides are better quality including the pickles! They are thick cut and appear to be homemade and taste like it. So we tried the barbecue at a different place outside our regular rotation that my other half wanted to try. We were disappointed. The brisket was bland at best. For me, I have had better from a Costco refrigerator meal. Same for the sausage. The pork ribs lacked favor. The ribs honestly reminded be of tamale meat, but less flavor. I tried to improve on the flavor with the barbecue sauce, but unfortunately it provided no help. The green beans were no better. The best thing out of the bunch for me was the boiled red potatoes. You could tell the potatoes were boiled in salt water and tender. So... if most barbecue is too spicy for you, then this may be an option for you. read more

The last two visits here were to pick up 3/4 of a pound of chopped beef for making stuffed baked potatoes at home. The place has been clean, and the staff has been friendly. They're not busy at all, as both times no one was dining in. On my last visit I was able to get onions, pickles, and jalapeños from the self serve counter. The chopped beef was most excellent and delicious for the last two visits. Think the pork ribs were left over from yesterday, got them at 11 am and they were not great

Don't want to do this, but feel like I have to. Completely overpriced. Small portions. Food was put on a cold metal tray and so the meat got cold quickly. For a family of three we paid almost $70 for our food. And it was not worth it. Ever since new owners have come in it has been a painful slide which sucks, because it used to be so good and affordable. I for one will never eat there again. Well, I honestly never thought I would be excited about Smokey Mo's. Let's start off with the average - most of their bbq and sides are pretty average. It's always consistent, but always average and there is nothing wrong with that. You can get decent bbq without stand in line for an hour. Great staff - recently I've been coming here way too frequently hooked on their breakfast tacos. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. They are usually pretty fast and efficient. Nice group of people. Breakfast tacos - yeah, this is where I was impressed. For $1.99, you can pick 3 ingredient ( sausage, chorizo, eggs, potato and cheese). Maybe a few others and unfortunately brisket is excluded. And man, they make a hefty taco! The house salsa is really good and their bbq is pretty good too. I wish they had some of that spicy green salsa that many places have. That is about the only thing lacking. You can also get $1 refills if you bring in your Smokey Mo plastic cup which is a good deal. Overall, I really come here for the breakfast taco. But if you want decent bbq without breaking the bank they offer that too. read more

Met a friend here for dinner last night around 5:30 hoping for a pleasant experience. I was surprised that the employees served our food in take out containers, knowing we were dining in. Here is the deal get the pork loin...... you wont be sorry. I like most of the meat items at this restaurant. I've never been a fan of the side items but honestly when it comes to BBQ joints I rarely ever do. I have visited more then 2 of their locations and what I really really love is that they are consistent. The brisket wrap at one location is going to taste like the same item at one of the other locations. Oh one more thing, my daughter always seems to get a burger no matter where I take her and she loved the one served here.(it was large as well) read more

Went in this morning for two sausage biscuits but unfortunately when I opened up The sausage and biscuits, it was disgusting and soggy when I returned it to the employee he claimed it was butter. I wonder why The Leander location doesn't have this issue? When I go to return everything because at this point I didn't really want to eat there anymore, the other guy cashier supposedly refunded everything but cannot produce a refund ticket. Maybe it was the time of day or perhaps just this location, but all the meat was way below average. However, the staff was incredibly nice, welcoming and helpful! My mom, sister, both my nephews and I stopped here while house hunting in Round Rock for my sister. The place was empty with the exception of one lone diner.. so perhaps that was a clue that everything might be sub par. The meat was dry and lukewarm to room temp-ish, the only thing that was acceptable was the fatty brisket and fried okra. The lean brisket was cold, the sausages was eh.. the fatty brisket was decent but it definitely wasn't fresh and only slightly warm, not tasty enough for me to ever come back. I did really enjoy the fried okra, I could tell it was fried to order and it was fresh okra -- not frozen! The onion rings were clumped, and this is a true sign of a novice fry cook. I even learned how to NOT clump wet fry items ( like oysters, shrimp, onions rings) while working a fry station in a kitchen. This fry cook probably only needs about 10 more minutes of training with someone who is an experienced fry cook and they'll be dynamite. But clumped onion rings.. no, not acceptable. Rudy's is definitely preferable to me when it comes to chain bbq around Austin. Rudy's is sliced fresh in front of you and, oh boy, you can see those meat juices pour! Maybe I'll try another Smokey Mo's location to see if it was just a company standard problem or an isolated location problem. Everyone there was extended nice though, which speaks volumes! read more

