Ordered takeout many times and finally went to dine in for lunch in a party of 6. Portions are so generous and service is hospitable and with a smile. Bathrooms can be challenging if there's a long line as over the weekend there was only one open. Chicken souvlaki and chicken gyro plates were so juicy & tender. Outside you'll see this cute chef inflatable urging you to go inside. Inside there are plenty of tables and service is quick and efficient. They close at 9:45 pm, so make sure you're there earlier. We were there at 9:15, they warned us about closing, but accommodated is anyway, which was great. The lamb chops were over cooked and lacked much flavor. We also got the mixed grill. It came with several types of meat. The most delicious, and reason alone to come back were the lamb shish kabobs. They were mildly seasoned, allowing the meat to shine, and cooked to perfection. I'm not a white meat fan in general, because it's easy to overcook... but the chicken shish kabobs were also perfectly cooked and seasoned. I enjoyed them. The rest of the meat was ehh.. the dish included chicken and lamb gyro meat, and compared to the chunks it was just okay. I was very disappointed with the adana kabobs, it was overcooked and lacked flavor. Don't sleep on the salad and the rice that come with the plate thought. They were both very flavorful and added to the dish. The awesome rice pudding is a must here. It was fantastic. It's made with clotted cream, was so thick, with just the right amount of sweetness. Dangerously good. Almost 4 stars! I'll be back to try the other menu items and see if it's actually a solid 4, excluding the lamb chops. I was craving Mediterranean food and found this place in Astoria. They had great reviews so more of an incentive to check it out. From the outside it looks like it would be small and not enough seating, but stepping inside it's fairly large and they have seating outside as well. I liked how during the winter time it is heated well. This place is very lowkey which is a plus. The service was great too, but they may need more servers to help out. I wanted to try something from the oven but they ran out of everything or stopped using it after a certain time. So, ended up ordering humus which comes with bread (it was really good), the lamb gyro comes with salad with rice (the large portion was fairly large and the smaller one would've been enough) , and last but not least the beef shish kebab that comes with salad and rice (the small portion was ordered and that was just right.) This afternoon we decided to have diner with our two children at Truva Cafe a tall dude greet us at the door with a really thick accent .. basically he told us the empty seats at the restaurant are all reserved and if we want to stay he has a table in the back of the restaurant for us.. and he told us we had eat quick. I came to this restaurant once before and couldn't figure out the name or where it was. But, I remembered how good the lamb was and I recognized the decor today. A lot of places mix lamb with beef (which I don't eat), so I really appreciated that their Lamb Shawarma Platter is just lamb--and it was delicious again. This time, I got the lunch special which came with an appetizer (I chose the hummus with bread) and a soft drink. The portion size was way more than I expected for a lunch special--I actually took more than half of it to go. Definitely a great value. For only 18$. My server was super attentive and really thoughtful. We started off with the Mix Appetizer Plate. The tabouleh was fresh, light, and properly made. They focused on the main ingredients of tabouleh and didn't use filler ingredients (like bulgur) that other places do. The dips were also great with my favorites being the hummus and babaghanoush. They all went so well with their complimentary, warm, and fresh Turkish bread. The Small Mix Adana Kebab (~$18) is technically not listed on the menu but they were able to give us one skewer of each which I appreciated. The chicken adana and lamb adana had different seasonings and flavor profiles but both were filled with herbs and aromatics, were tender and juicy, and paired well with the white sauce on the side. The food is absolutely delicious! I had a falafel sandwich and kunefe. The sandwich had fluffy bread with subtle sesame flavor, and the falafel was warm and well-spiced. There were a variety of fresh toppings and sauces to make for a pleasant meal. The fries on the side were also nice and crispy, without being too oily. The kunefe was perfectly crispy on the outside with a delicious slightly sweet cheese filling and syrup. The dessert was satisfying without being too sweet. There is plenty of parking in the area if you're driving in. There is plenty of seating indoors with a wonderful backyard as well. I liked the ambiance it is very family friendly. they even showed the Arsenal match against Porto in the UCL cup! We were told that if we paid in cash instead of using a card, we would receive a discount (no taxes). We agreed and paid $1,200 in cash, as instructed. However, after we paid, the staff came back and claimed we were still short on payment. When we asked to see the receipt, they then showed us a second "discounted" receipt showing that our actual total was $1,100, not $1,200. This restaurant is always busy & buzzing; they have all the Mediterranean real deal home made food over here !! I opted for the baby lamb chops cooked medium served over white rice along with a grilled 1/2 tomato and one long grilled hot pepper also a very delicious side salad mixed greens with some Red cabbage in their house lemon vinaigrette dressing was delicious & refreshing to the palate !! $ 30.00 bucks; thought it was well worth it for real cooked authentic meal definitely hit the spot ... Also came with home made flat bread with sesame seeds on it, smelled delicious but I couldn't eat it Carbs so I gave it to my coworker who woofed it down & said it was delicious !! The restaurant was super clean as well as their dining room; the staff was very friendly and accommodating to my needs & questions ... Truva has been sitting in my bookmarks for a while; I don't remember what led to it landing there, but several of my Yelp friends have been here and left good reviews so it was there for good reason. Anyway, I had a work meeting in Queens this past week and we got food from here. