Took our family here for a Thanksgiving dinner. The place was packed, not an empty table in sight! We pre-ordered a banquet menu and a whole turkey. Food was delicious, service - attentive, and overall our experience was very positive. However, it seemed Tsob Tsobe catered to a more mature audience, and when live music started, all of the kids and grandkids finished their meals and begged to leave. I hoped they'd play more dancing music and kids staying later. Oh well... Like this place a lot, have been coming here years. Love the rustic authentic ambiance and feeling. The waitstaff is very attentive and add to the pleasant experience. BYOB with a cork fee, but at least you will be drink what you like. They do offer a full bar if you forgot to get the bottle earlier. The food is always on point, and the selections are vast. From meats to fish to the appetizers, everything is tasty. Great for small or larger groups. One negative is looking for parking, don't know if they have valet. We ate here to celebrate a birthday and it was such a good time. We ordered a lot of cold appetizers such as salads, cold cuts, a soup and wings to start. They brought out bread that was warm and looked pretty tasty. I ordered a shrimp kebab with rice and salad. Everything was so delicious, including their fruit punch. The shrimp had some sort of extra seasoning on it. Portions were good as well. For desert I had vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso (off-menu). The ice cream had a little ice in it but otherwise was alright. They even came out with a birthday sign and a bunch of flashing stuff. Our waiter didn't quite know what a gluten allergy was but he was very accommodating and checked in to make sure I could eat certain things. All of the staff were lovely and the decor is really cute as well. The fish tank video behind the stage is kind of funny too. My one and only thing that as unappealing was the strong smell of urine in the women's bathroom despite the bathroom looking very clean so it could be that it just seeped into the wood flooring (not the best choice of material). My order arrived after a hour (as they predicted) in a tsobe tsobe small delivery car. I ordered the Beyond Burger, which came with curly fries, and a java chip frappe. They gave me $5 off on seamless for my first order so my total came out to be a bit less than $20, including delivery and all the other fees. It was sealed very well, the brown paper bag was stapled so many times that I had a slightly hard time opening it. But hey! They were protecting any spillages or mishaps along the way, which is great. It came with utensils, ketchup, and mustard packets. When I opened the brown box, the aromatic smell just flew right in my face. I wanted to devour my meal immediately. I thoroughly enjoyed my java chip frappe. It was exactly what I expected and craved. There were chips and an overall chocolate flavor, followed by a bearable hint of bitterness. It was my first time trying the infamous beyond burger, which is supposedly plant based but is as good as beef. I got it medium cooked. It does have some juice in it as does traditional patties. Maybe because I knew it was different, that just sat in the back of my mind and made me feel weird afterwards (which is why I gave it a 4). I wish I got it cooked more and that there was a piece of cheese on it. I don't think think i'd get it again but it definitely is a healthy alternative. The curly fries were super good though!! Went here with my girl, for our monthly dinner meet up. Our entrees were visually on-point (albeit her stomach started rumbling after the end of her dinner. By the evening she was incapacitated and I wasn't much better the next day) My issue lies with the fact that the kitchen would not take back a barely touched wrongly made hummus.( Hummus by the way requires tahini!) However- the travesty which earns them two stars was tacking on a bread fee of 3.00(?) plus a gratuity charge for 2 diners. We weren't asked if we needed any food accommodations, accompaniment, ketchup for my fries was never offered, and the waitstaff- other than giving us our meals-was completely absent. I met Vadim while on assignment in front of the restaurant. We spoke for a bit, and after the work was done, he invited me in for a bite to eat. After being outside, amidst the horns, noise, yelling... the constant movement of people... Vadim escorts me in, and I stood in awe... I was not expecting to see what I saw... Rich, dark wood beams with warm plaster walls and stone... vaulted ceiling... organic... thick wooden tables with wide back chairs... it was stunning. A polar opposite from the outside, and made me feel like I stepped into a grotto... Vadim supplies me with an iPad... an interactive menu. I instantly see the items are cross-country... a little bit of East... a little bit of West... some separate, some combined. I ask him