Found this place based on Yelp reviews. I haven't been here before,and it seems to be a family owned business, with friendly & helpful people from the front door to the checkout. I had the Hibachi teriyaki steak, which was served with tender grilled vegetables over a bed of fried rice. Steak was perfectly grilled, wasn't tough at all, and the sauce & seasoning were perfect. Very generous portions. Don't go here expecting fancy exterior or lavish interior decorations. Just a nice neat & clean place to eat a great meal. Considering that this restaurant is built inside an old gas station, don't expect, by far, fancy accommodations, but the food has always been delicious considering the owner that prepares the food (I have heard) was once a chef for Kabuki, but departed whenever the owner of Kabuki moved to his new restaurant location. Therefore, if desiring food cooked like Kabuki, but not wanting to spend an untold vast fortune, look no farther! Truly a hidden gem. The service is beyond fantastic! The home style feel and vibe of the restaurant is so hard to come by. The food is generous in proportions and absolutely fantastic. We tried the potstickers (6) which were juicy, sweet and savory. We also tried the chicken/steak fried rice and chicken/salmon fried rice with a side of chow mein alone. We live in the Dallas are and go ski in New Mexico. When we pass through Amarillo, this is our MUST STOP place to eat. We have gone every year since we got lucky and found this place. This is a hidden gem in Amarillo. Super Local. Almost divey. They serve authentic style thai dishes along with hibachi. The hibachi filet mignon is delicious and amazingly tender. Most of their dishes offer great flavor. Service is quick and the food comes out quickly after. Enjoy! read more

Kabuki's hibachi-style steakhouse without the Kabuki price. Most everyone has been to Kabuki. You sit at a big table with strangers and watch a chef cook your choice of meat and fry it up with mixed vegetables and fried rice. Tsunami takes out the chef, the pizazz, and the price. This restaurant used to be a Toot-n-Totum gas station and it hasn't really spruced it up much since. They don't even have an actual sign. It's just a burgundy banner that's tacked up over the front windows. I missed it the first time because it looked nothing like a restaurant. The interior is as basic as could be. Tables and chairs - that's it. I ordered the Shrimp dinner ($10), which is fried rice, shrimp and vegetables. There's plenty of rice and shrimp but the vegetables are CRAP. At most teppan grill restaurants, you get stir-fried zucchini and mushrooms. Not here. Grilled broccoli and carrots - ew. They might as well have been just for decor. Still, at ten dollars, this meal is a decent value. Let's get down to the bottom line: Is the food better than Kabuki? No. It's about the same. Are the portions bigger or smaller than Kabuki? Smaller, but only because they don't have the mixed stir-fried vegetables. Is the price cheaper than Kabuki? Yes, it's at least 35% cheaper. Is it as much fun? Sadly, no. If you don't mind missing out on the chef, the show, the onion volcano, the fancy decor and the vegetables - then Tsunami is a good alternative to more expensive teppan restaurants like Kabuki. Pros: good food, good portions, good prices Cons: it's in an unmarked, old gas station; vegetables are a joke; no onion volcanos. read more

We think this place is really good. So much better than Kabuki and Sakura Teppan meals and half the price. You get miso or egg drop soup with your meal. The egg rolls are home made and wonderful. Loved loved loved Tsunami a few years ago. Hadn't been in a long time. Decided to grab steak fried rice to go. Same staff as when I last went 7+ years ago. They're not friendly, but they're very efficient. Got home to hot food and a full box. Meat tasted kinda gamey but rice was fire so I ate most of it. Rice was fire because evidently it had been sitting out too long - gave me my first ever case of food poisoning. Bacillus Cereus. Literally thought I was dying, spent the next three days calling into work cause I couldn't take a drink of water without throwing up and having diarrhea. Painful stomach cramps. Bacillus Cereus can kill children, elderly, and immunocompromised! Glad it was me, a healthy youth instead. Love you Tsunami, but you poisoned me. This visit was July 28, 2020. read more