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to finally check out Truva for myself and see what all the praise was about. Truva specializes in Mediterranean cuisine, and looking over the menu they had a good variety of dishes including soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, wraps, and mains. There is obvious Greek influence in the menu, but it also draws from other countries in the vicinity (namely Turkey). Because this was a lunch and learn, there was a wide variety of dishes ordered for us to choose from: penne with marinara sauce, chicken and lamb gyros, falafel, plenty of pita, and dips to share. I tried their chicken gyro meat along with some hummus, tzatziki, falafel, and a smidge of the pasta. The food was good - everything had good flavor and was very fresh. I especially thought the gyro meat was good - there's always a risk of it being overly salty but theirs was just right. The falafel was also a standout - again not overly salty and maintained its integrity despite being served family style. Overall, I was impressed with Truva's offerings. They have a lot of competition in the area, but they deliver the goods and I would have no qualms returning to try more of their menu. read more

Very impressed with this place. We walked in and were immediately seated outside. We ordered the Lamb Adana Kebab served with rice, grilled tomato, and a salad and the Karisik Mixed Pide. First, the lamb Adana kebab, lamb tasted very flavorful, tender, and juicy. The rice and salad were a pleasant balance to compliment the saltiness of the lamb. The dish tasted pretty fresh. Second, the Mixed pide separated into 3 sections: 1) Pepperoni, 2) Spinach and Mushroom, 3) Lamb. This was my favorite dish here because you're able to try all three options on 1 pide. It tasted pretty similar to a pizza except the cheese is on top of the toppings. They were very generous with the toppings and even filled it to the crust. I like the aesthetic of being served on a wooden cutting board. The texture of the bread is similar to a pita bread. Overall, I would love to come here again and try other menu items. My partner and I were interested in trying a new place for Turkish food that was closer to home than our usual A la Turka on the UES. We came in and ordered what I believe to be a good representation of the food offered to get a well-rounded understanding of the food, its flavor and price/value. Hummus: Served with warm fresh bread, it was creamy and tasty. It was the perfect neutral appetizer and what was left over complimented our main course nicely. Mixed Grill: A combination of grilled meats accompanied by salad and rice. The meats differed in preparation with some being more tender than others. The textures were not consistent or ideal but it was a good variety of the restaurant's offerings and a safe bet if you are eating with a crowd or ordering Turkish food for the first time. The rice was not fresh and we left it almost untouched. salad was actually VERY good and if I came back, I would order the Adana Kebabs and request salad instead of rice. Spinach Pide: The restaurant offered a variety of pide fillings, but after a full mixed grill we opted for a vegetarian option. It was served piping hot and tasty. Bread was crunch on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Filing was missing some salt, but otherwise highlighted the spinach, which a lot of cheesy dips/breads in other restaurants do not. Two glasses of white Turkish wine: This place is Halal but does offer alcohol to patrons. This is great when you have dietary restrictions to consider, but may be eating with a mixed group. Very crisp, tart and typical for Turkish win :) This place is literally at the foot of the N/W train station at Astoria Ditmars, so it is incredibly accessible and an obvious choice for a nice lunch or dinner after a busy day of running errands along the avenue. Their outdoor garden area, although enclosed in plastic, did have ventilation and was spacious. We didn't need it but they have overhead space heating available, for those chilly evenings. Even the small size ($16) is quite large and it certainly could be a meal and then some, depending on your appetite. Besides the meat, it includes a thick pita, rice, and a salad. Service is efficient and cordial. There's a discount if you're paying with cash. I haven't tried dining in but will have to one of these days. It had been awhile since I'd had any Lahmacun or Sigara Boregi so my partner and I ordered those and shared them. I could probably just have a couple of Lahmacun and call it a day. They were both delicious and I loved the crispness of both of them. For my main meal, I had a lamb gyro wrap and fries. It was also wonderful. I loved the flavor and texture. And the bread was incredible. Service was friendly and you know when a place is full of Turks that the food is the real deal. My better half had Iskender Kebab and he finished every last bite.
