If I'm only judging the food, it's 100/10. The feteer was just on point and the flavors were amazing. We had to wait a little bit, which to me reads that the food is being freshly made (so no complaints there either). We also order Om Ali and that thing didn't disappoint. The place is cute. The bathroom is one of the cleanest bathrooms I've seen in a public space. The service is the meh factor. The older lady is very nice but the best way to describe our waitress is that I don't think she was interested in the job -and wasn't too friendly either. The waitress who was taking our order was very stiff which came off as unfriendly, and even our questions about the dishes were met with short and clipped answers. In the end we decided to order one mixed feteer and went elsewhere for more food. I love love love this place. Move over pizza, because feteer now takes your spot in my heart. I came here in the evening on the weekend and was able to order the lamb feteer to go and when I tell that the cheese pull on this was next level! It was piping hot but I couldn't wait to dig into it, the tender, well-seasoned meat with that wonderful, stretchy and pletnfiul cheese, and crunchy sauteed vegetables - SO good. Mum Fateer is a casual Egyptian restaurant in Astoria selling awesome fateer not only at affordable prices but also at gigantic portions. On top of all this, it's very tasty- what's not to love? I got the mixed fateer and it was absolutely delicious and packed with different types of meat ranging from chicken to pastrami. The owner (or someone I'm pretty sure was the owner haha) was very nice and made sure we were accommodated as well. I stopped by Mum Feteer and tried the Mixed Feteer, which is a layered pastry stuffed with pastrami, beef, chicken, sausage, olives, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. It had a taste and texture that reminded me of an Egyptian version of a calzone or a loaded pizza. It was really tasty. Good portion for maybe 2-3 people, because just having one slice made me quite full. I also tried Om Ali for the first time. It's a traditional Egyptian dessert, kind of like bread pudding, and it was delicious. Definitely glad I gave both a try. They have a hookah section inside as well that you can choose to sit, or have a more traditional seating section. It wasn't the fault of the restaurant, but there were people who were smoking outside that made me dizzy. read more

My Lebanese friend brought me here tonight for some comfort Egyptian food on a cold and rainy NYC night and it was delicious! We had the pastrami feteer and it reminds me of a stuffed pizza slice and it was so good and yummy. We also ordered a macaroni bechamel and it was filled with some ground beef and bechamel sauce. Very tasty and creamy, feels like an Egyptian style mac n cheese for me. Our bill had 15% gratuity included and was less than $40. It took about 15-20 minutes and was worth it. Egyptian food deserves more recognition than it gets and if more people got to experience the awesomeness of feteer, it would become a staple in dining culture. Truly, what's not to like about cheesy, meaty, flaky goodness? Feteer is a dish where it was love at first bite for me. This place keeps it simple with various types of meat, veggie, seafood, or sweet feteers, pizza, macaroni bachamel, and a few side and dessert options. I always opt for the mixed feteer, which I find packs a wallop of flavor with plenty of meat, cheese, and peppers and onions all balanced nicely with the flakiness of the crust...it's the stuff of dreams. The service can be slow and they've been unnecessarily curt on a few visits, but I usually call ahead and pickup to eat elsewhere or sometimes I'll sit in the back and grab shisha and a mint lemonade in the back so I can enjoy a slow meal. The place is usually bustling with activity and adds to the rich tapestry of Middle Eastern and North African eateries on Steinway Street, and I certainly hope they branch out to more places with their delicious food! read more

Really great feteers. I am not that familiar with what they're supposed to be like authenticity wise, but they taste great. The pastry part is surprisingly thin, though when you get to the outside edge, you get a bit more dough. Soft and chewy pastry around the edges, thinner and a little flakey crispy in the middle. The pastries are filled to the brim with cheese and stuffing. I thought it would be doughier but there is a ton of cheese like lava. The veggies inside like tomato and pepper are very fresh. I love that their olives are flavorful but not crazy salty like most olives out there in the US. The sweet custard one was excellent too. Not too sweet, which is what I prefer. The texture is excellent. It reminds me of a moist crepe. I highly recommend this one. I did takeout so I can't really speak much on service dining in, but the person taking my order at the register was nice. It could be a nice sit down place. I didn't look inside too far but it seemed like there might be a back space area for hookah? The chairs are cushy and comfy in the main front dining room. These are solid feteers. Do NOT come to this place. This is one of the most unfriendly experiences I've ever had. I paid for my dinner and even left a tip before I started eating. After that, when I went inside and sat down, one of the workers came to me and demanded extra money just because I was sitting inside. Instead of being polite or respectful especially since I had already tipped...he told me to either pay more or go back outside. I was already upset, but I had no choice because I had already paid for my food. So I had to wait outside in freezing weather (around -15 degrees). He eventually brought my food outside and literally stood there watching me eat in the cold. My fingers were frozen, and I couldn't even finish my meal because of how cold it was. No mercy. No kindness. No respect. I would never come back to this place, and I strongly warn others not to go there either. What they did was inhumane and unacceptable. read more