This place deserves a 0 star but I couldn't give one because it's not possible. This places employee litteraly dropped our cups like 4 times while she was handing them to us. The employee also got my order wrong and gave me the wrong sandwich and made it spicy. This place's water was also out of order like how can the water be out of order?? it's WATER, and this place doesn't have fries, like what kind of restaurant doesn't have fries?? This place also overprices their food - we orders three sandwiches and it came out to $42. I suggest that you don't eat at this place unless you really want to be scammed. read more

The moist Brisket was dry and fatty and for the price ($14) only got 4 pieces of meat, couldn't even eat the last one there was so much fat and gristle. Stopped by for a quick breakfast. When a business process fails in front of the customer this is not good. I did not enjoy my visit today. When an employee is dismissive of customers, this really stinks. I understand that a new manager is in place and the processes are changing after COVID, but today was a nightmare as far as processes work. I started going more and noticed the quality of the meals were not consistent...in fact one meal was barely warm - so I stopped going. Normally I would go to the Smokey Mo's on 183 and 1431 but I was in this area and hungry. This location has a larger dining area which can fit 60 people instead of just 20. This also reflects on the Fixin bar where they have the pickles and onions and plastic wear. The order line is to the left (better layout that the other location.) The day I came turns out this location had three large to go orders in addition to the walk ins. There were four workers handling both walk in's and the To Go's. Rather unsuccessfully, I might add. There were twelve people in front of me and it took 45 minutes to get my food. Not acceptable. One workers was in the back heating the meats and sides. Another was cutting the meats. He sliced about 3 pounds for a To Go order then cut enough for the next 3 walk in diners then back to the To Go orders. Third workers was getting large plastics bags of the creamed corn, opening them, pour into the bins, then scooping into To Go containers. Fourth guy was taking the walk in orders, wrapping the To Go meats, and put sides on the walk in orders plates. If you know you have large To Go orders, bring in extra staff to help. The food was a Baby back rib platter. The ribs were great and the sides just okay. read more

A friend of mine and I grabbed a late lunch from this location on Saturday afternoon. Here's the positives. The place is clean. When you walk past the outside, you get a good BBQ aroma. And the sauce is pretty good. Here are the negatives. There were two groups of people ordering. There were two employees taking and filling orders while the other three employees were at a table on break. The two employees filling orders were having a hard time, as evidenced by the speed of the to-go orders. The BBQ is adequate at best. The proof comes from the source of the smoky aroma -- a commercial smoker inside the restaurant, which in the majority of cases, can't produce real Texas pit fired BBQ. Smokey Mo's in Cedar Park is no exception to the general rule. My friend said his pork loin and brisket weren't that great. Taking the commercial smoker into consideration, I decided to try the chopped beef sandwich. It too was a disappointment as it tasted roughly equivalent to the chopped beef sold in tubs at the grocery store. Clean facilities and good sauce count for a lot. Unfortunately, when you combine the service and food with the higher prices, it's "meh" at best. read more

Up a star - the service at this location of Smokey Mo's is amazingly good. Friendly people who remember your name with a smile. The BBQ is very good. I'm a fan of the Chopped Baker, a *huge* baked potato with chopped BBQ beef loaded with cheese, onions, butter and sour cream (yes, a guilty pleasure). The salads are surprisingly good, too. And I think the turkey is better than Franklin's (yep...I said it). I LOVE Smokey Mo's. I should disclose that I've been eating at various locations of theirs for ten years. It started for me when I worked in Liberty Hill where, at the time, there wasn't much for lunch. I noticed Smokey Mo's right next to a gas station. My first thought was that this place was probably disgusting. Reluctantly, I gave it a shot and am so glad I did. My favorites, in order: Pork Ribs Turkey Moist Brisket Chopped Baker The bbq beans are the best. The potato salad is solid, better than all the rest. The breakfast tacos are ok. The desserts are ok, not great. I DON'T KNOW why people stand in line at a place like Franklin's for mediocre bbq when there are places like Smokey Mo's. ROCK ON MAURICE! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would !!! The staff at this location is simply amazing . They are super stars!! They always greet you with the biggest smile and are happy to guide you through the menu. The food is really really good too ( the moist brisket is to die for ) and stuffed potatoes are fantastic. Sent instructions to add bbq sauce, pickles, onions & bread with order. Most of the time we don't use it if the BBQ is any good. This time when we really needed it, those items were not available. Your pork ribs are both oily and very dry at the same time. Potato salad was warm. The only thing good was the frosting on the chocolate cake. Worst BBW I've ever had.
