Best sea food restaurant in area. Pleasant friendly atmosphere clean and efficient service

As I was strolling around Coney Island trying to find what to eat for dinner, I saw this Liman Restaurant and decided to give it a try. This place serves Mediterranean and Turkish food. I ordered the Dorado fish, Baby Lamb Chops (medium rare), Watermelon Mojito, Sultan's Sip, Baked Rice Pudding, and San Sebastian Cheesecake. The portion of the food is big and food was 10/10. The desserts were delicious. I also love the seatings inside and outside because you get to see the Cyclone roller coaster. Service was great. Staff checking and asking how's the food to make sure I have a great experience. This is definitely a place where I'll come again. read more

Stopped by after the Brooklyn half marathon ordered a few lobster rolls and shepherd salad. The salad was quite good. However the Lobster rolls were all mayonnaise and celery, with barely any lobster meat. At almost $40 each, they were a total rip off. Service was friendly. I've been coming to Liman for years even back when it was at the original location and it's remained one of my go-to spots for consistently delicious Mediterranean food. Every meal starts strong with the shepherd salad, which is always refreshingly crisp, and the cigar pastries, which are perfectly golden and filled with warm, melty cheese. The hummus is smooth and flavorful, especially when paired with their complementary bread we always end up asking for more because it's just that good. The zucchini fritters are another must-have: lightly fried, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. For my main, I almost always get the chicken shish kebab with fries. While the portion size has definitely shrunk over the years, the quality has remained solid. The fries are the crispy, batter-coated kind I love super crunchy and satisfying. And the knafeh is warm, sweet, and rich with gooey cheese in the center it's so good I'm always a little sad to share. Even with a few small changes over time, Liman still holds a special place on my list of favorite spots for a comforting, flavorful meal. read more

We visited on a late Saturday afternoon without a reservation. The server sat us immediatley in the indoor dining room. We had one Stella bottle only no draft, and a lychee martini. One round runs 30$. We shared a house salad and Ezme spread for appetizers. The salad had a delicious light vinaigrette. The Ezme is advertised spicy but alas it was not. My entree fried anchovies was the highlight. The raw veggies pair well with the crispy salty fish. My gf friends entree potato pancakes fell flat , no pun. Lacked flavor texture and generally mush. We came here after visiting Luna Park, and craving real food not wanting fast food which is quite abundant in the area. It was close to closing time, but we were seated right away and our waiter was very attentive. At no point did we feel rushed to order, and in fact several other groups came in after us. We ordered hummus and the zucchini pancakes as our appetizers. For our mains we had the jumbo shrimp kebabs, red snapper filet, with the red lentil soup for our daughter. Good seafood restaurant right along the water on Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay. Unlike Randazzo's down the street, this restaurant has a more Turkish vibe instead of an Italian vibe, and that is okay. The food is tasty, but be warned not some skimpy portions and slightly high prices. It certainly has a Turkish feel to the restaurant, from the kind of bread that is served here to the wait staff, but again, that is okay. As long as the service is good (it was), and the food being good (it was), I have little to complain about. When it comes to Sheepshead Bay, you have to get seafood. It tastes fresh and will leave you wanting more. That is okay. read more

