It was our first time scuba diving and I was very very hesitant cause I'm not a swimmer and am actually very afraid of the ocean but our instructor Jake made sure we are safe and comfortable in the water. He was very patient tho we struggled and was very attentive of all situations. The entire experience was fun and safe as we only dived in the lagoon but still got to see some cute sea animals. I booked this snorkel tour for my sister and I through viator.com. If it's your first time snorkeling I highly recommend doing the guided snorkel in Honolulu. My sister and I had a great time! Stephen, our instructor was kind and patient and laid back. Before we got into the water he explained the equipment thoroughly and reassured us that we would only go as far as we felt comfortable. We were provided wetsuits, flippers and the snorkel equipment, so the only thing you need to bring are swimsuits and sunscreen. He also had a locker nearby that he locked, in case you wanted to bring your backpack, cell phone wallet etc. Stephen, took great videos on go pro that were were able to download. I would highly recommend this place and when we go back my sister and I want to try the scuba diving! read more

I have no idea how those guys have that many reviews and almost all positive but in our group every one was upset . Reason for it is that diving doesn't match with description and pictures which Groupon provided and I was much less time then it should be . First we go to the water on the beach just 20 ft away and exactly diving was just 5-7 min . We think it was just a training but it was exactly diving ‍ . There is no good view , no corals or fish (just few of them) . Like I said all group think it was just little training before we do main diving . So everyone spend 75-100$ (the pens on promotion) just to swim near beach with scuba for 10-15 min and 5 min diving , if it worth for you feel free buy it but on my opinion they should let customer know real information what they paid for read more

My husband and daughters went on the Try Scuba Diving tour, which was scheduled to be 2 hours (2:00 pm- 4:00 pm). The website also said that they would spend 20-45 minutes underwater after instruction time. I was shocked to find out that they were back in our hotel room at 3:30, and that was after walking back over 20 minutes from the dive site. They were out of the water before 3:00 pm. They said that they each spent maybe 5-10 minutes under water. This is not at all what was advertised, and while we understand this was meant to be a beginning/instructional dive, it was still not what was expected when we paid for this experience. Had we known this was what the dive was going to be, we would have gone elsewhere. That said, the instructors were knowledgeable and did a good job. The dive overall was just disappointing as this was what everyone was looking forward to most on our trip, and not at all what was advertised. It was a waste of money! read more

So I booked with them for an appointment at 4 o clock originally but was moved to 2:00 clock. In the instructions, though it is stated, you must arrive 15 minutes prior or your whole booking is cancelled. It is very strict. It is partially my fault but what is the point of an appointment time if I must arrive 15 minutes prior and not just make it a 1:45 appointment time? I had things originally planned to 4 but I moved around to make it by 2. They did not refund anything because I did miss my appointment and I'm sure this is not the first time someone's missed an appointment like this. I feel frustrated and almost cheated by the experience and wanted to post what I went through for others to be careful. Just because it's an appointment time does not mean it's the time you need to arrive. So it's okay for a business to have an appointment time at 2:00 pm and you have to arrive by 1:00 pm if they wanted to or else your full booking is gone. Although it is partially my fault for the misunderstanding, it still feels stupid for a business to put the appointment time at 2 instead of 1:45 when the ''real'' appointment is. read more

I took my niece for her first dive because she wants to become a marine biologist. Stephen A. was our instructor and we met him in a small lagoon area called Magic Island. I was very impressed with his instruction. Stephen was very thorough going over equipment, diving skills and techniques, effects of pressure on air cavities on the body, equalization, and most importantly safety. Once we were in the water, we talked about the skills that he expected us to perform, demonstrated those skills for us and gave us the opportunity to perform those skills to his satisfaction before we moved on. After demonstrating the skills, he gave us a dive brief of the area and we went in. Surprisingly, there was a lot too see in less than 10ft of water. My niece enjoyed it and is excited to pursue her OWD cert. I couldn't have asked for better instruction. If you want superb dive instruction with a super professional yet laid back instructor, I highly recommend this company. Make sure you ask for Stephen A.!! read more

If you were like me and terrified to try snorkeling - I would definitely recommend booking with Try Scuba Diving! My husband & I are vacationing in Oahu and he really wanted to get out in the water. I was nervous to try, but many things about this experience put my nerves to rest. The night before our original booking, one of the owners called to say the visibility had been poor and weather conditions weren't looking to improve and asked if we could re-book a different day of our stay. They also gave us the option to upgrade to a scuba diving lesson at a discounted rate. We stuck with snorkeling and re-booked for a day later. To my surprise, we were the only 2 people booked for our time slot. I guess I assumed it was open to groups of 6-8 or something like that. It put me at ease that we'd be the only two people with our guide. Our guide Kevin went over a few tips/tricks on land before we headed out into the water. He was very patient with us - okay really just me, my husband was doing fine - and let us get comfortable in the shallower water before venturing out further. Magic Beach is a protected cove of sorts, which helps with the visibility under water and the chop of the waves. Basically after the guide makes sure you are comfortable/aren't going to drown, they'll follow you around wherever you want in the cove to take a few GoPro videos. Kevin would at times point out areas he was seeing fish/other interesting things. Most of the aquatic life we saw was near the rocks protecting the cove. The waves we still a bit rough so it impacted visibility a bit. Kevin did show us how we could dive down further into the water (no snorkel) to see some other things, which we practiced doing a few times. This experience is great for true beginners. If you have experience snorkeling or want to explore a bigger area - maybe this isn't the tour for you. All the employees we interacted with during our visit were great! I found it to be a good value for our money and would recommend it to people wanting to try out snorkeling (or scuba diving) for the first time! read more

