Some of the best Ethiopian food I've had! Both of our dishes were delicious and prepared fresh. The bread that they make to pick up your food with is the best part of the meal. Service was quick and efficient. The decor was not much, who cares, we were there for the food. A little expensive, but what isn't, it ain't BurgerKing. Probably will go back and try the goat. All in all, a good experience.

This phenomenal restaurant is hidden away in a Gresham strip mall. Don't let that scare you away. The interior is very cozy and the food is incredible. The tej (honey wine) is made in house and is served in a traditional berele, which you can see represented in many of the traditional Ethiopian paintings that adorn the walls. Trust the name of the restaurant: this is a restaurant you should try!

It was a delicious dining experience. Located in a rather empty strip mall in Gresham, there is a Petsmart and Dick's Sporting Goods nearby. We decided to try the Ethiopian beer, pretty good! We ordered the Meat and Veggie Combo. It was very tasty. Having had this dish one time before at another restaurant, I'd say it was a much better flavor experience here. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful and the spices were just hot enough for me. I like things on the milder side of spice. We also ordered the Doro Wat to go. It is a chicken stew containing chicken legs with the bone, (skin removed) in a red pepper stew, served with a hard boiled egg and a side of cottage cheese that is different than I've ever tried. It's more like the texture of feta cheese. Also served with a generous portion of injera (tef) bread. It was a satisfying meal to be sure.

I really hope this location stays around for a while because they're so damn unique. I'm also appreciative of restaurants who state which items are vegetarian & vegan right on the menu. The knowledgable staff here help further fine tune what you might order if you are the enlightened type who trys to avoid consuming animal products. They are awarded stars here as such: 1. Ambiance: It's comfortable and they there's wonderful Ethiopian decorations 2. Food: the stews are all very flavorful. Their spicy hot powder, available by request, is just what you'd need to bring the heat up a notch 3. 'Try Me' is Vegetarian & Vegan friendly. They know their ingredients so they can advise which dishes will suit those with self imposed dietary restrictions. WHAT TO ORDER?: Get the veg sampler platter combo‼. The injera bread is made with teff only which means it's gluten free. Gresham is lucky to have such an amazing East African option. Good stuff!

This restaurant is fantastic for delicious and well priced Ethiopian fare. The sourdough injera is so complimentary and the honey wine is awesome. Each dish is so tasty and the spices and flavors are perfect for the food. We went here our first time on Valentines Day a few years ago and we're definitely a big fan of their work. The owners are very kind and take great care with their work. Best Ethiopian in Portland thus far.

This is a jewel of a restaurant. The food , the music, the art, the tea. Even got to chat up the owner about Ethiopian jazz/r&b Get down here at all costs!

Try them!!! That's all I can say. If you've ever been on the fence about Ethiopian food and are holding out for some reason, this place is absolutely phenomenal. Plenty of options and the injera is delicious.

Let's just say I'm not leaving Gresham as often as I do during the week. My lunch was so delicious today... I'm in heaven. My food had mild spices or should I say flavors. So close to home cooking and my mom was a very good cook. I wouldn't describe the flavors as ethnic or spicy in any way. Just scrumptious! This is a beautiful small restaurant with plenty of seating. The bathroom is beautiful and clean. And this restaurant is air conditioned! My female host/server was calm, friendly and the food came out in about 10 minutes. I couldn't finish it though...I'm bringing half of my dish home to enjoy later. I'll bring friends and Humam T. with me in a few days too!

I'd describe the meal as rustic, hearty, fun to eat, and FLAVORFUL. We were excited to find Ethiopian food in Gresham, and ordered the meat and veggie combo via Postmates. Everything was great. The beef dishes were the highlight- both were fork tender, and the lentils and veggies were good sides. The meal also comes with a few pieces of warm injera bread, which doubles as a tasty edible utensil, making shoveling the deliciousness into your gullet even more enjoyable. I'll order again. Looking forward to dining in once COVID-19 settles.

I truthfully didnt read any reviews but we had nothing but good to say about the total experience so i can't really report on negative reviews..only positive. So truthfully i had no idea what to expect but i can say i was pleasantly surprised with how authentic the flavors were. Ok ok, keep reading if you want to get deep into it.. I was there because Ethiopian food is by far the most romantic and intimate cuisine I've discovered to date. And I frequent it. The flavors are bold and original. The staples range from safe, to raw seasoned beef and curried lamb. An American fair ground of new flavors to explore. We opted for the raw seasoned beef with Ayib, which is a wonderful cheese that adds all the good things that anyone could ask for to the dish. If you wanted more because you need an endorphin release they've got you covered there as well. Primarily because they asked the spice level and delivered perfectly, but second fiddle was the small pile of additional party spice that they place on the side rustically so that you can add it yourself. Its not offensively hot whatsoever so please do experiment with it. You wont be disappointed. Or bring a small container and bring it home. Im only disappointed i wont have any tomorrow lol So raw beef, ya, get that. The other dish we had was an amazing red beef curry with all the right accompaniments. Perfectly cooked peppers and onions paired with just the right amount of heat and sweet balance. We investigated a medium heat level and it was safe. Very safe. Very good. Like so comfortable they should just go with one option lol Hot was an option and next time i will probably try that. I'll probably recant my medium argument. The ways spice was used as a paintbrush was so thoughtful, and im pretty sure we didnt even get into the good stuff. Whoever is in the kitchen creating this experience really hit all the keys just right tonight. The last thing i wanted to mention was the honey wine. First of all its extremely reasonably priced. Like less than many of the drinks i frequent, for the whole bottle. At first its..different.. and somewhat jarring when taken back without food. Not unpleasant, just different. But when its consumed with the food it makes, oh oh oh so much sense. It really turns the meal into more of an absolute symphony. This place would be on repeat if i lived closer. The locals are really lucky to have this around. Im not so lucky to be as close as they are but i hope ill be back soon. Thanks for a wonderful night sisters.

We're your only customers and you're not happy to see us? You're not going to give us your undivided attention? You're going to slowly serve us like we're an after thought? 2) Why is it called Sisters when I see no females working there? 3) The food did come out quickly as it seems everything is already made. 4) The food tasted good. It was our first Ethiopian experience but unfortunately did not leave a positive, lasting memory. We will not be back. 5) After our meal we waited and waited. It seemed we were required to pay at the host stand rather than at our table. This was difficult for my friend who uses a cane, but we had no choice. 6) I've been to a Moroccan restaurant before where it is also customary to eat with your hands. That place started the meal by offering a bowl of water to wash your hands. This place did not and I was surprised.

In Portland, we made the wonderful discovery that there were almost a dozen in the area, and we had a difficult time figuring out which one, or ones, to visit. We initially chose Bole because of consistently good reviews and being relatively close to our hotel. It of course had the welcoming feel one expects. Ordering for our group was a little more challenging than usual, because much of their menu is set up for single servings. But has been the case at most Ethiopian restaurants, if you can convey to your server exactly what you want in a group platter, they can make it for you, which they of course did. The food came out quickly and looked and tasted wonderful. Bonus points for having beets in the vegetable platter. They do make the meat dishes slightly spicier than expected - we asked for them medium, and the lamb dish was much more than medium. Tej is available by the glass; ours was room temperature and slightly fizzy. Additional injera is available on request. Those aside, our dinner there was really enjoyable, and while we'd want to check out other Ethiopian restaurants in Portland, we'd certainly return here.