Ok! Best Pad Thai in Amarillo. We ordered the medium spicy. Perfect amount of heat with flavor. We have tried 3 other Thai places and this is by far the best. The Hibachi chicken and steak was good as well. The meal comes with soup and sauces on the side. Overall price was spot on for this type of restaurant. Best place for pad Thai and yellow curry in Amarillo. We also really like their habachi plates. Other dishes are good, but these are our go to meals. Prices are reasonable too. It is a funky place (old toot n Toruń building) off the beaten path. If you want great Thai or Japanese food in Amarillo this is a good place to visit. Right now they are serving take out only. Just a little restaurant at the corner of a residential area. I always look for the tiny restaurants like this, with the small buildings, and the old paint or front door. Adds character! The environment was clean, quiet, and welcoming, and the service was very nice! It's not super cheap, but it isn't extremely pricey either. All in all, a good stop! We got fried rice, egg drop soup, dumplings, and Mongolian beef. My favorite part was the egg drop soup, which had a great flavor and smooth, creamy texture. Good food. The chef is from Kabuki. The prices are reasonable for this type of food and are definitely more competitive than Kabuki. (Japanese steakhouse type food) Don't get put down by the appearance and decór of the restaurant. (After all, it IS a converted Toot-n-Totum) I saw one couple come in, sit down, and walk out because of the initial impression. However, you'll regret ever leaving! I hadn't been to Tsunami in a while, so it was a nice choice for a Saturday lunch. It got crowded quickly but the two servers kept up with all the tables. Food came out fast, fresh, and hot! The Summer Rolls were tasty, quite a bit larger than others offer. I had Steak & Shrimp- as good as ever, and enough for two! My companion had Steak & Chicken- tons of steak on the plate. The atmosphere isn't much, but the restaurant is clean and bright- the food more than makes up for it! Better than Kabuki or Kushi Yama and much more affordable and quick. Had a decent meal here today for lunch. Some steak dish that my friend recommended. He goes there so much they know him, but thats because he lives next to it. Serving size was good and food was average, nothing special. My friend ordered a noodle dish with chicken that he swears had gone bad. I didnt notice it but thats a huge turnoff. All in all average, its the closest Asian place to my house (My Thai is sick imo) so i will be back again to give it a fair chance, but as of now I'd rather drive 3x as far to go to Ichiban or Bangkok Tokyo. read more

What a great little hidden gem. If you're craving quality hibachi food but not the high price tag this is the place for you. It's BYOB, so they don't sell any alcohol. The place is in a weird residential area. It was recommended by some friends and I was not impressed with the hibachi rice or vaggies. They lacked flavor and were cooked in a little too much oil. I have been to Sakura and Kabuki multiple times, avoiding the table grills, just to get the food; recently it seems their quality and service have gone down. All I can say is WOW. This place took me by surprise. Being a vegetarian visiting Amarillo, there's not a whole lot of options when it comes to going out. Me and my boyfriend were looking for good thai. I wan't feeling it, but there really wasn't any other options besides the normal Jason's or Subway. We passed it at first. It's right before a couple exits and nestled in a dark corner on the left. Cute place inside. The waitstaff is young and very friendly. I ordered the #13 Teppanyaki Vegetable with soup. Our waitress recommended the wonton soup which was made with vegetable broth and tofu. I love it when restaurants actually care about their vegetarian customers. She knew a lot about area restaurants and venues. We said we played in a band and wanted to know if there were any cool places to play. The food was wonderful. I got mine with fried rice, which was actually pretty awesome and spicy! They give you a TON of food here. I had enough leftovers for two more meals. And mine, with the soup, was only $5.25. I am a very picky eater. I don't think I've ever had such great Thai food for such a small price. Our total bill was about $20 even. As the 2/5 stars indicate "Meh"... Went there for lunch, and while only 3 other diners were in the building, I had to wait to be seated - while the waitress finished buffing her nails. I doubt the same chef is there as written by the other reviewers as the food was well below par from Kabuki's. The Spicy Beef was watery, and tasted like yesterday's left-overs so it was obvious they are not using fresh meat. The fried rice was overcooked and dry as the Mohave Desert. Also quite obvious that this was made in a large batch and perhaps left-over from a previous day(s). The imitation crab wontons were "meh" as well... Why 2 stars instead of 1? Maybe it was a bad day for the chef, benefit of the doubt... but barely. I will not be going back. read more

One of my favorite places. Its a small and simple space, but the food is great and very nicely priced. They have a Po Tak (seafood soup) that's is best in town, and currently feature lamb and potato curry that's wonderful. You could go to more expensive places but why bother.. As I waited for a pickup order they brought me an iced tea to-go on the house! Highly recommend, this is a hidden gem. read more
