Surf Lessons: The booking was easy and contact with the tour operator went smooth. Originally booked private lesson for my daughter age 21. I knew the booking indicated a child for private lesson but wanted her to have the extra time. The day before received a text indicating asking to place her in a group lesson because it would save money. I agreed to it unfortunately. The class was large so only get 3-4 attempts to get up on the surf board in a wave. She left if she had more time she would have been able to accomplish more efficiently. Before agreeing to the group I wish I had asked more questions. Several people left the group half way because they needed help and asked questions but really didn't get the help they needed. It was if they felt they should have remembered instruction from the on beach instruction. The people who left were less athletic and not exceptionally strong swimmers. My daughter is 21 an athlete and a strong swimmer so she did not encounter the type of struggles that some did in the lesson. Some of the helpers did not seem to like working with beginners which is understandable since beginners need a lot more instruction. Over all I think the surf lessons were done professionally and safe; however you should know that group sizes vary, some instructors seem more vested than others, and you will only get a few opportunities to attempts getting up on the board. read more

This place is the biggest scam on the beach of Waikiki, in front of the Hilton. They have several lounge chairs and umbrellas set up throughout the entire beach. Our first 4 days at the resort, my husband and I truly believed they were part of the Hilton and for guests to enjoy. I can't even count the number of times I saw families rush to chairs to use them as they freed up. We were able to snag some chairs ourselves a few times as well. It wasn't until our sixth day when we saw several employees packing up chairs quickly as people vacated them. We went to ask the employees if we could have some chairs, and they told us we had to pay for them. Given it was 2:30 in the afternoon, they told us they didn't recommend buying them at this point in the day because you pay a single price at any point in the day to rent them for the full day (I.e. same price at 9am as at 4pm, and they close at 5pm). We shrugged it off and went to sit near an umbrella already in the ground on the beach (again, I still thought this was part of Hilton). An employee immediately huffed and puffed his way over to us and told us we weren't allowed to sit within 6 feet of the umbrella without paying. I'm sorry but what a joke! They should either have signs up to let people know it's not a free for all, or make it more clear somehow. There is nothing relaxing about having to fight for shade on a beach vacation, and there is nothing fun about spending over 40 bucks for an umbrella for a single day. What a rip off. Can't believe people actually buy into that. Do better for your guests, Hilton! Highly recommend just buying an umbrella at an ABC store and using it for the duration of the trip. read more

We were staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and had spent our first day in the pool area sitting in the reserved cabana because we didn't want to spend the whole day watching to make sure no one stole our lounge chairs. This is the only way to go because there are no umbrellas around the super pool, so if you don't want a melanoma, then you gotta pay that upcharge. The next day we wanted to try the beach, so we reserved lounge chairs and umbrellas online with Waikiki Beach Activities. It was super easy. We lined up early at their shed, which is located on the beach side next to the Hau Tree Bar. There is a sitting wall to the right of the shed when you're facing it and that is where the line starts so you don't have to stand up the whole time. Once they opened we gave them our reservation info and they pointed us to the guy who pulled out a couple of lounge chairs and asked us where we wanted them. He put them down and started digging holes for the umbrellas, which they put install low so that you get good coverage. Yes the sun moved, but it was easy enough for us to move our chairs around to stay covered. We had a better time on the beach than the pool. A lady dropped by and sold Hawaiian treats and smartly, she had a Venmo account so we got some buttery mochi. We also found a bird who had a string and some micro filament stuck on his claw, so we caught him and untangled him, so we got a chance to be heroes. They close up shop by 5pm, so be ready to vacate your lounge chairs by then but if you're like us, you will have already spent plenty of time in the sun and are ready to get dinner. read more

We just had an amazing time surfing using Waikiki Beach Activities!! Absolutely perfect. The kids want to go again tomorrow ;) -The surf/paddle guys have a yellow tent near the beach and lagoon at the Hilton, we paid at the Hilton kiosk booth just down the walkway). -We have a 10yo and 7yo, both good swimmers, played in ocean waves before. My 7yo needed a private instructor, but was together with the group that my 10yo and I were in. That was a good call, the 7yo definitely could not paddle at all, my 10yo needed A LOT of help to paddle around too. -Derek and the other instructor (drawing a blank, sorry) were the best. They weren't rushing, but they kept things steadily going so we weren't wasting time. We always knew where we were going, what the plans were, they just made it so easy. -Standing up on the board was the best. I got one really good and stable ride, I'll never forget that. My kids learned very quickly, stood up several times, they had a blast and want to go again. My 7yo did it completely by herself once at the very end. -hardest part is the long paddle distances. It's a decent workout. You should have some level of fitness to go out, the entire time in the water is a workout (but do-able!! My kids, their friends, my husband & I all took group surf lessons and had a great time. Most of us stood up & rode the mellow waves. They set you up for success by positioning you for a wave & letting go, almost like when you are teaching your kids to ride a bike. Paddling in & out the hardest part, but you may get help from the great staff (thanks, Brandon). Derrick is the best instructor, lots of experience & explains surfing well. My friend and I took a group surfing lesson through Waikiki beach activities, and we absolutely loved it! I was initially reluctant to do the surfing lesson and actually signed up for a paddle board rental instead, but the instructors let me try out the land lesson before I committed to the surfing portion, and then switched my rental out for the surfing class. The class price seemed fair, it was $100 for 2 hours. The instructors made sure we were confident on land before we went out into the water. Once on the water, they helped us paddle out/paddle back when needed and ensured that we felt safe. They had a rope out in the water for us to hold on to after surfing, to ensure that we were safe and didn't expend all of our energy while waiting for the next wave. They pushed us onto waves so that we could easily stand up and really experience the joys of surfing. They were friendly with reminders through the process of what we could be doing better to improve our surfing/paddling techniques. So glad to have signed up with this company, and to have experienced surfing for the first time with them!!! read more