Very enjoyable, family-oriented Turkish restaurant on the yacht-lined Sheepshead Bay that will make you feel like you're dining somewhere along the Boğaz. We shared a bottle of rakı to accompany our soğuk mezeler, which included hummus, babaganoush, cacık, and zeytinyağlı pırasa. For sıcak mezeler, we opted for the mücver and the sigara böreği. I used to cherish my visits to Liman Restaurant. I recently went to the restaurant at the "new" address and found significant changes. The prices had changed. Gone were the regular local customers that came for "authentic" Turkish food ....and also gone were the young and jovial servers that made you feel at home. I used to love also the taste of the food ...well seasoned but not salty with a rich and flavorful taste. Tonight, I did appreciate that this a now upscale restaurant, but I won't be back. I miss the warm family atmosphere and I miss the authentic taste of the Turkish food. If I had one word it would be bland. Reliable seafood in a pretty dining room with waterfront views. Works well for family events and one of my parents' go-to places. The Turkish owners who took over this previously Russian/Ukrainian restaurant have done a nice job with the decor and menu. You'll get your standard Turkish dishes like the borek cigars, shepherd's salad, calf liver cubes, etc. All competently rendered. The shrimp kebab is good as are the branzino and salmon. Kebabs are exorbitantly priced IMO, but...* *Dishes are about $5-10 more than they should be but this is life in post-Covid era dining. Lovely place with great food but the prices are high. We celebrated a birthday here so had a table of 8. Views are excellent with Coney Island right outside. Food was very good - apps, mains - all prepared great. Octopus salads had a ton of octopus and were well prepared. Liver and calamari apps some of the best I had - very fresh. Lamb chops outstanding as was surf and turf (lamb chops with shrimp kebabs). Garnish was delicious too - zucchini spaghetti was amazing. Cocktails well prepared and desert were enjoyable (they bring deserts to you to pick from which is nice as can see what you get). The check was a bit of sticker shock. They do include gratuity and were upfront about it. Still came out to $125 per person which is high for Brooklyn based casual restaurant. This place was somewhere between 3 and 3.5. Let's start with the good. The location just steps off the beach/boardwalk area with an outdoor patio that overlooks Luna park is very nice and an overall pleasant experience during the summer months. The staff is incredibly attentive and service is great. Now for the food which is where the experience fell short. We started by sharing the shepherd salad and eggplant puree- both decent but nothing special by any means and slightly lacking flavor. For entrees, we shared the red snapper fillet and Chilean sea bass. The snapper fillet had so many bones - I was nervous eating it after finding the first few so difficult to enjoy. The sea bass was pretty good- nice sauce on it and the mashed potatoes were smooth and complemented the dish. The spinach on this dish was so salty we had to push it off to the side. Overall the food is quite pricey for the quality and there are limited meat options on the menu. I would only recommend if you are coming here for the location and ambiance because the food was a bit of a let down unfortunately. read more

The wine list was good and the cocktail menu looked good as well. I did not see any beer on the menu which seemed odd but not a big deal. The appetizers were very good. We have never had Turkish food before and we really enjoyed it. We had the Turkish ezme spread and the Turkish cheese rolls (borek) for appetizers. I would recommend both. The spread was nice and spicy. A good mix of flavors and textures. Cheese rolls were light and delicious. **Pet peeve alert - After spending a good amount of time looking at the menu, we decided on the fish special for two. We were told they don't have it. Then I ordered the seasonal striped bass. Again, they don't have it. This is extremely frustrating to me. I don't understand why restaurants and bars can't simply tell you what they are out of before you waste your time looking at the menu and deciding on something. I guess from now on I'm going to have to have second, third, and fourth choices ready to go in my head because this happens to us frequently. I don't understand why they can't simply put a piece of tape or make some kind of mark next to items that aren't available. After we finished our meal, our waitress disappeared for a good amount of time. I mean a long time. This is another thing that is very frustrating to me. It was $150 for shrimp, fish, and two appetizers. Please come back and check on us. Any one of the waitstaff standing around could easily tell we were done eating especially since someone cleared our table when I went to use the washroom. We never saw her again. We ended up having to flag down one of the other members of the waitstaff who cashed us out. 3 stars because the food and atmosphere were both good. I went here on a date Monday evening. We were able to walk in and ask for a table without reservations. We ordered the pureed eggplant (aka babaghanoush) to start with. I ordered the shrimp casserole and my date had the shrimp kebabs. Having been to Turkey last November, I thought the shrimp casserole was a bit too cheesy to be considered an authentic turkish dish. My date seemed to enjoy his shrimp.kababs. The ambiance was nice as it's on the 2nd floor and looks out onto the Cyclone. Also the wait staff delivered good service. I came here last night, for the first time, with my family. We were a large group of 15 people. We were seated in the outdoor patio section that overlooked the water. It was a gray day out and with the roof retracted. I was concerned about the possibility of being rained on during our meal... thankfully the rain stayed away. There also weren't any walls separating the tables or social distancing. We were close to the other groups and it was so crowded. It was like COVID never existed here and that got me a little nervous. The servers did wear masks however, for one guy it was falling off his face and half of the time he would be talking to is with his face exposed. He definitely needed a tighter mask. We started with hummus, calamari, and octopus salad. These were pretty average, in my opinion. The hummus and calamari were typical and like other Mediterranean restaurants I have been too. I must have been pretty hungry because I practically cleaned the hummus plate with the bread. Even though I don't like octopus, I still tried it. It wasn't too flavorful and if I had my eyes closed, I wouldn't know it was octopus which I guess is a good thing. We all got a variety of entrees. I had the Chilean seabass which came with a buttery lemon sauce with capers over some greens. My cousins split the chicken shish kebab and the lamb shish kebab. They both said their meats were dry. They did enjoy the 4-5 pieces of fried potatoes. My other cousin got the Turkish meatballs and it came with the same accompaniments as the kebab dishes. Out of the other dishes around me, mine looked and tasted the best. It was good, however it was a little salty. Mostly everyone had ordered a fish entree. Some had a fillet and others had a while grilled fish. For dessert, my cousins and I shared the profiteroles and chocolate lava cake. I wanted baklava but the server said that they didn't have it. I found it a little strange that a Mediterranean restaurant would not have a Mediterranean dessert but I found something else. I would have liked the profiteroles to have come with a dark chocolate sauce instead of milk chocolate. I don't think the sauce needed to be a river on the profiteroles. A drizzle would have sufficed and I would have been able to actually taste the cream on the inside. The lava cake was great if you are a chocolate lover. The only exception was that the top was burnt to a crisp and and gave the cake a slight bitter taste. Overall, I left Liman feeling full. I think the food here expensive. It is almost the same price as NYC restaurants. However, the quality of the food, it's presentation, and the wait staff service didn't quite match up to NYC restaurants of the same price. I'm not sure I would come back here because there are restaurants with better quality of food for a similar price in the city and who follow social distancing guidelines. read more

