I was expecting more options of food but they have a good amount. I found some yummy snacks. The cashier assumed I spoke Chinese when she first greeted me. I also found out that you have to have a minimum of $10 otherwise you can't use credit card.

I met a nephew for dinner, a monthly get-together, but arrived earlier so heading into Hua Xing for some browsing. The market is right next door to their restaurant. My eye caught a set of Bamboo Steamers, designer Chop Sticks & long wooden skewers. Asked if they handled any Dim Sum items and was directed to an entire wall of freezers that contained SIMPLY PUT EVERYTHING! We started loading my shopping cart with all these goodies! Now in retrospect I should have purchased the frozen items after dinner, but got over excited and dropped the credit card. 50 minutes later, post dinner, I drive home just in the nic of time while all were still frozen. Plan to test my steaming skill set tonight - hot chile oil, soy sauce & sweet chile toppings are ready on the kitchen island. BTW - their 'Ambiance' is PACKED with every possible item you would ever need if you were a Master Wok Chef. Ya gotta check this spot out in Ann Arbor

This is a meat and fish shop owned by Mr. Golam. It's situated in Packard and Platt road opposite…read moreGalleria market. This shop has various Indian spices , rice( basmati), lentils, tea, coffee, cooking oil, ghee and many more items. Very much like a regular grocery store. The main items though are various Bangladeshi fish (frozen) and meat. Chicken, mutton, lamb, beef are the usual items here. The owner is very friendly and understands the meat quality. They even take preorders if you have big events and need large amounts of meat or fish. They can cut the pieces as you desire. This shop have plenty of free parking space too. The only big issue it the pricing of the meat and fishes. They are quite high in comparison to the Bangladeshi stores in Hamtramck. We always buy fish and meat from Golam but recently we started to buy same items from Detroit area through our Frieda who live nearby and it costs us half the price. This is the only shop of this kind in this area so maybe the higher price is justified.

The exotic fruits like mangos and papayas are obviously shipped in, but they also offer many fruits and vegetables grown locally. Corn on the cob and bright red tomatoes from Michigan were on offer on a recent July afternoon. I have been to many ethnic groceries in the area, but this is the first where I've seen bitter melon, a common ingredient in Indian dishes, available. In addition to produce, they have a meat counter, many dried and canned beans, and an astounding array of snack mixes. Some small flies were buzzing around some of the plums in an unappetizing way, and several of the mangoes and pears were looking dried and past their peak of freshness. Other items, especially the local Michigan produce, looked really good. They were running a special on watermelons the day I stopped in.

I was getting my hair cut at the salon a few doors down in this strip mall and when I finished I…read moredecided to pop into Kasoa to check it out since they're a relatively recent opening. As I perused the small but mighty aisles of the shop it became very clear to me that I know very little about African cuisine. And I'm so glad they've opened so close to me so I can visit and learn along the way. When I stepped inside I first noticed the freezer coolers to my right. They carried a variety of meats and seafood--whole fish, cut pieces, filets and more of grouper, goat, lamb, beef, poultry, snapper, crab and more. as well as frozen veggies like okra and . Not a ton of prepared foods but loads to help you make fresh meals at home. They also have a butcher counter in the back. I didn't interact with that a lot but while I was there I did see a customer get a large piece of some sort of beef cut sectioned off into smaller pieces. They also have a small selection of produce and a cooler of beverages in flavors like banana, tamarind, etc. The majority of their imported selection comes in the form of their shelves of dry goods which include a variety of grains, both in smaller portions and bulk. Rice, beans, corn flour, cassava flour, yam flour, Gari, and more fill one entire shelf. I made note of all of them and immediately looked them up when I got home to learn more. They also have pantry staples like peanut butter, spices like pepper, whole nutmeg, suya seasoning, bay leaves, mango seeds, kuka (baobab tree leaves), plus snacks like plantain chips, kola nuts, kuli kuli, etc. Big jugs of cooking oils and a fairly large selection of powdered milks, ovaltine, cream of wheat, and ground corn mixes. They also had several varieties of chalk, clay, and limestone which I was also not familiar with in an edible context but it's apparently popular amongst pregnant women for managing nausea and digestive issues. I learned so much just checking out their shelves! Of course, Africa is a huge continent with differences between the cuisines found in different countries and regions so I can't speak to if they specialize in one region more than another but it seems like they have, at the very least, many staples that can be found in homes from North to South, East to West. And if you're just learning about it all this is a great starting point.