This is one of the best try-dive experiences I've had as someone who is nervous about diving (tried for the first time at the Great Barrier Reef but wasn't trained and didn't feel comfortable at all when I had to clear an air bubble 40 meters down!). Ryan helped when I was initially scared the first few mins and he is thorough with instructions and safety training. We saw a ton of fish and what is great is that they will take GoPro videos at no extra cost. This was my husband's first try-dive and we've both decided to get certified. She was soooo nice and welcoming, and she fully explained all the basica before going into the water. I have a huge fear of deep water but she was so reassuring and whenever I needed to go up when my anxiety kicked in, she re assured me that I was doing good and told me that it was okay to take a few breaks here and there. The guides are very good (Vanessa was great) but I do not agree with the company's communication with customers who cannot swim. I clearly asked them if they include people who cannot swim in their tours. They encouraged me to book a spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. The reality is if you don't know how to swim, you will need assistance in the water; this is not possible in a tour with people who know how to swim as the rest will expect the tour to proceed and not be slowed down by those who need assistance. The company should clearly call this out. I had to cut my tours short because of this reason - I am bummed out as its not very often that you go to Hawaii. As a person who cannot swim, I would be willing to pay more for a personal tour with more assistance (as other companies do). The current communication is misleading - beware if you cannot swim. read more

Really great experience, and would likely try scuba diving again probably with another company. Instructor kept calling me by the wrong name, and got irritated when I did not catch on. She constantly looked at the time and told me we do not have enough time. We spent more time out of the waters then in the water. I had booked for 10-12pm but we got back at 11:30am... They did not have change for taxes I had to pay with my Groupon so they did not give me any change. The lagoon also didn't have as much fish as anticipated. Location was hard to find. Google maps sent us to the other side of the beach and we had to run 15 mins before finding the tent. Only positive, when things were rolling smoothly she was very nice.. read more

Awesome experience. Instructors made it a fun but safe time! It took place inside a jetty (?) area which helped control some of the external factors that one may encounter on a boat dive. I've dove once before in Honolulu on a boat and they were not as thorough and comfortable as Try Scuba. I felt safe with this company. So for a beginner or new diver, this was perfect. I've always wanted to try scuba diving, so I was super excited when I heard of this place! We had an awesome instructor Ricki who was patient with everyone in the group and made us feel comfortable( scuba diving is a very out of body experience!) however I was disappointed by the message communicated over the phone when I booked the tour. They told us we would be taken into 20 feet of water and we would see over 20-30 species of marine life. We barely saw one fish and we were only in around 10 feet of water. We were not even under the water, we were basically on the surface( so basically I could've snorkeled that). Wish I knew about this earlier otherwise I would've taken a tour that gets you used to scuba and then takes you to a proper dive site. However our instructor was great and would recommend this place for learning breathing techniques for scuba. They also provide free GoPro footage which is nice! read more

I signed my husband and I up for the into/ try scuba tour because I love diving and hold several certifications and dives under my belt, but my husband has been reluctant to try it. It was perfect for him. Ours scuba pro was Vanessa and she was amazing; very friendly, calm, clear, and knowledgable. We arrived at 7:30 am (30 mins early for check in) our tour started at 8am with a safety briefing and scuba basics. Then we went straight into our tour of the area (magic beach lagoon, a great controlled oceanic space for beginners) which took about 30-45 mins. Max depth was 15 feet to start our tour then gradually ascended as the tour progressed. We saw plenty of different fish, jellies, and little squids and octopi around the coral formations. At the end we took off our gear and we all got free videos and pictures of our tour which was super nice! I would recommend this company to anyone who may be interested in scuba but on the fence of getting their certifications or certified but hasn't been out in the water diving for years and would like an easy refresher. read more

This is our first snorkel. We had our 5 and 6 year old with us and our pro, John was so patient. He was professional and very kind and gentle with our boys. He actually ended up taking our 6 year old who is a little more scared and helped him individually! The lagoon is calm and perfect for beginners. You get what you pay for. I felt exactly like that after finished my scuba diving . Tyler was instructor for me and my spouse .There was 1 more couple with us. I did Snorkeling day before this Scuba Diving day and it was far better than Scuba Diving . Tyler only took me once to lagoon and it was short duration of 15 min top [ I was told at the time of purchase there would be 2 dives - 1) Lagoon dive (18 ft ) and 2) Ocean dive (where actual action is) ] . Tyler was a good instructor . It was a bright sunny afternoon but didn't saw much in lagoon (few fishes and that's it ) I saw more varieties when i was snorkeling in Hanauma Bay and lot more Fishes & Big turtles while Snorkeling with Holokai Catamaran . Next time i will book with a reputed Scuba Diving school and someone who can take us on boat to a good scuba spot. read more