Five star experience. I was in the neighborhood with a friend in search of quality food. I've been to Liman before and they only raised their prices slightly during the pandemic, making the prices now comparable to lesser restaurants on Emmons Avenue. They are a maritime themed restaurant and are now cozily decorated for Halloween/Fall and the service is friendly from the hostess to the server and everyone who works there. They have an enclosed extension in the front and outdoor water front dining (weather permitting). As well as a large main dining area and bar dining area. Their better wines by the glass are $12. I had a solid California Cabernet. Their red bean appetizer and fresh baked Turkish bread (on the house) went well together. The Turkish meatball entree was spiced just right and came with roasted potatoes and green beans. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. Portions are European, as would be expected from a more upscale venue. Again, they used to cost more than the other restaurants nearby but now that other restaurants are charging more, the pricing is similar and Liman is worth it. This Turkish star offers a better all around experience than any of the others. read more

We went to this place to celebrate Bday. The location would be perfect for summer with the patio and view of the Ocean. The food is good, but nothing spectacular for the price tag they put on it. I believe the location had changed, and they decided to tamp up the prices. You can find better quality or the same quality of food for a much more pleasant check. My grilled octopus salad for 30$ was far from being a 30$ dish swimming in vinegar and oil. All fish dishes vary from 30-40 $, but they do not even bother to give you sides. The service was attentive, but they chased our company to the elevator because they thought the tip was insufficient. I will not come back and will not recommend it to anyone. I would go to Opera Restaurant next time, rather than his place. read more

I've been passing by this place since time immemorial, mistakenly assuming that it was a seafood restaurant. One October Saturday night I finally found out that it's a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant. Very casual atmosphere, nothing special to look at. Simple wooden furniture and no decor. You wouldn't think you were at a restaurant. Hence why Prices shocked me. Manhattan prices. Every entree on the menu is above $30. Staff are pleasant, but the service is on the slow side. Complementary Turkish bread was warm, plentiful and fresh, which we appreciated. $26 "New York times recommended" grilled octopus was soft and flavorful. Good portion size for sharing. $35 durado came with a side of rice. Good fish (served whole with a head), but nothing special or worth $35. $32 lamb shish kebab was certainly not worth so much. The meat was very chewy and old. Not juicy or tender at all, how lamb is supposed to be. Came with a side of rice (awful looking and bland), exactly three tiny potato prices, and garlic sautéed beans (which were the highlight of the dish). What a disappointment. Our experience was underwhelming at best. The food was not worth the prices. Nor was the ambiance or service or anything about our experience. Will not return. read more

The restaurant is right by the water so you get a beautiful view, just be aware that there was a very noticeable sulfur like smell coming from the water. We both ordered the octopus and I was disappointed that this dish was really mostly salad with cut up pieces of octopus. I'm a big fan of octopus and was expecting the octopus to be the main attraction since it's listed all over their menu as being featured in the NY TIMES but really this dish is primarily a salad that has chopped up octopus. Came in after work with coworkers. Reservations for 14 was a breeze, luckily we called in because the placed filled up quickly. Food and service was amazing. Fresh fish and salads all around, I bet every table had one whole Branzino, no doubt about that. Fried Liver and Grilled Octopus were my favorite. Dessert menu - so fun. Actual plates on a tray, you pick what you see. We opted for 2 large Kanafa's(huge favorite) and a couple of individual to share.
