This is a matter of fact update and is based on sole experience of my recent visit. Hmmm, where to I begin? OK, my story will begin at my experience of checking into a departing flight out of LAX, Terminal 4, the terminal for American Airlines. Preface also by saying the terminal is under massive renovation and has been for some time and when will they complete it? Who knows? OK- Now Pay clear attention- I get dropped off on LEVEL 2 which is the departing level for all flights. My boarding pass is on my phone so I need not stop at the check in counters. I tried, TRIED to be smart and follow the signs as I weave my way through the terminal to get to the departing gates This starts my journey! 1- Signs take me from LEVEL 2 to LEVEL 4 where the TSA check in sites are albeit Pre Check, Regular, Clear and the like. Keep in mind this is just through the security where they check your identification 2- Once past the TSA check in lines you then take the escalators or elevators back DOWN to LEVEL 3 where you then go through the screen machines. 3- once past the screening machines you take the escalator or elevators BACK DOWN to LEVEL 1 (Level 1 is street leve, the place where you normally pick up your luggage on arrival then go out to curbside) NOW I AM CONFUSED. I'M TRYING TO DEPART AND I'M AT THE ARRIVAL STATION???? I look around for signs and there is none. I so I decide to be like a LEMMING and follow the other walkers.... You walk through the tunnels going back in towards the gates and there is counter foot traffic with the arriving passengers. What a mess! Once you get to the end of the tunnel, you will take the escalator or elevator UP to LEVEL 2, the walk to the next bank of escalator and take it UP to LEVEL 3... WAIT Not done yet!!! Then take the escalator UP to LEVEL 4 where the gates are! Did you follow all of this? Do you need a map? Footnote-it was 3643 steps (Yup, counted) ok my watch counted the number of steps it took from the point of getting dropped off at curbside then situated at my departing gate... John Wayne Airport is super convenient, easy access from the 55 and 405 freeways. Small connected…read moreterminals, generally quick and easy tsa screening. No wide body passenger flights so it isn't inundated with massive crowds the way some airports are. The biggest drawback is the short runway which limits the size and length of flights available into and out of SNA. For international flights other than Mexico or Canada that means connection flights. The runway length also makes for a unique departure procedure where the planes take off and reduce the power and throttle at 800 feet of altitude. This can be disconcerting for passengers who are unfamiliar with the take off.

This terminal is so much nicer than the rest of the airport. They have high end shopping - Hermes, Burberry... And much better food options. The ground was so dirty it was honestly disgusting, with trash scattered around and no one in sight cleaning or maintaining the area. What makes this even more surprising is that Los Angeles is one of the most visited and well-known cities in the United States. We just had the FIFA World Cup here, with visitors coming from all over the world, and Los Angeles will be hosting the Olympics in 2028. You would think the city and LAX would make cleanliness a much bigger priority, especially at an international airport that is one of the first and last impressions visitors have of Los Angeles. It was horrible to see the pickup area at Tom Bradley looking this neglected and dirty. For a major international airport in a city that welcomes tourists, there really is no excuse for it to be this bad. Someone needs to be regularly cleaning and maintaining this area.

There's a play area for children. Dog relief area is also available. The women's restroom was clean. Very spacious for luggage to go in the stall if traveling alone. There's also a hook for your bag. I like that there's automated paper hand towels. Lots of food/drink options like Starbucks, Sambazon, Brodaed Express, Qdoba Mexican Eats, Jamba Juice, Taps Brewery, Market 949 (for souvenirs and snacks), and etc. There's a food court with seating near Terminals 14-22. Our flight was for Alaska (Terminal B) but they were in Terminal C since they were using Frontier's gate. Luckily you don't need to go through TSA again and can walk down the long hall to get to a different terminal. Highly recommend flying about of John Wayne Airport when you can!

Not only was it a way to drastically cut our expenses (domestic flights from within Mexico are obviously way cheaper than international flights from LA), but it was such a calm, streamlined, easy operation. We got to the parking lot early for our 7am flight out of Tijuana, walked to the check in terminal & that's where we encountered our one and only 'hiccup.' Because we had 3 children with us, the Viva desk check-in said we needed to speak to a representative but we were told the only one on duty at that time was in the restroom. Luckily the stand alone kiosk on the other side of the area worked out fine. All of this was more of a Viva issue than a CBX one. We breezed through the bridge over the boarder & customs took no time at all. It was one of the quickest customs experiences I've ever had. We got dumped out right at the bag check area & were on for our trip. Coming home was just as easy. We got our bags and followed the well marked signs to CBX to walk over the boarder & do customs. Customs took a tad bit longer than going to Mexico, but that's more of a US thing than CBX. We still got through in was less time than expected, even when arriving on a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend when I would normally expect huge crowds of people trying to get in to the country. In all, we saved hundreds of dollars even after paying for CBX & parking on location. We will always be using them from here on out for any family trips to Mexico.

Big clear signs. - Located far out in the middle of nowhere. - When you enter the parking lot, you get a parking ticket that doesn't clearly say whether to leave it on the dashboard of your parked car or to bring it in to the building. Not sure whether parking needs validation. The ticket has a spot that says "STICKER HERE", but I asked the attendant. He said parking's free the 1st 30min. Wish this info was clearly posted at the parking entrance.

I already…read morechecked in online for my flight so I just need to drop off the luggage and several counters were open for people like me. I checked my baggage, went through TSA, and arrived at my gate in 45 minutes. I can't help but wonder how many people plan to visit L.A. for the 2028 Olympics know about ONT as an alternative to LAX. ONT may not have as many shops like LAX or LGB, but it has a lot vending machines. I even found several Kabins for people to wait with privacy. What a great idea! One thing ONT needs to work on is to provide charging stations in the waiting area for passengers. Passengers should also bring a light jacket in the carry-on as A/C in the waiting area can get really cold.

The first time, a couple months ago, Alaska Airlines gave us a hard time about arriving too late. The glaring issue is I've been to many airports, including international airports, and I've never had such terrible customer service. I should be able to print my boarding pass, but for some reason they retire you to go speak to an agent. Then TSA was also horrendous and inefficient. Suck a small airport should not have these issues. LAX is more efficient, JFK is better. Palm Springs is small and better. Minneapolis is seamless. This place STINKS!! Today, we were running late. When we get to the counter, we're informed we've missed the plane and need to rebook. There were still 40 minutes with no TSA line to board. Alaska then informed us we needed to arrive 50 minutes before the flight. Nope, now we had to pay $150 to rebook/missing fought. We are now waiting 6.5 hours until the next flight because the idiots at the counter could not figure out how to get stuck a simple task done. Then the other representative was extremely rude to the family checking in an oversized bag. Nasty all spend this morning and my only other time. We learned we could not take our vehicle out since our reservation was activated. So we had the option to go to a coffee shop or chill out for a quarter of the day since the employee needed to get $150 out of us. Shameless!! Fck this airport.

Came here a bit early to had a chance to take more pictures and check out more of the airport. -- the rental car building is very close to the terminal and consists of the major vendors (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Dollar) -- no jet bridges, so all planes use portable ramps to get passengers on/off -- free wi-fi worked well and didn't require any PII to be entered -- filtered water dispensers are throughout, allowing one to fill their reusable water bottles. -- no airport lounges here -- there is a dedicated TSA line when entering the secure area -- there are two bus stops. the more usable one (going to downtown Long Beach) is on the other side of parking, past the taxi stands. -- is definitely very convenient for folks who fly Southwest