what one of his "hot sellers" is, and he responded "The Lamb "Lula" Kebab". I agreed. What came to the table... two generous kebabs of ground lamb, mixed with exotic spices, wrapped around a skewer (removed prior to serving), and cooked over a charcoal grill. Saffron basmati rice (I assume basmati) with a lovely assortment of mixed greens. Vadim also served me a ramekin of this home-made "barbecue" sauce, tomato based that was a bit on the spicy side... and it worked perfectly... the spiciness of the sauce balanced out the savory of the kebab, which, by the way, was soft, juicy and tender, without a hint of "gamey" that lamb often provides... The rice was a perfect "Al Dente", as rice goes. A basket of sliced bread came to the table... baked in a Tandoor, this bread had a thin, crisp crust, medium density with a semi-tight crumb... lovely bread. The meal in itself was exemplary. Flavors were on point. Now... speaking as a person whose favorite hobby is "eating", I will say that the overall experience was stellar. I fully understand you can get a burger, or a kebab, or a tuna filet in any place that you choose... But it's the ambiance, the attention to detail, the service that makes it an experience. The quality of food is pretty good - Georgian soup (kharcho) had a nice flavor though could have been a bit thicker - it's possible that it was the last of it today (they did call to let us know that they no longer had the soup we originally ordered). The avocado salad and the Uzbeki plov were also good ... the calf's liver, well ... for $11.75 I'd say either the driver ate 2/3 of the order on the way or they simply forgot to put it in the dish because for 16 cubes for $11.75 is a rip off to say the least. Overall we noted that while prices remain the same, portions offered at the restaurant are significantly bigger (fuller I'd say) than what's delivered and for that the food is seriously overpriced. I usually don't go out of my way to bash a business in my local community but I am extremely disappointed in how my last experience was on Saturday night, don't let the swanky decor fool you. After being taken care of by valet ($5) , the nasty manager first asked with a snarky tone if my friend and I had reservations. We told him we didn't but we hoped he can squeeze in two people. He rolled his eyes and offered the bar only until further notice( bar was tiny) since we wanted hookah and he claimed all the other tables were reserved. This restaurant doesn't put reserved signs on the tables they just follow a lousy notebook so its hard to tell if he was being truthful, i felt like he didn't want our business; but sure enough after he saw the sad look on our faces he put us at a table that could seat up to four but smoking section was non existent here. The waitress we had was really nice and friendly but didn't speak good English. I also was so angry that the restaurant was extremely cold, we asked why the heat wasn't on and the waitress said she doesn't know, and she didn't bring it to the managers attention ( its funny how the fireplace was on and we still froze) i saw people sit in their jackets. What blew my mind since I've last been here is how drastic the menu has changed , they took off the classic favorites, no more samsa manti , kutabi or large burrata salad over fresh greens. I saw it was mostly kebab and grilled meat dishes along with simple green and Mediterranean salads and seafood. The theme of this place is unclear, was it turkish or uzbek at a time or pure russian or simply a grill based menu, nobody freakin knows. We decided to try the burrata caprese salad without greens, fried calamari and chicken wings. Sounds simple right? Ha i guess not. First they said they dont serve wings anymore then they said they only serve them before 6 for lunch but we asked if she could plead with the chef and sure enough it was made. Whats sad is that we had to send the fried calamari to the kitchen because it was soggy cold and the breading came off the rings, its like they threw it in the microwave for two seconds and bam. We made them throw it back in the deep fryer to make it crispy as it should. The wings were sad tiny and oily with no blue cheese available so pathetic, they also gave us the same sweet chili sauce used for calamari so its like they had no options period. My blackberry sangria was really pleasant though it tasted like summer and the burrata salad was fresh with pesto and the cheese oozed. By the way dont expect bread to start with unless you want to pay $3, that's ridiculous . For main dish we got lamb kebabs platter to share which came over a hot tortilla, rice and pickled items and tiny adjika sauce. The meat was seasoned well but was hard to chew, it was over cooked. The rice was a nice long grain but so so bland i had to add lots of salt. Everything i tasted felt like it was not made with love or care. I got so upset that i