Generally recommended dishes from our banquet: Chalahach, Kutab/Qutab, Lulya Kabob, Sturgeon Kabob Side Note- Review is from a meal from several months ago. Sheep by Barashka (or in other words rather humorously when translated Sheep by Sheep) is an Azerbaijani restaurant (specifically Gorsky) similar to Village Cafe or Baku Palace with the prices on the menu being somewhat in the middle though closer to Baku. Like those spots, you go here and have one of two experiences depending on whether someone speaks Russian/Azeri and whether you're here for a party. It's part of the experience and luckily I was part of the latter. When my part of the group arrived, there were several salads such as an avocado salad with tomato, eggplant salad (basically the same thing as Turkish Soslu patlıcan,) and an Achuchuk salad (tomato and onion based.) There was also herring which was tasty. Soon arriving were some hot appetizers. There were two variations of Kutab/Qutab which is essentially a flatbread either stuffed with meat or with greens with both being outstanding and in my opinion a bit better than the other spots I mentioned. There was also potatoes with mushrooms which was okay (I prefer more of a crisp) as well as Khachapuri or cheese bread which was salty and delicious though perhaps a bit too buttery. The main dishes were the standouts. The sturgeon kabobs were outstanding with very tender flaky fish which paired nicely with the pomegranate molasses/narsharab found commonly in the region as well as another cold sauce which I believe was tomato based. In terms of meat, their specialty is chalahach or in other words baby lamb chops. These were meaty, tender, and some of the best I've ever had. The lulya kabob or ground lamb kebab was also tender and delicious and I would recommend them. The rest of the meat was also good but these were definitely the best. I don't remember having dessert. The food overall here was delicious and I can see why this has become a preference for them. There is apparently live music here but they weren't in that night which I didn't mind as it was easier to talk. Good food (especially the main dishes) and friendly staff. The space is great! Often empty, looks like an event space for the most of the time. Closed Mon and Tuesday. First time I came, I wanted to try potato kebab, which I didnt see anywhere else, they were out. I ordered small pies, they were out. Waiter said they are never out of kebabs. So I ordered kebabs. 10 min later he came again and said they are out of it as well. Like how the waiter can not know what they have?!! Ended up with grilled sturgeon, which came bare on a plate, not even a leaf of green or anything. Wanted to give 3 stars or even 2, but gave it a second chance. Second visit they had everything and it was delicious. Apart from potato kebab, which ended up being just a puree on a stick. Nothing exciting. Food is really good but quite pricey. Sheep by barashka on Ave. U Fighting, upsetting my guests, disappointing the birthday girl, and not crediting my deposit towards the check...shame on you barashka! This place ruined by mothers 70th bday party. I made a reservation with the manager Roman for the birthday party about 3 weeks in advance;and left a deposit to secure the date/time. They told us we would have half of the main dining room. One day before the event Roman calls and asks that another party that booked the other side has had an increase in their party size and would it be ok to move my party further away to the bar area... He said it would be more quieter there. I didn't want to cause trouble so I agreed. The day of the event, Roman is MIA. Our table is set up, and there's a concert going on in the main dining room. These people had a MC, dj, karaoke, games ... BLASTING music in the microphone. When we asked what's happening, the man in charge didn't even flinch or seem to care much. We started complaining and said we booked with you guys and you promised a chill quiet atmosphere... we asked for the other party to lower their music... we almost got into a physical FIGHT with the other party. Why is my mother birthday being dismissed in such a rude way. We could not even make a toast, we couldn't even hear our own thoughts over the loud music. It was ridiculous. The waiter apologized a million times, but why did the owner/manager not handle things??? Even worse; let it escalate? We were basically treated like guests at the "primary event". Shame on you guys as a business . After all that, they didn't even credit my full deposit to the bill. read more

This restaurant single-handedly ruined what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime celebration for my mother's 70th birthday. The experience was a complete disaster from start to finish. The staff was shockingly rude, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in providing even the most basic level of hospitality. On top of that, an outrageously loud party was allowed to take over the space, completely destroying the atmosphere. The noise level was so extreme that our table couldn't hear one another speak -- not conversation, not toasts, nothing. I made multiple attempts to speak with the manager, hoping for some basic professionalism or intervention. Instead, we were flat-out ignored. No apology. No effort. No concern whatsoever. It was as if management simply didn't care that they were ruining a family milestone. This place fails spectacularly in every category that matters: service, management, and overall dining experience. If you're looking for a restaurant that values its guests, respects special occasions, or understands basic customer service, look elsewhere. This restaurant is incompetent, poorly run, and absolutely not worth your time or money. Avoid at all costs. read more

The food was ok, expensive, the environment ok clean and cold, overall a just ok experience.