I visited Mum Feteer with friends on a rainy Sunday, as part of a food tour of Astoria! The restaurant had a decent amount of seating and we walked in without a reservation right when it opened for lunch. It did get busier and full after half an hour, so we were glad to be there at open. the restaurant was clean and decorated nicely. The menu is a bit limited and it was not serving foods/menus that we had seen online originally (picture of their menu attached). The service was a little bit slow serving the food, though this may have been because it just opened for lunch. We shared three dishes: Chicken Feteer: 3/5 our group agreed this tasted a bit like a buffalo chicken pizza... It was a bit disappointing. We also did not get a lot of flavor from the flaky crust of the feteer Hawawshy: 5/5 came right off the oven(?) and was so warm and delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly and juicy and flavorful, which was soaked up by the dough. A big favorite, though a bit heavy. Om Ali: 5/5 a delicious pistachio and warm milk based dessert. I enjoyed the raisins inside and would describe the dessert as very lightly sweet and not overwhelming at all. We found the pricing fair and felt the food we ordered were good value on the whole. I was just a bit disappointed that our main entree wasn't particularly special. This may not be my first stop if you're exploring food spots in Astoria. read more

I came here after I saw an Instagram post and it didn't disappoint! I've been to Egypt on a tour and all we had were curated tourist buffets, none of it had feeter! My SO and I ordered the mixed feeter and hawawshy to go. I recommend ordering feeter in advance because all are freshly made. There are no premade ones on display. Each one is made on the spot by owner! Maybe it'll change in the future as it gets busier but I had the chance to see him kneed the dough with all the ingredients wrapped inside. I normally don't love olives but it makes the pie stand out. For the hawawshy, it sort of reminded me of a Chinese meat pie, with different seasoning. A comfy lounge for midnight (and daytime) munchies, and perhaps the only place in NYC to get authentic, fresh made feteer! My friends and I love coming here for hookah, fresh cheesy feteer pies stuffed with veggies, meat and cheese. Their pizzas are also great! The staff is so friendly and accommodating, they have a back lounge for backgammon and hookah and it's always so amazing to watch them make each order! I've been meaning to come here forever and so glad I finally got to experience it. I don't think the 20 dollar minimum fee is in place anymore. And if it is I'm assuming it's for card users? Not sure because my friends and I got the veg feteer and that was 18 dollars. There was a lot of cheese and very little vegetables which was disappointing but it was made fresh to order and was good regardless. I mean let's be real cheese and flaky dough is the best combination you can ask for. It came with white sauce and hot sauce for dipping. Make sure you bring your own water bottle because otherwise you'll have to purchase your own beverage here. There's a 15% tip already included in the bill. My husband and I saw this on Instagram and decided to check it out. They open at 2pm, in the back of the restaurant, they have a hookah lounge, which was interesting. We decided to order the meat lovers. It was really cool watching them roll out the dough and create the pizza in front of us. The only downside is, we couldn't eat there, they have a minimum of $20 spend per person, so we had to take it to go. The pizzas are heavy, my husband and I were only able to eat half the pie. 2 of us shared a mixed feteer ($22). We got here on Friday night around 6:30pm and it took about 20 mins for the order to come out. When we tried ordering a dessert feteer, it was going to be an hour, so we opted out of that. One feteer was enough for us, and we had leftovers. The mixed was good but a bit too much in the ground meat taste. I'd be interested to try this with less meat and more veggies, but the cheese and dough itself was good. It comes with sauce, and we opted for white sauce which worked really well together. There's no tap water here (bottled is $2), and there is an embedded 15% gratuity. They say that they have a minimum charge of $20, and not sure if it's per person or maybe they made an exception for us.