skipped dessert. When we were ready to smoke we asked what areas of the restaurant were available to sit to do so and it seemed odd that all of a sudden we were allowed to smoke, this only happened after the table behind us demanded hookah there too. The policies of this restaurant is so unclear. I was happy but confused. We liked how large the variety was but guess what half those flavors weren't available, gee shocking , so no watermelon chill or ice blueberry. We got ice Citrus mint almost a half hour later and it came with a nicely lit ice cube but the tobacco burned fast so the hookah didn't last that long , and to get a refill on coal was forever. The entertainment here is atrocious, doesn't matter what language the man and woman sang, they sucked in both russian and english it was better off with a dj. They were loud, off beat, awkward and kinda corny with 75 percent russian love slow dancing songs. Maybe one good song was lets get loud by jlo, ps the dance-floor is tiny. There is outdoor seating for warm summer nights, but Coney Island Ave is always busy, noisy, dirty, and dusty, so I suggest seating inside. Tuesday's are caraoke nights. They have two separate restaurant rooms. One specifically for those who enjoy screaming their lungs out during caraoke nights and another one for the rest of guests who want to enjoy the night in peace. Spacious place. Nice, relaxed ambiance. Modern decor, good lighting, pleasant modern background music. Much much better than the average that you will usually find in Russian Brooklyn areas. Order food on an iPad, which helps since you can look at photos and judge about portion sizes and ingredients. I've tried almost everything on the menu. The prices are amazing for the portions and the high quality of food. All their meats are delicious so you can never go wrong there. Their fish kebabs and dishes are amazing--the smoked fish melts in your mouth. So worth to try it! Salads are made of super fresh ingredients so you won't be disappointed. My favorite is greens salad with octopus and squid. It's very refreshing and unique. All their hot appetizers are pretty reasonably sized and worth a try--you might be full of a couple of them and even forgo the main dishes. Explore them all and you'll be glad you did. I was at this restaurant for the birthday party celebration - there was a "banquet" preordered, so I don't know all the names of the dishes but I'll try to describe them. The decor of the restaurant is pretty nice, there are pictures of goats on every wall. The tables were set up for banquet when we arrived. All the staff at the restaurant were extremely nice and helpful. The appetizers that I tried were the following: - fish cold cuts - smoked salmon and 2 kinds of white fish. All of them were really good - meat cold cuts - one of them looked like dry meat - it was very tasty. There was also ham or bacon served that I didn't try - liver pate was great, but it wasn't as delicate as fois gras - tomato/ cucumber salad - I love cucumbers so I went for it. The dressing was very plain - pickled grapes/ tomatoes - these were ok as well. It was my first time to try pickled grapes and it was a great combination of sweet and pickle taste. - thee were also several salads with mayo - I believe one of them had greens and beef tongue and the other one had pineapples, but I haven't tried them. The combination of ingredients didn't seem appealing to me. For entrees we had kebabs - these were good. I expected lamb kebab to be a little more juicy, but it was ok. Ground beef kebab was not impressive. Chicken was ok. Salmon entree with mashed potato patties was also ok. I can't really describe the flavor - I guess they were plain... I'm sad to leave this review because I've been coming here with my family for a few years but the quality has really started to go downhill. First of all the menu changes all the time, which could be nice and keep things interesting but all my favorites keep disappearing. Also the website is never updated with the changes, so you don't know what you're getting until you're sitting down with the menu. There also doesn't seem to be consistency of dishes. We came on July 3rd - a Tuesday, around midday - and ordered some of the same dishes again when we came today (July 31st, a Tuesday, around midday). Within a month the shepard salad had changed, the octopus salad changed, and the tuna steak I had changed. The service also isn't what it used to be. Our waiter couldn't explain what was in most of the dishes and it took him a while to get to our table. We finished our meal and waited a solid 15 minutes to get someone's attention to get our bill. Mind you, there were only about four other groups in the entire restaurant at the same time. This used to be a go to place for small birthday meals or family gatherings but after this visit we're definitely going to stay away for a while. read more