SUP yoga with Yumi was fantastic. She explained all of the basics of using the board and led our group of two teenagers and two adults through a beautiful yoga practice. My daughter and I loved our experience renting an aqua cycle four years ago. We were saddened when there were none available on the beach to rent this time around. I figured it was because the ocean was too choppy for it to be safe during the winter season. We were staying one hotel over and noticed that Waikiki Beach Activities had them to rent at the Hilton Hawaiian Villag lagoon. I rented two cycles for my family of four and my kids had so much fun. It was my 8 year old's first time so I'm glad it was in a calm area like the lagoon. Admittedly, it is much more fun in the ocean - plenty of open space and my daughter and I got to see a sea turtle! But if that's not an option, this is the next best thing. And we liked it so much, we decided to rent a paddle board the next day. Now, because it was everyone's first time, I'm so glad we were in the lagoon. The most danger you're in is to have a slow collision with another paddle boarder or an aqua cycle. You could also run into a swimmer but that's probably more dangerous for them for you. It's not cheap but appreciate the convenience in both the proximity of our hotel and how calm the water is for first timers. read more

WOW! My expectations were exceeded. From the safety instructions to disembark, everything was great. The captain and crew were super attentive. Within a minute of being in the water I was on top of 3 beautiful sea turtles. Crew members were in the water with us to see that every one was protected. Following the dive, a sandwich buffet was served. Various meats and smoked tuna with all the trimmings. I had their draft IPA but wine and other cocktails were also provided. The captain took us for a nice sail around Diamond Head with a spectacular view. Be sure to carry your phone/camera. p.s. My 10 year old son took surf lessons. I was impressed with the instructor and how he helped my son get out to the waves, stayed with him, and gave him instructions as the wave came and pushed the board a bit to make sure he caught the wave. My son now loves surfing. They did a great job and have a great location to learn how to surf. read more

Large groups. We were told 6-8 when we booked, but there were 12 in the group. One instructor and 2-3 surfers in the water helping out. About 30mins on land training and then 90mins in water so good split. Water is only about 3' deep though where they take you to actually surf, so everyone ended up with cut feet from the reef below when they fell off (as all new surfers do). Instructors just kept telling people not to put their feet down. Difficult when you are over 6' tall and falling! Try and find a more private lesson. Lots available for little extra cost. read more

Good instructors! They forget to tell us that they recommend long sleeve rash guard but you can wear a t-shirt if that is all you have. Also, book your lesson at the beginning. Of your trip because if there is a lot of wind or a really low tide they may need to cancel your class. The best thing to do is check the tide charts before booking your day/time for your lesson. On this part of Waikiki Beach it is better to book a lesson closer to high tide. read more

I learned I am not a surfer, and they were very patient with this extremely slow paddler. They kept encouraging us to try and insisted we all did a good job. If there was a negative or zero rating - this is where I would use it! Waikiki Beach Activities is at least consistent on one thing - and that is providing, year after the year, the most consistently horrible aggressive confrontational irresponsible unprofessional beach service I have experienced in my world-wide travels. I have been an owner at Hilton Grand Vacations Club since 2001 and been going to this beach since I was 12 - and WBA hires the rudest 'people' to work this booth. (And to be clear it's the one directly on Waikiki Beach near the Hautree Bar.) They are rude, walk around with their ear buds, put beach chairs and umbrellas on top of one another, don't greet the guests who spend a significant amount of money on beach chairs and umbrellas while visiting....we watched several guest sit on chairs, unbeknownst to them that other guests had just vacated and be treated rudely and spoken to in an unbelievably harsh manner. If they aren't aware you're an owner and using your own chairs/umbrella, they put their chairs/umbrellas literally on top of yours, so there is no walking distance between the umbrellas - when I approached them after 2 days of this and explained I am an owner who travels with my own items, and even lined up my umbrella with the way they were laying theirs out on the beach - one of the workers was extremely rude and confrontational. WHY Hilton continues to contract with them - I am not sure. I have recommended to the Hilton they conduct a survey amongst guests and owners and provide the feedback to WBA - if you can, bypass this activity center, complain to the Hilton, and maybe we'll finally get a team/company on the beach who actually want to be there! read more

My 12 year old daughter and I took the surf lessons at the Hilton property. The guys that did the lessons were awesome. They were a bit pricey $95 each and I tipped them $40 (20 bucks for each of us), but they made sure we had a great experience. I think my daughter and I were able to ride every wave they put us on. There were several kids in our group and the instructors made sure they were all safe and even towed them around. Anyway, the lessons exceeded my expectations! read more