My husband had a birthday and we decided to have dinner at this restaurant. It has a very beautiful interior, comfortable chairs. I would especially like to draw your attention to the menu. In addition to our favorite dishes of Azerbaijani cuisine, there are many delicious and unusual dishes. We ordered crispy eggplants, kutabs and a signature salad as an appetizer. For the main course: sturgeon shashlik, lula kebab, lamb shashlik, vegetables and grilled potatoes. Everything was very fresh and tasty, especially the crispy eggplants - amazing! In honor of the birthday, we were served free tea, 3 types of jam and Baku baklava. The waiter serving us was called Anar. Thank you for the excellent service! Why did I wait to try this restaurant? I eat here often and every visit has been good. The food tasted great but the portion was tiny. The employees' kindness creates return customers. I'm almost protective of this hidden spot. read more

What was meant to be a special celebration was completely ruined by this restaurant. The noise level was absolutely unbearable--so loud that no one at our table could hear one another speak. A rowdy party nearby took over the space, and despite multiple polite requests to staff and management, nothing was done. Our concerns were entirely ignored, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the staff and management were shockingly rude throughout the evening, offering no apologies or solutions. The overall condition of the restaurant was also deeply concerning--unsanitary and poorly maintained, which only added to the negative experience. This was not just a disappointing meal, but a ruined celebration. For the price point and reputation this place tries to uphold, the lack of basic hospitality, cleanliness, and respect for guests is unacceptable. We have celebrated my father 90 and my parents 65th anniversary the same time. It happens to be on the same date. Everything was absolutely perfect! The decoration of the restaurant, food, service... we had no even small issue. Special thanks to Elia - the manager! She was very patient when we made the reservation and walk us through each menu item, explained how they will serve us, took our small adjustments since we had people with different food requirements. She also made few calls ahead to confim all the details. The waiters who served us were very quick, gentle and very nice and patient to all our senior guests, who loves to talk about the live to everyone. Went with my mom today to SHEEP BY BARASHKA. We had been once before and really enjoyed it. The menu has a great variety and offers a lot of really wonderful comfort foods. We both had Cornish hen which you really cannot get in many restaurants. it was excellent, We also had sweet potato fries, a salad, incredible chicken soup. The last time I went with my dad and he had the had the chicken schnitzel, which I tried and loved. the restaurant is relatively inexpensive compared to others in the neighborhood and the quality is tops. Traveled 40 minutes from Manhattan to try this restaurant. It was worth the trip. The food is wonderful. It was the best meal that I had on this trip. From the Southern food of Alabama to the offerings of NYC. I will definitely look for Russian restaurants in Los Angeles. The next NY visit, I will come to the Sheep again. read more

Great Azerbaijan Food! Great Ambiance! Avenue U between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Avenue is pretty much dine and dash territory - split between a dozen ethnicities. That comes with a huge span of mouth-watering dishes but where ambiance is an unknown word. So, walking into 6apashka or "Lamb by Barashka" is like being teleported to a fine NYC restaurant where great food is paired with a sterling dining experience - without those withering Manhattan prices. This is a wonderful dining experience and if you are lucky enough to stop in between 12 and 4PM weekdays - their $12 Prix Fixe Lunch is a show stopper! The South Caucasus region plates are one-of-a-kind delicious and the tables are set with linen, silverware, and sparkling wine glasses. The pièce de résistance is a wall-sized jumbotron that displays stunning videos of the region so that at any particular bite you are viewing rivers, creeks, waterfalls, and more waterfalls. If nightlife is more your thing - the video wall becomes the backdrop for local musicians. We have not sampled that part of 6apashka yet, but lunch is something special we will be going back for seconds on - many times! read more

The food here was amazing. We went here for my grandmas birthday to celebrate and they had outstanding service here they were so nice. They serve a variety of things including drinks. They also opened recently so it was peacefully quiet. They had awesome decoration, with led lights, statues, pictures. A huge screen of a picture was there and do allow pictures. The seats were also luxurious. Overall, I would recommend this place and will make sure to come again! 10/10. read more
